DW-CS3 / Split/Design View grayed out

In Dreamweaver CS3 (9.0.3453), when starting a new site, only
the CODE preview button is available - Split/Design views are
grayed out.
Also, everything in the submenu under View > Visual Aids
is also gray
Also, Refresh Design View is gray.
I'm a visual kinda guy, and haven't been able to find a fix
via Google.
NOTE: Everything was ok when first loading, then blew out.
Haven't been able to fix, and reinstalling doesn't work (I use Revo
Uninstaller to totally remove, so as to get a clean install -
nothing)

I think it is probably the type of document you are creating,
for example if
you go to open a javascript or xml or css document, it goes
to code and
grays out the disign and split views. So you might be opening
the wrong type
of document.

Design view grayed out

Hi
Design view is grayed out for build 13875 on a large project. When a component is dragged in, a white circle with a diagonal line appears (can't put it here indication). Design view is visible and works well on small projects, like button skins. Clicking the refresh button doesn't bring back design view. It's a drag working blind. Anyone else having this problem?

Design view is out of whack

I was working on Dreamweaver CS3 a couple of days ago and all
of a sudden (I'm pretty sure I pressed something) the design-view
went weird. I usual work in split view to see the coding and design
simultaneously. Now, the design view displays the given page I am
working on differently than how it would be seen in a browser.
For example, I have my home page, which shows a title and
four text links to the left of a centered image. However, in the
design view mode, it is shown as everything being aligned to the
left. The title, then the image, and then the four links.
I'm sure this could be easily reversed if I only knew what I
had pressed to make it this way. Please let me know if you can
help. Thank you!

That's an indication that a link to an external css
stylesheet is broken, or
that displaying CSS is turned off.
Look in the View menu under the CSS section, it's probably
set to not
display css.

Design view greyed out

Hello
I have this css file and i can only view the code, when I try to click on the design view its greyed out. This wasnt the case last week when I could view it fine. Can anyone help me? Thanks

There is nothing to see in design view in a css file, it is always grayed out. Perhaps you were working with embedded css instead of a css file.

Why is my "hide toolbar" in the View grayed out. I am not able to show the toolbar.

I cannot keep the Safari toolbar showing. The "Hide Toolbar" in the View tab is grayed out. Also, I cannot get the dock to not hide.

Split event is grayed out

I have followed the iMovie '08 Help on how to Split an Event into two and each time I've highlighted the clip that I want to be first and go to FILE, the Split Event before Selected clip is grayed out! What am I doing wrong?
I wanted to show screen shots of the problem but can't add attachments.

I am having the same problem, have you figured out the solution? My movie got too big and keeps shutting down the program so I really need to split the event but don't want to lose all of my hard work! Please anyone help!

Infopath design form grayed out

I Have a user who is also the owner of three infopath files she can access design form under tools in two of the files but not the third it is grayed out how do i fix that?

Have you tried reopening InfoPath form in design mode? Not filler?

Digital Cinema Display View grayed out sometimes

This view is there sometimes and sometimes it is grayed out. At first I thought it was because I didn't have the Timeline selected but then I figured out I can't figure out why it's there only sometimes LOL. Any ideas?

Well I read in the users manuel and it told me the solution a simple "Refresh Video Devices" fixed the problem.

Message Mapping .. Some Icons under Design Tab grayed out

Even in Edit Mode these Icons are grayed out. How Can I fix this problem?. Someone in another thread suggested Java Webstart version 1.4.2_06 thru 1.4.2_09 fixes this problem. I downloaded 1.4.2_09 and installed but didn't help. Anyone has similar problem ?

Go to Control Panel ->chhose Java->choose Java Tab-> under this you will see Java application run time settings ->click on view button and check that
1 .your java run time version is working .
2. more over what are the java version available there and only on eshould be used for this purpose.
Kindly let me know is this problem is only with the components under particular Software component version or it is with whole IR.

Capture viewer grayed out.

Hi all, I seem to have pressed something that lost my capture viewer, everything was working fine ( and still does ), then when I went to capture again after putting in a new tape the viewer wasn't there! Everything else was, including the camera controls etc but no video, I can still capture by using the flip out screen on the camera ( sony pdx10p ) but I would like my video in the viewer back! Can anyone help? I am running 4.5 HD.

Hi Jerry, thanks very much for the reply! I have found out what the problem was, well I say that. I turned off my power book G4 for a while and then turned it back on, and as if by magic all was fine! Basically there was no reason. just did it to **** me off. anyway thanks again. Andy.

Design view inop DW CS3

Design view grayed out, inaccessable. The file has an HTML
extenstion. Files I had previously been able to use Design View on,
Design View no longer works. I suspect I inadvertantly turned it
off, but how?

Problem resolved by renaming file extention from HTML to HTM
- Why in Wilbur's name this fixed the problem, I haven't a clue.
Time to go put paint on my face and start dancing with
twigs.

DW Split View - Design View

When working in DW in Split View, when the user clicks into
the Design View window the view automatically updates the view if
code view has changed.
Can i intercept this? Does it call a specific file or menu
command that i would have access to?
The reason:
We use DW as a stand alone HTML editor and some of the files
we work with are extremely large and each time a change is made in
code view and tusers click into design view it auto updates the
deisgn view and this could end up taking some time. i would like to
manually control this if possible?

So, just got a mobile site template that is CSS3 and HTML5. When I open it to work on it in Dreamweaver CS3, the CSS is not displayed in the "design view" but yet, when you preview in browser, all is perfect. In the WYSIWYG design view, I see the content, but styling is missing. Preview in browser, it is all there.
Is this just a limitation in the CS3 WYSIWYG design view function and I am out of luck? Is there a "fix" - other than a costly upgrade - for it in CS3?

Dreamweaver's design view isn't perfect WYSIWYG even for CSS2.1. Also, I believe you are using a very old DW (CS3) so you are definitely out of luck. Have you tried using the trial version of CS 5.5? It is worth a try but I am not recommending you to buy it now because CS6 is expected to be released in the second half of this year if not before.
Please note DW isn't a WYSIWYG editor so I won't rely on it at all. Always view your page in the two main browsers - FF and IE8/IE9

Import/Export Button in designer grayed out

Import/Export button in designer is grayed out for one user. it is not his security setting, since he doesn't have this issue using other machines.
I am wondering what is wrong on his machine? Could any body help us.

Hi,
It seems that there might be some problem with the specific machine.
In order to be sure, just login as an administrator onto the machine, and check to be sure, whether it is an issue with rights.
However, if it is not the issue with the rights, then we can just reinstall Designer and check whether the issue has been resolved or not.
To do this, just go into your control panel and in the Add & Remove programs, click BusinessObjects and click on change, and then select Modify, expand the client components ,and select Desktop Intelligence : "Entire Feature will be unavailable" and continue with the uninstallation.
The next time around, perform the same steps, and then select DeskI and "Entire Feature will be installed on local hard drive" , and finish the installation.
This would reinstall the designer.

Split Stack grayed out

I'm one of the recent iPhoto to Aperture converts, so I ask for help and patience with my question. For the record, I did first look through older discussion to see if this question had been answered.
I have a group of pictures that I imported from a span of a few days that I'd like to split up. When I select the picture that I want to use to separate the group, and go to the Stacks menu, "Split Stack" is grayed out. I'm certain there something very basic here that I'm not doing correctly, but I'd appreciate any help available. Thanks.

You don't ever mention how these images got stacked in the first place. If they aren't stacked you can't of course unstack them.
If they are stacked there should be a number in the upper left corner of the first image in the stack. Is that there? If you select the image are any of the stack commands not grayed out?
