DW CC 2014 Server Behaviors directly gone!

DW CC 2014 Server Behaviors directly gone, I expect a year, did not expect the worst fears happened, does no longer appear in the Server Behaviors DW inside yet! This is the DW biggest regret it!

Hi Lefing,
See this discussion Re: Dreamweaver CC 2014 and Server Behaviors. I am locking this post so that we can have all this discussion in one forum post.

  • Missing database, binding and server behavior w/CW 2014.1, extension mnger won't work.

    Following instructions for downloading Adobe Extension Manger and looking for the .zxp or .xzp files doesn't work with my CW 2014.1 CC. There are NO files with those extensions anywhere in my program folders. This is frustrating being a new customer. I PAID lynda.com for turtorials, after I PAID Adobe for software and now I'm at a standstill. Apparently Adobe doesn't want to talk to their end-users. Has anyone else had this problem? I desperately need to get php and Mysql working for one of my paying customers.

    I was pointed in the direction of using PHP and MySQL for database development
    PHP and MySQL are correct, but the connection between them should be through mysqli or PDO, not the mysql extension used by Dreamweaver server behaviors.
    There are many good tools for creating database powered websites, but it can be done with just Dreamweaver and the tools included with the free XAMPP software package. That package contains the Apache web server, MySQL, PHP and PHPmyAdmin (which is a database interface).
    Get the book PHP Solutions by Powers. It will get you going.

  • If DW 2014.1 cc does not support database, binding, server behavior, and PHP/MySQL require it, but using Adobe Extensions Mngr IS NOT recommended, then WHAT TOOLS do we use to develop a database with DW?

    I'm using windows DW 2014.1 cc. I'm following lynda.com tutorials to build a website database with PHP and MySQL. I learned I have to download Adobe Extension Mngr to active DATABASE, BINDING, SERVER BEHAVIOR panels, which I've done. BUT NOW I'VE BEEN ADVISED NOT TO USE THESE TOOLS for new development. If this is the truly the case, then WHAT TOOLS DO I USE to develop a website that has a database?

    then WHAT TOOLS DO I USE to develop a website that has a database?
    Besides the tools you would already need for a system using server behaviors (web server, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin) the only extra tool you need is your own brain.
    A lot of people are disappointed by the lack of database tools in DW now, but really it's much better this way. You can never achieve better than a rinky-dink dynamic website using server behaviors. The code Dreamweaver dynamic behaviors create is really terrible. (I'm not insulting the fine folks who wrote the feature. It's just a consequence of automated code.) You can write better, simpler, more maintainable code yourself, and over time you will improve. With server behaviors you cannot improve. you get stuck in database kindergarten.

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014 and Server Behaviors

    Where are the new server behaviors for PHP/MySQL in the new CC 2014 edition?

    Hi All,
    Just to reiterate we do have Extension Manager CC standalone to install extensions for Dreamweaver CC 2014, that update is already available via Creative Cloud Application, please update Extension Manager if you need to support CC 2014 release products.
    For Server Behavior just wanted to let you guys know that we have it available on the AddOns page from where you can install it for Dw CC 2014 also.Do use the AddOns workflow and let us know about the user experience to help make it better and easier. In case if you are looking for how to install the Server behavior from AddOns page, please follow below mentioned steps :
    1. Download/Install the latest Adobe Creative Cloud Application from creative.adobe.com and make sure to turn on File Sync.
    2. Launch Dreamweaver.
    3. Goto Windows>>Browse AddOns.
    4. Search for Server behavior in the AddOns page.
    5. Now quit Dreamweaver.
    6. After quitting Dreamweaver Click the install Button against the Extension in the AddOns page.
    7. Wait for some time for a notification to be displayed in the Creative Cloud Application. After successful installation of the extension you should receive a notification the Creative Cloud app saying "You installed the AddOn Server Behavior & Database"
    Let us know if that does not work for you.
    Thanks

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 design view gone - what next?!

    First Adobe deprecates server behaviors, now they are removing design view?!  I am stunned.  Design View is the SOLE reason I use Dreamweaver!  (It's more of a quick code navigator in split view.) Live view has NEVER worked in a practical and usable way, and still seems very quirky at best in this 2014.1 release.
    Adobe, Please don't remove useful tools like this!  What's next; dropping extension support?  Some of us have to make a living using these tools.
    Please help me understand, Adobe.  Why not keep design view as an option?
    ...on to opening CS6 once again so I can continue actually working on projects...

