DVI MONITOR will it work?

My mini has a DVI output for the monitor, I can't afford an Apple display, will another monitor work if it has a DVI intertface? If so, any recommendations? My mini was Christmas present. I haven't hooked it up to try it out yet. Thought getting this monitor question figured out first would be a good idea.
THANK-YOU

I'm not sure of the model, I think it's fairly recent. It has 5 USB200 ports, and a firewire 800 port, as well as the DVI and mini DVI PORTS.
Thanks again.

  • HP 2311C USB Monitor will not work with Windows 8.1

Just done a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my HP Spectre XT Pro.
The HP2311C monitor is working fine as a USB hub and the built-in Network card but will not detect the monitor as a USB monitor.
This was working when it was a Windows 8 build and previous Windows 7 build.
I have downloaded and installed all the HP drivers and run the HP Support Assistant to make sure everything is up to date.
My two other collegues who have done the same upgrade with the same kit and are also having the problem.
If we plug the HP2311C into a Windows 8 or Windows 7 machine the USB monitor works fine.
Tried several reboots, connections and uninstalls, which have not worked. Also there are no event logs to suggest an anwser.

I am having the same problem with my SPECTRE PRO 13 and Windows 8.1 - most unhappy about it. There is no 8.1 driver for the L2311c and I get no help out of HP as to when there might be one . These items are not cheap in NZ and I feel I have wasted my $$. It works fine on XP!

i renamed neo-mertic.xml to neo-metric.cf8 (as backup) and
    renamed neo-metric.bak (the cf7 version) to neo-metric.xml ,
restarted cfservice and now cfstat works and there's a jrun

you may be able to fix it by simply changing
    <number></number> to <string></string> in
the existing version of neo-metrics.xml (unless the tag order does
    count)...I didn't try that...
note: I had already applied the dll fixes so that may or may

  • HDMI - DVI - Composite (Will This Work)?

I have an older big screen TV which does not have HDMI nor component video connections.
Since AppleTV has HDMI and HDMI/DVI cables are available, is it possible to connect a DVI/Composite cable to the HDMI/DVI cable in order to output the video to the composite TV connection?
    It would look like:
    AppleTV -> HDMI/DVI cable -> DVI/Composite cable -> TV composite video connection
    Thanks

Some people have reported success connecting the ATV to older sets but the picture of course will be squished and not all older sets are capable.
The success will arise because of component connections available on some older tv's. If all you have is composite, without some kind of converter the best you can do is black & white by connecting the green (I think) component connector on the tv to the yellow composite one on the tv.

  • Second monitor will no longer work with 10.9.3 update

    Hi everyone,
I just updated to 10.9.3 and now my second monitor will not work. My Mac doesn't even recognize it.
I have a thunderbolt to Firewire connector on my Mac Pro going to a DVI connector to my monitor. I've repaired permissions and tried different ports, but nothing is happening.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Install the combo like kinman1 said. Mine was fixed afterwards too.

After that you can also try a PRAM reset.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Don't setup an XServe with a DVI monitor if you intend to use a VGA monitor

    Hi Forum Folks.
A bit of a "gotcha" to warn others about, with XServes, and VGA vs DVI monitors.
We Recently re-setup (erase + install a fresh OS) on a 2008 XServe Xeon, with a DVI (Digital) monitor connected. All worked fine, and we went to move the server into the production environment.
However, when we moved + plugged the XServe into it's new home (a rack), it would not boot (flashing question mark).
Moving the Xserve out of the rack, and back to it's work-bench setup, made it work again.
We traced the problem to the monitor we used... If we hooked up a digital (DVI) monitor, the XServe worked fine (with the mini DVI to DVI connector). If we hooked up a VGA monitor (with a mini DVI to VGA connector) that's when the XServe wouldn't boot. We tried a variety of common techniques to solve the problem, including resetting various settings, re-installing Mac OS X 10.5.6 Server over the top etc.
    The solution:
(Although I'm sure there are simpler solutions):
We setup the server again (from scratch) using the VGA monitor combination from the very start of the setup, and all worked fine (on VGA or DVI monitors). The server is happily in production now, with it's VGA output.
So the lesson here: Always set up your XServe using a VGA-based monitor in the first instance.
    Hope this helps someone else.
    Cheers,
    Derek

So the lesson here: Always set up your XServe using a VGA-based monitor in the first instance.
... or don't use a monitor at all
I don't think I've ever used a monitor when setting up a server - maybe used a KVM if I've re-installed or upgraded the OS, but for the main part every install I do is run remotely.
Still it's good to know, especially since it defies logic.

  • Second monitor no longer works

Just did the software update (10/17/2012) for OS X and upon restart my second monitor will not work. Checked the actual monitor and it is fine. Any one else experience this?

