  • How do I transfer content from DVR to Macbook Pro via Firewire?

I need help. I want to transfer my recorded shows off of my Comcast Motorolo DVR to my Macbook Pro, Version 10.9.1. I've done some youtube searches and the ones that I find say I need AVCVideocapand that I can get it from downloading Firewire SDK 2.6. So I downloaded firewire SDK 2.6 and when I try to open it I get an error saying it can't be open because it's from an unknow developer. So then I downloaded the lastest XCode software but still no AVCVideocap. I have the 9 pin plug of firewire plugged into the back of my DVR and the othere end of firewire, 6pin, connected to my Mac. Should I be seeing anything on my desktop, like new device or something? Please help. Thanks in advance, Joey

To run the installer, press the Control key and click the installer, and choose Open.
A different way would be to open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, press the padlock at the bottom left corner of the System Preferences window, and select "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from". Finally, run the installer.

  • Getting video from DVR to MacBook Pro

How do I get video from a DVR (Dish Network 625) to my MacBook Pro?

On my Sony DVDR/Set top box (RDR-HXD760) I have to
copy the movie from the hard drive to a disc, then
transfer the disc to the MacBook Pro and copy it from
there. I've not found a way to mount the internal
    drive directly.
Thanks very much. This helps a little. I'd still like to know if there's a way to make a direct feed from this DVR to the MacBook Pro.

  • How do I configure a Pioneer DVR-XD10 external dvd writer to my macbook pro laptop?

How do I configure a Pioneer DVR-XD10 external dvd writer to my macbook pro laptop?
I read online that you could use an external dvd writer on a macbook pro when the internal dvd writer died.
    Please help?
It shows power running through the external dvd writer when I plug in the two usb ends into the respective ports, but it doesn't recognize it when I try to write media to a DVD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

If you have not already done so, your chances will really improve if you....
    1) Connect the printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme

  • Download DVR files to my MacBook Pro?

We're getting ready to cut the Comcast Cable TV cord and save ourselves about $100 a month. My question is this: We've got a few shows recorded on two DVRs that I'd love to somehow save. Is it possible to download those from the DVRs to my MacBook Pro so we can still watch them after getting rid of our cable tv service and the DVRs?
It's badged Comcast and Motorola, DCX3400.

I suspect that stuff on your Comcast DVR is encrypted, thus you won't be able to off load it. I know there are ways to use your Mac as a DVR, but I'm not aware of anyway to get stuff that has already been recorded on a Comcast DVR off of the DVR.

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro - Irregular internet/wi-fi performance

    Hey all.
First, let me apologise if this is a repeat of old discussions. It seems people have been having a few connection issues with the latest MacBook Pro but I couldn't find the exact problem I'm having.
So... ever since upgrading to a MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz i7 with hi-res anti-glare screen in late June, my internet access has been inconsistent and increasingly frustrating. It's not that it doesn't have a connection. Rather, it seems every few times I visit a new webpage I have to wait 30 sec to a minute (or longer) before receiving an error message OR the intended page without all its HTML bells and whistles (ie. a white page with a list of text/links running endlessly down the left side of the page). This happens in iTunes as well, with around half my attempts to visit the iTunes store failing.
The strange part is that, after a page fails to load, I am then able to refresh and - voila! - it loads immediately. It really is random and at no time does my AirPort icon show less than its full bars.
We have another MacBook in the house, as well as an iPad, two iPhones and an old Apple TV and these seem to work just fine, although I have noticed the sync between Apple TV and my problematic MacBook Pro has been quite slow lately.
Sorry for the essay but does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm considering a trip to the Apple Store but would rather tackle this at home if possible, just in case it's compatibility a problem with the Belkin router provided by iiNet.
    Thanks!

I had a problem similar to the one you are describing.I paid Geek Squad (BestBuy's in house tech guy's) to come install a Motorola modem/router.Within 24 hours I was experiencing VERY LONG page load times with many never opening. At times my wi/fi performance was outstanding and at other times atrocious.I called my cable/dsl provider to send out a service tech to see if the problem was outside the house as we had a lightning strike a week before that destroyed my router , modem , blu-ray player and Direct TV DVR box.Almost immediately upon arriving at my home he pointed out that the router/modem installed by Geek Squad was a docsys 3.0 model. He provided me with a docsys 2.0 modem/router free of charge and ever since then my DSL access has been amazing. I doubt that this is the cause of your problem as you state that your other connected devices seem to be performing normally but you may want to rule this possibility out anyway. Good luck and I sincerely hope your wi/fi issues are soon resolved.

