"Dvorak - Qwerty ⌘" zoom in hotkey UI bug

Product: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
OS: OS X (10.10.1)
I believe i have found a serious UI bug in the "Dvorak - Qwerty ⌘" keyboard layout. I have reported this bug. I even asked my friend who works at apple (and independently confirmed that it is a serious UI bug) to help see that it gets attention. However, some time has past and i've not seen or heard anything since, he then recommended that i post here.
In many programs within OS X (including safari, preview, and others), The zoom in hotkeys are broken for this keyboard layout.
It's a bit difficult to describe this since the keyboard layout is meant to change while "⌘" is pressed, so i will refer to all keys as they appear visually in the standard qwerty keyboard. I.e. the "=/+" key is the key left of the delete key, while in dvorak, it has the value of "]/}", i will still refer to it as: "=/+" key.
THE BUG:
to replicate:
1: Set keyboard layout to: "Dvorak - Qwerty ⌘" (changed from U.S., not as the default)
2: Open Safari or Preview
3: Press "⌘" key + "=/+" key (to zoom in)
Result: Nothing happens
Now, there is a work around. If you press: "⌘" key + "]/}" key, then it does zoom in, but this is wrong because the "⌘" key should switch the "+/=" value back to the "+/=" key, but it does not.

Have you looked at the keyboard shortcut settings?
I have no idea if it will help because I frankly do not understand the Dvorak layout, however System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts may allow you to specify shortcuts for the effected apps? Use the full title as shown in the menu to override the default setting.

  • Zoom-In hotkey has stopped working

I was working in Illustrator last night when the zoom-in hotkey (cmd +) stopped working for me. All other hotkeys in my usual workflow have been working, including the zoom-out (cmd -) hotkey, strangely enough.
    So far I have tried:
    -Restarting Illustrator
    -Deleting Illustrator Prefs file
    -Killing all background applications
Nothing has worked. I'm still without a zoom in hotkey. I've tested the cmd key and the + key in and out of Illustrator, and both work fine, just not in conjunction. I've also checked in Photoshop and the zoom in hotkey works find there.
    I'm using:
    Illustrator CS4 (trial)
    OSX 10.4.11
    Photoshop CS2
if somebody has a clue, i'd be more than happy to listen. this is killing my workflow. Not being able to zoom in through keys is like working with one hand tied behind my back.

Try removing the entire Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder, not just the Adobe Illustrator Prefs file inside.

  • In Google Doc, Paste doesn't work with Dvorak -qwerty command.

Command V does a Command K instead. Everything else seems to work fine. So you can't paste on the Google Doc with a shortkey when you are on the DQ mode (Dvorak, qwerty command keys)

Sounds like a question for the Google Docs support people.

  • Zoom while video recording (bug) - Video flickers back and forth on playback

    Using iphone 5s iOS 7.0.2
If i zoom slowly during video recording, when playback the video, during the period i zoomed in or out, it just flickers back and forth (in and out). which ruins all the video.

I just tried it on my iPhone.  Same specs.  No issues.  I'm assuming you're doing playback on your phone?

  • Illustrator hotkey problem

    hi folks
so I've had this issue on multiple machines running windows 7 (at work and at home)
the Illustrator hotkeys I've come to rely on "V" or "P" or "A" don't seem to be working properly in CS5 (and CS6?....)
if I hit the "V" key for instance, instead of going to the direct selection tool, I might get a little "ding" noise rejecting me (windows:), or the view dropdown menu might open up....
what's up?  is this a software conflict?  hardware? (I have a wacom at home, but not at work...)
    cheers
    LML

it only happens after you use the Alt key, as when zooming, right? a bug introduced in CS5 is the culprit, see this thread

  • U.S. English flag symbol fails to load in the menu bar

Upon awaking or starting the iMac, the U.S. English language symbol fails to load on the right side of the menu bar as it should. This means that I cannot select other keyboard languages under that symbol's drop down menu. In fact the spinning color wheel appears on far right side of the menu bar where the day and date are also located. If I move the pointer to the left past this area, the spinning color wheel changes to its normal pointer arrow. I see this oddity several times a week. Does anyone have an idea why this occurs?

