DVHSCap Help... trying to import micromv to imovie

Need help with DVHSCap.
I have downloaded the SDK22, and have tried running the DVHSCap program, however when i connect my camcorder, it states 'no device detected'.
I have connected the camcorder via the usb cable supplied with my camera, is this correct? or do i need a different cable?
Thanks
Daniel

Try using a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable. they look like this:

  • Has anyone tried to import video into iMovie from a DSLR camera?  I can't get it to work

My problem is simple.... as should be the answer!
I recently tried to import video from a dslr into iMovie but all I get is rubbish.  What am I doing wrong?

The only simple answer  without more information is RTM for camera and iPad. You are in the iOS forum so you must be trying to input to an ipad. Tell us what camera, what video format and exact destination.

  • Trying to import MP4 to iMovie

Alright, so I downloaded a video file from the internet, and the format is apparently MP4. But when I import it to iMovie, it doesn't show up in the event viewer. The event will be created for it, but there's nothing in it. I checked the folder in my iMovie folders, and the file was indeed copied. It just doesn't show up.
I googled this, and someone suggested re-encoding the file as an MP4 in Handbrake, because for some people, that made the file show up in iMovie, which I tried, but apparently Handbrake 0.9.3 doesn't like Leopard 10.5.7 because it keeps crashing just after I start the first encoding process.
Investigation on this revealed that Handbrake doesn't even recommend preparing movies for iMovie using Handbrake, because there's a lot of generational loss along the way. Fine. They recommended converting the file to DV with MPEG Streamclip, another program.
MPEG Streamclip didn't work. All I got was an error that said "Cannot prepare movie". Googling this didn't find me a solution to fix MPEG Streamclip, but DID reveal to me that QuickTime can export MP4's as DV files. So okay. Let's try that.
After exporting my MP4 to DV, and reopening it to check, all I get is a white screen. All the audio is intact. No video. I tried many options and settings and I keep getting the same output. All audio is fine. No video.
Can ANYONE help me get my MP4 file into iMovie?

I also experience this problem. My mp4 clips has been taken with a Samsung NV24HD camera and are HD (720p). I haven't tried to convert these clips but I think it should not be necessary since I can play them in quick time. However I have perian installed, perhaps that's why they play in quick time? The next question is then: Is there a similar plugin to iMovie?

  • TS3634 Help, how to importing video in iMovie'11

I am using the Sony Handycam HDR-HC 9
    OS X 10.8.4, MacBoo Pro early 2011
    iMovie'11
I want to import the video shot with the Handycam into iMovie. The cable I am using is iLink to FireWire 800.
When I put the camera mode in to edit/play and I plug in the cable I excpected to be able to import the HDV into the iMovie.
It does not work, and I must say not any more.
About 6 months ago I did import  video from the same camera to the sam iMovie Aplication on the same MacBook Pro
I could chose the import from and select the Handi cam etc. and I cpuld control from iMovie the handycam.
Recvently I wanted to import clips from the camera to my computer again and I was unableto do so.
In the iMovie app. I am unable to select the camera, in the view finder of the camera it only shows HDV in when I plug in the iLink cable.
The omly thing that has changed in the last 7 months since i last imported movie clips is OSX updates and iLive updates.
    could this be the reason?
If so how can I correct this and import clips again from the camera.
Will realy appreciated if anybody can help me solve this problem.
    Thank you.

    Ok
I tried that but no go.
In the handy cam viewer as soon as I plug in the cabe it shows HDV out iLink and immediatly changes to HDV in iLink. I assume that the cable is right than.
I have no possiblety jet to check the cable but it is only 6 months old and not used much.
The port on the MacBook pro is ok I used a firewire 800 external drive and it shows up an I can browse the disk.

  • Help with photo import quality in iMovie!

The resolution of the iPhoto (5.0.2) pics once dragged into iMovie (5.0.4) severly deteriorates on my iMovie project. The photos are 21 inches widecrystal clear JPEGS in iPhoto, Preview and Photoshop, except once dragged onto iMovie they look blurry and pixely. My digital camera is a Sony 7.2 (shot pixs at 5M)
Playing project footage on full screen in iMovie looks this way as well. So it is not just the import still shot on the clipboard that looks bad.
How do I fix this problem to get clear quality ?

Create your iMovie project in a high quality format (choose the highest one possible) and then the pics you import will be imported in a high quality. iMovie automatically adjusts the quality of your pics and movies based on the quality of the iMovie project you are creating.
I'm not sure what you mean by "a high quality format", hlokty. Are you referring to the iMovie Playback preference, which lets you pick one of three playback settings?
If so, note that preference does NOT affect the quality of the imported image. It has no affect on the quality of project clips like video, photos, or anything else. The preference only affects playback in iMovie itself. Low quality improves the playback smoothness. High quality improves the playback image.
If should be noted that iMovie NEVER shows us all the quality that's there, for either video or photos. That must be kept in mind when viewing photos imported to iMovie. It's important to not judge quality by what you see in iMovie. iMovie is a video editor, not a video player.
There are many Topics here discussing photo quality. To find them, search for words like "blurry" and "jaggies".

