DW CS3 over 8

If I buy the CS3 upgrade pack it will replace the v8.0.2 that
I have it
installed in C:\Adobe\Dreamweaver 8, or it will install the
new version in
the default folder (usually C:\Program files) replacing only
the files that
are common in both versions?
Furthermore, if I select C:\Adobe\Dreamweaver 8 as the
installation folder
for the new version, the installer will create a subfolder
Dreamweaver CS3,
or whatever, as it did in the older versions? (For example in
MX, I only
selected the folder C:\Macromedia
and the installation folder was C:\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
MX).
If I buy the full CS3 pack is it safe to install it over the
old one or
should I uninstall first? (never mind about loosing personal
settings,
extensions and so on).

Hi David,
I tried the clean boot (just closing all other apps and stuff
in my system
tray) and CS3 appears to behave nicely now. I suspect
something about the
software I run may have been conflicting with CS3. Of course,
I have a slew
of programs running and a bunch of apps launched when I do
most of my
development but the problem doesn't happen when it is just
CS3. I run with
a mix of commercial and custom windows apps most of the time.
There are others with the CPU problem (that have posted in
the related
threads here) but possibly they are in the same boat, running
in an
environment that CS3 just doesn't get along well with. Thanks
again.

Hi Brad
Sorry to hear you're seeing performance problems on Windows.
We're not able
to reproduce this problem here. We can't fix this until we
can get steps to
reproduce. Did you send a bug report here?:
http://www.adobe.com/go/wish.
I'm not seeing a bug report sent by you.
Are you using Windows XP Pro SP2? Can you reproduce this
problem on more
than one machine? If you can reproduce this on more than one
machine, are
those machines built off the same customized image of Windows
XP? Do those
machines have the same software installed? Does the problem
occur if you
run DW in Selective Startup Mode?:

  • Install CS3 Over CS4 Demo

I've given my daughter my old CS3 Design Suite. It is properly de-authorized from my computers. I am running CS4.
She tried the CS4 30 day free demo. She has since "uninstalled" it from her MacBook Pro.
She's trying to install the CS3 Design Suite and gets a message "Install the CS4 disk".
What is the trick to installing CS3 when you have previously had a trial version of CS4?
    Thanks.
    Steve

She probably needs to run Adobe's CS4 Clean Script. Here's the link:

  • Install Photoshop CS3 over CS/ver. 8?

Hi: I'm helping a friend try to install Photoshop CS3 as a stand alone -- not the suite. He's using OS X and has CS (the suite) already installed (Photoshop ver. 8). I'm helping him remotely using Logmein.
I dragged the Photoshop folder to the trash then tried to install the CS3 CD. I got an error message: "Adobe Photoshop CS3 is already installed. To remove or modify this software, please use its original installer."
He can't find the original CD. Trolling the Internet, it said to check under AdobePhotoshop\Utilities to find an uninstaller. It was there and I double clicked. It told me I had to close other running CS3 insall disks, which I did. When I went back, the Uninstaller was gone.
I tried to install CS3 again but with the same error message.
I'm a PC person so not greatly familiar with the uninstall process here. What's the best way to do this? I found a help file here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331296.html
    Will that work?
    Many thanks!
    George

    Hi:
Thanks for the reply. He installed the full CS suite previously but has ONLY the fully licensed stand-alone Photoshop CS3 -- not the suite and not an upgrade. So he wants to install only that. It's not even critical that he keeps the other stuff that comes with the previous CS suite, if there's a way of zapping all of that.
    Thanks,
    George

  • Can't install Full FW as part of CS3 over trial

I was using the trial of Fireworks, and later decided to buy
CS3. When I try to install CS3 it says that FW is already
installed, even though I've trolled all the forums and followed all
the painstaking steps to remove it from my system.
Obviously I've missed a step. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • A List of Issues and Problems in CS3

