Dvi - no signal on new screen

Hi,
I got my new Acer AL2423 yesterday, very nice screen, but I only get it to work on VGA and on not so good resolution, 1600x1200. When DVI is connected 'no signal' only comes up on the screen. According to Acer the screen will know if it's digital or analog signals, so there is no button or anything like that on the screen to switch. What can be wrong? Graphic card? (Nvidia GeForce Fx5200 64mb), have never been running the computer (PM 2x1.8) with a dvi screen before, only a vga screen. The call was disconnected when I talked to Acer (after been waiting over 15 min to get through, phew), so all my questions wasn't answered. Thought I would check out a few more things before calling back and heading into that cue again, with mac folks etc.
I've been resetting PRAM a few times with no different result. Is there anything more I can do? It's DVI-D on the screen and DVI-I on the graphic-card on the PM, but that should work, shouldn't it? I am no screen wizard, have only had one screen with my PM all the time. Will soon get my MBP from service (with a fixed lidlock) and so I can test if the screen and DVI works on that one. That could exclude anything wrong with the screen for instance. It would be nice if you had any qualified thoughts that could help me after a night of googling, searching and testing?

After I removed the card and replaced it I couldn't get a signal on VGA either. So I guess I wont bother to test the ADC port with that result. Will make another try tomorrow to be certain, but it seems like the card is gone. I guess the flimmering that has been going on for a few months on the old screen had more to do with the graphic card then the other screen then. I thought the screen were getting old....but well the g-card is older Was some weird color flashes that happened as well on VGA when I tested around on the G5.
The screen is btw wonderful when running on MBP, and how less complicated computer problems gets when having 2 computer, can't even imagine how life was before.
Again, thank guys....

  • DVI - No Signal - 560ti Hawk

    Hi all,
I have had my GTX560ti Hawk(great card when it works...) for a couple of months now & from the second week i have been receiving a 'dvi no signal' error on a black screen. It is very random & can happen anytime wether my pc is idle, browsing,(never actually happend during gaming tho).My first couple of times it happened i had to clear CMOS to get back to windows but now i just hard shut down & reboot. The weird thing is when it happens,i still have sound & my music will keep playing like nothing is wrong.I have tested both DVI & VGA & still get the error, also i have tested both ram sticks & dimm slots,HDD,DVD Drive & all have been given the pass mark (i was thinking it might be the mobo).
I am starting to think it is the GPU,voltage maybe ? power issue ? I have never touched any settings in afterburner other than set up my fan profiles so everything is stock. My temps run fine @ idle (30 degrees) & under load (75 degrees in BF3),no issues there.Case cooling is excellent.EVER driver & bios is up to date unless there has been a msi GPU bios update for this card in the last month ??? Any & all help is appreciated

I've been having similar problems myself with the screen crashing and going black when hovering the cursor over a browser link, lots of 560 Ti users have. I can't be sure you are experiencing my exact problem but I think swapping drivers is worth a try, it sure can do no harm. As far as I know the only game making good use of the newest Nvidia drivers (anybody can correct me on that if needed, lately I played The Witcher 2, Hard Reset and  Deus Ex Human Revolution, I might not be completely up to date with the most current games and related driver issues) is Battlefield 3. Incidentally this forum has seen a big increase in the number of new users complaining of problems occurring when playing BF3, from what I read especially in multiplayer. Another forum to check is the Nvidia one.

  • DVI Routing to get Presenter SCreen on Multiple Displays

Got a good one for you ... have you ever encountered this and found a solution via additional hardware or a software setting?
My client has a single MacBook Pro laptop running Keynote that they are looking to feed not only to a video switcher, but also to a 50" downstage confidence monitor so they can see theri slides from the stage when they present.
I know if I set the laptop to not "mirror" displays, I can get the presentation coming out of the DVI connection and the "Presenters Screen" on the laptop. How do I "split" the signal coming out of the laptop so I can have the "Presenters Screen" on the laptop AND on the confidence monitor, but the main presentation be sent to the video switcher which will feed the projection system in the conference room?
Of course, I could get a second laptop, load the presentation on that so I've got another source, but I am hoping to not have to track changes on two laptops or have to advance them both with one staggered one slide ahead.

A video splitter will NOT split the signal going to the laptop screen.
What you might want to try is a displaylink device. The company makes usb video chips...it means you can buy a usb to DVI or VGA adapter and possibly assign the presenter screen to that output. The problem becomes...will Keynote see the third display and let you put the presenter screen on it. I know you can't mirror 2 displays and not the third, so that's not an option either.
hope that helps! I wish I had one of these devices to test on so we'd just know for sure.
The RIGHT way to do this, I suspect, is to use a tower or new Mac Mini, and split the presenter feed. Both of those solutions ALREADY have 2 distinct video outputs, unlike a laptop which uses feed 1 to send to the built in screen.