  • Trying to import video files.  Clock on files and hit import.  Imovie says generating thumbnails and importing.  Then after loading, no movies there.  help?

My 14 year old son is trying to import videos into iMovie.  He's done this a dozen times before with no problem.  Here is what he's doing "I went to import movies, clicked on the idv files and hit import.  On iMovie it said "generating thumbnails, and importing".  Then it gave the loading sign.  When it was done, none of the movies/videos were in Imovie.  He needs to have this done as a xmas gift for a friend by Thursday .

After much research and troubleshooting, GoToMeeting replied with the final answer: We do not support the uploading of recordings to editing software. If you are having issues uploading a recording, unfortunately, we do not have tools or steps to resolve this. It is not a supported feature. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The no longer plan to support editing of recordings made with their software.  So, we are planning to find a new meeting provider.

  • Can't import .mov into imovie

    Hi,
I got a problem with imovie '09 which is rather puzzling.. I would like to import a video from my digital videocamera (Sony DCR TRV 19E) (which has no USB 2.0 port) on my macbook (which has no firewire port). Since I cannot connect the two, I imported the video on windows xp through movie maker. Then I opened the resulting .wmv file in quicktime and I saved it as .mov. Then I tried to import it in imovie but the file cannot be selected (and therefore imported).
I tried to save the file for web with quicktime and then to import it in imovie. It does work but the video has the flip4mac logo impressed on it (unless I purchase the pro version of quicktime). I also tried to use MPEG streamclip and iConvertX 4.0, but the the resulting files have the flip4mac logo impressed. Does anybody know how to fix the problem?
    thanks very much
    Diego

apparently Lacie doesn't sell such a cable anymore... http://www.lacie.com/us/products/range.htm?id=10045 ... in any case, as far as I know, these cables do not allow the transfer of video from a camcorder to a computer...
The Macbook doesn't have any expansion card slot unfortunately...

  • Trying to import from DVD

    Hi everyone,
I am making a documentary on my friends band. He gave me some extra footage on a DVD-R. I have no problems watching the DVD.
I am trying to import it into IMovie, but it isn't working. I click on "Import" and click on the DVD and it shows 2 files. One is Video T_S and the other is Audio T_S.
In the audio file, there is nothing there. In the video file there is a 7 files, but they are all greyed out. I click on open anyway and it says it is importing, but nothing happens.
Does anyone know what is going on here? If you need to know the names of the 7 files, ask and i will list them.
    Thank you in advance

  • Trouble Importing Photos into iMovie

I am trying to import photos into iMovie and am having trouble. They look like they are importing OK, and when the import is through (the red bar has finished loading) the picture disappears and the clip becomes blank. This is happening when I import from the finder, from iPhoto, or from FILE>Import, and with lots of different photo sizes, none seem to work. My iMovie project file is located on an external drive with tons of space. I have plenty of space of the startup disk, so I don't know why this is happening, and it was working fine a few days ago. Any ideas?

I had this problem last year (August-Sept 2007), and I'm having it again now (August 2008). When I import jpeg photos from iPhoto to iMovie, they turn black and are not accessible in iMovie. In addition, this time when I imported several photos, the replay of the iMovie became jerky. When I threw out the photos, the movie became smoother, the way it was originally. There seems to be some sort of bug that has not been fixed in over a year.

  • I have a an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes. All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem.

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks

  • Why does my iMovie shut down when trying to import videos

When I am trying to import video to my library my iMovie closes and I get a "iMovie quit unexpectedly". How can I fix this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Imovie hung up after trying to import files

    Hello,
my son tried to import some MP4 videos in to imovie 09. It did not work and the program crashed. After we rebooted imovie kept giving the same failure message "the clip file XXX could not be found. Without this file the movie cannot be played". I deleted all remaining MP4 files he had on the computer. The message persisted. I then upgraded to Mac OSx 10.6.8 but the program persisted. I then deleted imovie and reinstalled it. And now we still have the problem. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening and how we can fix it?
    Many thanks

    Hey snowkat,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with iMovie. The following article provides helpful troubleshooting steps:
    iLife: Troubleshooting Basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3249
In my experience, the following section may help to resolve your issue:
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring an iLife application back to its original settings (this will not impact your project files or libraries). To do this:
    1. In the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Home.
    2. Open the Library folder and then the Preferences folder.
    3. Remove the "com.apple.x.plist" file, where "x" should be replaced with the iLife application you are troubleshooting (for example, "com.apple.iphoto.plist" or "com.apple.imovie8.plist").