Check your flag symbol settings. According to the os Help I found the following:
+"Switching your keyboard to Dvorak layout+
+If you have difficulty using your computer’s standard QWERTY keyboard, you can switch the keyboard to Dvorak layout, which optimizes key layout for typing comfort and ease of use.+
+To use the Dvorak keyboard layout:+
+Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Language & Text, and then click Input Sources.+
    +Open Language & Text preferences+
+Scroll down the alphabetical list on the left to select one of the Dvorak options.+
+If you select the Dvorak - Qwerty ⌘ option, the keyboard changes to QWERTY when you hold down the Command key (⌘).+
+Select the “Show Input menu in menu bar” checkbox, which appears below the list.+
+Choose Input menu > [Dvorak option] to switch to the Dvorak layout.+
+The Input menu appears in the upper-right corner of the menu bar at the top of your computer screen. Its icon is usually the flag of the country that corresponds to the input source you have chosen in Language & Text preferences. For example, if you chose U.S., the American flag is the icon for the Input menu. When you switch to a Dvorak keyboard, the icon changes accordingly."+

  • "Invalid serial number" when installing Toshiba utilities on NB200-13J

This model (13J) is the government-sponsored student edition used by thousands of Greek pupils and is not listed in the Support downloads.
I made a new partition and installed XP SP3 Pro, in addition to the standard XP Home. I downloaded all the drivers for the model number printed on the sticker (PLL25E-00401WMG, which I assume corresponds to NB200-122 in the Driver Downloads).
Most of the important Toshiba utilities (Hardware Setup, Hotkey, Value Added Logical Device) terminate with the error "Wrong serial number".
Given that the Toshiba utilities work fine in the standard (old) installation,
    1. Is there a way to bypass the serial number checking for the installation of Toshiba utilities?
    2. Are there specific Toshiba downloads for NB200-13J ?

I apologise for the long post, but I am afraid that sooner or later other users of NB200 will (stumble on the same issues.)
Dear Timox, thank you for this interesting scenario, and let me offer my first thoughts. I have already seen this theme of installation sequencing in the forums, and my sequence was about the same - first non-Toshiba stuff and then Toshiba stuff.
You and other forum members say that the order is "very important" and of course I'd like to know *why* the order is important. A possible answer would be that each utility expects something else already having been installed. If this was the case, i.e. that users should follow a linear sequence of installation, wouldn't it be very easy for the developers to embed error messages in each utility like "please install utility X first and retry installation"?. In the same line of thought, developers could have bundled everything in one big executable and offer it for use in clean installation scenarios. If the "why" of the specific sequence is not stated explicitly, the "importance" of installation sequence still remains in the realm of magic.
Having said all that, I deleted the windows installation and started anew.
Non-Toshiba stuff in the beginning of your list were ok (I do them the same way for some 15 years now).
ConfigFree was the first in your list to misbehave, issuing the infamous in these forums message "This program only works on a Toshiba System". When I saw this I knew I was doomed. This error a1lone is sufficient for me to claim that the "importance of installation order" is a myth, and that this and the other Toshiba utilities listed below do not recognise my machine.
    Here are my results:
TOSHIBA Configfree - This program only works on a Toshiba System
On reboot, and on any reboot, Configfree presents the same message.
TOSHIBA Hotkey - The serial number is invalid.
TOSHIBA Hardware setup - The serial number is invalid.
    Toshiba Zooming utility - OK
Toshiba Zooming utility driver - OK
TOSHIBA Password Utility - The serial number is invalid
    Toshiba Fn-esse - OK
TOSHIBA Accessibility - The serial number is invalid
TOSHIBA Touchpad On_Off - The serial number is invalid
    TOSHIBA Power Saver - OK
TOSHIBA Power Saver Driver - OK
On reboot (and in all subsequent reboots) I get
"A fatal error has occurred. The program has terminated. code: 0x47F
    PC Diagnostics - OK
    Running PCDiag gives the following:
    Model Name: Unknown
    Part Number: Unknown
    Serial Number: Unknown
    Serial Number: Unknown
    OS Version: Unknown
    BIOS Version: Unknown
    Physical Memory: Unknown
Testing CPU and Memory gives PASS results.
    SD Memory Utilities - OK
    HDD Protection - OK
3G, Driver RF, Wireless manager & Network Device ID Registry Setting Tool - not applicable for NB200-13J
TOSHIBA Value Added Logical device - NOT in your list and from what I read, very vital for NB200, does not install at all, as if the file were damaged. I had to manually decompress setup.exe and run the resulting DPInst.exe, after which TVALD says it installed fine.
This completes the clean installation saga.
Now, checking the Services, only Toshiba Bluetooth is listed.
Checking running processes with Sysinternals Process Explorer, I see the following Toshiba-related running processes:
CFSvcs - Service of Configfree (supposedly "only working for Toshiba systems" and not mine!!!)
ThpSrv.exe - TOSHIBA HDD Protection Service
    TosBtSrv.exe - TOSHIBA Bluetooth Service
ZoomingHook.exe - TOSHIBA Zooming utility Hotkey Hook
    Smoothview.exe - Smoothview (by TOSHIBA)
TosBTMng.exe and under it another 6 Bluetooth-related processes
    _Preliminary conclusions and alternative theories:_
    1. My windows may be missing some service(s), prerequisite for the Toshiba utilities, or there is a specific mandatory locale/configuration to be used when installing them, or MSDN OSs are not compatible, etc etc XP-related dark matter.
    2. NB200-13J is not compatible with the utilities.
    3. My EEPROM contents were somehow corrupt (from what I read many Tosh laptops suffer from this) and I need to reprogram them with the DMI Update Utility (see e.g. http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/7011-toshiba-notebook-dmi-updates-for-wrong-error-message/) or with special startup disks (from what I read, not yet issued for the NB200 series)
    4. I am missing a non-public Toshiba utility/driver, provided only to major vendors (and not to end customers) in order to customise their windows pre-installations.
    5. Some conspiracy theory, like the one saying that Toshiba Corporation succumbs to pressures from Microsoft Corporation to poison or kill XP in laptops/netbooks (...)
    6. I am using the wrong fairy stardust.
_Next step_: I'll compare the services and processes running on the original windows with the ones on the clean installation and see what is missing.
In the meantime, any more ideas would be greatly appreciated... (to be continued!)

