DVI Output Not Working

Whenever I plug in my mini-DVI cable into my MacBook, my computer freezes up (i.e. mouse does not work, can't type anything etc...)
Earlier today I had my mini-DVI cable plugged into my MacBook and was using my computer on an external display. This has been working fine since the past 6 months. However, when I walked away from my computer today and came back, I tried to wake it up by pressing a key or the mouse button on my external keyboard/mouse as usual. This did not wake-up my computer and I just heard the fan constantly running.
After failing to wake-up my computer, I opened the lid of my MacBook and forced a shut-down by holding down the power button. With the mini-DVI still plugged in, I turned on my computer again but it would just freeze up at the grey screen where you have the Apple logo. Only after I removed the mini-DVI cable would my MacBook start-up.
I removed all the cables attached to my MacBook including the AC adapter, removed the battery, and held down the power button for 10 seconds to see if that would do anything. Unfortunately I am still having the same problem with my DVI port.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
- Albert

I don't know what the return policy is at an Apple store in regards to accessories such as cables, etc. I think they have a 10% restocking fee on computers. I bought my mini-DVI cable at a Mac store and was told there that I could bring it back and get a full refund. My understanding is that "Mac" stores are not owned by Apple although they sell Apple products.
So, if you have a Mac store in your area, get a new one there and be careful opening the package so that you can reseal it if you need to return it for credit.

I tried connecting my external monitor to the DVI output of the Mini Dock and it did not work.  I have since connected it with no issus to the VGA output.
However, I want to use the digital (DVI) connection for my monitor........how can i fix this issue?
NOTE: I have a T410 with the integrated graphics so my laptop screen does not display while docked (I keep the lid closed).

    Hi MarkinIt,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with no Display when connected to docking station on your ThinkPad T410.
Have you checked updating the Intel graphic driver from Lenovo support site?
Please provide the current Graphic driver version showing in device manager.
Is the system having Windows 7 or Windows 8 OS?
    Hope this helps.

  • Mini-Displayport to DVI adapter not working, but Mini-Displayport to VGA and Thunderbolt work fine

Mini-Displayport to DVI adapter not working, but Mini-Displayport to VGA and Thunderbolt work fine.
This is a brand new MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2012) just received.  I suspect that this is a hardware problem as:
The mini-displayport to DVI adapter and the external monitor that I am utilizing connect and operate just fine using my older MacBook Pro (mid-2010) with the same OS.
The new MacBook Pro powers the external monitor with a mini-displayport to VGA adapater without issue.
The new MacBook Pro powers an Apple Thunderbolt display without issue.
Both MacBook Pro's are running OSX Lion 10.7.4.
The only combination which does not work is the mini-displayport to DVI adapater used in conjunction with the brand new MacBook Pro (mid-2012).
All adapters and components (mini-displayport adapters) are Apple retail adapter.
I have tried several external monitors, including my Dell U2412m.
When I connect the mini-displayport to DVI adapater to the new MacBook Pro (mid-2012), nothing happens. The external monitor reports "no signal" and attempts to go into sleep mode.  Using the "Detect displays" button has no effect, even when used multiple times.  Rebooting does not help, nor does resetting the SMC or PRAM.
Any other suggestions before I take it to the Genius Bar?

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

  • Mini DVI does not work in windows

I have no problem using the Mini DVI adapter in OSX but when I go into windows it does not work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The only reason why I use windows is for the TVUplayer, which currently has no version for OSX

When you boot into Windows, you need to change graphics options to tell the OS to output to the External monitor. On the macbook is the intel GMA950 graphics chip and it comes with intel software when you install the drivers. If you go to control panel in Win XP, there is an intel section in there. You can then set the options to output to an external monitor either mirrored or extended desktop, and it will remember and do what you selected each time you boot into windows

  • HDMI output not working with AT200 under ICS

    Hello
The HDMI output of my tablet AT200 doesn't work with any TV set.
My AT 200 tablet is under ICS.
I tried both HDMI configurations : full screen and video window. No effect at all.
I have red the post of denis48 and the response of MasterG and tried his propositions with no success
Is there somebody to help me please ?

    Hi

    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=67654
The output should work as its described in the posting.
If it does not work, reset the tablet settings and try again

  • HDMI output not working with AT 200 under ICS

    Hello,
I connected the HDMI output to a Sony KDL 32 E 5500. It simply does not work.
The same TV HDMI input works fine with a DVD player.
The AT 200 tablet is under ICS (upgrade in France).
I tried both HDMI configurations : full screen and video window.
Should I send it back for repair ?