I've been logging concerns I have with CS3 over the course of a few edit sessions. I'll list them and see if anyone has any solutions or ways to make these quarks a little more tolerable. (I'm coming from Pro 1.5 into CS3)
    My Current Configuration:
Dual socket Xeon Quad-cores (8 cores total)
    4GB memory
    1TB storage drive
    Nvidia Quadro FX4600
b 1. Can't scroll ahead on timeline when playing the timeline
It used to be that I could advance my view forward or backwards while the timeline is played. Now it snaps back if I try to scroll outside the area currently playing back.
b 2. No XDCAM EX Export
I haven't found an adequate HD export at all in CS3. Does everyone just export uncompressed AVIs when they want to move to AE or Encore? Even a HDV export would be nice, but I don't see that either.
    b 3. Major Memory Issues
I setup two static PSD files on top of a BMP without any effects or motion settings. Memory warnings came up stating memory was low. Looked at my stats in the Task Manager and I was running ~500MB of a Page File and ~2GB of used memory. Very odd. Set the memory settings in Premiere from performance to memory and it didn't help...
b 4. Title Window Doesn't Hold Panel Positions
Each time I open the title window, the configuration is different; the toolbars are usually squished off to one side of the window. Even after resizing these panels and closing the titler, it comes back with a different configuration.
b 5. Title Window is Slow to respond
I feel like I'm running Premiere's titler on an old Pentium when I go to add or change text. It lags so much, as if the processors are pegged out, but the computer isn't crunching anything. The processors don't even flinch at this process, yet the titler is furiously sluggish.
    b 6. Resize Program / Source Windows
The scroll bars stay even when the enitre image at 100% is seen. Tons of gray area around the source window, but it still let's me scroll up/down/left/right... nothing there buy gray void. Why the scroll bars??
b 7. STILL no batch render
I've been wanting this feature back since v6.5. It was very handy to render out multiple projects unmanned using the Batch render. Why can't we have this in CS3?
b 8. AfterEffects doesn't have support for XDCAM...
I'm off topic a touch, but it does make one wonder how to transpose a XDCAM project from Premiere CS3 into AE CS3 when it doesn't have the ability to support it.
Well, that's my rant. Any help in any portion of these blunders would be great. You don't have to respond to all of them, just reference the bullet numbers of interest and let's have a discussion.
    Thanks,
    Spires

And what troubleshooting steps have you attempted so far?
And updating your device's iOS is always optional.  No one forced you to do so.

  • How do I edit image viewer slideshow created in CS3, in CS4?

I apologize for posting this twice...once in a previous post and once here. The reason being...the other post was old (2008) and I'm afraid it might get overlooked. So I thought I'd create a new discussion.
I created a bunch  of slideshows in CS3 using Insert - Media - Image Viewer. I was looking  for an easy way for my client to update the site themselves. Even  though it creates a Flash element, it is easy for them to go in and  switch out the images. All they do is click on the slideshow box, hit  Window - Tag Inspector and click on the little folder at the side of the  Image URLs' line. Nothing could be simpler. Well...I went in to see my  client to show her how to do this but she has CS4. When I tried to do  the same thing, nothing looked the same. The tag inspector did not have  the same elements in it at all. Does this mean she cannot edit the  slideshows I have created? Ugh...
If anyone can help  with a work around to this...I'd be very grateful!
    Thanks.
    Pam

Thanks for your reply via e-mail David. I tried to reply but it's a no reply address so I'm posting here:
Do you happen to know if my client who has CS4 would be able to open the slideshows I created in CS3 using the method mentioned here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Bridge/3.0/WSCF044571-2772-4d28-9EBD-2C9F46AF008A.html
Not having CS4, I can't even play around with it to see. Or will the slideshows have to be recreated in CS4? Has my work in CS3 over the months gone to waste in other words?
Alternatively, would it be better for us both to purchase a $29 Dreamweaver extension such as the one below, so we could both access the slideshow from CS3 and CS4 at the same time?
    http://www.dwuser.com/flashslideshow/v3/
I need to keep building the new site using the slideshows while she maintains the old site (no slideshows) until we upload the new site this summer. I don't want to continue building slideshows she cannot access.
Thanks a lot for your help!
    Pam

