DW 8.02 and link target (Point to File) tool

After upgrading to IE 7 and DW 8.02, I have experienced
problems with the target tool for links, in the properties bar, not
functioning. (Please note: I am referring to the bullseye that is
dragged to items in the files panel in order to set the link
destination, not the drop-down labeled target for use with frames.)
When I drag the bullseye to point to a file while within a
link or while having text highlighted, either the previous link in
the code has its href changed or there is no change at all. This is
happening when I'm in code view. Because this is a ColdFusion page,
the Design view does not display some of the dynamic content of the
page for it to be edited. (That's not the problem I'm experiencing,
just the reason I can't use Design view to solve the problem.) It
appears that in the tag tree above the results/properties panel,
it's not recognizing that the cursor is within an <a> tag,
which is probably why the bullseye-dragging isn't working.
I'm using Windows XP SP2.
Thoughts? Suggestions? I can code this manually while I work
on the solution, but would be nice to be able to use the bullseye
tool again. It's probably one of my favorite parts of the
Dreamweaver interface.
Of course the best solution would be to convince the higher
powers that this means we should upgrade to CS3. :) But until
then....

I'm not able to reproduce that. I select some text on the page, click on the bullseye, drag and drop on a filename, and I get a link.

Finding Headings and Link Text in MARS files

Hi,
I've been looking into the MARS package and have been able to
extract some great information for my application to read from the
underlying XML, but I'm stuck on a few key items. Does anyone know
how to reliably and programmatically find the following items
throughout a MARS package?
- Headings
- Hyperlink TEXT (I can get the Rect & Dest from the
/page/#/pg.can file but not the text itself)
- Tables & Graphics (where they start and end in the
svg?)
What I'm looking to do is basically build a big inventory of
all these common objects from a .mars file and report them to the
user. I'm just using DOM to read the XML/SVG files.

Hi,
Sadly, there is probably no easy way to do the things you are
asking. Mars files generated from PDF are reliant of the
funadmental properties of PDF. Below I will discuss each of your
points:
Headings:
Depending on the producing application and the settings used
to convert to PDF, there might be some slightly more intelligent
way to do this. A PDF can be "Tagged", such that it has a logical
structure tree. If your sources are very similar in nature (i.e.
same producer and same settings) and come from a producer that
creates Tagged PDF, then it is possible you can use the logical
structure to locate headings. However, if the PDF does not have
this information, the only indication you have that a given block
of text is a heading is that it is bigger than the rest of the text
and perhaps begins with a number. If the PDF is Tagged, then look
for a struct.xml file in the same location as the page. This
references a marked content section in the SVG, which is a named
group.
Hyperlinks:
Sadly, there is very little that can be done here. PDF
represents links as rectangles on the page. There is no direct
association with the text that the user sees as a link. In HTML
links are described as anchors linking to another location with a
specific piece of text representing them. In PDF, it is just a
rectangular overlay on the page. Any change in color (or an
underline perhaps) is a text property and not part of the link.
This is for historical reasons in PDF and Mars does not currently
try to reconcile these pieces of information.
Tables & Graphics:
Well, tables are hard. There is no "table" operator in PDF,
so tables are created using paths to draw the lines and text
operators to place the text inside the table. Again, if you have a
Tagged PDF, it is quite possible that the table has been marked in
the struct.xml and the content identified, but as above, this is
highly dependent on the nature of the source that was used to
generate the PDF. The same is true for graphics. Graphics created
with paths and other drawing operators do not necessarily get
grouped as such, but a Tagged PDF (and therefore a Tagged Mars
file) might have them.
Conclusion:
So, to summarize the above, there are possibilities and if
you have control over the sources, there is a chance that you can
easily obtain the information you require. However, if you have a
number of disparate sources, then I suspect there is no easy
solution for you.
If you have any more specific questions or more details of
the nature of your sources, perhaps there might be something you
can look for. Also, let me know if you need more information
regarding our logical structure implementation in Mars. As always
with PDF, you are restricted by the quality of your sources and
third party PDF creation tools do not necessarily add all the
information that you would require for what you need.