    Design View is still available for normal layouts.  See screenshot.
    If you're not seeing it in the selection list, you're working with Fluid Grid layouts.  But don't panic. You have a couple of options.
    Option #1 -- Trick DW into thinking it's a normal layout by putting an X in your FG Layout CSS file. Do this in Code View, not with Designer Panels.
        Dreamweaver Fluid Grid Properties
        dw-num-cols-mobile:      X 4;
        dw-num-cols-tablet:        8;
        dw-num-cols-desktop:    12;
        dw-gutter-percentage:    25;
    =====================================
    Option #2 -- Drop back to CC 2014.0 (June Release) from these direct links:

  • Restrict Access to Page Using a password.php Instead of Server Behavior

    I previously used "log in" and "restrict access to page" server behaviors for my client portal when I only had one client. I had my username and password stored in mySQL database. I recently have gained more clients that all needed to be redirected to their own customized landing page when logged in. Because of this, I used a password.php to store the usernames and passwords and to redirect to different pages. Now, I am wondering how I can restrict access to these pages (i.e. someone won't be able to access the pages by typing the url) since I will not be connecting to a database anymore.

    I'm also confused by your statements.
    >Now, I am wondering how I can restrict access to these pages
    >(i.e.  someone won't be able to access the pages by typing the url)
    >since I  will not be connecting to a database anymore.
    It doesn't matter where you store the credentials - database or php file - the techniques for restricting access will be similar. I really don't understand why you moved away from the database when you got more clients. The more data you need to manage, the more reason to store it in a database.
    After logging in, most sites direct users to the same page, yet pull user specific data from the database. If for some reason you can't do this and need to built individual pages for each client, then store the 'landing' page for the client in the php file or database. Restrict access to each page by comparing the logged in name with an allowed login name. Or a more dynamic approach would be to dynamically pass the page name to a database query that validates that it's ok for the logged in user to access.
    Also, these questions are more appropriate for the app dev forum.

  • DW CS3 Loses Server Behavior

    I have set up the PHP tutorial from
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_php.html.
    Site definitions are setup as per instruction, however, when
    opening the send.php or view.php pages, the server behavior is lost
    in the applications tab. If I try to set them up on that tab again,
    it takes me to a new site def. session.
    If I create a new PHP page, the behaviors are there, I can
    create a connCafeTownsend DB connection, but when I add a RS, the
    Site def. is gone again.

  • OT: Bindings panel, Databases, and Server behaviors in Dreamweaver CC

    Hi all,
    There was a query on the Dreamweaver Facebook page about using server behaviors in Dreamweaver going forward. The product team replied to the post, and I am posting it on this forum for the benefit of users not on our Facebook page.
    In Dreamweaver cc release server behaviors will be available as an extension. Once you install the extension server behaviors feature will be enabled and extensions dependent on it will work as before. In the CC release, you can find the extension at the location
    * Vista/Windows 7: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC\Configuration\DisabledFeatures
    * Mac OS X: /Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CC/Configuration/DisabledFeatures
    Additional documentation is available at

    Also, check out this video created by Silas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB2vmNfcq7A
    The Dreamweaver team has posted their view about the latest changes in Dreamweaver in their blog post  http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/06/a-look-at-the-modernized-dreamweaver-cc.html
    Thanks,
    Preran

