kamalmawa,
Yes, 2048x1536 and 2560x1600 are both greater then 1920×1080.
But then again, I never studied new math, so I could be wrong.
Richard
some guy told me that I must have HDMI for 1080p and he also told me about 1080p and 1080i which really made me confused...
I found an article about DVI simply explained in here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI
But I wanted to confirm with you guys as you guys more experienced in this kind of things..
Thx again for the reply Richard..

    hey ,
so i have bought the MSI b85m-g43 recently
and I'm new to computer building
it was my first time and everything went well but in the end i had a problem with the DVI and HDMI
when i connect it to the TV i only get no signal on screen
but that only when I connect it to the motherboard
when i connect it to the GPU everything work the HDMI and the DVI
I really hope there is a solution for this problem
and if some1 could help I'll be rlly thankful to him
btw the usb and internet input works
and sorry for the bad English
    thanks in advance

the CPU has a Graphics Chip in it (Intel® HD Graphics 4600 on that I5-4670k) that is what is used for the onboard outputs on the motherboard and if the graphics card is not in it should switch automatically to that one on the CPU!
it should work without a dedicated graphics card in there like you have because if you are planning anyway to get rid of that one and only have it in to get a display then its pretty much pointless as the CPU can do that on its own! A Graphics card should be used for gaming if its better then your onboard chip so give it a go without the graphics card and see if it turns on the motherboards display outputs!
(motherboards like that will switch to PCI-Express Graphics as they are usually more powerful) but before you try that what is the Graphics card in question here that you have plugged in?

  • G41TM-E43 - DVI and HDMI output at the same time?

I am looking to output to 2x 1920x1200 displays...nothing 3D and nothing that needs to be decoded...just some power point presentatinos and some flash within a browser window.
I am pretty sure the resolution isn't going to be a problem, but using both the DVI and HDMI ports at the same time is something I am concerned about.  I am looking for people with actual knowledge that this works...no guessing please.
    Regards,
    Dan

The likelihood is that you won't be able to use DVI & HDMI at the same time, but you could use one or the other in conjunction with the VGA (D-Sub) port.
But as this is a user-to-user forum, and you may have to wait for someone with actual experience of this to see this thread and respond, for a definitive answer, contact MSI Support direct:

  • Using TV as display with mini dvi and hdmi connections

    Hi
I want to use my flat screen tv as a display for my airbook. I have a mini dvi to hdmi connector (supplied with my mac) and an hdmi cable. When I connect, I can see my wallpaper on the tv and my cursor but nothing else. I can move the cursor on the tv with the trackpad on my mac but there are no icons, toolbars etc. What am I doing wrong and can anyone help?

If you want to see your desktop (icons, menus, etc.) you need to go into Apple Menu: System Preferences -> Displays and select "Mirror Display" under the Arrangement tab. There is also an option that allows you to move the menu bar over to the external display.

  • DVI and HDMI feed to the same HD monitor

I am adding a Black Magic Hd extreme card to my Mac Pro and currently have a 23" Apple display only for editing with FCP (I've been using a Sony Trinitron 14 " CRT TV for SD monitoring in the past). I can't afford a pro HD monitor so will be going down the route of an LCD TV connected via HDMI. I saw a 24" 1080i LCD TV yesterday with both HDMI and DVI inputs and wondered if I could connect the LCD TV monitor to the second DVI output on my Mac Pro AND to the HDMI output from the Black Magic card. I could then switch between the two - 1 way giving me extra deskspace when editing and the other way an HDMI fed HD TV monitor. I'd need some sort of switching unit though. Do you think this is feasible ? Would Final Cut get confused ? Can anyone suggest a way of switching between the two ?

    Maybe I'm tired...
    No, I'm definitely tired, but...
Why do you need a KVM switch? Just switch between the inputs of the display.
OX 10 has no problem if you switch the display from the DVI extended desktop output to something else.
I have both my computer screens on KVM switches and I almost never have a problem making the switch to the alternate side - even while rendering in FCP or Color.
If you must go the KVM route - I really like the Belkin DVI KVM switch with the button on the desktop. I have nothing but problems with KVMs that rely on keyboard shortcuts. As an FCP user they frequently conflict with editing keyboard shortcuts.

Yeah, I'm having the same exact problem - It seems that the thunderbolt minidisplay port is only able to output the analog VGA signal, not the digital signal to support DVI and HDMI. This is a bug that came up after installing 10.7.1. I bought my macbook air with 10.7 on it, upgraded it to 10.7.1 as soon as I got it, so I have never been able to use hdmi or dvi with my macbook air. This is an extremely frustrating problem for me, I used HDMI on a daily basis with my PC. I have spent many hours at the genius bar running diagnostic tests so Apple can get as much information as possible to create a fix for this problem. I have been emailing tech support for 3 or so weeks now, they keep saying that they are working on a fix and it should be out soon, but 10.7.2 has come and gone and I still have no HDMI functionality with my MacBook Air!