Can I create a custom table of contents and link to other .pdf files based on responses to a form?

Hey Everyone! First post ever, so bear with me:
I'm trying to create a streamlined method to use a form to let myself and others add information and select certain options to put together a custom table of contents. Basically, I would like to have a form with a series of text fill and single/multiple choice options that will automatically populate a table of contents based on the selections and will link to other .pdf files that are associated with the selections. I was hoping this would be possible with a form, but I'm relatively new to the function of the software as a whole and my research came up short. Any suggestions on how to start are more than welcome, and if I wasn't quite clear enough I would be happy to elaborate.

You would need to search for other PDF creation software that can accomplish what you desire.
There are many cheaper PDF creation alternatives other than Adobe's Acrobat Pro software.
Also, try doing a web search under these terms to see if you can find an app/software/solution that may work for you.

Html Iframe and CommandLink Target don't working...

In my application, I have a PanelGrid with 2 columns. The first column have a form with one InputText and CommandLink to submit a form action. The second column have a Html IFrame only. The code is shown below:

That looks like a problem with the plugin-container process (OOPP).
It works if I disable OOPP for the Flash plugin and close and restart Firefox.<br />
I don't know what goes wrong though.

Merging 2 sound tracks together for R and L channels. And linking to video file.

My sound is recorded separately and is imported as 2 separate tracks. One for R channel and one for L channel. What is the best way to merge them together and link to a video file corresponding to those tracks?

They are 2 separate mono tracks.
The way I went about it right now is I have put them both on 2 separate audio tracks in the sequence
and then panned the volume on one to R and on the other to L.
Not sure if its correct or if there is a better way to do that.

Point-to-file

I'm used to GoLive and learning Dreamweaver and there is one
item that's eluding me. Ha! I wish it were just one. Anyway, the
Point-to-file tool is inactive (grayed out) and won't link to
files. Nothing happens. I can link to the files using other methods
so it's not an horrible problem. Does anybody know if there's a way
to turn on this function?

Same here, definitely reproducible, but some possible
workarounds. I can just about select a file in the files pane if I
hover around the left edge of the pane with the cursor. By moving
the file pane to the left you can also select files properly.
Also seems to work fine if I move the main Mac menu to my
laptop screen instead of the secondary screen, strangely I can
select anywhere in this mode, but with the apple menu on the
secondary monitor I can't easily select files from the file pane
when it's on the extreme right of the screen.
Please fix this quickly Adobe, it's a shoddy piece of work
for such an expensive piece of software.

Link to local PDF-file / or html (not web-view)

Hi,
i posted this in the prerelease-forum and got no answear so i thought i give it a try and post here.
i see it is possible to link to a local pdf file with the webview function.
but i want to show a local pdf-file in the app-browser. the one in which linked websites are shown and where i can click "done" to close the window.
i've seen it f.e. in the "new yorker" app where f.e. the cartoon gallery is shown in this browser, so it has to be possible.
does anybody know how this could work?

Captivate 5 not working with LMS when linking to AICC published file

When we publish and link our Captivate 4 files. Everything works fine. Now that we've upgraded and tried launching the Captivate 5 files. We only get a loading screen. Can someone help us? We provide training for over 10,000 employees and train several departments to use Captivate for our LMS, but now with Captivate 5 not working it brings up a big issue for us.

This is with reference to the issue you are facing with AICC courses on LMS.
Please follow the steps mentioned below and let me know if this solves the issue for you.
1.       Close Captivate if already launched.
2.       Navigate to Captivate installed folder ( For Ex : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5)
3.       Navigate to folder “Templates”
4.       Open folder “Publish”
5.       Open folder “AICC”
6.       Rename the HTM file “default.htm” to “default_old.htm”.
7.       Download the zip the file from https://acrobat.com/#d=rZv8-z9C0z4PPMpqjbkZIQ , Unzip the contents and copy the HTM file “default.htm”
8.       Paste it inside “AICC” folder.
9.       Launch Captivate and open the project.
10.   Re-publish the project and upload the content to LMS.
Let me know if this solves the issue.