  • Nokia N97 - Camers pictures and videos no longer i...

As the title says all my images and videos are now no longer within the captured folder when you go into photo's, I have tried deleting all of the _PAlbTN folders, also factory reset the device, still nothing there, any ideas on what I can do to get these back in the captured folder?
Otherwise it seems a pointless feature if every firmware update you lose all the data captured over the months since the last update, I have also tried copying all in the camera album over to the PC and put back onto the phone mass memory.
It's doing my head in now, I have trawled the forums to find information but nothing.. I have a lot of other items on my mass memory which I have accumilated from over the years and transferred to each new phone I get, got something in the region of 2500 images and videos, on the mass memory stored in the traditional way, where E is the mass memory etc:
    E:\Images\200610\200610A0
Instead of the new way i.e.
    E:\Images\Camera\200910\200910A0
Do the files (images and videos) get assigned new tags to allow it to identify them  as being taken on the device, my viewby month folder is also not working.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Great that the new firmware helped at least one user
Right, the Nokia Photo Browser doesnt show videos, since its a photo browser I wonder why the native photo application shows videos - someone should fix that bug or rename the application.
I browse and watch videos with the file manager.
You can exit the Nokia Photo Browser. Touch the screen and hold, after one or two seconds you get a menu popup, there you can do some things and exit the app. Additionally there are much more features than you would expect. If you opened a photo, you can keep the screen touched to get a magnifier. You also can double-touch it so zoom in.

  • Bookmarks not displaying correctly

I have Firefox 22 and use Sidebar Bookmark Selector 3.0. When I now hover over a link in my bookmarks it is supposed to display the info for that link. But now it displays an alltigether different link over it. I believe this started when I upgraded to FF 22. It works correctly in Safemode, so I have gone through all the steps that FF suggested. The only step I did not do was disable NoScript, because it was the only extension that when I went to disable it gave a non computer guy like me an extra meassge of why you shouldn't disable it. I understand the concerns of disabling it, but just incase it was one of those programs where I have to "reteach" it everything it needs to block or not block, I usually have no idea what I'm doing with those so I just decided to leave it enabled. If by chance it was not Noscript causing the problem, that means I did everything on FF's checklist, but none of them worked, Where am I supposed to go from there? Again, everything works fine in Safemode. Also, if this question should be in a different category, please let me know. Thanks

Not a proper answer but I wonder if the pref about pixels has been changed ?
There was a bug (Bug 644952 ) that caused that effect but that does not exist on my Ubuntu system at the moment. Possibly it still affects Windows and if so is a known problem that is unlikely to be fixed any time soon. (Unless Fx22 zoom problems expose the bug to many more users now)
Follow these instructions but do not change anything just report the value currently used.
Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays.
You can adjust your screen resolution.
To modify it do the following:
    * Type '''about:config''' into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
    * If the warning '''This might void your warranty''' appears, click '''I'll be careful, I promise'''.
    * Search for '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx'''.
    * Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. Its default value is -1.0.
I will have to check in Windows see if the Bug still exists.