  • New monitor can not detect signal from new referb pc

Monitor is a new flat screen,  model 2310m full HD with  vga, hdmi, and dvi-d connectors and boot up CD which includes pdf manual and video drivers etc..
PC is a referb Pavilion M9200t first time started since referb with a G-Force GT graphics card (1 gigabite) and dual DVI-D connections. No VGA or HDMI out. OS is vista ultimate that I will probably update to windows 7 if I ever get it set up. Monitor does not get a signal from new PC with DVI-D cable or a VGA cable with an adapter. Monitor works fine with my old XP PC after installing drivers  and using the vga cable. New PC has no VGA out, so I bought a VGA to DVI-D adapter thinking that it would have proper drivers for a VGA monitor with no success. I also tried new PC on my old monitor with the DVI-D adapter on the VGA cable and that didn't work either. I can't do a first run setup without a monitor and the monitor won't work without a signal.
I bought the PC from a friend who decieded to buy a laptop instead and had never started it. He bought it from someone who was selling referbs on E-bay and messed up and accidently started the warranty period  or so they say.
Also when I plug the PC in the fan starts and continues running till I do a hard shutdown, that is holding start button down till the PC shuts off. If I unplug and replug the computer it starts again without pushing start button. Does anyone think it is the graphics card issue or maybe power supply, or just not booting at all?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.------Thanks in advance.----Larry

Ok, thats the procedure I was talking about earlier. I did that bios default factory reset just now. First the version 6 and earlier. It didn't work so I tried version 7 and later and that didn't work. I then tried version 6 and earlier again only this time pushed F10 more rapidly and got right in right when I got to the F5 and enter portion. Then I pushed F10 again to save the change and enter again to close. The PC didn't boot up the next screen like the test said it would. So I did it all again and spent some time reading what was on the bios pages but  accidently pushed ESC as the bios menu suggested instead of enter to close out   . No boot up screen again. I did another hard shutdown and then unplugged the cord for 5 minutes and this time the PC stayed off when I plugged it back in. The bios are set to default but I cannot get it to start again in safe mode or boot up. So if the power supply is working properly, and the monitor worked in safe mode, then the video card must be good. right?
So I'm editing from the night before, its Monday morning here in Wi. and I'm sorry to say that after leaving the PC unplugged all night that when I plugged it back in this morning, the dumb thing started again without pushing the  start button.  So the only thing doing a recovery on the bios accomplished was to prove that my the video card can run the monitor in safe mode which is a good thing I guess. Hope someone has an idea as to what else I can try.-------thanks

  • DVI or VGA for Plasma Screen?

    Hello,
I am looking to get a video out lead for the new white macbook to plug into a 50" Plasma LG tv. The tv is at least 4 years old, hence plasma, not LCD.
It has both a DVI and VGA input. Which one should I use? I haven't bought the mini-dvi cable yet, so I am essentially asking, which one should I buy? Does one type of input work better for widescreen and plasma TVs?
    Thanks
    Jamie

I googled your question and it seems there are several opinions...I thought DVI would be a slam dunk as it's digital as opposed to VGA's analog signal but I was wrong. That said if you have access to both displays see which looks better to you....if I didn't have access I'd probably just go with DVI because it's newer technology. Just my opinion though.

  • No VGA or DVI input signal

I recently found my old HP Pavilion a6228x after 2 months of not using it, and hooked it up to my  w1907 monitor with a vga cable.  It says that there is no VGA or DVI input signal, with the black arrow pointing at DVI. I can't switch from DVI to VGA because everytime I press the menu button, the screen will say "Monitor going to sleep." The monitor works fine with my laptop and the same vga cable. Help?

    Hi,
Since the monitor and cable are known to be good then make sure that you are plugging the video card into the video card's VGA port if a a video card is installed.  If the video card has a DVI port then use a native DVI cable between the monitor and the video card.
If there is a video card in your PC then try reseating it (remove and replace). If that doesn't work then remove the video card and plug the VGA cable into the motherboard's VGA port.
Only connect one active video feed to the monitor.
Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

  • My Ipad will not receive signal from new home Xfinity modem.  I reset Pad but still doesnt work.

My Ipad will not receive signal from new home Xfinity modem.  I reset Pad but still doen't get WIFI

Does it not show the presence of a wifi signal, or just not connect?
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I just got to school after getting a new screen put on my 13in macbook pro. when i opend up my macbook there was only a apple simble and the loading sing with a bar at the botton it took fovere to load, one it loaded and opend up there was a few options to pic from saying i could get all my datata back, i got confused and called the tec support where they wanted me to spend 90$ to back up my data, i feel as if they fixed my screen my data should be there when i go on it. I am a broke colage studend and need to get my work done. To sum it all up How do i get all my data back that happend to get lost while my screen was being repaird at the apple store?

Apple has a 90 warranty warranty on all of their repairs.  You should take your computer back to the repair shop.  Or call Apple Customer Relations (800) 767-2775.  Wait for a human to come on the line and ask politely and firmly that you want to be transferred over to the Customer Relations department.  Tell them your issue.

  • TS1398 I recently got a new screen for my iPhone 4s and now no wifi networks are showing up when I turn the wifi on.

I tried resetting my networks and turning my phone on and off with the wifi turned on, but neither of it worked. I don't know what to do and I really need wifi on my phone for tomorrow.

Did Apple install the new screen?  Or an Authorized Apple Service Provider?  If so, you should return to the location that replaced your screen to see if they didn't hook something up properly.
If it wasn't an Authorized Apple Service Provider, or an Apple Retail store, You should take it back to them and discuss it with them.  In this case, Apple will likely not offer any replacement service as it was opened by an unauthorized third party.

How can I hook up my DVI Adapter onto my new MacBookAir if the machine does not have a mini port (but only 2 USBs and 1 Thunderbolt)?
Is there a DVI adaptor already for Thunderbolt?

The Mini Display port and Thunderbolt port use compatible connector bodies. Your current Mini Display to DVI or VGA adapter will still work as before on the newer Thunderbolt capable machines.

    Hi j2399123,
It sounds like your screen recording is doing what it was designed to do, capture what is happening on your screen, with optional voice over with the microphone.
Screen recording is for recording what you see on the screen, it is not a "video capture" option, like for capturing a movie with sound that is playing on your screen.
For the QuickTime recording options, check out "Recording with QuickTime Player" in
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files