  • Scripting CS5- CS3

I'm not sure what posessed me to read the latest thread about people complaining about the inability to downsave from CS5 to CS3 (over in the general forum), but then I had a goofy thought:
What if someone wrote a script to iterate over a document and dump the whole thing in JSON (JavaScript Object Notation), or whatever, and then import it into CS3?
(Originally I was thinking, I wonder why no one who is concerned about this doesn't sit down and write the horrible bear of an XSLT translation from IDML to INX? It certainly wouldn't be pleasant, and it would be a pain to get all the corner cases right, but it should be do-able...) I wondered if there wasn't a format other than IDML or INX that descrbed reasonably well the format of an InDesign document, and then I realized that the Scripting DOM is basically such a model. And even better, since you can ask InDesign to use an older version of the scripting DOM, you can ensure that you don't give CS3 anything that it shouldn't be able to evaluate.
Now...I'm not going to write this tool, but it doesn't seem like it should be more than a few days of work for someone who is eager and interested (maybe none of those people have CS5? I suppose that's not an impediment though! No need for CS5 to write the code...). You just loop over all the properties of the document recursively ("for (i in app.activeDocument)...").
There are probably a whole bunch of corner-cases that need special handling, And some decisions would have to be made about text...maybe the easiest answer with text would be to export it as InDesign Tagged Text and throw that representation in the file, rather than having to loop over individual characters and determine where overrides stopped and started.
And you'd have to be very careful not to get caught in loops in the DOM. Anyhow, does anyone want to do this?
Remember, only forty-two thousand nine-hundred-and-sixty non-unique page views:
p.s.: (Please don't post about this crazy idea in the General forum...I wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea...)

    For:
    1. If people complain it misses features (such as GREP styles), they can be invited to write a workaround themselves!
    2. JS is version independent. Well, largely, at least. If some properties in CS6 or '7 change names (again!), it should be relatively easy to update.
    3. JSON is a general format (isn't it? I'd have to look into it) so, finally, the writers of Scribus have something to look into.
    Against:
    1. You need the same ID version as the document, because otherwise you cannot open it.
    2. It Won't Ever Work, because (if you read that thread) people who "need" the downsave are expecting way too much.
    Neutral:
    1. Does this mean I can stop working on my experimental CSx binary-image-to-INX conversion?

  • CS3 EPS files placed in Quark don't print????

    Hello -
Been fighting some issues on CS3 over the last few months. It seems that I have a problem with placing EPS files from CS3 into Quark and successfully getting a printout. My Specs:
    Mac 10.5.6, G4, 1GB RAM, Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2), Quark 7.5, HP Color Laserjet 4500.
Now, if I go to print a document with "Tiled" output from Quark, I can only have 1 CS3 EPS placed in the file, anything over 1 results in a Tile for the first page, but no second "Tile" when I should get two.
If I step and repeat a picture box with the same EPS 2 or more times, and it fits on one page, I get no output (the job spins up on the printer then quietly dies).
Now before you jump on Quark, I will say that AI CS2 files do NOT exhibit this behavior, it ONLY seems to apply to AI CS3 files.
If I use PDF over EPS, there is no problem. But I have years of legacy document that I do NOT want to have to create PDF's of my EPS files.
Anyone got some insight on this? Thanks!

    >But I have years of legacy document
If these art not CS 3 files then you are ok correct?
The only problem you say is with CS3 is that correct?
Save them back to CS2 as a copy, or upgrade to cS 4 perhaps but I do not know if that would fix the problem. The other thing I can think of that might be an issue is that at one time Quark needed to have Illustrator CS 3 EPS file saved with a tiff preview. Perhaps the type of preview is the cause of this problem.
Try changing the preview in the EPS Options.
Those are my thoughts on this I hope something in it will be helpful.

  • PS CS3 Text Tool No Spaces in OSX Lion

Hi. I still use CS3 (sorry!) and just bought a new machine running Lion.  (Note: It's a MacBookAir and both PS and LR scream on it!)
I transferred CS3 over using Migration  Assistant.  Seems to work fine, except the separate words in the Text Tool get run together, i.e. it does not support spaces between words.  Could this just be a "Preferences" item somewhere? Seems similar to the ol' HTML issue, except HTML even allows you for one space between words.  On PS, I get none.

This is an issue with "Helvetica Neue Bold". See: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/912/cpsid_91264.html
Try another font or another facetype and it will work.

