DVI to Analog Component RGB?

I'm trying to connect up my mac book pro dvi out to an older
standard definition television that has component RGB inputs.
I already had the DVI to SVGA adapter that came with the mac book pro. I then purchased an SVGA to red, green and blue RCA connector cable, which I hooked up between the TV and the DVI to SVGA adapter.
I'm not getting a signal on the tv's component input, just some sort of noise.
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong and what I might need...hopefully short of a $300 convertor box of some sort?
Thanks.

hi, new to the board, but i've been trying to do basically the same thing for quite a while. in my case, i want to connect the dvi-i & 3.5mm stereo outputs on a Mini to an A/V receiver.
i've tried using the supplied dvi-vga adapter and connecting w/ a vga-component adapter cable. i got no video signal. dvi-hdmi works for video, but then i have nowhere to plug in the audio signal.
it's been suggested that instead of a simple adapter, some sort of box is needed to convert the computer's RGB signal into YPbPr. any brand or model suggestions in particular? i don't know where to start looking for such a thing. thanks.

  • Connect ATV to an 16:9 analog TV with Component/RGB-Scart adapter

    Hi all.
I will use an ATV on a older 16:9 analog TV. My TV has a Scart connector with RGB input. I will connect the ATV over a component cable with a component/RGB-Scart adapter.
Is this possible or need i a new digital TV with dvi or component connections?
    Thanks, Ralph

    Component/Scart adaptor?
Component is Y,Pb,Pr and scart is RGB, I'm afraid they are two different things and you can't just simply connect the two together. There are convertors that will do what you want but a simple adaptor won't.

  • Macbook Pro 4,1 (early 2008) is the DVI port analog or digital?

I have been tasked with a slide show presentation on a family member's HD TV using my MacBook Pro 4,1. The TV is a slightly older big screen TV without HDMI inputs. I would lke to use the component (YPbPr) inputs on the TV rather than VGA. VGA degrades the image appearance too much.
I purchased a "ViewHD" HDMI input (Digital) to YPbPr (analog component) Output Switch Converter with the thought of using my 2nd Gen Apple TV (ATV) to connect the ATV via HDMI into the Converter and output the component YPbPr to the TV set. I am looking for a simple, elegant solution as I know this question will rear it's ugly head again.
First, I could find no resources that discusses the output of the DVI port on the MBP. Is it DVI-D, DVI-A, or DVI-I?
Is there an adaptor out there that I can use to change the DVI out on the MBP (if it is digital) to HDMI so I don't have to use the Apple TV?
Any help or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

The DVI connector on a MacBook Pro supports both Analog and Digital output.

  • FX5200 Problem DVI and Analog

Just got a Medion PC with a MSI FX5200 card.
When using a Digital Flat Panel the image judders occasionally, but enough to be annoying. (both DVI and Analog)
When using an ATI Radeon Card I have no problems at all.
Is it the card or is it just the FX5200 being no use with Flat Panels?
(Using latest nvidia drivers and running the screen at 60hz.)
    Any help appreciated.

I have just purchased a samsung 17" TFT with DVI. I am having terrible trouble even getting my FX5200 to work it. On analouge it's fine, on Digital it won't even recieve the signal. I have all the latest drivers for the card and monitor and a brand new DVI cable. Tried it on a friends with an ATI card and it worked just fine. Any Ideas anyone??????

  • NTSC monitor component/RGB to Imac via min-displayport

I'm trying to hook up an NTSC monitor which only has RGB and component (Y, R-Y, B-Y) ports to my 2009 iMac, which thus must use a min-display port to do so.
Does anyone know of the best way of connecting this NTSC monitor to my iMac? I had thought about...mini displayport/DVI-->DVI to component.
Although mini displayport/VGA-->VGA to component might work too.
One concern I had was that I heard the mini displayports were DVI-D opposed to DVI-I, which may or not mean a component adapter would work.
    help lol.
    thanks

There was a long thread on the forum with good info regarding conversion of Mini DisplayPort to composite/S-Video.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9692969
I don't think component will work for the same reasons, unless you use something like the rather complex method explained in the post by Lougle in the above thread (the one with pictures). Maybe it is different...
I thought of something the other day though. OWC has a recent USB video adapter product.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/VIDU2DVIA/
I wonder if you could put a DVI-to-component adapter (or a DVI-to-composite adapter) at the end of this USB-to-DVI adapter, and get it to work. I don't think the product description has the answer, and I was going to send an email to OWC's sales/tech support to ask. I'm only curious, since I don't need such an output myself. If you decide to ask them, please post back with their response.