  • How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver. I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. thanks

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

  • What is the best solution to watch cable TV wirelessly on my MacBook Pro?

Hi all. I know this isn't a direct AppleTV question but I thought I may find a solution in this forum.
I just purchased a MacBook Pro and I want to watch cable TV wirelessly. I have an old Formac Studio TVR thats held up pretty well over the years which I have hooked up via FireWire to my PowerMac.
    I have...
    -Comcast Cable Box w/DVR
    -Formac TVR
    -Netgear WPN824 v2 Router (ethernet 10/100 only)
-MacBook Pro (core 2 duo 2.4ghz)
I'm open to purchasing new items but I want to hear what solution works best before doing so. I've seen some specs on Slingbox but I wonder if Apple has or is working on a solution.
    thanks in advance.

I have the $149 Slingbox Solo. It connects directly to my Digital Cable box/DVR. You can watch it on a wired or wireless connection. Quality varies according to the speed of the connection. On a local network, the quality is actually excellent. You control the box by an on-screen remote control. As note by others, you can watch remotely from anywhere with an internet connection. It works very well with my Mac as well as various laptops (MacBook pro and a Sony Viao). I also have an Elgato and a Miglia tuner - neither of which can do anything wirelessly. The Slingbox does take control of the cable box. Overall, I am very impressed with the Slingbox and would highly recommend it.

  • Lighter adapter for MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I just wanted to know if a good lighter adapter existed for the MacBook Pro. Or, would it be simpler to get a cheaper 120V inverter, knowing that the vast majority are modified sinewave type, which is not supposed to be the ideal waveform. However, can a standard MacBook Pro charger be used with such an inverter?

Ok, and what about the lighter adapter? It seems rather awkward to have a multi-lighter socket adapter for the GPS, DVR, and an inverter for the electronics charger don't you think?

  • TV on MacBook Pro

How do I put HD video from my HD Comcast cable box to my MacBook Pro? This is very important to me.

You want to ask why you need an HD box in the first place. Comcast has different answers about what they do and don't trap. I've seen sets plugged in tune all the HD channels except their FSN and a couple of others. I've had other ones get ON D and unfortunately adult video feeds right from the set (which is a good reason to call them considering how bad that can be for visitors and children). I've seen some sets get ESPN and some not in different locations.
Simply put, the system is not 100% consistent. If the channels you want to record can be tuned through a television without the HD box, then you don't need the HD box (save a couple bucks a month) and you can use a USB stick or powered adapter to get the feeds from the coax line.
The best way to test this, and all things aren't equal on the tuner side, is to connect the cable to a set w/ an integrated tuner and see if it receives the channels you want.
There are 4 options I see:
    1) Any box or hardware modification to get to the drive (warranty issues)
    2) Direct tuning to a USB capture stick
    3) Slingbox from an HD input (preservation/quality issues)
    4) Connect the Composite video connector from you STB or DVR to a USB device like the eyetv hybrid and either:
    a) record real time from the STB or
    b) record timeshifts from the DVR
Of course the lower you go with the connectors the lower the quality that you will be able to encode or watch will be. This is why the best option you could have is direct tuning.
I've been using a few eyetv compatible devices (miglia for analog and hybrid for all others). If the electronic programming guide functions in your region for free then it's very simple and the export options are about what you get for full QuickTime Pro. Personally, I edit in eyetv, export to a native stream, then throw that in VisualHub, throw it a few options or let it do its thing and batch through video like nothing.
The eyetv hybrid goes for $150 at an Apple Store, you can probably find them for less. That product includes all the software you need for tuning, recording, programming, and exporting. It is also bus powered and has the no latency game mode.
My advice is to think a step ahead of what you currently are doing when budgeting for this type of endeavor. What may seem like a lot of money can amaze you in performance. The ability to connect composite or S-Video is always a good thing. Of course component and HDMI are also great. The Slingbox is a good product, it's a matter of whether or not it's for you. Visit the elgato and slingmedia sites, as well as look at groups for the drive solutions to see what others have to say and find out what works the best for you.
It's a good idea to purchase products like this locally so you can quickly return them if they do not live up to their stated purposes or are incompatible with your system (check the store return policy).
If you're connecting A/V to your computer the VERY BEST thing you can spend your money on (given a laptop) is an isolator w/ surge protection. Don't trust what you see, many isolators do not work and coax is an easy channel to fry your system. Either read reviews of IMHO go with the Belkin PURE|AV line.

