DVR to Macbook

I'm looking to take a recording off my DirecTV DVR Model HR20 into my Macbook. What stuff do I need to transfer say a football game onto my Macbook to edit the game?
Thanks in advance!

Look on the back of the DVR. If you have a firewire port, you can use pretty much anything, i.e. FCP or DVHSCap. if not, then you will have to use an analog converter.
If you have no firewire port, I would call up your cable company and swap for one that does. They are required by law to give you one if you ask.
Wait, just reread your post; you have satellite, which is not bound by the same laws.

  • How do I transfer content from DVR to Macbook Pro via Firewire?

I need help. I want to transfer my recorded shows off of my Comcast Motorolo DVR to my Macbook Pro, Version 10.9.1. I've done some youtube searches and the ones that I find say I need AVCVideocapand that I can get it from downloading Firewire SDK 2.6. So I downloaded firewire SDK 2.6 and when I try to open it I get an error saying it can't be open because it's from an unknow developer. So then I downloaded the lastest XCode software but still no AVCVideocap. I have the 9 pin plug of firewire plugged into the back of my DVR and the othere end of firewire, 6pin, connected to my Mac. Should I be seeing anything on my desktop, like new device or something? Please help. Thanks in advance, Joey

To run the installer, press the Control key and click the installer, and choose Open.
A different way would be to open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, press the padlock at the bottom left corner of the System Preferences window, and select "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from". Finally, run the installer.

  • Getting video from DVR to MacBook Pro

How do I get video from a DVR (Dish Network 625) to my MacBook Pro?

On my Sony DVDR/Set top box (RDR-HXD760) I have to
copy the movie from the hard drive to a disc, then
transfer the disc to the MacBook Pro and copy it from
there. I've not found a way to mount the internal
    drive directly.
Thanks very much. This helps a little. I'd still like to know if there's a way to make a direct feed from this DVR to the MacBook Pro.

  • Connecting with USB

I have a cable modem with an ethernet and USB port on the back. The ethernet port is being used, so when I tried using the USB my Macbook will not even recognize the modem. The cable worked fine when I tried it on the other computer, but won't work on my Macbook. When I went to Network Settings I didn't see any USB listing to choose, all I see is Firewire, Ethernet, and Airport. Is there something I need to install from Apple to get it to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With a cable modem I would recommend a 1-to-4 router for its firewall protection. Be sure to set up the permissions. Some brands like Linksys, may have trouble supplying software for Macs, check it.
I have DSL and use the simpler n-way symmetric switches. My DSL modem only has one output so I have an 8-fold switch there--2 Dish DVRs, my MacBook, and 2 long cables to 5-way switches with only 1 to 3 items on each. Those would use 6 and 4 of the ways including the "input". No firewall needed. Put the modem first on the line into the house then you only need one filter after it on the phone line rather than filtering each line.
Look for a sale on any of these near or under $20/$10. The cable modem should be free from the cable company but the router may be say $20, on sale.

  • How to use my macbook air as a dvr

I would like to use my MacBook Air as a DVR in this manner:  I would bring up a flick that I missed and stream it (after the "live" broadcast").  I would like to record it to my "MacDVR" and play it back enabling me to Fast Forward thru the commercials (saving time and patience).  The recording can be done in the background, even if the MacBook's cover is closed -- a set it up and let it run for a given time type of process.  I do not necessarily want to edit the recording.
I do watch some programs on NetFlix thru my AppleTV, but CBS is notorious for NOT allowing this for their programming.  I do not have cable TV, only TWC as my ISP at 20Mbits, and a hefty price ($66/month).  I use OTA antenna for my TV (not a big watcher).
So is there a program out there that can do this?
    Thanks.

If you have a valid sim card or know somebody who has one, stick that in there to activate your phone, then just take out the sim after you're done activating it an it should work fine.
    Hope this helped!
    Cheers

  • How do I configure a Pioneer DVR-XD10 external dvd writer to my macbook pro laptop?

How do I configure a Pioneer DVR-XD10 external dvd writer to my macbook pro laptop?
I read online that you could use an external dvd writer on a macbook pro when the internal dvd writer died.
    Please help?
It shows power running through the external dvd writer when I plug in the two usb ends into the respective ports, but it doesn't recognize it when I try to write media to a DVD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

If you have not already done so, your chances will really improve if you....
    1) Connect the printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
    2) Download and install Bonjour Print Services for Windows on the PC

  • Can I play what I recorded on my dvr on my macbook?

I have Directv with a DVR and would like to record a portion of a parade my daughter was in on my macbook. Is this possible?

I use Toast Titanium's TiVo Transfer app to do that.

  • Download DVR files to my MacBook Pro?

We're getting ready to cut the Comcast Cable TV cord and save ourselves about $100 a month. My question is this: We've got a few shows recorded on two DVRs that I'd love to somehow save. Is it possible to download those from the DVRs to my MacBook Pro so we can still watch them after getting rid of our cable tv service and the DVRs?
It's badged Comcast and Motorola, DCX3400.

I suspect that stuff on your Comcast DVR is encrypted, thus you won't be able to off load it. I know there are ways to use your Mac as a DVR, but I'm not aware of anyway to get stuff that has already been recorded on a Comcast DVR off of the DVR.

  • Downloading DVR Content to My MacBook

After getting an HDTV, I'm now renting a digital video recorder from my cable provider. I use iMovie HD6 on my MacBook running Mac OS X 10.4.11. Until now, I've been using a digital video camera as an A-to-D converter when downloading content from my analog cable video recorder. It would seem that the ADC piece is no longer necessary now that the output from the DVR is already in digital form. If I can find the right cable(s) and adapter(s) to cobble up an HDMI-USB cable, should I be able to just hook this between the DVR and my laptop and fire up iMovie and download saved content? Or do I need either a later version of iMovie or some other hardware/cable setup?