  • Cursor moves to lower right corner every time I move mouse.

Macro, running 10.6.8. I came back from vacation after not using computer for a week and now this happens. Every time I move the mouse, less than a second later, it moves to lower right corner. Managed to repair permissions, but no good. Restarted with OS disk, repaired disk and permissions. Each time it repairs permissions, there is a long list of items, which seems odd.
Also zapped pram. And unplugged computer for a while.
Figured I try to install 10.7 Lion, which was tricky with limited mouse movement. It installed and worked fine for about a few minutes, but same problem occurred.
    Thoughts anyone?

It sounds like your display is zoomed. Open System Preferences, Universal Access window. You will probable see that "Zoom" is set to "On". You can either turn it off there, or use the hotkey combination cmd-option-8 to toggle Zooming. See there is also a hotkey for zooming in and out. You must have hit the "zoom in" hotkey inadvertently.
If you click the "Options" button, you see the settings that are causing the window to relocate. At the bottom, you probably have "Continuously with pointer" selected.
I should mention that 10.4.9 has two odd glitches that cause the display to shift around, these are probably soon-to-be-implemented features in 10.5.

  • Every time I move my mouse, my entire desktop moves with the mouse!!!!!!

Wow - I have no idea what's going on. I was surfing the net and all of a sudden when I move my mouse everything I see moves with it. I've tried restarting, shut down, etc. I tried restarting with Disk Warrior holding down c and then it disappears - but Warrior says my disk is too severely damaged to repair? So I restart again and when my desktop appears all my icons shift off the screen. Again, I move my mouse and everything moves with it -PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Problem renaming Soundbooth markers

Anyone else seeing this - sometimes during marker rename, Soundbooth 1.0 (build 999) nabs capital letters as keyboard shortcuts instead of putting them into the Name field. This is on an Intel Mac OS X 10.4.11. Here is one way to make this happen.
    1. Move aside user Soundbooth settings (optional; sets baseline for test). These are
    ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Soundbooth/1.0/Workspace and
    ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Soundbooth/1.0/Adobe Soundbooth Prefs
    2. Start Soundbooth.
    3. Open some .mp3 file. File / Open / ... click on file name in browser
    4. Select a stretch of a few seconds in the file by dragging in the Editor panel.
    5. Use the menu bar to zoom - "View / Zoom To Selection". Bug may not appear if you use the keyboard shortcut.
    6. Open Markers panel.
    7. Click "+" icon to add a Marker.
    8. Click in "Name" field to edit marker name. Field outline turns blue.
    9. Try to change name from "Marker 01" to "Marker 01F". Pressing "F" toggles frequency display instead of inserting F into marker name. Other shortcut keys are also erroneously intercepted by the GUI.
    Workarounds:
Don't use capital letters in marker names.
Don't use menu form of View/Zoom..., use "S".
Copy desired marker name from some non-Soundbooth window and paste into Marker panel.
    Save work and restart Soundbooth.

Scott: It took me this entire day (9 hours), to tediously "sync" my imported soundtrack of various sounds, with 30 jpegs, and it isn't because I'm not doing the procedures correctly. I'll telling you this, because, sadly enough, you might encounter a similar problem in IMovie-09...When you open the clip Duration (Inspector), and change the time of a single image from the usual 04:00 (seconds), to say,03:24, and hit 'Done", then go back to check the time, you'll find that in some cases, the "new" time may be 02:00 or 04:00, or whatever iMovie decides to enter. This doesn't happen with every image, but it did on 3 of mine. I have no idea how to correct/prevent this from happening again tomorrow. (?) I just loaded Logic Studio last week, and thus far, making a film in iMovie *****!
    Good Luck!

  • Faulty QWERTY Shortcuts in Dvorak Layout?

