DVI Resolution on MV220 22" LCD

I recently purchased a Megavision MV220 22" Widescreen LCD monitor, and find that I can get the full 1680x1050 resolution when using the DVI-VGA adapter, but can only get up to 1280x1024 when using a DVI-D Dual Link cable.
I'll be very disappointed if I can't get the full 1680x1050 resolution using DVI, as it's much brighter and clearer vs. the RGB input. My next thought is to try a DVI-I Dual Link cable, but I'd have to purchase one. I'm also going to try our mini with it.
Any thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
KohyutA

Realized that some resolutions aren't available in OS X, so I went and purchased SwitchResX and problem solved. A great little app, and I highly recommend it if you need specific resolutions that OS X is unaware your display can do... especially great for home theater/media center setups.

  • Mini DVI to VGA issues w/ LCD HDTV

I have looked all over and I can't find a solution.
I recently purchased an LCD HDTV, Insignia Brand which is a Best Buy Brand, and I bought a DVI cable to hook up to my Powerbook G4 using the Mini DVI to VGA cable. When I hook it up to my tv it works, but the screen on my Powerbook looks magnified as does the LCD TV. When I launch Safari or any other program it doesn't fit on my screen or the LCD TV and I have to resize it.
After I look at displays in system prefernces it says my max resolution is 1024 x 768.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jeremy

Just guessing - the TV's "VGA" input is limited to 1024x768, which is possible although some "VGA" inputs will work higher. Do the instructions mention a limitation like this?
I think if you turn off mirroring on the Powerbook, at least the Powerbook screen will have normal resolution, and the TV 1024x768. The TV apparently scales up image to fill the screen unless using HDMI, where is leaves the extra 342 pixels blank on the sides (1366-1024). Perhaps the TV has a mode for adjusting how the TV handles lesser resolutions (stretch, dot-by-dot, etc)

  • Outputting DVI to HDMI input in LCD TV versus using the DVI to RGB ?

I am thinking of buying a mac mini to connect to a Toshiba 20HL85 TV in the lounge primarily to act as a "media server" and accessing Front Row for music, photo's, DVD watching etc. The question is which connection to use to go from the mini to the TV for Video (audio is fine as it will route into my AV Receiver)? The TV has an HDMI input, component video, s-video and a VGA port. The user manual for the TV says:
Note: The HDMI jack is not intended for connection to and should not be used with a personal computer. For PC connection, use VGA cable and connect to the VGA port. The VGA port allows the following resolutions:
    Monitor Display modes:
    VGA 640x480 60Hz
    SVGA 800x600 56.3Hz
    SVGA 800x600 60.3Hz
    XGA 1024x768 60Hz
    WXGA 1280x720 60Hz
    WXGA 1280x768 60Hz
I wanted to know a few things as I have no experience with the MAC mini and HDMI:
    1. Will I not get a better/crisper/sharper picture if I connect through a digital port like HDMI versus going through the VGA port?
    2. I have checked a few LCD TV's user manuals and they all seem to say the same thing i.e. "Do not connect a PC to the HDMI port" - I fail to understand this when the Apple site specifically says under "accessories for the MAC mini" that "HDMI is electrically similar to DVI, but has a different physical connector that may include an audio signal. You’ll need a DVI to HDMI adapter, such as the Belkin PureAV HDMI to DVI cable to use these televisions".
    3. What am I missing? Should I just go ahead and buy the DVI to HDMI cable and MAC mini and plug it in i.e. has anyone done this and had it work? Is it better than VGA (I would hope so)?
Bottom line is does the MAC mini connect to any TV with an HDMI port or are there different types of HDMI ports and hence I need to search for the right TV first? If so, what must I look for? Thanks for any help I can get.
    Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

One word of advice. I just hooked up my mini to my 32" Lowe HD TV using a DVI to HDMI cable and it doesn't just work. The native resolution of the TV is not available for whatever reason so I have to bodge another resolution which looks terrible. When I plug my powerbook in via a DVI to VGA connector it just does work selecting the correct resolution automatically.
Either the problem lies with the mini or with connecting to the HDMI socket. As the HDMI is simply a dvi with audio I can't see why it would cause problems but who knows. Given all the other problems I am currently having with the mini I am pointing the finger in that direction currently.

  • External DVI resolutions (1366 x 768)

Iam thinking about using an HDTV LCD 32" TV as second monitor.
I can not find any informations what Resolutions the GraCa is available at the external DVI port. The LCD TVs usually have
    1366 x 768 Pixel
Is this resolution supported by the Hardware ?
Is there a list , which resolutions are supported by the Hardware ?
(PS I only need Text editing features, no High Resolutions for this, thats why I might not need expensive high resolution displays...)

    yes,
     the new bios (3.10). It supports a lot more resolutions now: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1280x1024, 1400x1050, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080.
I just seen that post, but I don't see the 1366 x 768 resolutions, is not supported?
do you have a suggestion to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance

  • MacBook Mini-DVI to VGA - Samsung 32" LCD - Mode Not Supported

I followed the instructions on Apple's site to use the MacBook with the lid closed and an external LCD. It worked perfectly the first time I tried it. (I believe in 1920 x 1024). It seemed a little hard to read so I changed the Display resolution, then encountered the "Mode Not Supported" on my LCD. I unhooked and used my MacBook to change the settings back, but the MacBook seems to revert to the "Mode Not Supported" resolution when I close the lid. Any suggestions? Can I reset the Display Preferences on my MacBook?