    I am sorry to say so, but your disappointing blog post just tells us two things:
    You claim that you are listening to your users, but you have just proved you don’t. Despite the high volume of disappointment expressed through the comments to previous posts of this blog, through comments in Dreamweaver Help or through the Community Forum, you show no change of direction, nor any will to cater for the disrupted workflow that Dreamweaver CC is introducing. Instead, you are just producing blog posts that desperately try to prove us that you are “streamlining” and “modernizing” Dreamweaver. An extension that brings back half of the features is not a strong-enough signal that you have taken into account our needs. Extensions written by third parties which you claim are alternatives but are not resemble more leg-pulling than anything else. Will you reduce Dreamweaver’s price for the removal of killer features that were sold with the software before?
    You do not seem to know how Dreamweaver users use the software or at least, to be fair, how a large number of users do. I thought the aim of software makers was to sell a tool that aids its clients in, and brings value to, their work.
    As an extension writer, I can tell that the vast majority of my users are either DIY guys or professionals working on their own. Not big companies with teams of developers. The majority of those never have been Dreamweaver users and will never be, having different needs and ways of working.
    As responses to your “streamlining” and “modernization” of Dreamweaver have shown, for a large number of users, the strength of Dreamweaver lies in its extensibility, of which server behaviors are the most advanced feature. I am not talking about the code they write, which we all agree has to be updated (and we have been waiting this for a number of releases, now…), I am talking about their very mechanism, which allow us to write our code and use Dreamweaver to speed up our job by helping us to write it again, faster, without errors, visually.
    No other tool offers this possibility. Without server behaviors and database support, Dreamweaver is simply not worth its price…
    Obviously, you are the ones with the real figures and only you can tell if it is a strategic decision or a big mistake. I was a bit surprised though by the number of voices that rose after the Dreamweaver CC release, so I tend to think that Mr. Adobe would not be that pleased by the loss of a good number of faithful clients. But then at least, be honest enough to tell us if you intend to drop a part of long-term users, and stop serving us your commercial soup…
    Now, what will happen?
    You still refuse to listen to the numerous voices who have called against your decision to remove useful features to us, and in this case, we will act accordingly: we are big enough, we do not need your blatant propaganda even by the product manager himself to decide whether Dreamweaver CC will still be worth its high price into our workflow, if the new features will outweigh the loss of server behaviors and database support. If not, of course, we will not upgrade just because you are marketing the supposedly wonderful new features, and we will turn to other tools, with features that will help us improve our workflow in other ways. And goodbye Adobe, we do not trust you anymore… It is as simple as that.
    You show us you really are listening to your customers and you bring back updated server behaviors and database support. In this case, we will know that we can trust Adobe again, that you do listen to us, and will applaud with both hands.
    And, more important to you, we will have a valid reason to upgrade and we will. Come on guys, our productivity is at stake, but your jobs may be in the line too…

  • CS3 Bug with Server Behavior Command?

    Hi there,
    by updating a "Command" with the Server Behavior window
    (windows XP) the upcoming window does not read all the Defaulkt
    Values and Run Time Values anymore (do not know if ever did).
    Here is an
    Example .
    anybody saw the same problem? Or anybody knows a solution?
    thx
    Sebastian

    But if you have any pull, you should pass the note along to the Dreamweaver team and have them fix the bugs.
    It's not a question of "pull". Adobe (or any other software company) decides what to fix, improve, or drop on a cost/benefit basis. Fixing an ASP feature might be relatively simple, but doing so means that something else gets ignored. The ASP feature might be very crucial to you, but if Adobe considers it a low priority in terms of affecting overall sales, it's unlikely to get fixed. Whether that's the right business decision is not for me to say.
    I have submitted a large number of bug reports and feature requests over the years. Some are acted upon, others aren't. So far, I have accepted that the new features are, on balance, worth more than the features that haven't been fixed or implemented. Each user has to make the same decision. If people stop buying Dreamweaver because they think Adobe has made the wrong choices, either Dreamweaver will decline or Adobe will change its policies.
    I have seen new tools, such as Zend Studio, offered by other companies that do PHP things far better than Dreamweaver. I use Zend Studio, and like it a lot; but as an overall web development tool, Dreamweaver still beats it hands down. But neither Dreamweaver nor Adobe can rest on their laurels. That's why I encourage people to make use of the feature request/bug report form at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform to tell Adobe what's important to them. There's no guarantee that your ideas will be adopted, but it's the only sure way to get ideas directly to the people who have the power to implement them.

  • Updating server behaviors

    Some time ago - right after the release of CS6 - I popped a question several places, including a feature request directly to the DW staff, at Adobe.
    The question was about the possibility to get the Server Behaviors within DW CS6 updated to make use of the new and improved MySQLi- and / or PDO-features.
    Yet, nothing has happened...
    Now, I´m asking you guys - in the forum, if I´m the only one, having this feature high on my priorities list???
    Also - IF any members of the dev-team is reading this forum, I´d really like an answer to this question, from you.
    Thank you

    I feel your pain. As a stopgap measure, I found this from Oracle, a converter that can sweep through your .php pages and convert the mysql_ functions to mysqli_.
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/mysql/Converting+to+MySQLi
    I haven't tried it yet, but I do know that the converter needs to connect to the databases to work properly, and it will not follow the Dreamweaver-generated "include" statement to find Dreamweaver's connection scripts. Because of that, the code from the connection scripts will need to be pasted into the .php pages to replace the "include" bit, at least temporarily.
    Also found a post from Shawn Reeves, who documented the steps he took to convert his pages from mysql_ to mysqli_. He posted Dreamweaver regex find and replace strings to handle the conversion all within Dreamweaver itself.
    http://shawnreeves.net/wiki/index.php?title=Dreamweaver_troubles#Stale_PHP.2FMySQL_routine s
    Neither of those is a final solution. One of the advantages of using mysqli is to use php's "prepare" function to protect against SQL injection attacks, and those methods will not rewrite the Dreamweaver code to do that.
    Also, the Dreamweaver-generated code is written in php's "procedural" syntax, and it needs to be switched to the "object oriented" syntax. I found a tutorial on how to do that, but the conversion of hundreds of .php pages will be tedious at best:

  • Is there any way to add dynamic parameter in sql without breaking Server Behavior

    Hello, i'm building multiple language site.. i would like to know if there is possible way to add dynamic parameter in my query, without break the server behavior.
    For example:
    mysql_select_db($database_dxc_conn, $dxc_conn);
    $query_Recordset1 = "SELECT article.articleName, article.articleDesc FROM article";
    $Recordset1 = mysql_query($query_Recordset1, $dxc_conn) or die(mysql_error());
    $row_Recordset1 = mysql_fetch_assoc($Recordset1);
    $totalRows_Recordset1 = mysql_num_rows($Recordset1);
    will become something like this:
    $additionalSQL=", article.articleName_en";
    mysql_select_db($database_dxc_conn, $dxc_conn);
    $query_Recordset1 = "SELECT article.articleName, article.articleDesc $additionalSQL FROM article";
    $Recordset1 = mysql_query($query_Recordset1, $dxc_conn) or die(mysql_error());
    $row_Recordset1 = mysql_fetch_assoc($Recordset1);
    $totalRows_Recordset1 = mysql_num_rows($Recordset1);
    this is just an example, my real scenarion is far more complicated than this... however this kind of approach break the server behavior and force to do hand-coding...
    i would like to know if there's better way to do such thing like this...

    viktor.iwan wrote:

    Server behaviors are simply bits of boilerplate code automatically generated by Dreamweaver. Editing the code doesn't "break" it (unless your edits are badly written). However, once you edit the code, Dreamweaver no longer recognizes it, so you lose the ability to drag recordset results from the Bindings panel.
    If you want to edit server behavior code, the best way to handle it is to lay out your page as you want, using the Bindings panel. Once everything has been done, only then edit the server behavior code.

  • It's official: server behaviors to be removed from DW

    Adobe has finally confirmed what I suspected would happen: server behaviors will be removed from the next version of Dreamweaver. They will still be available to install as an extension, but will no longer be part of the core program.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/04/nextgendreamweaver.html
    There is no information regarding plans to develop a replacement for the server behaviors in a future version. I genuinely have no idea whether a replacement for the server behaviors is on the cards.

    Actually, after looking into this computer I think maybe I would be best to take it to an Apple repair center.  I don't want to break something.  I thought maybe if it was just an easy small battery install, I could do it.  I don't see where another battery can go.

  • ADDT Server Behaviors not all available in CS6

    Hello,
    I used CS3 for years with the ADDT and was very happy with it.  I was given a career change and got away from programming.  I then upgraded to CS6 Master Collection and the ADDT for DW does not install and all the server behaviors I have come to enjoy are not all in CS6.
    What can I do?  Downgrading to CS3 is not an option.  do I now have to repay for these server behaviors in another extension?

    ADDT has been dead for quite a while.   The deprecated server behaviors in DW won't work with PHP 5.5+ so relying on them for current or future projects is futile.   Adobe removed them from DW CC for a reason.
    Steer clear of CS6's Behaviors Panel and learn to manually code with MySQLi (improved) or PDO.
    http://code.tutsplus.com/tutorials/pdo-vs-mysqli-which-should-you-use--net-24059
    Alternatively, Web Assist sells a commercial extension for DW that uses MySQLi Behaviors.
    $149.99 USD to replace the deprecated Server Behaviors panels.

  • In Dreamweaver CS6, the Plus (+) button in the Server Behaviors panel is greyed out. How do I make it operational?

    I am trying to restrict access to a page by redirecting unauthorized users to another page. The Adobe manual instructs me to:
    Open the page you want to protect.
    In the Server Behaviors panel (Window > Server Behaviors), click the Plus button and select User Authentication > Restrict Access To Page from the pop‑up menu.
    I opened the page and went to the Server Behaviors panel.
    Unfortunately, the Plus button is greyed out and not operational. How do I make the Plus button operational so that I can then select User Authentication, etc?
    Charlie

    You can't apply server behaviors to pages that don't contain (or are specified to be when they are created) server scripting. That means they must have the proper filename extension, e.g., filename.php or filename.aspx/