I couldn't really find a "bug reports" forum, so hopefully this is where this goes.
I use the Dvorak keyboard layout. I do not use the "DQ" layout where Command shortcuts use a QWERTY layout. So, Command+X to cut means I press the key marked "B" on a standard Apple keyboard.
However, when I Command+Tab through my applications, I still have to press the apostrophe (the key marked "Q") to quit an application, rather than the proper "Q" key for the Dvorak layout. Also, to activate the mouse-rollover dictionary, shortcut CommandControlD, I have to press CommandControlE instead.
It would appear these particular shortcuts are detecting key presses in an International-unfriendly way. Shouldn't this be fixed?
I'm upgrading to Leopard on release day, so I will give an update if this is still a problem.

I couldn't really find a "bug reports" forum, so hopefully this is where this goes.

  • Unresolved bug in adobe reader x with non-default windows zoom level

This seems to have already been brought up here about a year ago: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/776060.
I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with Firefox 12.0 and Adobe Reader 10.1.3. Here is a description of the problem:
Whenever I open any PDF file in a browser (firefox or IE) using the adobe reader I am unable to select text, save the file or interact with the content in any meaningful way because the plugin does not recognise my cursor position. If I click on some text in a PDF document, the reader will immediately highlight a region of text between where I clicked and where it thinks I started clicking from (above 20% of the screen above and to the left of where I actually clicked on the page). If I roll my mouse over the region where the dashboard normally appears, the dash does appear as intended and the cursor changes in response to hover over buttons, as if everything were working, but I am unable to click on anything (clicking does nothing). If I click and hold the dashboard when it appears, it immediately jumps to another region of the page, as if it thinks I moved the mouse (20% up and to the left again). I have recently reformatted and am now using a fresh install, and the issue remains. My desktop zoom level in windows is 150%. The problem appears only inside the browser; viewing PDFs directly in Acrobat Reader X works without issue.
I can resolve the problem either of two ways:
    a) Reverting back to the default windows zoom level (125%).
    b) right-clicking on the Adobe Reader X icon, navigating to the compatibility tab and clicking "Disable Display Scaling on high DPI settings"
The workaround is easy but it's disappointing that adobe hasn't fixed this. Please consider that it would mostly affect individuals who are vision impaired and might not have the know-how to resolve the problem or check for solutions online, let alone post comments such as this. As far as I can tell this problem severely impaires the functionality of adobe in any browser on any non-standard zoom windows installation.

Please be sure to post your issue in the following Feature Request/Bug Report Form.

  • Bug in PDF pinch and zoom?

Hi, I have a big problem related the PDF pinch and zoom.
When I try to make an article with 2 vertical pages each containing one imported PDF and 1 horizontal page contain two imported PDF, the result is a simple jpeg page with no pinch and zoom.
The strange thing is that if in the same article I add more vertical and horizontal pages, the pinch and zoom works!
I use the latest version of Folio builder and Folio Producer and, off course, I follow the normal steps: I choose PDF when I create an article, I use iPad and not Android and the PDF zooming is enabled in Viewer Builder.
I need to have 2 vertical pages and 1 horizontal to adapt an a paper magazine (I know the DPS has not been made for this but my publisher want to publish all our magazine with this platform, we also have a magazine specifically designed for the DPS ). My "idea" is create a stack every two pages to allow rotation between pages remaining on the same pages and enable the horizontaly flow between "articles" but if the pdf are transformed in jpeg I can't proceed...
It's a bug or I missed some step?
Thanks in advance for your answers
Claudio (from Italy, sorry for my english!)

I think there might be a bug here.
I've successfully created a pinch zoom folio using the sidecar.zip files posted by Klaasjan.
However if I import my own article (_h and _v both set to iPad dimensions and containing a simple text field of text).
If the article format is set to PDF, once created and I view the Properties panel, the Smooth Scrolling option is set to Horizintal only and greyed out so it cannot be changed. So no pinch/zoom is available.
If the article format is set to Automatic, once created and I view the Properties panel, I can set the Smooth Scrolling property to Off (Snap to page) and tick the Horizintal Swipe Only checkbox (so I'm matching the setting of the sidecar examples).
However, when I the Update the article to the Folio Producer and then check the article Properties again, the Smooth Scrolling has reverted to Horizontal Only. So again, no pinch zoom.