Point to file bug in CS4 still

I have noticed on both of my machines (Dual 1.8 and Quad-Core
2.5, both PPC and OSX 10.5.5) that the "point to file" tool in the
prop. panel does not work. I had seen this in the DW CS4 beta, but
wrote it off as a "beta glitch" that should be resolved upon the
final release. It wasn't. I click the button and drag towards the
file panel, but half way there, the whip begins to mirror itself in
the opposite direction. This happened in the beta, but it would let
me select the file I wanted. Now, I can't select anything and am
forced to use the "browse for file" function, taking more time.
I thought that DW might not like dual displays (only 1
display actually showing the DW app). I unplugged my 2nd display
and the problem went away. Too bad I need both my displays to
easily see Safari/Firefox while I code in DW or see a Photoshop
mockup.

Link Target, Code Snips and Nag-Screens?

I shelled out the cash to buy a copy of iLife '06 so I could get iWeb.
I quickly found that it was missing the ability to specify targets in links, this is an incredibly basic feature that iWeb is strangely missing. Without it iWeb sites aren't frame-friendly and worse you can't have links load in new windows. For the purposes of a blog, the majority of links will be to external sites and the only work-around I've found is editing the html file (wait didn't I buy iWeb so i wouldn't have to do that?). While this works, as soon as i re-publish my site my edits need to be redone.
Also, there is no way to edit the html or add snips that are useful for inserting widget-like items to your page, banner-ads, etc.
Lastly, I'm slowly being driven insane by the nag-screen prompting me to buy a .mac account, not just during install or during the creation of a new site but every time I open iWeb.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE someone tell me that I've just missed where to specify the link target (a feature iWeb or any web creation tool is useless without), that there is a way to add code, and that I don't have to be assaulted by a nag-screen every time I use my software.

No, you've not missed anything.
iWeb does not allow you to specify target of link. Yes, it's a major omission of a basic function. We don't want everyone to navigate away from our sites, but that's what they'll do...
iWeb does not allow you to paste in snippets of HTML. It must be done after publishing.
iWeb does not allow you to bypass the buy .mac screen. No, I tell a lie. You can get round it by going to the .mac preference pane in System Prefs and entering a dummy name and password, and then allowing iWeb to try and authenticate it when it next opens. Once it's tried once (of course unsuccessfully), iWeb doesn't prompt you any more to buy .mac.

Could you please help me is there any table which will have PSA & data target (Cube or ODS) details.
I know the table which will have data target manage screen details and other table wil give the details like data loaded into till PSA.
But i want to know any SAP table will have link between PSA & data target.
I want to know if the request is loaded till PSA or it is loaded into data target.
Any table will give details like PSA request no, if target is there then some kind of flag like....
Please let me know if any one know the table which will have PSA as well as Data target details.

Run below query by changing to yourr linked server name and see if DTC is enable or not.. if not
Begin distributed transaction

Commit Transaction
To enable MSDTC on each Web server on Windows Server 2008
Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg and then click OK to open Component Services.
In the console tree, expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand Distributed Transaction Coordinator.
Right click Local DTC, and click Properties to display the Local DTC Properties dialog box.
Click the Security tab.
In the Security Settings section, click Network DTC Access.
In the Client and Administration section, select Allow Remote Clients and Allow Remote Administration.
In the Transaction Manager Communication section, select Allow Inbound and Allow Outbound.
In the Transaction Manager Communication section, select Mutual Authentication Required (if all remote machines are running Windows Server 2003 SP1), select Incoming Caller Authentication Required (if running MSDTC in a cluster), or select No Authentication
Required if some of the remote machines are pre-Windows Server 2003 SP1. No Authentication Required is the recommended selection.
Select Enable XA Transactions, and then click OK.
Repeat steps 1 through 9 on the other Web servers.