  • MBP video out to TV using DVI - both analog and digital?

I have a Macbook Pro 10.6.4 2008 Model with details are below on graphics card and display options. I am trying two hookups to televisions which may or may not be possible. Can anyone tell me if my DVI output on the macbook pro is capable of delivering an analog signal to my old sony tube tv with component inputs? Second part of my question is do I have the right dvi cable. I purchased a cable with 24 + 5 pin. This cable does not produce a picture on my analog or digital television. Just snow on the analog and no input on the digital. The cable that came with my macbook pro is a DVI to VGA converter and seems to be an 18 + 5 pin plug....with a few pins missing in the middle. Should I buy another cable with the 18 + 5 pin DVI to component or buy a cable to connect the supplied DVI to VGA converter - VGA to component. Please help I'm confused on many fronts.
    Thanks

I made an account and am replying to this because i have the exact same computer as you and i was also at best buy at around 3pm wondering the exact same things you were! The DVI port on our MacBooks are different than the standard DVI ports. Freaking weiiiiiiiiiiiiiird! Get out of my head!!!!
I ended up buying a VGA cable and using the converter that came with my MBP because the DVI to VGA cables at Best Buy had a different VGA than what the MBP has.
Our goals were slightly different though, I wanted a cable so i can connect the MBP to my Toshiba 42inch HDTV. VGA works but doesnt support 1080p, only 1024x768, which is not a fullscreen resolution. So i will be returning the VGA cable tomorrow and looking for a VGA to HDMI cable, if that exist.
So, to answer your question, YES, buy a cable that has the same ports as our adapter, or just use the adapter that came with the Macbook.

  • DVI out to component in (DVCPro HD)

Repost... Sorry, accidently posted in FCE, would like to ask again here.
Other than buying the Matrox MXO, I'm stumped.
I need to capture a clients PowerPoint into a FCP HD timeline so that they can see all their transitions, then I'll use Compressor to create an HD file which will play on their digital signage box. (plasma HD screen)
I already have a successful workflow with evey aspect EXCEPT getting PP in a HD sequence. PowerPoint is on a MacBook Pro (DVI out) to a quad G5 with a BlackMagic HD extreme card that accepts component in. I've tried a scan converter that has component out, and a simple DVI to component cable. BlackMagic card sees nothing in HD.
Matrox MXO says it'll do DVI to component (Y, Pb, Pr) all day long for a grand.
I would really like to explore my options at NAB this year, but the client won't wait that long.
And yes, the signage box will play PowerPoint presentations (.ppt files) that look great right now. However, when playing a PP presentation you can not overlay an instant messanging system crawl which is a must for them. This is why the PP must play as an MPEG2 HD file.
    Any help is most welcome!
    --Bob

Understanding the client wants their own transitions, so there would be a bunch more work. But if you do go this way I would suggest putting a "proxy" clip of the entire show (point a camera at the original PowerPoint playback) on V1, then cover that with your clips and transitions on V2. Should make the timing a lot easier.
But it does seem ridiculous that you should have to do that at all. Maybe a post house can help with a quick translation.

  • NX6600 GT issues with DVI LCD and component HDTV dualview

    Hello -
I am having some issues with my video card now that I am hooking my monitor up with a DVI cable. The VGA cable worked perfectly with the HDTV but I bought a KVM switch that is DVI only and have been told that DVI is much beter. So, the problem is that the card now identifies my LCD as monitor number 2 and my HDTV as number 1. I can change which is my primary monitor and it seems as though nothing happens. Since I use dualview th8is is a major problem because my start menu is still on the HDTV which is not on all the time. I don't know what the issue is because as soon as I hook it up with VGA there are no problems. It's annoying because I know how quirky KVM switches can be and this one is working perfectly except for this problem.
    Details:
HDTV is hooked up with component out
    LCD is through DVI
    NX6600GT driver version 7.1.2.2
    Linkskey LDV-212ASK KVM switch
    Thanks for any help!

I was hoping not to do this but I understand the simplicity of your suggestion.
It just makes me regret spending the extra amount on the DVI KVM switch.

