DW CS3 on Intel Mac running slow
I saw that there were some technotes on this. It said
external images might be causing the issue, but I have none of
those. Everything I have is pretty simple. One images and a number
of divs.
I also saw this technote and that might be my issue.
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_16104
But it did not tell my how to modify the files in those
locations or what they are called. So I don't know what to do. Can
someone help me?
Could this be something else? I have had this issue in the
past and it went away after a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Brian
do you have more then one hard drive, or an external hard
drive setup that you are using for time machine? you'll notice when
you first boot up, all of the connected drives will be indexed so
when you do a search for an item it not only scans your main drive,
but any device attached to the computer (pretty cool actually).
this can cause slow performance.
also, did you buy a computer that had leopard pre installed,
or did you upgrade? if you upgraded, did you do an erase and
install? upgrade install is asking for trouble anytime you change
OSs, and although this may or may not be the issue, it's at least
food for thought.
Do you have programs running that are not necessary, like
virus software? To be frank, it's pointless unless you want to save
your fellow PC so turn that off.
Have you run disk utility lately to repair permissions? You
really should make this part of your routine after every update or
install.
I have mac and cs3... no issues.

Mac Running Slow after Yosemite
I have upgraded this machine but now applications hang. I have cleared the cache, deleted applications such as Chrome, repaired permissions and turned off any start up applications.
This is the EtreCheck output. I am not sure how to read it - are there other items I should delete or amend? Thanks

trying to launch photoshop cs3 on a mac running OS10.6.8 i keep getting the error message: Licensing for this product has stopped working you cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT adminstrator or Adobe customer support for help
I already Uninstalled and reinstalled the product and it still does not work.Hi,
Try to uninstall the software again and you have to manually
Delete the following folders:

[Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps
[Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/backup
[Startup Disk]/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/
[Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/FLEXnet Publisher/
Go to Applications-->Utilities-->Disk Utility, Open it and Select the MAC HD and then click on Repair permissions.
After that try to run the cleaner tool as mentioned by kglad.
Restart machine and then try to install again.
*** Make sure , you only delete these folders if there is no other adobe applications installed on the machine. As if you have any other Adobe application of the suite ( not free applications ) then it will be a problem. -

That didn' t fix it for me. and I also repaired and verified disk permissions that didn't help. So how do I do the next steps? Can you lay it out slowly for me please?
if that doesn't fix your slow down open disk utilities
-repair and varify disk permissions
-reboot and hold comman-R
-open disk utilities once your on your recovery partition
-repair disk and verify disk
-reboot and you imac should be running at tip top shape

Mac running slow, worse since installing Yosemite from Lion
Mac started to run slow every now and then, updated to yosemite and now getting worse, slow to open programmes like iPhoto (getting jammed when using), websites and switching between the two. Get a coloured wheel often. More worryingly recently when waking from sleep, the left half of my screen is distorted like an old unturned TV!! I am a typical user with little knowledge on how macs work, so am nervous to do much. Have included the etracheck report for info. Can somebody tell me if i should take it to a mac "shop" or have any advice on fixing myself. many thanks

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Mac Running Slow - Etrecheck attached - Pls Help!
Hi,
My Mac has been running painfully slow recently. This all started when i had almost used up all my memory. I purchased a hard drive and copied files over to create more space, however my Mac is still running slow. I get the beach ball all the time when trying to do most things which is frustrating. I use Logic and Serato on my Mac and never had a problem before the start up disk got full! I thought by removing data it would resolve the problem but it has not. When i updated to Mavericks my Mac was running fine as was Logic.
I have done a Etrecheck and attached below to hopefully shed some light on the problem.
Please let me know your thoughts? All help is appreciated.

My mac is running slow, what should I do to clean it up?
Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Start with visits to: OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Get Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. Synk Pro
6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore. Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the View menu. Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file. -

Mac runs slow. Possible to make Mac run faster?
Our iMac has been running slower and slower. I'm not sure if any particular event or download (such as Lion) has worsened this. I have been making a lot of Keynote files over the past year. It seems like there are so many times when we will point-and-click on a function, and our iMac will display the dreaded (rainbow-colored) pinwheel, which indicates that the iMac is doing something (and these things seem to take a long time).
Does anybody have any ideas? We especially notice the difference with iPhoto and iMovie. We do have a slow internet connection, but the slowness of our iMac seems to be independent of the internet.
Here's some info about our Mac:

I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
Carbon Copy Cloner
Data Backup
Deja Vu
SuperDuper!
SyncTwoFolders
Synk Pro
Synk Standard
Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file. -
Mac running slow during simple tasks
Ok so I have been having speed problems with my mid 2010 Macbook Pro. I recently ( About 2 months ago) wiped my mac clean for installed two mac partitions on it. one at 90 gb ( Which now has about 2 gigs free) and the other at 158GB (which has 120GB free). The other day my mac started to run really slowly (on the larger partition) unbearably slowly, and I thought I managed to trace the problem back to Spotify. Spotify was slowing the laptop dow drastically and wouldn't close properly. So I uninstalled Spotify, which I thought had fixed the problem, but then I realised i had not as watching youtube videos, having more than two tabs open in chrome or playing a file in VLC slows the computer almost to a halt. I have checked activity monitor and nothing seems to be hogging all the ram. I also have plenty hard drive space, and the mac still runs slow even when only 1 app is open.
So i thought I would try wiping the mac clean and starting a fresh, so I backed up all the files I needed and tried to load the recovery drive, however the drive starts to load up but the loading bar gets about a quarter through loading and stops. so the recovery drive does no load so there appears to be no way to wipe the hard drive either.
Google searches bring pup all the obvious things that I have already tried so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Cameron

Text-wrap problem ID CS3 on Intel Mac
I've recently been upgraded to an Intel Mac workstation running Leopard and for the most part, the transition has been smooth. However, I just noticed today that I cannot get "detect edges" to work on a text wrap around an object with a transparent background in a placed Photoshop file. The detect edges only works if I have a white background. I've never had this problem before, so I wonder if it's a result of my new computer. I use this function of text wrap constantly, and I'm hoping someone knows if this is a known bug and if there is a work around.
You don´t have to use detect edges feature for extracted PSD-image.... just select a proper Contour Options Type, Alpha Channel for instance.