    Hi
There are two outputs: Mirror and video area only.
    Mirror:
External device copies the image on the tablet screen
    Video area only:
The external display device shows the playback when open a multimedia
But You should firstly check the Android Settings:
Under the option Screen you will find the option HDMIO video mode
Tap this to switch between the HDMI video output mode.
You could also try to connect the HDMI device under following conditions:
    - Tablet is turned on
    - Tablet is completely turned off
    - when you connect TV or external monitor to HDMI port, then display output is set to HDMI
    - when you plug and replug the cable, wait at least 5 sec before you replug the HDMI cable.

  • HDMI output not working since firmware upgrade

I would appreciate troubleshooting tips for getting the HDMI output to work. I just tried it recently for the first time in a long while, approximately 4 weeks after doing the firmware update to 2.2. When I did it before, plugging in the HDMI cable would automatically start output to my HD TV. Now that is no longer the case. Changing the HDMI output from "Auto" to "720p" does not make a difference either.
Otherwise, everything works well and I've been satisfied with my Creative 7 to date. I have installed several apps so it could be that there is a conflict and nothing related to the firmware upgrade.
Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I've received my refurbished device for about a week now. The HDMI still doesn't work either with Zii Video or a 3rd party app MoboPlayer. ?I am tempted to reinstall the firmware upgrade again. Is it ok to try this or is it only a one time attempt?
Perhaps this should be a separate thread but are any of the "Phone 2 SD" apps compatible with the Ziio 7? Whenever I use the "Move to SD card" option, there is still no program moved to the external SD card. ?I have a Ziio 7 with 6 GB of memory as well as a 6GB micro SD card. ?My memory settings are:
    - SD Card: total space - 5.43GB; Available space - 5.43GB
    - Device media storage: Total space - 2.48GB; Available Space - 2.3 GB
    - System storage: Total Space - .97 GB; Available space - .59GB
In Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, the "On SD Card" tab lists several programs lists several apps but none of them are actually on the external SD card.

When you press FN+F5 key combination while notebook is not connected with HDMI cable, you will see one option (LCD) only. When you connect HDMI cable can you see other additional options like LCD, LCD+HDMI, HDMI and so on?
Please be also sure that right HDMI port on your TV is enabled.
By the way: which OS do you use?

  • Mini Display port DVI adapter not working on Thunderbolt Port

For some time I've been using a mini display port to DVI adapter on an slightly older MBP to connect to my HD TV.  I recently purchased a MBP with a Thunderbolt port and when I try to connect it to my TV via my mini-display-port-DVI adapter things are not working properly.  The MBP is seeing the Philips TV but it isn't listing all the display modes and I'm not able to send any video to it.  Does the Thunderbolt port require a new display port to DVI adapter?

Let me be clearer; I've got the MDP-DVI adapter connected to a cable that is DVI on one end and HDMI on the other.  I've got both laptops so I can compare side by side.  I plug in the MDP-DVI adapter to the old laptop and all works well; I plug it into the new laptop and while the laptop does see the TV, the display modes for it are all 1080p which is wrong I don't see any desktop image on the TV unlike when I plug it into the older laptop.  This is very disappointing as I expect things to just work with Apple products.

  • Mini DVI-Adapter Not Working

Today I went to the Apple Store and got myself one of those fancy new Mini-DVI to DVI adapters, hoping it would work with my screen at home, which I had previously running on the Mini Displayport to VGA Adapter on my original MacBook.
Strangely, when I plugged the cable into the adapter, and into my computer, nothing happened. I did not get video on the screen, nor did my MacBook detect it. I have tried re-plugging the Mini-DVI adapter and clicking Detect Displays in the Displays Preferences multiple times, but no luck.
I have seen the screen work with DVI about a year ago, but that was on one of the original MacBook Pros. Am I better off returning this DVI adapter and instead buying a Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter?
Thanks for any help in resolving this problem.

I have a 22 inch ViewSonic that I got from a friend about a year ago. I did indeed plug the monitor directly into the adapter.
I brought my computer, adapter and cable all into the Apple Store, and they said it was all OK, but did replace my DVI adapter thinking it was probably defective. I got home, tested it on my monitor, but still not working. I tested it on a newer HP monitor that's on the family computer, and oddly it worked there.
A bit of research revealed that the adapter did not send Analog signals on DVI anymore, which confuses me, since the MacBook actually does have Analog signals on that port. I brought my DVI adapter in original packaging in to the Apple store again, and they replaced it with a VGA adapter for free, and sure enough, that solved the problem for me.
Lesson Learned - don't use DVI with older monitors, stay with VGA.