  • Advice on books for learning CS3 Master Collection

I've been trying to learn as much as I can from tutorials and just basic knowledge from around the web.  I am understanding a little as I go, but am thinking that a book or two might help me as well.  I have several sites that I visit from time to time, so I don't need help on that front.  Can anyone give me some advice on what literature I should buy?  I own the CS3 Master collection, and I'm hoping to learn Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver, and maybe other programs related to web design.  I've heard that the bible series is pretty good, but since I'm still considered new I really don't know where to start.  And not sure if this is the place to ask, but as far as web design is concerned, should I also get a book for coding?
Sorry if this is a topic that is asked every five seconds, but I've looked around as much as I could and this was literally my last option.  And in case anyone was wondering, I asking in this forum since every time I start off in one program I usually end up in Photoshop, so I assume people who know Photoshop also know some of the other programs, also I didn't really see a forum best suited for my question.  Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

You would do best to buy individual books for each application.
Some books try to have an overview of several different applications, but they only give the barest amount of information on each one and are basically useless.
Some books like the Bible series are extremely large (Photoshop CS3 over 1,200 pages) but don't assume that more is automatically better.
I think they make some of them big just to impress people looking for an instruction book at their local bookstore.
The Bible and some other books include a CD of images and give step by step instructions using the supplied images.
But they really don't explain how the procedures work and why you would likely using this procedure rather than another.
They basically said, do this, now do that, do another thing, etc.
The Quick Start Guide series by Peachpit Press dispenses with the hand-holding step by step intructions.
It explains how and why to do things and has screenshots on every page to show the menus, tools and procedures of actually using Photoshop.
The Quick Start books just give solid information and are usually much more affordable, which is helpfull if you are buying several books for different applications.
Peachpit Press also has another series of books, their Real World series. These are larger books but without the CD, etc.
Over the last 20 years I've had many different books, but in my estimation the Peachpit books are the best of the bunch. Your mileage may vary.
Since CS3 is rather old, I'm assuming you are looking at Amazon or other online sellers. You might even be able to get some used books through Amazon resellers an a greatly reduced price.
    Good luck.

  • Leopard and CS3 - Are they ready for prime time?

Trying to revive this thread, I manage 130 Macs at an art school and I am starting to research what I am going to do this summer as far as OS and CS versions. Currently we are on 10.4.9 and CS2 and about 15% of our Macs are Intels. I am concerned as I am not hearing good things about Leopard and I am wondering if CS3 is ready for prime time. I should note that stability is my first priority NOT the latest OS and App versions. So the question is are they ready for prime time or should I stay with CS2 and Tiger or should I go CS3 and Tiger.

Summer is a long way off, so hard to guess. I would say that if they don't have the kinks out by then, they probably never will, but still a gamble at this point IMO. I have one of the new Mac Pros (early 2008) w/CS3 Apps installed. I have been using all the below listed apps for the past two weeks without any major problems so far, but I also know that I may be living on the edge right now. I don't feel confident enough to switch to Leopard on my other two computers yet. My restarts on the new machine take about 30-seconds between selecting Restart and ready to start work again (vs about 1.5-2 minutes on my Dual G5). Apps like Photoshop CS3 launch in about 1/3 the time. But all of this speed means absolutely nothing when you slam into an incompatibility - that is the real time trap - I spent the last 8 hours doing nothing but tracking down a Permissions problem in Leopard that none of the utilities will currently fix.
These appear to be working for me so far...
    Photoshop CS3
    Illustrator CS3
    InDesign CS3
    Flash CS3
    Dreamweaver CS3
    Bridge CS3
    Lightroom
    After Effects CS3
    Contribute CS3
    What doesn't work yet...
Acrobat Pro & Acrobat Reader (fix was expected from Adobe last month)
    Other issues encountered so far...
Most Photoshop and After Effects Plugins required paid upgrades to function in Leopard/CS3 (over $1500 for me the past week)
Monitor calibrator software (such as Artisan) dead with no fixes, but to buy all new hardware calibrators/software - again! - another $1000 bucks
I purchased the Silverfast Leopard upgrade ($105) to get the Epson 4870 scanner plugin to work with Photoshop CS3, but having problems - I think it is a Leopard problem
Adobe UPDATES menu item is dimmed out in all CS3 apps.
Having lots of Leopard User Permissions problems - hopefully 10.5.2 will help?

