DVM setup in Solution Manager.

Hello,
I want to know, using SAP DVM below can be achieved or not. It would be great if anyone can share documentation those who had implemented this already.
Data Volume Management
o     Show the database growth status for all the systems, if possible in a dashboard
o     Projection u2013 what is the available storage and how much to increase?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
If you want to have a clear understanding of Data Volume Mnagement (DVM) I would recomend reading the white paper on the subject.
https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000336572007E
However if you don't want to give it a read, I have cut the Management Summary, which should give you a good overview from a non-technical point of view.
1 Management Summary
Managing complexity, risk, costs as well as skills and resources is at the heart of implement-ing mission critical support for SAP-centric solutions. The complexity rises even further with the trend of outtasking and outsourcing of process components. To help customers manage their SAP-centric solutions, SAP provides a comprehensive set of standards for solution op-erations.
Out of this set of standards, the data volume management standard. Due to the tendency to run highly interconnected systems (internal and external) and the business needs to have data instantly accessible, data volumes are growing and growing. The data volume manage-ment standard defines how to manage data growth by avoiding data creation, archiving data, and deleting data. The standard helps customers to increase the availability of their solution because administration tasks like software upgrade, database reorganization, data backups or recovery can be done in less time. In addition, the customer can reduce time needed for managing disk space and benefit from more efficient use of resources such as hard drives, memory, and CPU.
This paper provides details regarding the data volume management standard. At first, it ex-plains the basic concept of the standard. It explains the basic concept of the standard and describes the different steps within the process flow. Then it provides details regarding im-plementation and operation methodologies for data volume management and lists the tools and roles involved in the process. Finally, the paper discusses how key performance indica-tors can be used to measure the success of data volume management and to control corre-sponding service level agreements.

SAP Standard Data Volume Management
Version: 1.0
So in essence it is a standard and methodologies to support that standard.
It is implemented as a Service that can be delivered by SAP or by the Customer.
I hope this link and information help crystalize your understanding.

    Hi,
    Q. Is it possible to setup the solution manager -above mentioned tasks without Ides system ?
    A. Yes.
    Check with links for
    1.Early watch alert
This process helps you to identify potential problems early, avoid bottlenecks, and monitor the performance of your ABAP and JAVA systems and your most important business processes, regularly, automatically and effectively. The data collection infrastructure comprises the ABAP Service Data Control Center and the JAVA function module Data Provider. The SAP EarlyWatch Alert in the SAP Solution Manager is a service provided by SAP.
To be able to use it, you have:
maintained the non-ABAP systems correctly in the system landscape maintenance (transaction SMSY)
RFC u2013 Connections between: and an RFC u2013 Connections established.
your satellite systems and the SAP Solution Manager system
SAP Solution Manager and the SAP Service Marketplace
Solution Manager system and Solution Manager Diagnostics
Cf: Solution Manager IMG (transaction SPRO).
checked the availability of the tools required for the SAP Service sessions (add-on ST-A/PI), with the report RTCCTOOL.
activated Alert Monitoring and set-up the Automatic Session Manager (ASM) in the Service Data Control Center (SDCCN) of your satellite systems, for all SAP satellite systems and the central SAP Solution Manager of your solution
set-up your systems in a solution landscape in the SAP Solution Manager
    configured Solution Manager Diagnostics
    2.System Monitoring
The system monitoring in the SAP Solution Manager is, as described above, like a system-wide central CCMS. It can also contain the central CCMS (CEN) of satellite systems. These CENs can then monitor other components.
The graphical display in the SAP Solution Manager gives you access to the alerts of all systems in a solution. You can go to the local or central CCMS of the satellite systems.
The system proposes the most important alerts in the CCMS monitor collection, according to SAP experience, and their alert thresholds, for each system in the solution, in the system monitoring Session. You can activate or deactivate these alerts. The connection between the local CCMS and the SAP Solution Manager allows you to maintain the alert thresholds directly in the SAP Solution Manager, overwriting the values in the local CCMS.
    3.Central System Administration
You activate the customizing for business processes in your solution, in the Business Process MONITORING session in the SAP Solution Manager. A monitoring tree element (MTE), or a monitor collection, u201EBPMu201C of several monitoring objects, is created in the local or central (CEN) CCMS of the satellite system.
The data is collected for the monitoring types of the business process monitoring in contrast to system monitoring, as follows:
    ● The system collects performance (dialog transactions), posting cancellations (V1 and V2) and u201EOther CCMSu201C and interface data, in the local CCMS of the satellite systems.
    ● The system collects background processing, application list, application monitors, delivery lists, and document size data, in the central SAP Solution Manager CCMS.
The SAP Solution Manager system copies the data from the local CCMS.
The graphical display in the SAP Solution Manager simplifies access to the alerts for the business processes, business process steps or the interfaces between the systems in a solution. You can go to the local CCMS of the satellite systems.
The connection between the local CCMS and the SAP Solution Manager allows you to maintain the alert thresholds directly in the SAP Solution Manager. These overwrite the values in the local CCMS.
    4.Business Process Monitoring
The system and business process monitoring (including interface monitoring) in the SAP Solution Manager, both use the Computing Center Management System (CCMS) (transaction RZ20) architecture. This means that system alerts which occur in the local CCMS, are passed to the SAP Solution Manager via RFC connections between the SAP Solution Manager and the satellites. The system shows these alerts in a graphic or in Sessions. You can also handle the alerts centrally, without having to go to the local CCMS of the satellite systems.
You can see the alerts from several systems in a solution landscape in the SAP Solution Manager, in a graphical overview, in contrast to the local CCMS of the SAP Solution Manager satellite systems. This is the view of a central CCMS (CEN). You can also monitor non-SAP systems in a central CCMS (CEN) of a satellite system

