DVI-MDP or Thunderbolt?

Why is my MDP adapter to DVI not working on my New MacBook Air? The screen just flashes. Do I need to purchase a DVI-Thunderbolt adapter? Thank you

I have no ThunderBolt iMac (mine is a 2009) nor one or two of these Samsung Displays.
So I can't say or guarantee that the combination will work.
Some displays simply don't work with Macs for no apparent reason.
Best would be to take your MacBook Pro into the store where you want to buy the Samsung displays and ask for a test.

  • 3 DVI monitors with Thunderbolt Mac Mini

Is it possible to have 3 DVI monitors with Thunderbolt Mac Mini?

    Maybe.
The first could be via a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter
The second could be via a HDMI to DVI cable
The third would have to be via a Displaylink USB adapter
It should be noted that the AMD powered Mac mini 2011 model will handle this workload better.

  • Use DVI PC with thunderbolt iMac (target display)

    Hello everybody,
I'm looking forward to buy the amazing new iMac.
My concern is that I use also a PC (it's my companie's choice) and I would like to use it with my iMac as a second display.
I found articles on the web that indicate target display only works with thunderbolt PC.
My old pc only have a DVI connection.
Is there a way to convert my DVI output to thunderbolt in order to use the target display on my future iMac ?
Does the Apple convert from DVI to Mini DisplayPort is a good way to do what I want ?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Gregoare,
Nope, you can't do any of that conversion(s).

  • How to connect two DVI screens to Thunderbolt Display's Thunderbolt Port?

    Hi everyone,
I have a new MBP and an external Thunderbolt Display. The Thunderbolt Display itself has a Thunderbolt port, and I was wondering if there is anyway to connect to DVI screens to that. My goal is to have the Thunderbolt Display and 2 x 24" Samsung DVI screens connected to my MBP.
Alternatively, has anyone had success using a third party device like the Matrox 2 go to drive multiple monitors from the usb port?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

You could try a TB>DVI adapter (here's one from Monoprice) but I don't know that it will work - I'm thinking that you could have at least one of your Samsung displays use it. You may also want to see if you can find a HDMI>DVI adapter for your second Samsung display - something like this?
I know that I've seen three monitor set-ups on YouTube - but I'm not sure what was connected to what. Easy enough to daisy-chain ATDs but it gets a bit tougher when utilizing HDMI ports, etc., and I'm not sure about the GPUs ability to drive all three displays.
Oops - sorry - strike that second paragraph - I thought that you were running a Retina display MBP...

  • What do I need to hook up an external DVI monitor to Thunderbolt?

I want to hook up an external DVI monitor to my new iMac.
    It has a thunderbolt connection.
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-MB570Z/dp/B001IF5YLQ/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309558497&sr=8-1
Is the above link what I would be looking for? I notice this is for "Mini DisplayPort" and not Thunderbolt?
    Just a little confused Thanks.

You are quite correct.  That's the device you need.  Take a look at your plug and the plug in Amazon's picture for a final check.  If that looks good, click "buy"!
    ThunderBolt supports "mini display port".
Since adapters have been around for a while, they typically don't say anything about ThunderBolt - it's too new.  They talk about "mini display port" only.

  • How to hook DVI screen to ThunderBolt MBPro?

I have an old but beautiful CinemaDisplay HD 23" with ADC connection, I bought back then an ADC to DVI converter when I upgraded the video board of my old PowerMac G4, now I'd like to reutilize the screen with my MBPro 15" early 2012 which has a thunderbolt exit, which converter should I get?
    thank you

It may not work if you have a non-Apple DVI to ADC adapter.

  • Dvi output and thunderbolt

I have a 2008 macbook alunminium and a 2011 imac. I was wondering if there is any way possible at all to output the display of my macbook onto my imac? Just any possible way at all, would be great if there was a way!!
    Cheers

Thunderbolt supports MiniDisplay Port cables without any problem because they use the same port, so you have to buy the MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter to connect the display to the iMac > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter?fnode =51
MiniDisplay Port isn't a separate port on a Late 2012 iMac

  • Broken mini dvi connector on thunderbolt monitor, any way to repair?

I found instructions on how to remove the LED panel from the housing, but I could but find where to get a replacement 3 in 1 cable.

