DVDSP w/ Pioneer DVD112 ?

I'm replacing the old 4x speed DVD drive in my G5 PPC with a new 16x because the stores now only carry 16x speed media which my old drive has been having problems with. The recommended one seems to be the Pioneer DVR-112D Dual Layer DVD Recordable Drive 18X. Does anybody know if this one will work for sure with DVD studio Pro ?

Any DVD burner will work with DVD SP if installed internally, starting with version 2.0. Versions of DVD SP prior to 4 might require Patchburn profile installed in order for the drive to be fully recognizable by both DVD SP and iDVD.
With Mac OS X 10.5 and up those restrictions were removed, and are no longer apply.

  • Using 2 Identical SuperDrives with DVDSP in Mac Pro

    Hello-
I recently installed 2 new identical Pioneer 118 Superdrives in my 2006 Mac Pro. In DVDSP, I'm having problems selecting a drive and burning discs. The Burn dialog box allows me to select either drive, but both have identical names. When the top one in the list is selected, sometimes the bottom tray will open; when I try to burn a disc there, it takes a long time for the burn to begin, and sometimes it will hang before finishing. I'm not sure if the Mac is having a tough time figuring out which drive is which because of the identical names.
I have both drives installed correctly, with Cable Select chosen on both. I wonder if there is way, anywhere, to rename the drives, or if this is the problem. The drives both read any kind of disc without problems, and I have burned discs on both, so they do work. I can also create disc images, which I can then burn in disc utility.
It just seems like DVDSP gets confused because the drives are identical. Should I get a different model or brand of drive to replace one, or is there another way to straighten this out?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Thanks for the response; I've been trying a few things today, and they seem to be working now. Both drives show up in DVDSP with identical names; when I select the upper name, the lower tray opens, and I can burn the disc. Selecting the lower name results in the upper tray opening, and again I can successfully burn.
In Toast, both names also appear and I can burn to both drives (haven't tried two discs at once, yet), although the names/trays are correctly oriented in Toast.
What I do notice is that these drives (New Pioneer 118s) take an extra minute or so before burning begins (in DVDSP only, so again, this might be a name recognition issue), and are noisier while burning.
I wonder if switching to the master/slave setup would improve anything.

  • DVDSP won't recognize my blank discs!

I'm using DVDSP 3 and I've recently had a problem where when I try to format, and after I insert a black DVD-R, it gets stuck on the "Please insert acceptable DVD recordable media" window. I'm using Memorex DVD-Rs, which I've used before without a problem. Also, I'm able to burn CDs from iTunes, so I'm pretty sure it's not the burner.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Thanks for responding Chris. I will try my best to describe the steps I'm taking.
    -I'm running DVDSP 3
-After successfully building the project to my external hard drive, I click format from Advanced Burn.
-When the Format window comes up, I make sure the location is correct.
-The Outpute Device reads "Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104", lossless linking is checked and the Output format says Standard DVD.
    - When I click Burn, the drive opens and a window saying "please insert acceptable recordable device" or something like that
    - Once I insert the blank DVD the window asking for the DVD stays up and nothing happens. in addittion, when I cancel formatting, I can't eject the DVD unless I restart the computer.
I can burn a DVD or CD outside of DVDSP, but not from within the program. Recently, I opened my project, went through the same process as above and was able to burn 1 DVD. However, when I tried it again it didn't work. I've tried the Build and Format option and just the Burn option, but neither worked. I've also tried to re-Build the project and it makes no difference.
    I feel so powerless.

  • DVDSP compatible with this drive?

I'm thinking of buying of Pioneer DVR-112D dual layer burner to put into my 2.5 GHz Pre-Intel G5. Am I nuts? Will DVDSP 4 work with this drive?

Go here and punch in your specs:

    A number of successful reports:
"Reader Comments: I just replaced the DVR drive in my G5 Tower. The one it had was a Sony U10A 4x drive and it would not write to any current DVD Media (Unless I went and found some slower 4x Media) so I replaced it with a Pioneer DVR-112D Black.
It went right in with only a little issue, height problem from the mounting screws, but once I removed the front Bezel off the drive tray there was no issue at all...
(reader FYI - remember to remove the tray edge bezel off any drive you put in a G5 tower or MDD Mac (and usually a Mac Pro tower also) - otherwise the tray can hang on the case on eject-Mike)
Works fine, burns fine and works with all media and software I have tested in it so far. Thank You Lord. I would recommend that any owner of a G5 with a slower sony drive in it, replace it ASAP! Far easier than searching for the slower media to work in your older drive.