Hi guys! Can someone help me on how to setup the Change Request Management in Solution Manager 4.0? I have already have checked the SAP Marketplace for any documentation about this topic but found none. I am configuring the two test servers (1 prod and 1 dev) in tcode SMSY. I have also configured the system role for each server. When I try executing /TMWFLOW/CMSCONF in SE38, no clients appear in the CRITICAL OBJECTS pane. Did I miss a required step in the implementation? I hope you guys can help me. Thanks in advance...

  • Setup and Configuration for a Solution Manager instance

I am setting up a  Solution Manager instance for a client in Australia.
Currently there is no reference client that I am aware of in Australia for Solution Manager.  So this is extremely important to get it right.  Also I am an independent contractor, so I am unable to call on any in-house experts from a consulting firm for help.
So I am looking for answers from some experts who have done this before.
Had some training on Solution Manager back in 2002.
Our client wants to setup the solution manager instance to monitor 9 SAP instances
    - 3 R/3, DEV, Q/A, PROD
    - 3 BI, DEV, Q/A, PROD
    - 3 Enterprise Portal, DEV, Q/A, PROD
Solution Manager is running in a separate instance for all those listed above.
In addition to the above the client would also like to user the service desk function of Solution Manager for in-house support of SAP, and push to service desk request onto their support partner and/or SAP directly.
    Question:
    1) Is it better to use the Solution Manager client 001 or create a separate client for the customer?
    2) How would you as the expert configure the service desk component to push service desk requests to the support partner (a 3rd party Service Desk Tool or another Solution Manager instance), and allow the customer to choose to send the request direct to SAP?
    3) The client would also like to use the Solution Manager Instance as the CUA environment, is this advisable?
    Kind Regards
    David Cooper

    Hello David,
    Please find th answers below:
    1. You should use  a separate client for solution manager rather than using a standard one
    2. You should configure your solution manager as the service desk for all type of support requests.Solution manager can send your requests to SAP and vice-vera.Why do you a third part tool and waste money of the client.Solution manager can do all for you very effectively
3.sure you should configure solution manager as CUA environment, there are no issues with that
Let me know of any questions

  • Solution Manager System Monitoring of a CE 7.10

    Hi
I am trying to setup a Solution Manager Monitoring Solution for a CE 7.10 Enviroment.
I have already setup CEN in SOLMAN.
I have registered CE Systems with a sapccmsr j2ee agent.
I have setup the JCO RFC Connection in CE.
I have created the TCP/IP Connection to the JCO Connection in Solman.
I have set the TCP/IP Connection in RZ21 as the J2EE Customizing Destination.
The solution involves only 1 Logical Component with 3 CE Systems.
When I go to the solution manager setup and try to configure the MTE Nodes for my solution I cannot get the MTE context while clicking in Activate Monitoring for other Software Components
I choose Java Application Server, choose my server, choose CEn but when i have to choose the context of the MTE i get an empty list.
IF i go Activate Monitoring for Other Servers and choose the server I get the contexts of the remote server, but I can only choose one.
So how can I see the context of the CE servers in the Software component part?
    Ty.

    Hi,
Have you defined and added corresponding logical systems for the respective satellite systems?
Here is the sequence of steps you've to do:
    in SMSY:
    1) Define server, DB, Systems
    2) Generate READ, TMW, TRUSTED RFCs to the satellite systems
    3) define logical systems and assign the satellite system to it
    in Solution_Manager:
    1) define new solution
    2) add the logical system into the solution
If these steps are successful, you should be able to see the satellite system in SYSTEM MONITORING in Solution_Manager.
Have you already done these steps?
    After performing these steps:
    Solution_Manager>choose relevant solution>operations setup>Solution Monitoring>System monitoring>Activate monitoring> choose the system and activate monitoring.
    Your system will then appear.
    Does this help any way?