  • D.W. CS3 on Windows 7 64bit, ok?

I'm going to upload D.W. Cs3 that I have now on a Windows Vista 32 bit computer to a Windows 7 64 bit computer. Will that work out ok?

    Thanks Dave,
It is really nice to have people like yourself around to answer these questions.. Saves lot's of grey hairs and cursing fits! ;0) I'm in New Jersery, I checked on the price since I asked you the Q and it seems it will be $199 to upgrade. I'm assuming, ( i know, i know.) that it would be best for me to move CS3 over to the new computer, get it working and THEN upgrade? What is confusing to me is if CS3 needs to be run in compatablilty mode in a X86 folder, what happenes when I upgrade? (don't know if Dreamweaver "uprades" the program I have, or installs a whole new program and I move the files from CS3. I guess I should call Adobe on Monday. Hope they'll answer without charging for "support".
Have a great holiday and thanks again.
    Do you have a website?

  • CS3 will not deactivate

I want to buy a new computer soon and I want to migrate the Photoshop CS3 from my old computer to that new machine.
to that new machine. I have trouble deactivating my Photoshop CS3 (standalone product) even though I am connected to the Internet. This problem persists even after I have tenporarily deactivated my firewall (I have Kaspkersky Internet Security 2014). Is there any way I can deactivate Photoshop CS3 over the phone? I live in Germany.

You have a maximum of two activations per license. You could simply just install and activate on the new PC.
You can call Customer Service in Germany to discuss deactivation or ask for a reset.

  • Why get CS3?

I've got Encore CS3 working finally (had the crash on startup problem, but now solved). Besides being able to use it to create Blu-Ray discs (I have no Blu-Ray burner, so that feature is pointless for me), what is the benefit of Encore CS3 over Encore DVD 2.0?
I've had a look through it and can't find anything different, besides Blu-Ray support???

Yessir...I'm revising my product right now (literally, like....right now) so it's all offline. I'll stick a post-it on my monitor to remember to come back when one of the free ones comes back online.
i'd refer you to someone else who's using it, but honestly, i haven't seen that many so far. one the other day, but now I can't remember who it was. another post it...
might be good to have a page up here where we can showcase our flash projects, hrm?
EDIT - ooooh, actually, here's one that's up, but there's no branding yet, you'll still get the idea what can be done straight out of Encore.

  • CS3 error code

    The situation:
I edited a program in Adobe Premiere CS3.
I exported from Premier CS3 the edited program as an AVI file (3 different times as 3 different file names, just to be sure the AVI file was good)
(Windows Media Player will play all 3 AVI files)
I opened Encore, imported the AVI as a timeline. (3 different times, as 3 new projects, each project bringing in the new saved AVI file)
    Encore settings:
first play: frayser history only  005:chapter 1
Override: frayser history only  005:chapter 1
Title button: stop (it will not allow any other choice)
main timeline: frayser history only  005:chapter 1
End action: frayser history only  005:chapter 1
override: frayser history only  005:chapter 1
Menu remote: frayser history only  005:chapter 1
It starts the build process, then gives the following error:
    Error code:
PGC "frayser history only  005" has encountered an error at 00;01;06;24.
internal software error %0, line frayser history only  005 - PGC Info:
    name = frayser history only  005, ref = Bpgc, time = 00:01:06:24
This is a fresh install of CS3 over a fresh install of Win Vista (due to a hard drive crash). All updates from Adobe has been installed. It is the first use of encore since the re-install....
    Any ideas?

I assume you transcoded the timeline in Encore, set to automatic?
The total timeline is what, 1:06:25 or 26?
Try first removing the overrides and see if it builds.
One option is to export from Premiere as m2v and wav.
If that results in the pgc error, you can try this:
Find the transcoded files (e.g. from one of these first projects - look for source, transcodes), and move or copy the .m2v and .ac3 files to a new directory.  (Do not move the xmpses and other files.)  Create a brand new encore project, and import those as the timeline.  See if that works.
    Let us know.