  • Mirroring from TV to MacBook Pro: a reverse process.

With AirPlay Mirroring, I can mirror what is on my computer — through Apple TV — onto my TV, but can I do the reverse?
Can I mirror what is on the TV to my MacBook Pro?

Absolutely, I could — if I had that capability.
However, I have a DVR (as part of my TV service), and I have no idea how to backup a recording from that to a USB thumb drive.
I know how to do screen captures and/or video captures on my MacBook Pro, but I can't save programs onto a USB thumb drive from my DVR.

  • Is it possible to remote-access my MacBook Pro away from home?

Is it possible to remote-access my MacBook Pro away from home?
    What I currently have:
    Late-2011 MacBook Pro 8,2 (OSX Mavericks 10.9.5)
    2.5ghz Intel i7 quad-core
    16gb RAM, 1024gb SSD raid-0 (internal)
    Connecting to the internet through:
Apple Time Capsule 2TB (via ethernet)
    +
Time Warner Cable "Ultimate 100" (top speed)
I would basically like to be able to have my MacBook Pro on *at home* and connected to the internet via ethernet to the Apple Time Capsule.. and then be able to somehow connect and log in to my MacBook Pro, either through another computer or preferably, my iPhone 5s..
Mostly just interested in having accessibility to be able to make downloads, such as magnet links, while away from the computer.. and basically be able to come home to mostly finished or complete downloads.. Basically like how you can DVR/TiVo things from your iPhone and have it sync with your DVR/TiVo while away from home..
    Is this possible? Thank you!!

    Yes you can do this.
I would suggest you start with TeamViewer.com (free for personal use).
You will need to install TeamViewer on your Mac AND your iPhone.
The Mac version will need to be configured for unattended remote access.  You should practice before you leave the home.
There are other iPhone apps that can remotely access a Mac.  A lot depends on whether they can get past the home NAT router.  Be careful of apps that provide VNC access, but do not provide a way to get past the home router.  If you try one of these, make sure you test it away from your home WiFi network.

  • Importing CDs into iTunes for Macbook Pro

For Chrismas this year I recieved a new Macbook Pro. On my old computer I would import my CDs into iTunes to listen to music, rather than buying all new music that I already have! This is my first time owning any kind of apple computer and I have no clue how to do certain things on it! I would really like to import my CDs so I can listen to music, but this computer has no CD drive and I have no idea how to do so! I would really like to figure this out so I don't have to spend more money on music that I already own! Please help a confused new Mac user!! Thank you!

    Pioneer DVR-XD09
THAT'S the one I have and use with my Mini.
I got it four years ago for my daughter, with a Netbook, which has since been retired. It comes with a "dual" USB cable (2 into 1 - 1 for data,1 for power) but I got an AC adapter for the power so it only uses one USB port now. The dual cable comes in handy when you're on the go, though. No external power source needed.
It reads and writes (+and -) CD-Rs CD-RWs, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, single and dual layer. About the only thing it won't do is BluRay.

  • Current MacBook Pros Now Upgraded to 802.11n Networking - Software Upgrade

"These Mac computers support 802.11n in the new AirPort Extreme Base Station using the included enabler software:
iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (except 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)
MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme card option"

and the new airport handles 802.11a in addition to the ones already mentioned above in the prior post...
Also, although 802.11n is still draft, Apple pushed this out (as they did with draft-g) hoping they have the right technology for the soon to be finialized spec. The hopes are usually that the hardware remains the same and if there are slight alterations, that a simple firmware update will fix it... Obviously it is always a risk, but chances are it will workout in the end, because imagine if it didn't! It would be bad for consumers and for apple. Hmmm you just bought our $180 router that we were wrong on, and now we are releasing an entirely new one, sorry. This will most likely not happen.
BTW Apple TV doesn't really impress me, I was praying Apple would come out with DVR like ability... Sense they do not have such I still think Windows Media Center, and TIVO, have an edge for people who do not like to buy non-HD quality shows that can be HD for free over the airwaves... Just my random tangent for the day.

  • MacBook Pro Overheating after closing

My wife's MB Pro (15" Core 2 Duo 2.33) often (weekly or so) continues to run when she closes and stows it in the case for transport (motorcycle ride home from the office). When she gets home the MB Pro is running with fans ablazin. Once she takes it out of the case and opens it all is well. It doesn't run too hat as some of the earlier models did. I searched the disc ussions and articles for a solution to no avail. Any ideas?
