DW CC - CSS3 drop shadow isn't displayed

Hi.
Still finding my way around this tool.
In DW CC, I've added CSS3 drop shadow in CSS designer. The effect is shown ok when I save & preview in FF browser, but the effect isn't shown in DW's panes: split, design, or live.
Am I missing something?

It should show, at least, it does in version 13.1 build 6443 (go to Help > About Dreamweaver to check your version).
There may be an error in your code stopping it from displaying in DW. DW is much more strict than standard browsers when it comes to code errors.
Could you post a link to your page?
If not, you could check your css and html against the validators to clear out errors.
CSS: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
HTML: http://validator.w3.org/
EDIT: Just saw your new post, are you talking about box-shadow not showing or text-shadow? Either way, both should show in DWCC. Text-shadow does nothing on images, you need to use box-shadow for that.

  • Can't select drop shadow

I have a file from a client that needs to be resized to a few different dimensions. The problem I'm having is that I can select the the layer but the drop shadow doesn't get selected along with the main shape.  I've cut and pasted the file into a different document and the drop shadow isn't included. When I scale the shape, the drop shadow scales incorrectly. I using CS5 Extended on a Windows 7 PC.

The Drop Shadow and other Layer Styles are effects attached to a layer, not expressed in pixels, so you should not expect them to be a part of a selection.
And normally you would not expect effects to size with the object, as they are thought of more in terms of a ficticious "light" falling on the document - for example so a whole set of different objects could maintain a consistent shadow and thus seem the same distance up from the page.  I know what you're hoping for - a way to have the effects just scale with the object (though that would be tricky if the object is scaled unequally in each dimension).
There are a couple of ways I can think of to scale layer styles...
One is to scale the entire document using Image - Image Size before using it in another document, and checking the box shown here:
Another way is to, with the layer already placed and selected in the LAYERS panel, choose Layer - Layer Style - Scale Effects, and enter a new percentage.  This can be more direct than changing the individual style elements manually.
Using Photoshop Help and entering "scale layer style" turns up both of the above, by the way.
One other thing I thought of that could be helpful with what you're doing is if you have other layers in the target document that already have the layer style the way you want it, you can copy just the layer styles to a newly placed layer.  Just right-click on the layer with the style the way you want it and choose Copy Layer Style, then select the layer(s) you want to copy it to, right-click, then Paste Layer Style.

  • Drop shadow won't show up, think it's cuz of the actionscript

Hi, can you please look at my site
    http://www.alphatecspine.com/
See the scrolling text on the flash banner? I added drop shadow filter to it and it isn't showing up, the drop shadow isn't there. I am making that scrolling happen with action script, could that have something to do with it?
    Thanks,
    Stan

no reason other than that I like to use ActionScript whenever I can. It's cleaner to update later on.

  • Modify drop shadow layer style

In PS5 is it possible to modfy a drop shadow layer style changing it's color and opacity without changing the entire layer?

    bainbru1 wrote:
Noel - the issue I encountered was that when I double clicked on the active layer and was presented with the default layer style dialog that did not show the color picker option and then selected drop shadow, I did not see the color picker to the right of the blending options.
As others have pointed out, unless there is some information missing in your problem description, you are observing normal and expected behavior.  To clarify with screenshots what Noel and others have said above:
When you invoke layer style dialog box by double clicking on the active layer, by default it shows the controls for Blending Options. See the words Blending Options highlighted in blue on the left and the headline Blending Options in the main pane of the dialog box!
Merely checking the box for drop shadow does NOT make the drop shadow controls appear.  Blending Options is still selected (highlighted in blue) and the controls in the main pane still have the headline Blending Options!!
To display the controls for Drop Shadow you need to click on the words Drop Shadow.  Then the layer style Drop Shadow has the focus and the Drop Shadow controls are displayed.  You can see this because the words Drop Shadow are now highlighted in blue and the headline over the controls in the main pane says Drop Shadow:
When you select the FX button at the bottom of the Layers Panel, you select the Layer Style you want at the same time, so the Layer Style you chose already has the focus when the dialog box appears, and the relevent controls are automatically displayed.

  • New to Pshop, trying to make gradient drop shadow for webpage

I am a newbie, just got Pshop and watching every tutorial I can find but can't seem to figure out how to make this graphic.  This is a background image for one of my websites (where I did not create the graphic).  Can anyone point me to a good tutorial or walk me through how to create this for a new site I am working on?  Thanks, Gary

or... you could use CSS3 drop shadows on the containing element and skip the need for background images all together.
otherwise I would defer to the list just provided... there seems to be some good tuts in there on how to do what you are looking for...
the hickup you will run into is fading the shadow out at the bottom... this will require seperating the fx layer out and masking it off...
or just masking the layer itself since the your background is the same color as the element.

  • Save for Web is not displaying white text, only showing the drop shadow of a vector.

I just updated Illustrator this morning and now having this issue. I have two logos on the artboard. Both are filled with white, both have the same small drop shadow. The both show up on the artboard, but when I try to save for web or export into a .jpeg the white doesn't fill in on one logo, but it does on the other.
Anyone have any ideas on a fix?

Do the white objects appear when in Overprint mode?

  • Fixing Exported PDF documents that do not display drop shadows

Now, what is the solution to this problem?:
iWork Pages: The drop shadows in Pages and Keynote are generated by a component of Mac OS X. When you view iWork-generated PDF files in Preview, you'll see these shadows. However, if you view the PDF with a third-party reader that doesn't use this component, the shadows will be missing.

    Hi sgfoto,
This is not the exact solution but just a trick.
    Try this:
    1. How about open your file and Export into images i.e *.png, or *.tif.
    2. Save into one folder.
    3. Create New file.
    4. Paste all of the image, clue: one image for one page.
    5. Then Export as a *.pdf file.
Hope this may help and give you an idea.

  • Bookmark bar RSS feeds randomly display only a drop shadow, no menu

Ok, I have an odd issue that just started occurring after an OS reload. When viewing my RSS feed pull-downs from the bookmark bar, they'll often-times open up 100% transparent, the only thing visible being the drop-shadow that surrounds it. The menu still works; I can still click things and it will bring up the page, but since I can't see what it is, I have no clue what I'm clicking. I can get it to be visible again by closing and re-opening the pull-down (sometimes takes a couple tries).
Nothing has changed with my browser profile since I last reloaded windows. I reloaded Windows (7 64-bit) once because my secondary HDD controller crashed on me and I reloaded windows thinking there was a faulty driver stuck in the OS (that and to get rid of the extra junk from the past several years), but later found the motherboard was going bad, so I replaced it and reloaded again (primary is 2x SSD Raid 0). I'm now running that second reload and loaded my profile the same way as before and I'm getting the issue.
To save and load the profile I did the following: FireFox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder (Profile folder) then closed FF and copied the entire contents of the folder to a backup directory. Reloading the profile was the same process but copying the files back to the profile folder after closing FF. I did this on the first reload as well and had no issues, but for some reason I'm running into it now. Seems to occur more during heavy file transfer loads (such as copying from USB HDD to SSD raid). Not actually sure if that's related or not though.
Anyway, any ideas why this might be occurring?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Try to disable transparency in Windows.<br />
Right click in a free space on your desktop.<br />
    Left click on Personalization.<br />
There are four options at the bottom of the screen, choose "Window Color and Appearance".<br />
    Select a border color<br />
    Uncheck: "Enable transparency"

  • Strange InDesign Drop Shadow

    Hi,
I've added a drop shadow to a vector object in InDesign (as you'll see in the attached) but there is this strange thing occurring on the bottom side of it where it's giving  extra drop shadow to on the bottom left half as opposed to running to the full length of the bottom and looking seamless. I've tried playing with the settings but nothing fixes it while still keeping other elements of that drop shadow I like. How can I fix it? Thanks!

Check to be sure there isn't another object behind that one (perhaps the frame for the Mac image extends over that far?), and check the settings with the image selected.
Also check Overprint Preview to be sure this isn't some sort of display anomaly

  • Drop shadows absent from preview in IE 9

I just installed version 4.0 and previewed my entire site in IE 9 after the Muse file was converted. All of the drop shadows on images have vanished from the preview in IE 9. They are present when I view the site in Muse. I've tried choosing None in the Graphic Styles panel, then re-selecting my standard drop shadow. The drop shadow reappears in Muse, as expected, but is still absent from the preview of the page in IE 9. Anyone found a solution?

    HI Dave,
Thanks for your informative email. I just tried adding a 1 pixel 50-percent gray stroke (which I assume is what you mean by border) to an image on my site that also has my standard drop shadow. The drop shadow still doesn't appear in the preview in IE 10 (I just upgraded from IE 9). It doesn't matter if I align the stroke inside or outside. The fill of the image frame was still set to transparent. I also tried changing the fill of the image frame to white, but the drop shadow still didn't export. (It's certainly true I can add the drop shadow manually, not using a graphic style, and have it appear in the preview.) So it appears that the workaround you suggest for using a graphic style isn't working on my system, at least not in IE 10.
Here's a broader and more important question: once the bug in Muse 4.0 has been fixed, will it be safe to use drop shadows on my images, or will IE 8 and earlier fail to display the images properly because the drop shadow will "bleed through" the foreground image, which should be opaque? If I have to choose, I would rather delete the drop shadow and have the images display properly in a wider variety of browsers, than use the drop shadow but risk having IE 8 and earlier users be unable to view the images properly. Will the newest version of Muse (once the bug is fixed) display drop shadows correctly in IE 9 and later, and not attempt to display them in IE 8 and earlier? Does the exported Muse file query the user's computer to see which browser is being used and adjust the display accordingly?

  • The drop shadow or even the type does not show up on the PDF created from SC3

I've created the legends on charts and the text on path and drop shadows are applied.
when I make a PDF, some text get dropped all together as well as the drop shadows do not show up.
Can someone help to solve this?
The only way is make a jpg. files and then create a separate PDF off the Acrobat.
It works but I would like to save the steps.
    Thanks!

    Hello markshepherd1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
According to the following article, when you're going through the process of burning a playlist to a disc, you have the option to select "Include CD Text".
If you’re creating an audio CD, choose your options:
    Change the recording speed:
Choose an option from the Preferred Speed pop-up menu.
When you burn an audio CD, iTunes automatically uses the best recording speed for the CD. However, if your blank CD is rated for a slower speed than the maximum speed of your drive, or if you experience problems creating CDs, you may want to change the recording speed to match the CD’s rating.
Change the amount of silence between songs:
Choose an option from the Gap Between Songs pop-up menu.
Have all the songs on the disc play at the same volume:
    Select Use Sound Check.
Include information that disc players in some vehicles can display:
    Select Include CD Text.

  • Having a strange problem with Drop Shadows in Ai CS5

    Hi there Adobe experts!
I have tried eveything... this is my first post here, but it's my only hope. I have a project where I apply drop shadows to linked images to give a sense of depth. A few days ago, the drop shadows just stopped feathering. It doesn't matter what the blur is set to, its just one colour. Transparency still applies. Here's the kicker...I can open files with applied drop shadows to them and they look fine. But if I try to edit that existing shadow, even by 0.0001 of a pt, it will lose its feathering.
I've deleted the AiPrefs file, and played with just about every setting in document raster effects settings. I have no clue what would cause this.
Oh, and whatever the issue is, it starts in my computer, and then attaches to the files... I sent the ai file to a friend, and when he tried to add drop shadows, they screwed up on his machine too. But it isn't the file. I've attached a brand new (and CMYK, just to see if that would make a difference...) file of a sphere showing the problem. Even with the blur super high, the shadow remains flat and monochromatic.
Any geniuses seen this before or have a remote clue how to solve this one?
    Thanks in advance,
    Luke

All my ram is tripple channel DDR3, same clock speeds, but some is 2GB and some is 4GB.
I just pulled the 2GB sticks (which I had in originally) and left in the 4GB sticks (the ones I recently purchased) and the problem goes away. It's quite odd, I've never had a problem like this before with any other application. I know it's not the best thing in the world to have different types of RAM installed, but my motherboard supports it and I've never had a problem doing it before.
I would be interested to see if this problem is reproducable in the OP's senario, or if this problem can be reproduced by others.
Conclusion: the 2GB sticks work on their own, and the 4GB sticks work on their own. I definitly would not call this a hardware problem, it's an adobe problem and they need to fix their software.

  • Problems with pdf and drop shadow/opacity in quark

I have created a piece of artwork in Quark 7.5 which consists of a round picture box (which has a drop shadow). The picture box is positioned so that it slightly overlaps 2 large circles of colour. These 2 circles overlap each other also - the bottom one is a solid pantone colour, the top one is a pantone colour but with an opacity of 75%.
After creating a high quality pdf file, the pdf does not display (or print) these circles/picture box correctly. It looks as if there is a slightly transparent square picture box just below the round picture box but on top of the coloured circles. This only appears to happen when the round picture boxes are positioned on top of the circle which has the 75% opacity.
I can't figure out how to fix it. I tried making the coloured circles cmyk instead of pantone but that didn't fix it. I've also tried increasing the resolution of the drop shadows in the pdf settings but that didn't work either.
I don't know if this is a Quark issue or an Acrobat issue. I tried changing settings in both applications but can't fix it. Can anyone help?
(I've attached a medium res version so you can see what is happening - it's the 3 round picture boxes at the bottom).

I used the pdf facility in Quark (export as PDF) but I also tried creating a .ps file through the print facility in Quark and then distilling the file in Adobe Distiller and this didn't work either.

  • Importing a .psd file - getting weird effects with drop shadows!! HELP!

    Hi all,
I'm trying to import a psd file as my site and then animate each page.
I have each page set up as a different layer and am importing each page as a movie clip so  i can animate each one separately.
The problem is that i have some images on each page that have drop shadows ( i have flattened these in photoshop so there is no longer the blending options layers attached). When flash imports all the layers it obviously has all of them visible at the same time initially.
When i then go through and separate each page to show at different points in the timeline, the images with drop shadows are now showing the image that was underneath it on import, instead of the drop shadow. Difficult to explain, but if you imagine a page with a square in the middle. That square has a drop shadow along two edges which is a slight shading. On a different page (on the layer underneath) there is just a big image of the sea (could be anything). When i import them, the page with the square is sitting directly on top of the page with the image of the sea. I separate these in the timeline so they show at different points, but when it's just the page with the square showing (the page with the sea isn't showing at this point), instead of the nice shading for the drop shadow, in it's place is the thin part of the image of the sea that was initially under the shading for the drop shadow....
Can anyone suggest what is happening and why, and how to quickly fix it in Flash. It took me AGES to import the whole site and all the pages, but now all the movieclips are completely useless because all the drop shadows are messed up with the images that were importing underneath them???!
I'm in a real rush here too, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.