  • Solution manager maintenance optimizer

    Hi all,
I have what I think is an issue, and hoping someone could possibly point me in the direction to correct. I have setup our solution manager system and trying to get the maintenance optimizer option working fully. I have a java system that I pull the information from SLD perfectly fine, and it lists all installed software components via SMSY>SYSTEMS perfectly. I have assigned logical components etc. I can create a new maintenance optimizer transaction, select the proper system with assigned components, but when it lists the files to be downloaded automatically I expect to see alot more files available for download than it lists for me. I assume I am missing something, but not sure where to look.
Would anyone be able to possibly point me in the right direction on what I might be missing?
    Regards,
    Chris

  • EP/J2EE Process Monitoring in Solution Manager

    Hello
I am currently in the process of connecting our EP system to solution manager.   My question relates to monitor sets in RZ20.  I have added our EP system to a custom monitor set.  By default the system is configured to monitor the 3 main processes (Dispatcher, Server, SDM).   Is it possible to change the Threshold values for one process, but leave the others?
When I change the memory threshold values for the server, it also changes the dispatcher.
    Thanks

  • EP Monitoring in Solution Manager

    Dear Experts,
I would like to create a monitoring system using our solution manager. Therefore i would like to know the ways of doing it. I also would like to know what can be monitored in Solution manager for EP(enterprise portal). If possible i would like to monitor from Server to Application level, meaning to say i would like to know all the components that can be monitored using SolMan such as CPU utilization , disk space availability and from application point of view, i would like to view /receive alert that can show number user locked in EP an so on.
Our EP is running on version 7.0 and on SP15.
    Regards

  • Configuration guide on Solution Manager Service Desk Scenario

    Hi all,
I have just setup a Solution Manager 3.2 system and have followed the configuration guide, SP9.pdf which directs me to use SPRO to configure it. However, after going thru the SPRO, it doesn't gives me specific steps to setup the Service Desk scenarios. I could not find any specifc steps on creating a service Desk, business partners or configuration on the satelite system. Please kindly provide me with the relevant guide. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Guan,
I don't know if my message is being sent too late for you, but only now I read your question..
You have to go through Customer Relationship Management configuration in order to customize Service Desk and Change Request Management the way you need. Before, I believe you must have in your hands the specification of your Organizational Structure, who will be each business partner in your organization, with the correct responsibilities, then you draw the workflow you want to implement, which is the complete landscape, have your RFC connection to SAP working in order to send support messages to them (this should be ok if you already have SolMan working, it needs the RFC connection in order to update the services..). Once you define your processes, based on the ITIL, then you can start configuring your Service Desk. Inside the IMG of the SolMan->Service Desk you have the CRM steps you need (if you have SP09 or up), and the documentation inside the IMG are really useful. If you are not used to CRM, I suggest you take a look at the CRM Documentation, because most of the things are better explained there. Actions, Conditions for Actions, Business partners, Installed Base with default business partners, Solution Database..
You may be a little bit confused reading the lots of docs that SAP delivers about SolMan Service Desk regarding using SLF1 or SLFN transaction Type. SLF1 was the old one, used by SolMan 3.1, and it has some differences from SLFN. In fact, SLF1 is more complex. It has items, SLFN does not. It uses a Service Confirmation, SLFN does not.. and so on..
If you need more information, please let me know. I have been working with Service Desk and Change Request Management for one year, in Scandinavia, maybe we can exchange tips.

  • Solution Manager information for Java stack systems

    Hi,
Could someone please help with the setup of Solution Manager, and how to connect to the backend of a Java stack system. For our ERP systems this is working via RFC, but I was hoping to get more information on the procedure for java. I can specify manually via SMSY, but I am sure there must be a setup that can pull the information for the system itself. Could anyone shed some light on this if possible please.
    Regards,
    Chris

    Dear Chris,
ABAP Stacks use RFC as you know for inter system communications.
Java stack systems use Solution Manager Diagnostics.
You will need to run Solman_Setup > Managed System Configuration
First you should visit the link http://service.sap.com/diagnostics
There you will see a link to the media library, and there you will find complete documentation.
Hope you find this information Helpful.
    Regards,
    Paul

  • 2 Identification Numbers to 1 Business Partner in Solution Manager

    Hi,
Can anyone help me on this:
I have setup a solution manager with one ECC satellite system.
The user created in ECCstellite system, let call it USER_A, is assigned to business partner 123 in Solman.
When USER_A create the service desk from ECC, it will be captured into Solman under business partner 123.
What should I do to let USER_A to access all his issues captured in solmn through the web?
    Please advice.
What I have tried to do is to create a user ID "USER_A" and assign it to the same business partner 123.
This is done by inserting the USER_A with different ID number in 123 business partner.
    Is this the right approach?
I have also try to create another user ID, USER_B, and tie to business partner 123.
In this case, it is not working as per the approach mentioned above.
    Please advice.
    Regards,
    Cheah

    Hi
As per your writings i could say you are trying to access the service desk message via web.
you have to activate webdynpro applications in SICF, please check the blog
[Re: URL link to open Service Desk message|Re: URL link to open Service Desk message]
this helps you to access the servicedesk by workcenters.
The following work center roles will be required to access the same.
    SAP_SMWORK_BASIC
    SAP_SMWORK_INCIDENT_MAN
and check the below sap notes
1072324 HTTP Connect and SAP Solution Manager
1160651 Work Centers: How to Customize (Solution Manager)
1155893 Work Centers: Incident Management HTTP instead of HTTPS