  • DVI port not working anymore after latest BIOS update on T410s

    Hi all,
after installing the most recent BIOS update via ThinkVantage System Update, the DVI port in my T410s does not work anymore. Nvidia and Intel display drivers are in place, and I also checked the BIOS settings, but to no avail. It appears that the DVI port is no longer recognised by the system at all.
    Thanks and cheers!

Do you mean the DVI port on the docking station?

  • Macbook mini-DVI - DVI - HDMI not working with My 32" Vizio

Okay so my Macbook mini-DVI - DVI - HDMI is not working with My 32" Vizio. I've connected an 18 pin plus one slot DVI to HDMI cable to my 32" Vizio HDTV, this cable is connected to my macbook via a Mini-DVI to DVI cable, this one has 24 pins plus one slot on the DVI side. My Vizio display is blue, no signal, it reads. I'm wondering if the reason it's not picking up the display is the lack of pins on the DVI to HDMI or because I dont have any display options aside from screen size and color on my display menu. BTW I hit the detect display button and nothing happened.... I know I just wrote alot here but hopefully someone will read it and come to the rescue. thanks

Oops, I guess all I had to do was restart my macbook. I feel like an idiot.....all is well.

  • DVI cable not working, but VGA one will. Graphics card problem?

Ok so. I have a Mac Pro with ATi 1900XT card. Was using a Samsung LCD for a while, via a DVI-VGA adapter. Works fine. Two days ago, I attached another monitor, a DGM, to the second DVI port using a DVI lead; the one supplied with the monitor. Everything worked fine.
Then today, I tried the same thing, but the second monitor only works at one particular resolution; 1280x800 or something. And the picture is a bit crappy. So, I tried with only the DGM monitor plugged in the first DVI port. Apple symbol at start up, and then just a black screen.
Swapped over to a VGA lead, and everything works perfectly again.
So, is the problem with the cable, the monitor, or the graphics card?
Maybe the cheapo cable is just not very good? But why it works only at one resolution? Weird. And it did flicker on at a couple of other resolutions, but went off again. And even at the one resolution it worked at, there was a secondary 'mirror' image of part of the screen, at one side of the screen.
Very strange, considering it worked perfectly before.
Oh, and I upgraded the Mac Pro's firmware yesterday. Could this have anything to do with things?
    Weird...

Forgot to add, we are running XP. We tried a different monitor and now at least we can get one monitor working via the display port. But when we try two monitors at the same time, the 2nd monitor on display port is not detected. How do we disable built in LCD on the X201 ? Lenovo support says its a BIOS setting ? That doesnt sound right  to me...
Are you trying to use a DVI Splitter? I do not think that a DVI Splitter would work with a Single Link Displayport TO DVI Adapter. I do not think a Dual Link Displayport To DVI Adapter would work with a DVI Splitter.
I think that you might need something link this.
    http://us.startech.com/product/SP123DP2DVI-Triple-Head-DisplayPort-to-DVI-Multi-Monitor-Adapter
Not sure, if the x201can handle 3 monitors in this fashion. StarTech.com says the GPU determines the support according to the youtube video.
It is pretty expensive, and it would be nice to know the limit.

  • Second DVI Port not working?

    Hi,
I just purchased a HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1224 (windows 7 home premium) and an having problems hooking up 2 monitors via the built-in DVI outputs.
I have a monitor plugged into each of the DVI ports.  The computer doesn't seem to detect any monitor plugged into the lower DVI port.  I've tried switching a number of times; if a monitor is plugged into the top port, it works fine; if it's plugged into the bottom port, the computer doesn't detect it.  I've tried going to the "screen resolution" menu to manually detect the second monitor, but hitting the "detect" button doesn't find the second monitor.
Is there some sort of trick to get dual-monitors working with this computer?
    Thanks

    Sharon43,
Please provide the brand and complete model numbers for the monitors you are trying to connect to your computer. Also indicate the exact methods you are using to connect the monitors.
As your HP Pavilion p6-2310 Desktop Computer has one DVI-D (digital only) output and one VGA (analog only) output, one monitor must support VGA input and the other monitor must support DVI-D input.
    (#1) - DVI-D (digital) output          (#2) - VGA (analog) output
    The computer and monitors will need to be connected as follows;
    Computer > DVI-D cable > Monitor #1
    Computer >  VGA cable  > Monitor #2