  • HELP!  DVDSP won't let me burn dual layer in PTP.  always forces to OTP

Everytime I try to burn a project on a dual layer (pioneer dual 111 drive) on my g5 running OS 10.4.5 with most recent version of DVDSP 4, it sticks me to OTP. I understand the difference between PTP and OTP and I build the project with PTP selected and I select an appropriate break point and when I click "burn" and watch the build log, it says "doing opposite track path"
why does it keep forcing me back to that? can I not burn PTP on dual layer discs?
    is this a glitch?
    am I doing something wrong?
    any advice is super appreciated!!
    thanks,
    Christian

Duh! I feel so stupid. I knew there had to be a simple answer. Thanks so much for clarifying. now I can stop feeling like I was doing something wrong.
    Thanks again!

  • DVDSP 4

I am getting an Error 34 when I try to burn a DVD from DVDSP 4. This error is written in the log as, "Insufficient disk space for encoding. Please free up disk space on your encoding target drive."
I cleared up the entire 37 GB partition for this project for a 6 minute video. I tried reinstalling DVDSP 4 once and got the same results.
I am editing on FCP 5. One funny thing, when I export my 6 minute FCP sequence I do not get MPEG-2 as an export option. This leads me to believe FCP 5 does not recognize DVDSP 4. I have used both software together without any problems on another computer.
One other factor, I got a new DVD drive, a Pioneer DVR 110D, and downloaded "Patchburn" for it to work.
I can use DVDSP 4 and all it's features, but I just can't build, format, and burn a DVD. I welcome any and all suggestions. I am not sure where to start. Thanks.
    Mike

    Several things to try.
    1) encode from FCP using Compressor 2 - this will save DVDSP having to do any major encoding, leaving it to encode only the menu graphics.
    2) use AC3 audio, not PCM - this is a setting within Compressor, these days.
    3) use simple overlay menus - not photoshop layers (you don't say what type of menus you are using... just thought I'd mention it!) as the layers get turned into individual menus on build.
    4) try building the project to your hard drive as a disc image. User Toast (or the Finder...) to burn it to DVD.
    5) make sure that 37GB is on an internal partition, not on an external hard drive.
let us know how you get on with it!

  • Pioneer & Soundtrack Pro 3

hey all. im trying to record audio with my Pioneer DM DV-5 mic, but audio Level is always no higher than about -50. in SysPrefs and in ST Pro Input Volume is on the maximum. so whats wrong?!

Thanks. That explains a lot, especially why reinstallation of STP fails in Mountain Lion.
I have STP stil around, but I am afraid that in the cleaning up with FCSRemover (asked to keep STP and DVDSP though) for the installation of FCPX something critical got lost. Trying to run STP crashes with a Dyld Error Message:
    Library not loaded: /Library/Application Support/ProApps/*/ProFX.framework/Versions/A/ProFX
      Referenced from: /Applications/Final Cut Studio/Soundtrack Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Soundtrack Pro
      Reason: image not found
Is it possible to retrieve (wherefrom) and reinstall this library? In such a way that FCPX is not harmed, of course.

  • Airplay to Pioneer receiver no longer works after 10.4 update

I have a VSX-1021K receiver unit which until yesterday, I used quite frequently with iTunes' airplay function. Then, I installed iTunes 10.4 on my Windows 7 computer (32 bit) and suddenly, airplay does not work.
iTunes can still see the VSX-1021 unit and it shows up, but then when I try to play music to it, it fails with the following error:
"An error occurred while connecting to the airplay device "VSX-1021" An unknown error occurred (-15000)."
Meanwhile, the screen on the A/V unit shows "No Title" while it's in Airplay mode. Normally it would display the track information.
I've already emailed this exact question to Pioneer support, and will follow up here with anything I hear back from them. It's possible they might need to update the firmware of the receiver to support protocol changes created in 10.4
Note: I love that iTunes has finally added Aero effects support for Windows 7 (and Vista, I can only assume), only 1.5 years late to the party. But at least it's there. Sweet GUI effects.