  • UVW-1800 analog component video output low into Decklink Extreme

I have come to realize that my UVW-1800 is feeding into my Decklink Extreme card at 75% of the level it should (based on NTSC bars). I can raise the input level of the Decklink. But I wonder if the ultimate problem is increased noise using this fix. I am about to test the composite output level. I do not have a regular WFM moni so I can't see the level until after I get it in.
    Thanks, Chris.

    Chris-
You might also look on eBay for a TBC remote. Even using the scopes in the Final Cut capture window will be OK. Analog video is subject to huge variations in levels and chroma. Getting them close to proper at the machine will give you a much more pleasing result than adjusting them after the fact in the digital domain.
The usual order of adjustment for analog machines is to first set the black level, then the white. If you adjust the white much it will affect the blacks, so go back and reset those. Which will affect the whites. so go back to THOSE. Usually about 3 tweaks on each will get both to the proper levels. Then set the chroma amount, and hue (if you are using the composite signal).
Finally on the %75 percent issue. It turns out that in analog video if you add the R,G,and B signals you only get 75%. So if you have full field bars that may be correct. You need SMPTE bars, which have a 100% white box at the bottom of the frame, to correctly set your video level.

  • Importing Analog Component Video

I'm using a Sony J-30 deck to import Beta SP and want to import at a higher quality than the Firewire out in the back. I was wondering if I could use the Component Video out instead? If so, what type of hardware do I need to convert to a digital signal? My hope is to be able to import as DVC50.

Thanks, I installed a Blackmagic HD extreme 2 and am having capture problems. I can control the deck from fcp, but no audio or video comes through. The only way I can import is by using capture now and the clip Import is all black with no audio. Have tried multiple import settings, but still no luck. Please shine some light on me.

  • Satellite A100-192: Is there any way to add DVI port

    hello
is there any way to add dvi port to this laptop ?
display card is ati mobility radeon x1600 so the chipset
supports dvi and analog component output
is there any way to add dvi port
or component signal output over d-sub port ?
    tia

As Dennis already said, you cannot upgrade the motherboard t get the DVI port but you could buy an 3rd party PCMCIA card which supports such port!!!
Google a little bit and you should find some nice offers.
But such cards are not cheap! So finally its your choice ;)

  • Can not get MacBook Pro to display on Sony HDTV LCD

So I bought a DVI to RGB (Y/Pb/Pr) cable. I have it hooked up and use Detects Displays. It detects a VGA connection but it will not show a picture on the TV. I have verified I am on the right input on the display and checked all just in case. I can't use DVI to HDMI because the TV only has one HDMI and it is being used by my cable signal. There is another input that is labeled RGB in the Sony manual but I can not find a DVI to RGB that looks like the plug configuration on the back of the TV. I would like to stay away from S-video and everything else because they do not support HD. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried a DVI-VGA (D-SUB) cable? It does actually support any resolution supported by both the display and the computer (including HD). This will deliver the same signal as your analog component RGB cable. I use this with my SONY HDTV every day, works very well.

  • Can't connect macbook pro to my tv.

I have problems connecting my macbook pro to my tv. the tv is already quite old, so it has only two scart ports and a rca(
RCA Plugs for composite video (yellow) and stereo audio (white and red)), s-video port.
the cables i bought are as following:
    1. mini display port --> dvi-d
    2. dvi-d --> dvi-i
    3. dvi-i --> RCA component RGB (red, green, blue)
this  "RCA component RGB (red, green, blue)" cable doesn't work with my tv which only has the RCA(yello, red, white).
So i'm thinking about buying an adapter for "rgb(red, green, blue) --> scart".
does any of you know if this could work. i thought as all the cables fit together it should work, but i really do not know so much about video connections. so maybe my cables do not work together as i think they should
    can anyone help me?

  • DVI to Component Video Output YpBr- Mac Pro NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Card

    Hello-
I am trying to use my Mac Pro as a media machine, but to do this I need to convert the DVI signal to Component video. The video switch I am using is Component only, so that is the reason why I cannot go HDMI.
What is the best solution? Do they make an adapter that will convert? Is there a graphics card issue?
On a sidenote, will the computer be able to operate with two video cards? I was thinking of having one HDMI output to my main television monitor, and having component video going to my switch for the other monitors located around the house.

What about upgrading to this video card?

It will give more graphics performance, but you don't need it for just displaying video. If you do want extra performance, get the ATI Radeon HD 4870