The USB port is for firmware upgrades, and if there is a FireWire port, it won't work either.
    Do this:
    1. Plug in one end of your camcorder's composite AV cable into the cable box, and the other into the camera.
    2. Use a DV to FireWire connection to get everything to the computer.
    3. Turn on the box and set the camcorder to VCR or playback.
    4. I use iMovie HD 6, but any version will work.
    5. Play the recording on the box, and hit record in iMovie.

  • Playing .exe or .dvr video files on macbook pro.

I know that .exe means executable files which are windows files, and i know that these files don't contain viruses i backed up video files from our surveillance video at a location that isn't at home. i want to view these files on mac and do a project on iMovie.

A .exe cannot be used on a Mac. You would need a PC or run Windows on your Mac. I'm not familiar with the .dvr format. It may be possible to convert them to a format playable on a Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion.
Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard or Snow Leopard to get it.

  • DirecTv DVR content to Macbook Pro?

I would like to be able to take the shows I record to my DVR, and put them onto my computer. Please let me know the best way to do this.
(I purchased a Western Digital MyDVR expander, so that my shows could be on an external hard drive and then take them from there to my computer but my computer does not even recognize the hard drive when its plugged in)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Their DVR content is only available for Windows.
See these methods of putting Windows on your Mac*

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro - Irregular internet/wi-fi performance

    Hey all.
First, let me apologise if this is a repeat of old discussions. It seems people have been having a few connection issues with the latest MacBook Pro but I couldn't find the exact problem I'm having.
So... ever since upgrading to a MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz i7 with hi-res anti-glare screen in late June, my internet access has been inconsistent and increasingly frustrating. It's not that it doesn't have a connection. Rather, it seems every few times I visit a new webpage I have to wait 30 sec to a minute (or longer) before receiving an error message OR the intended page without all its HTML bells and whistles (ie. a white page with a list of text/links running endlessly down the left side of the page). This happens in iTunes as well, with around half my attempts to visit the iTunes store failing.
The strange part is that, after a page fails to load, I am then able to refresh and - voila! - it loads immediately. It really is random and at no time does my AirPort icon show less than its full bars.
We have another MacBook in the house, as well as an iPad, two iPhones and an old Apple TV and these seem to work just fine, although I have noticed the sync between Apple TV and my problematic MacBook Pro has been quite slow lately.
Sorry for the essay but does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm considering a trip to the Apple Store but would rather tackle this at home if possible, just in case it's compatibility a problem with the Belkin router provided by iiNet.
    Thanks!

I had a problem similar to the one you are describing.I paid Geek Squad (BestBuy's in house tech guy's) to come install a Motorola modem/router.Within 24 hours I was experiencing VERY LONG page load times with many never opening. At times my wi/fi performance was outstanding and at other times atrocious.I called my cable/dsl provider to send out a service tech to see if the problem was outside the house as we had a lightning strike a week before that destroyed my router , modem , blu-ray player and Direct TV DVR box.Almost immediately upon arriving at my home he pointed out that the router/modem installed by Geek Squad was a docsys 3.0 model. He provided me with a docsys 2.0 modem/router free of charge and ever since then my DSL access has been amazing. I doubt that this is the cause of your problem as you state that your other connected devices seem to be performing normally but you may want to rule this possibility out anyway. Good luck and I sincerely hope your wi/fi issues are soon resolved.

  • Software update and DVR capacity

I had recently updated softweare on FIOS Quantum box. On an old software DVR shows that I had used 90% or 92hrs of HD. After software update I have that is used 100% and used capacity spiked to 144 hrs of HD. Deleting anything it shows that still I have used 100%. Any idea what is going on? Thanks

Ok, so this is a new Macbook Air that you migrated settings from another computer that had the same problem?
First thought is that you may have the Airport network prefs set to require a proxy server. Open Network System Prefs and select Airport. Click on Advanced… then Proxies. Check that none are selected.
If that's ok, then check Ethernet tab and make sure it is set to configure Automatically (or check the manual settings if appropriate).
If that doesn't work, you might try removing all the network preferences and setting everything up from scratch.
If you are not familiar with the Network settings in Network Preferences, you might want to look and see what they look like or take screen shots.
Go to the Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/System Configuration folder and remove these items.
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
Then, open Network System Preferences and add all the Network Services that you need (Airport, Ethernet (I guess over USB--not sure of the name))

  • Connecting Macbook to sony Bravia TV

Ok not exactly the most computer savvy but I am currently trying to connect my Macbook to my Bravia TV. I have a Mini DVI to DVI cable then a DVI to HDMI cable connected the HDMI cable is connected to a box that i have my DVR and Blu-Ray player plugged into, then that is connected to the TV. The problem is that my macbook will not recognize the TV and the TV does not seem to recognize the macbook. I have read several other posts with the same problem all that seem to be solved by matching the computer's resolution to the TV's and by turning off mirroring in the display preferences, but there does not seem to be an option for turning that off in my display options and the detect display button seems to do nothing. Any help would be appreciated

I am trying to do the same . Connecting Mac Book to Sony Bravia. the audio is working fine but no display. After connecting the DVI - VGA adapter the mac screens blinks for a sec or so but then no display on the tv. The apples store sales person told me its plug & play as simple as that.
Pls help with some troubleshooting !