Note: issue can be worked around by disabling the Windows Firewall. Interestingly enough, reenabling the Firewall after Airplay is already playing also does not cause problems; the music keeps playing without issue with iTunes 10.4 - but if I revert playback to 'internal speakers' and then back again to the receiver, the errors begin again.
So, that leads me to believe that the Windows Firewall (and OSX firewall, since I've seen similar threads on the mac side of things) is blocking the network protocol/port that allows authentication with the Airplay device, but once connection occurs, that protocol is not used again.
I've spoken with Apple phone support (thank goodness my work gave me a Mac laptop with a warrantied serial number I could use on them) about this, and have been told it's been forwarded to the iTunes programmers. Hopefully we'll see a patch soon, so I don't need to keep my firewall disabled!

  • IPhone no longer works with Pioneer AVIC-D3 car stereo after recent update

I've used my first gen iPhone with the iPod adapter/cable from my Pioneer AVIC-D3 since I first got it - and it's worked great. But after the recent update it doesn't work. I only get an "Error-11" message on the stereo screen when I plug the phone in. Anyone? This is really frustrating!
    Thanks.

Nevermind. Did a hard reset of each and they work now. Odd...

  • HD edited footage in FCP 5.1 to DVDSP 4 to "build and format" to where now?

97 minute movie shot with Sony's HDV-FX1, edited in FCP 5.1, exported to QuickTime movie, full quality, current settings. Imported into DVDSP 4.1, parsed, no problem, authored with HD settings, and built project. DSP produced a proper HDDVD_TS folder. With Apple DVD Player 4.6.5 on my duel 1.8 G5, this plays just fine.
With Toast 8 and a NU Technology Blu-ray burner (Matshita BD-MLT SW 5528), DVD-ROM (UDF), new disc, named and imported the HD file. Clicked record, selected 1x DB write speed to be on the safe side, used both a Panasonic BD-RW and a TDK BD-RW single layer disc and burned successfully. Neither disc now, to my ultimate frustration, will play in our Samsung Blu-ray DVD player or play with Apple's DVD Player. Both report a message about not supporting the media type, although the disc does mount on my G5 via the Blu-ray drive.
Thoughts on where to go from here? Our movie plays fine downconverted to 480i, but we would love to see it play in High def at 1080i.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

    David,
That is the answer to why I am unable to use the "build and format" option in DSP? Seems crazy that the option is there, but the function isn't.
Did the Toast product manager give any hint as to when this option may be available? I knew were we sailing into unchartered waters, but we had hoped that by the time we were done with post that the path had already been navigated
    Thanks,

  • Pioneer DVR 106D does not work after firmware update

I tried to update the firmware of my iMac with DVRFlashX. I failed. No Superdrive is showing up in the system information. DVD can't be removed even with the firmware eject function. No Pioneer drive is found. How do I get the right firmware for the Superdive via Internet to make it work again?

  • New Pioneer DVR-110 installed, "patchburned", BUT drive won't stay closed.

Have had some good advice on how to intall a new DVD/CD drive, but after installing a New Pioneer DVR-110 (I thought succesfully) on my G4, and downloading Patchburn for Panther, the DVD drive now won't function as the computer keeps ejecting or opening the drive tray.
After installing the drive, I installed Patchburn, and Toast did recognize the drive. I then tried to verify disc permissions on the computer and it kept getting hung up during repair/verify saying it lost connection with the drive manager. Tried Onyx to repair/verify permissions and it too gets hung up. (Had to force quit)
Any advice on how to get the drawer of the DVD drive to stay closed and what else I need to do to get it working?... Alas I can not even reinstall my original OSX software now as I can't boot from the disc drive since it won't stay closed.
    Thanks, Rob

You can verify the closeness by opening the empty drive door with the KB and then hold the door open and close drawer with the KB.