  • Trouble running DVI video and HDMI audio out of 6950

    Twin frozr iii 6950 2gb (X2 crossfire)
    Asus VG236 Monitor
    Windows 7
    MSI P67A-G43 Motherboard
    Yamaha RX-V371 Receiver
I have two Twin Frozr iii 2gb 6950 cards and am attempting to use the HDMI on the video card solely for 5.1 audio out to my receiver while using video through the DVI jack of the same card directly to my monitor without success.
-Audio functions if I run the HDMI from the card into my receiver, then out to my Asus VG236 monitor.
-Audio functions when I run from the card to my receiver then out to my plasma tv.
-Audio functions if I have the DVI run directly to the Asus VG236 monitor and HDMI to the receiver then plasma tv (only in dual display and the tv must be on for audio to function this way. If I turn the tv off even though the receiver is still on the audio stops working and windows sound lists the 'AMD HDMI Output' as not plugged in).
-Audio even fuctions when I run DVI to the monitor and HDMI to the receiver, then out to the HDMI port on the same monitor but the monitor will only run at 60hz this way even when DVI is selected on the monitor, as though it defaults to the HDMI when dvi and hdmi are both plugged into the monitor.
And if i run the hdmi to the receiver "HDMI IN" port without using the "HDMI OUT" port from the receiver to anything, like my tv or monitor, the sound doesn't work and in windows sound the "AMD HDMI Output" is listed as "not plugged in" .
I purchased this monitor for the true 120hz capabilities, the HDMI on this monitor doesn't support 120hz, the maximum is 60hz. DVI is required to run at 120hz. I don't see any option in windows sound settings or CCC to resolve this.
I have also tried disabling onboard audio in BIOS with no effect.
For now i'm running the audio out my MOBO jack through an optical cable to the receiver but optical only supports 2.1 sound.
Any suggestions you can offer would be appreciated, thank you

    Anybody?

  • Mac mini, macbook + DVI to HDMI + projector = No soup for you!

This is driving me nuts!!! I have tried 3 different macs, 4 completely different cables/adapters and they all do exactly the same thing.
    1. I connect the mac to the DVI to HDMI cable and/or adapter combo, then connect to the projector
    2. I get 2-30 seconds of wonderful projector screen usage (it works, picture looks crystal clear)
    3. Then POOF! No projector signal, though it appears mac recognizes the projector.
I can repeat from 1 using a different adapter and/or cable and I get exactly the same results, but if I re-use the same cable I used previously, I get no signal at all.
What the $%@! is going on here??? Is Apple black-listing my cables or something??? I'm using everything from cheap-o cables to $$$ cables with exactly the same result.I run this projector with absolutely no problem from a dell desktop via DVI to HDMI.
For what it's worth, I'm connecting to a LG HS201 projector.

You need to connect via DVI or VGA to your projector.
I have had Core2Duo Mac minis working with Sony LCD TVs and a Toshiba Plasma via DVI to HDMI cables with no problems. Obviously audio has to be run separately. There have been many reports from others that this works. It should do since both DVI and HDMI support HDCP and both are digital video connections, this after all is why a simple DVI to HDMI cable works.
What can be an issue is if your trying to do things like 3D or YCbCr colour encoding. However standard video works fine. Another common issue is if your are switching inputs to the TV perhaps via an AV Receiver or if the TV is allowed to sleep or be turned off, in these cases the Mac can see the handshake signal disappear. It is for this sort of situation Gefen makes the DVI Detective+ and the HDMI Detective+.
Since in your case the common factor is your projector and not the computer or cables it might be it at fault. Early HDMI products did have HDCP handshaking problems.
People have been using Mac minis as media center computer with HDMI for ages since the Mac mini is small and quiet, this probably goes back as far as G4 models let alone Core2Duo models.

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked. It had to change the screen resolution to work well, so I don't know if I would want to use it as my day to day monitor. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404

    Hi Maryan,
Open System Preferences > Displays > select the window for you external monitor > click on the Arrangement tab and check the box next to Mirror Displays. It may be slightly different in Lion, but the idea is the same.

  • Mini dvi to hdmi cord and need audio

I have bought the mini DVi to HDMI cord and have no audio. I've researched and just wondered exactly which cord I need to buy. I've read so many but I really want a simply solution.

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. No MacBook carries audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 with the Mini DisplayPort.