Have you tried pricing the repair at an apple athorized service center?

  • HDMI vs Mini DP vs DVI vs Thunderbolt

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and a 2.26 GHz processor. When I connect to an external monitor and try to watch videos on youtube or netflix, I get choppy quality. This does not happen on my laptops display even while the external monitor is plugged in. I am connected via DVI (on the monitor side) to Mini DP on my computers side.
I am currently looking at getting another monitor. Possibly the TB display or the Dell U2711. I would like to be able to watch smooth video on my external monitor. If I get the TB display I would also need a new MacBook which luckily I can afford at the moment. Would running Thunderbolt from computer to monitor help resolve the choppy-ness? Is connecting via Display Port going to be as effective if I get the Dell screen? Or is all of this just because I have a dated Video Card (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics)?

    Hi Stefan,
I'm not much of an expert, but I would suggest it might be the MDP to DVI convertor at fault here. (If you have one) I had this problem too.
If this however, is not the case, I would suggest not getting the Thunderbolt Display, but the LED Cinema Display instead, as it is meant for mdp while thunderbolt is not nativley supported. I think your GPU and Macbook are fine as my Macbook is even older and still works fine. Also, maybe check your internet connection.
As I said, I am pretty hopless at this sort of stuff, but I hoped it helped anyway.

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

  • Connect third party monitor to iMac thunderbolt

Trying to help my brother find some answers.  He is going to purchase the newest iMac and knows that a monitor can be connected via the Thunderbolt port, but needs to know what kind of adapter he might need to connect a third party monitor.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thank you in advance

He needs a Mini Display Port to either VGA, DVI or HDMI adapter. The MDP and Thunderbolt connections are the same size. If he wan't a really nice external monitor tell him to get the Apple Thunderbolt Display. Those retail for $999 but can be found on Apple's refurbished store for $849 which is a good buy.

  • Where can i buy an thunderbolt to video adapter for my macbook pro i7?, where can i buy an thunderbolt to video adapter for my macbook pro i7?

I recently upgraded my macbook pro 1,1 to a macbook pro i7 i had a dvi-i to video adapter to connect it to the tv.
the new macbook i7 uses thunderbolt to connect, i bought a dvi-d to thunderbolt connection to bridge with the old adapter but this now doesnt work.
is there a thunderbolt to video adapter? or can anyone suggest a proper way to connect the two?

The only Thunderbolt display I'm aware of is Apple's.  However, the Thunderbolt port on your MBP is also a mini-displayport and that is the normal way of connecting an external display to your MBP.  You therefore need a mini-displayport to whatever you need on the TV end, e.g. HDMI.  Apple have a good selection of cables on their online store.

  • How do I use my late 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output.

May be this question has been asked thousand times. how do I use my mid 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output. if apple hasn't removed that feature and has just moved that functinoality to thunderbolt then how can I use it. currently there is no laptop available with thunderbolt output. no 3rd party converter available. whats the use of having feature on latest functionality if we cant use it. I wish they would have made one port has mini-dvi and other thunderbolt for backward compatibility untill some vendor comes up with converter.

    It Says :
Mac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
Name one computer model/vendor which has thunderbolt as output for display + audio. this is so stupid to move to new technology without availbility of its compatible devices.

  • Mac Mini DVI Monitor Problems

    Hi all,
I'm running OSX10.8.5 on a Mac Mini 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory and Intel HD 4000 512MB graphics.
I've just upgraded my monitor from a VGA 17" to an AOC E2462VWH 24" monitor, plugged into my computer via DVI with a Thunderbolt adaptor.
In a normal boot-up, the monitor displays video for a split second and then cuts to black. The picture works fine in Safe Boot mode but video is jerky, everything loads slower, I can't play .mov files (Quicktime tells me unknown error -101) and there is an annoying flicker every 10 seconds. The fact the monitor works fine in Safe Boot suggests to me the problem is software. Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz and OSX is not letting me change that via Settings.
I went searching for drivers only to lean it sounds like OSX deals with monitors in a plug-n-play format. Is this true?
Firstly, can I confirm my mini has the power to drive this monitor?
Besides that, can you please help me figure out how to boot this computer so the monitor displays in normal boot-up mode?
    Thanks for your help!

Then it sounds like yo need one of these:
