DW-CS3 CSS Layout vs. Eric Meyer CSS Sculptor

I am in the process of upgrading from CS2 to CS3. I noticed
that DW-CS3 offers many enhancements in the area of CSS. I also am
aware of the WebAssist CSS Sculptor by Eric Meyer. What I am
wondering is if I upgrade to DW-CS3 do I need CSS Sculptor? Does
Sculptor offer that much more than DW's new enhancements or can a
novice do just fine with DW?
Thanks

I think you'll do just fine with the layouts shipped with
DW.... though for
a novice, I'd suggest you'd need to become familiar with CSS.
Lots of good
css tutorials at the Adobe site that will get you started..

  • Photoshop CS3 to Dreamweaver CS3 CSS question

    Hi all,
    I am sorry if this is allready dicussed a couple of times.I did a search and just could not find it. When I export a site from Photoshop CS3 to DIV (generate CSS by ID) it is aligned to the left and all DIV's have a specific position on the page. How can I get my site to center in Dreamweaver CS3 without having to adjust al separate DIV's?
    For Example: When I export from Photoshop all slices are exported as folowed.
    #Table_01 {
    position:absolute;
    left:auto;
    top:0px;
    width:832px;
    height:562px;
    right: auto;
    #test-13 {
    position:absolute;
    left:275px;
    top:26px;
    width:9px;
    height:189px;
    #test-14 {
    position:absolute;
    left:284px;
    top:26px;
    width:128px;
    height:98px;
    I know how to make a DIV center (with Margin auto left and right) but I do not know how to center all DIV's at once.
    I hope you are willing to help me with this. In case you have more questions let me know.

    The answer is to not let Photoshop write either your HTML or your CSS for you.  What you show is a disaster waiting to happen, really, and is characteristic of the kind of mess produced by any wizard that writes HTML based on a graphic layout.  Use your graphics editors to produce your graphics.  Build your page in DW.  It's a much better way to go.
    I know how to make a DIV center (with Margin auto left and right) but I do not know how to center all DIV's at once.
    I hope you are willing to help me with this. In case you have more questions let me know.
    Leaving your page with all absolutely positioned elements is really asking for trouble, but here's how to make them all center at once -
    Change this -
    </head>
    to this -
    <style type="text/css">
    #wrapper { width:760px; margin:0 auto;position:relative; }
    /* 760px will display on an 800px screen maximized browser window without */
    /* horizontal scrollbars. Change as needed */
    </style>
    </head>
    change this -
    <body ...>
    (the ellipsis represents any other attributes that might be mentioned in the body tag, and SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED EXPLICITLY!)
    to this -
    <body ...>
    <div id="wrapper">
    and this -
    </body>
    to this -
      <!-- /wrapper -->
    </div>
    </body>
    and see if that helps.

  • DW CS3 CSS template problems in EI6

    I'm new to CSS and DW, so I tried starting with DW's new CSS
    layouts. After working on this off and on for about a year, I
    finally got the design to look okay in both FF 2 and IE 7. Wouldn't
    you know my client has IE 6 and the layout breaks in 6. In 6 the
    middle section, including the banner image, float drop down to the
    bottom. If I make the width on #container2 to be 956 pixels instead
    of 950, then 6 lets the middle section float up, but all browsers
    have a background colored gap between the banner images and one or
    more of the sidebar images. I'm ready to pull my hair out!
    Here's the link to the page set to work for IE 7 and FF and
    to break in 6. The entire site, of course, has many more pages but
    this just has the index because I'm experimenting.
    http://www.montanahorsesales.com/shf2/
    and here's the style sheet that has the problem.
    http://www.montanahorsesales.com/shf2/styles/thrColFix.css
    The reason I added the #container2 is to get the cream
    colored background to show in both IE7 and FF. One or the other was
    giving me the dark green background in the main content and the
    other was giving me the cream colored main content background like
    it was supposed to.
    Any suggestions? Is there a quick and easy way to fix this so
    it works in all browsers? Or a hack to fix it for IE 6? I can live
    without it working in any IE before 6, but I need 6 to work.
    In general, it is a mistake to start with DW's included CSS
    layouts? I thought it would be such a smart thing to do but now I'm
    not so sure!

    Hi,
    you could try replacing yours for mine...
    .leftMargin198 {
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    height: 175px;
    width: 554px;
    float: left;

  • Dreamweaver Cs3 CSS Problems

    Good day, I am having problems using my new version of CS3.
    When I am working in split view, or design view for that matter,
    any css that I add to the page does not show up when designing the
    page. Whether it is inline or attached, I don't see the changes to
    the page while working on it. Is there something I need to adjust
    in my properties to make this work? I have not had this problem in
    Dreamweaver MX 2004. Any and all help would be so helpful. Thank
    you in advance.
    Rob

    Hi SnakeEyez, thank you for a prompt reply. I do not have the
    page uploaded as I just started working with it. I don't understand
    how it would be a code problem if Dreamweaver is adding the code
    for me. For example, when I add
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    body {
    background-color: #003333;
    -->
    </style>
    the page is still white when designing. Any ideas why this
    is? Thanks.

  • Web Premium CS3 & CSS error...

    I'm using Windows Vista
    and Adobe Web Premium CS3 (Dreamweaver specifically
    for this issue).
    I have a CSS that I created and it appears correctly in
    Dreamweaver but when I go to preview it in IE7 none of my CSS
    formating comes over. In example, no colors, images or even my spry
    vertical menubar.
    One more thing... my work files are stored on a Win2003
    server not on my laptop.

    Sounds like you need to upload your CSS files to the
    webserver your testing it on.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 CSS Capacity

    Do any professionals out there have this tool yet, are the
    new CSS capabilities worth it? None of the other enhancements seem
    worth it.

    I've had every DW since DW2.
    > What's the biggest difference in the CSS support?
    1. Rendering of floated layouts
    2. Rendering of advanced CSS uses, e.g., min-width, child and
    adjacent
    sibling selectors, as well as pseudo-elements
    3. Management of CSS rules (moving/editing rules/selectors
    from the CSS
    Panel)
    4. Better integration of the CSS tools (for example, when I
    insert a div,
    and name the selector, the div is created with that ID, as is
    the rule)
    5. Moving styles from inline to stylesheet, and moving
    stylesheets from
    embedded to external
    6. Reformatting CSS rules (like code formatting)
    7. Many, many, minor usage improvements
    I use them all, too - it would be very hard for me to
    retrograde these
    capabilities.
    AND - we are finally free of the POP-UP MENU nightmare....

  • InDesign CS3 web layout

    We are making a layout with a lot of text for the web at 480px x 640px. The smallest text is 11pt Eurostile Bold Condensed. It looks terrible on screen and in an exported JPEG. We have gotten it to look pretty good by exporting a PDF X1-A, rasterizing it in Photoshop and then saving for web.
    Any tips on a better way to get this into a JPEG?
    thanks in advance
    pbc

    I don't know Fireworks but for Photoshop there's just way too much text for that to be feasible. Character styles play a big role in this piece.
    The results are acceptable - but I was hoping there was a more elegant method.

  • JS CS3 ScriptUI layout options

    I've been working through the examples and docs and found there are a few ways you can lay out components in the dialog.
    Here is the first example of a simple dialog with 2 drop menus and static text for each. I've aligned them to the right but it just does not look correct.
    var myDialog = new Window('dialog', ' Details');
    myDialog.fDetails = myDialog.add('panel',undefined,'File details');
    myDialog.fDetails.alignChildren = 'right';
        myDialog.fDetails.fPath = myDialog.fDetails.add('group');
        myDialog.fDetails.fTitle = myDialog.fDetails.add('group');
        myDialog.fDetails.fPages = myDialog.fDetails.add('group');
        with (myDialog.fDetails){
        fPath.st  = fPath.add('statictext',undefined,'Path:');
        fPath.dd = fPath.add('dropdownlist', undefined, undefined, {items:["C:", "D:","E:", "F:", "G", "H", "I"]})
        fTitle.st  = fTitle.add('statictext',undefined,'Current Doc Title:');
        fTitle.dd = fTitle.add('dropdownlist', undefined, undefined, {items:["Product1", "Product2","Product3"]})
    myDialog.show();
    In the second example I've used the coordinates to lay out the dialog and achieve the look I want but it took some playing around to get there. The static text and drop menus line up nicely.
    var myDialog = new Window('dialog', ' Details');
    myDialog.fDetails = myDialog.add('panel',[0,100,200,190],'File details');
        myDialog.fDetails.pathName  = myDialog.fDetails.add('statictext',[70,15,100,35],'Path:');
        myDialog.fDetails.pathNameDrop = myDialog.fDetails.add('dropdownlist', [105,12,145,32], undefined, {items:["C:", "D:","E:", "F:", "G", "H", "I"]});
        myDialog.fDetails.docName = myDialog.fDetails.add('statictext',[10,45,100,60], 'Current Doc Title:');
        myDialog.fDetails.docNameDrop = myDialog.fDetails.add('dropdownlist',[105,42,180,62], undefined, {items:["Product1", "Product2","Product3"]});
    myDialog.show();
    To achieve the look of the second option using the first method (not coordinates) is it possible to set the static test in one column and align it to the right and set the dropmenus in a second column and align them to the left? This would be easier but is it possible?
    Cheers, John.

    Here's my Code created with RapidScriptUI application
    var rapidDlg = new Window('dialog',"<Replace Me>",undefined);
    buildWindow();
    rapidDlg.show();
    function buildWindow(){
    rapidDlg.orientation = "row";
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group1
    rapidDlg.Group1 = rapidDlg.add('group',undefined);
    rapidDlg.Group1.alignment = [' ','fill'];
    rapidDlg.Group1.alignChildren = ['right','fill'];
    rapidDlg.Group1.orientation = "column";
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group1.StaticText2
    rapidDlg.Group1.StaticText2 = rapidDlg.Group1.add('statictext',undefined,"short");
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group1.StaticText3
    rapidDlg.Group1.StaticText3 = rapidDlg.Group1.add('statictext',undefined,"this is medium");
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group1.StaticText4
    rapidDlg.Group1.StaticText4 = rapidDlg.Group1.add('statictext',undefined,"this is a very long string");
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group2
    rapidDlg.Group2 = rapidDlg.add('group',undefined);
    rapidDlg.Group2.alignment = [' ','fill'];
    rapidDlg.Group2.alignChildren = ['fill',' '];
    rapidDlg.Group2.orientation = "column";
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group2.DropDownList1
    rapidDlg.Group2.DropDownList1 = rapidDlg.Group2.add('dropdownlist',undefined,undefined, {items:['this contains very long strings']});
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group2.DropDownList2
    rapidDlg.Group2.DropDownList2 = rapidDlg.Group2.add('dropdownlist',undefined,undefined, {items:['short']});
    // Properties for rapidDlg.Group2.DropDownList3
    rapidDlg.Group2.DropDownList3 = rapidDlg.Group2.add('dropdownlist',undefined,undefined, {items:['This contains medium']});
    or you can try
    'rapidDlg.Group2.alignChildren = ['left',' '];
    if you want left aligned not justified

  • Slideshow in CSS layout

    I'm struggling to build a simple slideshow into a website I'm
    in the process of developing. I'm working in Dreamweaver MX and
    have a CSS layout (
    hwaters.com/clients/usfws/prototype/index.htm).
    The slideshows will have images with captions and will be
    controlled by users clicking on "forward" and "back" buttons.
    No Flash or PHP, just javascript would be ideal. I tried
    using Eric Meyer's S5 slideshow
    meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/)
    but it apparently won't function unless the slides are absolutely
    positioned, which won't work with my layout (not as far as I can
    see, anyhow).
    If anybody can point me in the right direction (a tutorial
    would be ideal) of a simple slideshow that would work within my
    existing layout, I'd be forever grateful.
    Thanks.

    There is a great slideshow extension at PVII -
    http://www.projectseven.com/
    (commercial) - called ImageGallery Magic.
    I have used it here -

  • Beginner CSS questions

    I previously designed an html website in Dreamweaver MX 2004
    that I need to switch over to CSS. I've been studying pages and
    pages of tutorials, and have some questions that haven't really
    been addressed, or else I've been missing the point!
    So far, I've successfully created a simple, external .css
    file that had paragraph and heading rules, linked it to an
    existing, table-based, html test-page, published it, and it worked
    fine.
    Now I want to get away from using tables to using divs, and
    there's a sample layout in DW that I selected: Two column, elastic,
    with header and footer. Now I'm confused.
    In the sample page, along with css rules and instructions,
    there are paragraphs of content:

    Question #1: Does this mean this isn't supposed to be an
    external style sheet? Because I'm pretty sure one doesn't put any
    content on an external style sheet. Can I turn this into an
    external style sheet, and what do I need to do in order to
    accomplish this?
    Question # 2:
    As mentioned above, my first foray into an external style
    sheet worked fine with one of my table-based html pages. What I
    fail to grok is when you set up an external style sheet with divs
    how exactly do you put your content on your page in design view? Do
    I need to convert tables to divs, which would be on each individual
    page? Then am I giving up having the divs controlled by an external
    style sheet? I don't mind making all new html pages to be
    controlled by the divs on a css, but then I'm back to the first
    question - how do you place content on an html page, when the divs
    are supposed to be controlled by the external ss. This seems to be
    a never-ending loop in my mind!
    Many thanks in advance for trying to straighten this out!

  • CSS Scrulptor extension problems please help

    I have been following the release of CSSScrulptor by Eric
    Meyer ever since it was released. Since I have little knowledge
    about CSS I thought this might be a perfect tool for me to get
    started and learn at the same time. So yesterday I decided to
    purchase the program from Webassist. Now I am not so sure I should
    have. First the program won’t recognize the serial number
    that I typed in by hand. After the menu opened up I tried to put in
    some values. “Live Preview” does not work and
    “Apply” button also grays out. When I pressed inside
    the Live Preview window, multiple FireFox windows popped up which
    has “ -32 ” inside each window. After that happened
    Dreamweaver CS3 crashed and I got an error message saying
    “Because of known issue of Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac OS X, this
    functionality has been intercepted. Please click OK and choose
    File> New CSS Sculptor Page.” Then I get the same message
    when I follow the instructions. When I tried help> WebAssist it
    opened up a blank page and gave me this message “Firefox
    can't find the file at /MacIntosh HD/Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver
    CS3/Configuration/Shared/WebAssist/CSSSculptor/Help/index.htm#home.htm.”
    I called support and they could not help me with this issue. They
    told me that I have a rare problem that they have never seen
    before.
    Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Take this to the WebAssist support forums please.

  • Dreamweaver hates my css media type

    quote:
    <style type="text/css" media="screen">
    @import "/stylesheets/layout.css"; /* Hide from NN4 */
    </style>
    <link href="/stylesheets/print.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css" media="print" />
    Does not display in Dreamweaver (Rending Mode is set to
    Screen), but works in every browser and validates.
    Dreamweaver reacts better to invalid code:
    quote:
    <style type="text/css" media="screen,print">
    @import "/stylesheets/layout.css"; /* Hide from NN4 */
    </style>
    My only idea is that it sees the invalid media type and
    assumes a media="all". What does Dreamweaver want? I also tried not
    using the @import method and using <link> tags for both
    screen and print. Anyone have any experience w/ this?
    Thanks

  • CSS Acts in different ways according to the logged in user.

    Hi All,
    I have used CSS within my Master Page i.e. Oslo. I have changed the SharePoint 2013s' default Start.aspx file as the new Sites' home page. I also used this CSS code snippet for creating a web menu because SharePoint's default navigation is rather odd.
    However the menu within the master page was a success and I created several pages using the master page and each new page contains the CSS custom made web menu without any error.
    But when I logged using a different Farm Admin Account the CSS menu changes to a somewhat else. But when I logged in using the built in Administrator account the menu is displayed as it should be. But when I logged in as a different Farm Admin the menu is
    not showing as it should be. I have tried inserting the CSS directly to the Master Page and from the Style Library. Both ways are Ok with the built-in Administrator. But when I logged in using another Farm admin the use of Style Library was a useless thing
    and the direct code input method is was the only success one. The style library has all the permission for all users.
    The source code is at the below.

    I haven't seen this issue before. What I would do is, log in as each user then view the source of the page in the browser (right click the page and click "View Page Source" from the context menu, or use developer tools/firebug in the browser). Compare
    the HTML generated for the menu for each user and see if any other CSS classes get applied. My gut is that another class is being applied for the other users, or the HTML is different in some way.

  • CSS problems in IE

    I am working on a project for a web programming class. The
    page I
    created works perfectly in Firefox, Opera, and Safari, but
    not in IE :-(
    I explained this to my professor who thankfully said that it
    was ok if
    it didn't work in IE (The project involves other stuff, like
    database
    access, that is more important than trying to work around
    browser bugs.)
    However, it would be nice if it also worked in IE. If anyone
    could offer
    a few pointers to get my page to display properly in IE, I
    would be
    grateful.
    My page is at
    http://cs.uccs.edu/~wgarces/bargraph.html
    There appears to be 2 problems:
    1) Borders for table rows and cells do not show up.
    2) Cells in the table above the graph do not appear to retain
    the proper
    width
    Oh yeah, one more thing. The javascript is also borked in IE,
    so the
    scrolling effect does not work. I've been using Firebug for
    javascript
    debugging in Firefox. What debugger is normally used with IE?

    Ok. Fixed it. I'm not sure why the validator was complaining
    about the
    color "orange" though. Eric Meyer's book says that it is a
    valid color
    in CSS 2.1.