  • Reasonably new PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D will NOT RECOGNIZE CD's

I bought a new PIONEER DVR-111D drive to replace my old superdrive about 5-6 months ago.
All was fine and good until about 2 weeks ago when it was suddenly unable to recognize CD's. Audio CD's, blank CD's, my highly valued "must insert to play" Halo CD, etc...
I noted this problem originally when trying to burn a playlist on a CD and Toast would pop out an error message about "Wrong Media Type". They worked fine before. This only happens on CD's (and yes, I tried a few different brands) - not DVD's.
    DVD's (Dual Layer & -R & +R) read/write/burn fine.
But when I put a CD in the tray and close it, out spits out the disc (and I've tried several different types) about 20 seconds later.
I've tried every option I could find to fix this issue including...
    http://www.macworld.com/forums/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=440595&Main= 439419
(trashing com.apple.kernelcaches, trashing Extensions.kextcache and when those suggestiosn didn't work, trashing ~Home/Library/Preferences/CD Info.cidb - all to no avail)
I've uninstalled and then reinstalled Patchburn. Didn't work.
I used Preferential Treatment to fix my User Prefs and System Prefs.
    Doesn't help.
Now Toast hangs whenever I try and insert a CD while its running - but when I use Toast's "Recorder Settings" to identify the drive it says CD-RW Yes and CD-R Yes.
I really can't understand why this is happening. Isn't the laser that writes to DVD's the same as the one for CD's? If so, where is this "recognition" issue (can't recognize CD's but has no problem with DVD's) happening?
Here's the System Info for this drive:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D:
    Manufacturer: PIONEER
    Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D

    Removable Media: Yes

I'd be very grateful for any help on this issue.

    Hi-
There are two separate laser/laser lens for each of CD and DVD media. You could have lost the CD side. Could also be a blob of dust in the way.
Could try cleaning, or, try and get warranty replacement.

  • New Pioneer DVD drive not recognized in profiler

I have used these forums many times to solve my problems so a big thanks to everyone who contributes. I've never had to actually ask a specific questions until now so here goes....
I have an e-mac running 10.3.9. My superdrive started to get flakey (not recognizing some DVD's, spitting them out, etc.). I followed all the advice here but no luck so I finally replaced the original drive with a Pioneer DVR-118. My problems still exist and the system profiler is telling me I have a Pioneer DVR-106. Did I do something wrong on the install? Shouldn't the profiler recognize the new drive?
A big thank you to anyone who can help me through this.

Since your computer's Apple Hardware Test is on a disc and the built-in optical
drive won't work, you may have to see if an external optical drive capable of
being used as a boot, is available. This of course would be a FireWire combo
type drive that can read & write DVD & CD media and boot Macs.
You may have to see if you can archive anything worth saving from that eMac
and put it on media via another computer; if the eMac can be booted into
Target Disk Mode where it is seen by another computer as a FireWire drive.
In fact, you could see (in a reverse scenario, perhaps?) if another computer's
optical drive could be used by your eMac, if a second healthy computer is
available & then boot it into FireWire Target Disk Mode to see if you can use
the optical drive in there as though it were a peripheral. - This may not work.
I've not had to really use FireWire Target Disk Mode, but do have cables,
and an externally enclosed LaCie FW HDD which is partitioned for clones.
There are times where a FireWire externally enclosed superdrive is handy.
There may be some damage on the logic board or some circuit that does the
controlling of ATA devices on one of the buses in the computer. That would
be a possible cause of the issue. If the identity of this drive can be changed
by the user before it is installed, be sure that is set correctly for use in eMacs.
{The three eMacs I've owned, had issues early on and I got rid of them in mere
days of first purchase; at considerable distance and effort by me. Then I got
an iMac which was an unholy terror to debug after an 'authorized service' ctr
did their best to kill logic boards and sell me defective store-brand RAM they
were authorized to install in a place I was not. ThreeThousand Miles and Six
Months later, I finally got my iMac back, repaired. Only because Apple told
    them to read my test notes - & just install the parts I said it originally needed.}
Do you have a second Mac nearby (presuming yes, and using it online) which
may be used to attempta further diagnostic or testing of the eMac?
Not sure if an Apple Hardware Test would be sufficient to tell the issues in
your computer; if you have a way to make use of it via external FW. Hope-
fully someone with more extensive eMac and drive experience will advise.
    Good luck & happy computing!

How do I connect apple tv 2 to pioneer pdp.s35 tv? I connected to one of my pioneer receiver's hdmi ports but when I cycle through the inputs I can't find apple tv.  Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I don't have or indeed know anything about your receiver, but unless the Apple TV can see an active device and connect via HDMI it won't turn on. You will need to set your receiver to use the correct input and then turn on the Apple TV.