    Thanks for checking in, Jason.
I've been working with Matt on this issue, and your link contains a partial list of the various things that we have tried. Sad to say, none of which have worked.
We have any number of additional items which we've tried, including cables, res levels, resetting PRAM, SMC, deleting preferences, even to the point of installing an older kext for video.  None of these have worked.  This 27in LG monitor simply does not work with this 27in iMac, under either Yosemite or Mountain Lion.
Interestingly enough, a 23in NEC monitor works fine with the 27in iMac, and the 27in LG monitor works with a smaller iMac running Yosemite.  The only difference that we're aware of between the two iMacs would be a minor speed difference in the CPU, the screen size, and the video card.  Matt identified the differences in his post above.
The conclusion we've come to is that Apple removed some of the supporting code for the Radeon 4670 video card.  From an intensive search on a variety of Mac websites, this problem has been occurring under Yosemite with other iMacs and MacBooks using external monitors for months.
This is a pretty big deal, since this machine was slated for replacement.  However, there's no point in purchasing a newer iMac if it won't function with what is otherwise a good high-res monitor.  Right now, we're looking at downgrading Yosemite to Lion, and we're also going to visit the local Genius Bar.

  • Monitor won't work via mini-dvi to dvi adapter

It's a brand spanking new mac mini. I attached a 5 year old lcd monitor (always used before as VGA) using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. I am using the monitor's dvi connector. The monitor resolution is 1280x1024.
The monitor does not work when using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. If I remove the mini-dvi adapter and use a mini displayport to dvi adapter, it works just fine. I can keep both adapters plugged in and plug the cable into one or the other. It always works instantly when attached to the minidisplay port and doesn't work if I switch to the mini-dvi port.
I've tried the display with mini-dvi adapter on my macbook too. On the laptop, it acts like there are two screens attached, but there is no action on the external display.
As a further test, I attached the mac mini to the TV via a mini-dvi to hdmi adapter. The mini-dvi port on the mini works fine, as does the port on the laptop. The monitor works fine via minidisplay, but not mini-dvi.
Naturally, I concluded that the mini-dvi adapter was faulty. A second adapter came today, and nothing has changed. Could I have received two Apple mini-dvi adapters in a row with problems? Is there something about the monitor that doesn't like the mini-dvi port? It seems like it wouldn't like the minidisplay port either, but that one is fine.

    • Went to Best Buy
    • Paid for a DYNEX Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter ($25)
    • Came home and plugged in the adapter then the HDMI to DVI cable to the monitor. (Note: Monitor is a LG Flatron L22WTG) - DID NOT WORK
    • iMac knows monitor is plugged in and I can change the resolution on both monitors and mirror. (Note: Changed to every resolutions with/without mirror image.) - DID NOT WORK
    • Restarted computer - DID NOT WORK
    • Turned off/on LG monitor many times - DID NOT WORK
    • Unplugged/plugged back in many different ways - DID NOT WORK
    • Changed the HDMI to DVI cable with a better cable - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed BootCamp with Windows 7 - *BOTH WORK 100%*
    • Rebooted to OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed Windows XP - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Reinstalled OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Updated OS X from 10.6.4 to 10.6.7 - DID NOT WORK
Seems to be a driver problem with the new update (10.6.7). I will not update again till drivers are fixed.

  • Macbook 13" Core 2 Duo, Mini DVI to DVI will not work (Mini DVI to VGA OK)

I've recently purchased a used Macbook 13" with a Mini DVI out display port. When I try to use a Mini DVI to DVI adapter to an Acer X223W (or a few other Acer / Dell models), the Macbook screen either blinks blue to white constantly or doesn't do anything at all. When I use a Mini DVI to VGA adapter, it works fine, however, the MAC does not give an option for my monitors native resolution (1680 x 1050).
At first I thought there was a physical issue with the Mini DVI port, however the VGA adapter works fine. I've also tried a new DVI adapter in case the first one was defective - same results.
Am I missing something here? I don't think there are options to upgrade drivers on a MAC (I'm semi-new to the platform).
    Thanks in advance!
    Dan

What happens if you try just the monitor, e.g. keep the lid down on the MB? The MB should be attached to it's AC adapter to try this. Also, some kind of USB device will be needed to wake up the closed MB. Pretty much anything hot-plugged into a USB port on the MB will cause it to wake up. Would be curious to know if a DVI monitor works under those conditions.

  • What Monitors WILL work with the Mac-Mini?

If the new Mac-Mini does not put out analog video and Apple does not state this, what monitors will work with it?

I was able to get an Apple Studio Display to work via the adapter in the Mac Mini box combined with that huge DVI to ADC adapter they had sold me years ago. In the Apple Store I really had to press them to assure me my display would work as they told me they'd charge me a re-stock fee if I had to bring the Mini back. I pressed the point that Apple should know if a monitor it made works with a computer it made. The rep asked around and we both searched the web and then she was able to confirm it would work. They really need a list of acceptable monitors. If anyone locates such a list, please let us all know!
