Having a problem copying from a VHS tape to DVD. Followed the instructions in the Owners manual and and checked the input settings but when the recording process is completed there is nothing on the DVD. Any suggestions ??

I'm not sure what you mean when you say there is nothing on the DVD. Do you mean, something is recorded, but it's all black? Or do you mean that no recording appeared to take place at all?
Here are some steps to follow to confirm proper behavior:
1. Have a VHS tape to play back and a recordable DVD (such as DVD-R).
2. Press INPUT SELECT on the remote multiple times until you see L2 appear on the TV screen. Be sure you have nothing connected to L2 (which are the connectors in the front of the unit). You should see a blue screen.
3. Press VCR on the remote.
4. Insert the VHS tape. You should see the counter set to 0:00:00.
5. Press DVD on the remote.
6. Insert the DVD into the DVD tray and wait until it is fully loaded and the progress bar goes away on the TV screen.
7. Press DUBBING on the remote. You should see the VHS tape start to play back, and the DVD start recording. Let it record onto DVD for around 3 minutes. Then press STOP. Let it finish processing until the progress bar goes away. Then press TOP MENU and navigate to the last thumbnail, then press ENTER. You should start seeing the dubbed video play back.
Report back with your findings.

  • DVR620KU Record Problems

I am trying to record on a blank DVD.  I tried to record a movie from my DVR and got an error message statitng "Recording Error.  This program is not allowed to be recorded.".  I got the same message when trying to dub a movie I had recorded on a VHS tape a few years ago.  The only success I have had in recording was to dub a VHS tape that I had made from scuba diving.  Is there a secret on recording movies from a TV or from a VHS tape onto a DVD?  I tried using Memorex dual layer and single layer DVD+R discs.  According to the manual I should be able to recorde at least once.  Do I need to use RW discs?  Which ones?

Understand that this limitation (not being able to copy copy-protected material) is not unique to Toshiba. This is what all the commercial units are like.
If you're using DVDFab9 or similar products on the PC, they are basically circumventing copy protection and are often on shaky legal ground (possibly based outside the US for example). An example of a product like that, DVDShrink, was taken off the market after being threatened with legal action.
Recording regular broadcast signals (as I have done) is not a problem, nor non-commercial videos, as you've seen.
I suspect that no one has misrepresented the ability of the unit to you. All of this is clearly stated in the manual, which was available for free download prior to your purchase.
Note that this issue existed back in the days of VHS-to-VHS dubbing as well, and it also exists for anyone trying to copy a DVD (sent into L1 or L2) on this or any other commercial DVD recorder.
As for CPRM-compatible discs, you'd not want to look to Europe, which uses PAL and SECAM. You'd probably need to find a supplier out of Japan. As I said before, I'm not really knowledgable on this and you'd need to do more research on the availability of CPRM-compatible DVD-RW discs.

  • Viewing from a VHS/DVD recorder on VGA monitor

I purchased a VHS/DVD recorder to archive old fanmily videos.  It is a Toshiba that has RCA ports, USB ports and HDMI ports.  The monitor I have is a wide screen Viewsonic, but is old enough that it only has a VGA cord connection to the coomputer.  I need to know what specific accessory I need to watch and edit the home movies.  Do I need a VGA/USB sdapter or a VGA RCA video converter, or either, or neither???

    Hello coffeyville1,
While there are available connectors out there that should accomodate your ability to make your current monitor work for you, I've always been taught to make connections from one unit to another with as little "conversion" as possible.  As it's been pointed out here, you should be able to find an inexpensive monitor that will serve the purpose you require without setting you back too much.
One thing to remember is to keep the "quality" of video as high as possible.  If your Toshiba has an HDMI port for video, I'd look for a monitor that support the same connection.
I hope you find this helpful.

  • A good program to record WAVE to dvd 1 & 2 laye

I have Audigy 4 pro , what I found is that I can't find a program that records wave to dvd & or 2 layer (it would be good if it burned cd too.) Can anyone recommend a program that will do this ( it would be nice if it did not break the bank if you know what I mean) nero or roxio will not do it . Thanks for any help with this simple problem. I have had no luck maybe one of you have the answer.

Eric...Thanks a million. They look promising.
As an aside, me being from San Diego, and therefore a frustrated Padres fan, I have to envy both your Cubs and your fans, especially the fans that can reach from the stands onto the field and almost catch a foul ball.
I understand you folks lynched poor Mr. Sussman (I may be wrong on the name).

  • I'm 64 and just found out that cd(s) are for recording music and dvds are 4 recording video

R cds for recording only music & dvds R for video and sound recording -is there more?

You can use CDs for other stuff, but the problem is that they only hold up to 700 MB (which comes out to about 15 average length songs) or so, whereas a DVD holds up to 4 GB. So you can put much more stuff on a DVD. And, using a CD for a video requires special burning or the DVD player won't recognize it as a video.

  • Problems with DVD Player 3.0.1 in G4/466

Problems with DVD Player in G4/466
Yes, I've a g4/466 with two disks. In the first there's system 9.2.2 and the DVD player goes perfect. In the second I've system 10.2 and the 9.2, and the DVD Player (3.0.1) on the system 10 begins to jump in the dock, but stop and nothing happens, I can't open it...
There's any way to reinstal it form system disks???
Or any download to check the error?
    Thanks

    1. Try using Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.2 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X and any applicable DVD Player updates.
    2. Open the Console application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and look for lines relating to the DVD Player.