I think this procedure should work, but it requires an external USB keyboard.
    - Shut down the Mac.
    - Have all the following connected:
    - MacBook power supply
    - External display
    - USB keyboard and mouse
    - Open the lid on the MacBook and hit the power button.
    - Immediately close the lid on the MacBook and start holding down the Shift key on the USB keyboard.
    - Release the Shift key once you see the spinning gear on the gray screen on the external display.
The above procedure should cause the Mac to start in Safe mode and hopefully will finish booting into a useable screen. If that is the case, go into Displays preferences and select a known working resolution different from the one the Mac started up in under Safe mode. Now restart normally. Hopefully the newly selected resolution will persist through the normal restart and you will have a working external screen again.

  • Mac-mini not good dvi resolution

hi, i bought a mac-mini but i got a classic 1024x768, 60 Hz. resolution on monitor if i want to go on quality res i got black screen. i am using a sony lcd sdm-x52 17' I need help how to do a custom timing for my system and i have installed switchResx thank you help me!

The Sony SDM-X52 is a 15-inch LCD, not a 17-inch LCD. 1024 x 768 is the native resolution and the highest supported resolution. If you desire a "quality res" screen, like 1280 x 1024, you are going to have to buy a new monitor of at least 17-inch diagonal.

  • Thunderbolt to dvi resolution problem

I have a 30 inch dell monitor and when i connect the monitor to my macbookpro 17 inch late 2011 with 10.6.8 via mini display to dvi my resolution on the external monitor is 1280x800 maximum. The display can go to 2560. does anyone now how to fix this?

Use a Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter.

  • Resolutions problems with Philips LCD Monitor

    Hi all,
I have a new MacBook Pro with the Mini Display Port and today I have bought the DVI adapter for it. On my previous MacBook Pro I could happily use 1280 x 800 resolution on my external display using a single DVI cable straight to the MacBook Pro but i am only getting 1024 x 768 on my new laptop with the adapter (no widescreen resolutions).
    Can someone please help me?
    Many thanks and merry christmas.

What Philips monitor is this? What is its native resolution? Is 1024 x 768 the top choice you are seeing in Displays preferences? Is the Philips properly identified or is it being identified generically like "RGB Display" or something like that?
It's possibly some kind of failure on the part of OS X to read the monitor's driver data (EDID) but it's hard to say why that might be happening. It could be you got a defective adapter.

  • Can't set resolution to match external LCD display.

    Hi all.
I'm having trouble getting the screen to display on my 42" LCD without cutting off the right/left edges.
I've found two sets ways to try and fix this in the Nvidia control panel:
    1-setting the ### x ### resolution doesn't help.
2-when setting up the external monitor all the resolution settings are grayed out.
Also, changing my format settings on the tv itself makes no difference.
I'm using an 9600M GT and got the same result before and after updating the drivers.
    Anybody have any ideas?

What I would try is the binary nvidia drivers and use the nvidia-settings tool, it seems to work better for setting screen resolutions on Nvidia cards, in my experience. It lets me set resolutions that xrandr won't let me, like 1280x720 on my 4:3 monitor if I feel like it (I had good reasons to do it lol, and no, I didn't stretch it out, I had black bars on it). I have it set to output 1360x768 to my LCD TV and I set it through nvidia-settings (though that was the default on it, so maybe a slightly different situation, but similar).
After xrandr change KDE says that it is 1360x768, but on monitor's OSD I see 1280x768…
Well, one of those is right, one is wrong, find out which is which Sometimes on my TV, if I'm in something with a lot of black space (full screen video or something), and I switch inputs, my TV will sometimes say either 1280x768 or even 1024x768, even though it's still in 1360x768). Maybe try taking a screenshot or something, and then an image viewer will tell you the real resolution of your screen.

  • Cant Get Optimal Resolution with Lenovo L192 LCD Monitor after GeForce video driver upgrade

    Hello,
I just upgraded my GeForce video drivers for the integrated GeForce 6100 video chipset in my Lenovo 3000 series desktop.  My monitor is a Lenovo L192 LCD.  It has been working fine but I decided to upgrade the video drivers.  After installation and reboot, I can no longer get the optimal resolution of 1440 x 900 for this monitor.  The highest resolution offered is 1360 x 768.  I had this same problem the last time I upgraded the video drivers but somehow I manged or someone told me how to get the higher resolution.  I reverted back to the old driver that was working fine and now I can't get the higher resolution with that driver either.  I think I have the latest driver provided by Lenovo for the monitor.
I am running Windows XP SP3.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you fix it or does anyone else have a solution?

  • MBP Mini DVI Resolution?

When I connect my late 2008 MBP to my new 24" Acer Monitor via the Mini DVI port I cant get full resolution on the monitor. The screen is only about 3/4 full and appears to be a LOWER resolution than the screen on the laptop. The monitor is connected Mini DVI to DVI via a Dual-Link cable. I went into System Preferences, Displays, it shows the laptop resolution as 1440x900 and the Monitor resolution as 1920x1080. My MBP's 9600GT is capable of 2560x1600 resolution so that shouldn't be the problem. Maybe it's the Monitor driver but I couldn't find an OSX driver for it.
Is there something I'm missing? Thanks

    A Late 2008 MBP doesn't have a mini-DVI port — it has a mini-Displayport for video out.
That Acer is a dirt-cheap monitor, and it may not be very good at all. Acer doesn't support Macs, so they won't be of any use to you in solving your problem.
You don't need a dual-link DVI adapter to support the monitor's 1920 x 1080 maximum resolution, and the fact that you're using one is probably complicating the issue for you. I recommend getting a mini-Displayport-to-VGA adapter and using that instead.