  • I have a football game recorded on a DVD R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.

I have a football game recorded on a DVD+R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.  My MacBook operating system is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.  DVD Player is App version 5.0.3, framework version 5.0.7.
However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops.  My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9.  The DVD Player is version 4.0.  My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2.  The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0.  The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

  • Can't record sound from DVD player

I just built a new DAW with a Gigabyte MoBo that has the Realtek sound chip on board. I installed an M-Audio external Fast Track Pro connected to the computer with USB 2.0. With the two sound devices I can play Band in a Box (my main band) through the Realtek and out put to my mixer. I then use my Line 6 Pod XT as a preamp to my guitar that also goes to my Behringer mixer. I connect the main out (R&L) from the mixer to the 1 and 2 inputs on the M-audio. I set Audio Hardware setup in AA3 to use the M Audio device for input and am able to record mixer output to tracks in AA3. I tried several configs and this is the only one that I found that works. All is good so far.
I installed a SATA DVD player (Lite on 24x) that works fine, but it plays through the M-Audio via USB, bypassing the Realtek chip, and the sound does not show up in AA3. I'm thinking I need to route the DVD output to the mixer to use the channel that is already set up. I've been trying to output the DVD player through the onboard Realtek but can't find any way to direct it to do so. I don't necessarily need it to play through the Realtek, but I want to be able to record from the DVD player.
So, does anyone have any idea how to direct the output of the DVD player to the sound card of choice? I'm stumped.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • Recording problem on my Xi-Fi Fatality?

'Recording problem on my Xi-Fi Fatality?d So I have a Xi-Fi Fatality, and I would like to be able to record directly from my computer so that it's own output is also the input. For example, if I'm on ventrillo or something and I want to play a funny mp3 to show my friends I'd like to be able for the audio to come directly from the output.
Anyways, my microphone seems to work fine, and that's where the trouble begins.
I go to the sound control panel and click on the recording tab. ? It has microphone as the default device and it says "working."
There are also options for "Auxillary" "Line-In" "Digital-In" and "What U Hear"
However, under each of them it says "currently unavailable"
I am unable to get any of them to function even when I set them to the default device.
    Is this normal?

+ It's funny you should post this because I came here right now to post the exact same thing. I would have posted earlier but I forgot my account information and had to wait to get a reply email.
So... same here (yes I know this was no help).
Actually this is kind of weird. Every now and then my "Aux 2" will become available and my mic is not. I have to restart my computer 4 or 5 times for my mic to become available.

  • I was having problems burning DVDs' fro iDVD and it turned out my burner is at fault I have a 27 inch iMac using a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H. Where can I buy a replacement in UK?

I was having problems burning DVDs' from iDVD and it turned out my burner is at fault.
I have a 27 inch iMac using a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H. Where can I buy a replacement in UK? I have seen these with SATA is this the correct cable for my mac?
I have also tried the Mac superdrive but my imac wont recognise it as it's been configured for macbook air and mini mac. I know I can "make" it work by doing something or other in com.apple/plist, but dont want to mess about in there.
I'm also told an external drive would work but does "mac compatible" mean only for air and mini as their own superdrive is or all macs?
Any help appreciated before I convince myself mac is no better than windows pc!

Thanks but this didn't really help.
I can buy the drives at a dozen places but none of them seem to know what connection is correct (SATA etc) and that includes the apple store. It was the store who told me buy the superdrive and all my problems would be over. Wrong! It isn't recognised by imac as it's confifured for air and mini mac. Only way to make it work is as i said in earlier post. (Would you be happy buying a car you were told would start and then discover you have to open the bottome and fiddle to make it go?)
The apple store I would not even consider taking it to. Days without the pc, over priced and don't have a good reputation for actually fixing things!
    But thanks

  • Old Apple cinema monitor to a Roku or VHS/DVD player?

Hello, I am wondering if there is an adaptor I can use to hook up my old Cinema Display to a vhs/dvd or roku player. Any help would be appriecated.

Unlike similar sized monitors from Dell, the Apple 30 inch cinema display only has DVI input. You can in theory plug it into a DVD player which has DVI output (or HDMI via a converter) and it will display the lower resolution, but it's not going to be much better than just playing the DVD off your Mac

hp pavilion dv7. i get a problem of dvd player hp bd-re bt10n. it indicated that " windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing."

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • Record to VHS from Apple TV?

Is it possible to record to VHS through my Apple TV, the movies and TV shows that I have purchased?
I can understand not being able to do this with rentals, but is it allowed on my purchased items?
I thought I'd check before I start changing all my TV/VCR settings to experiment with it.

atv dont have any input like composite or shvs or component or hdmi
    it only got outputs
it cant record or grab or rip anything
think what you want is some sort of a tv tuner for your computer
which would be able to do that thing
    atv sure can't
but if you did grab the vhs to your computer atv would be able to sync it or stream it for display but your
real question is not related to appletv at all

  • HT2397 Is region code is recorded in the DVD drive? So, if I have two Apple USB SuperDrive, I can have two separate region code?

If the region code is recorded in the DVD drive, then I can purchase two Apple USB SuperDrive to play different region DVD ?

    To Apple Discussions!
It has been reported that VLC overrides the 5 region code option. You will need to read their documention on their website. Otherwise................
You can change the computers region "only 5 times". Then it's locked in the 5th version/region (until you erase your HD & start all over.).
