DW CS4 corrupts

While wrestling with a problem with some forms I discovered that Save As does not produce an identical file with your designated new name: the new file may have some little difference which, in the case of my forms, is enough to make them not work right. Learned that I can do better by changing the file name in the Local Files window.
Well, while I'm here, I'd like to also note that when working with text on a HTML page, if you set the text alignment in the Properties window to (Horizontal) Left, your text may be centered in Explorer browsers, but if you align it left using Format>Align it works. That's kind of stupid for an app that's been around this long (I began with MX).
And before I go, why is it that in some cases when you designate a link in the Properties window, you sometimes can't get access to the Target field without first clicking in some nearby window.
Gee, I could go on and on. Maybe these aren't problems in the Windows version?
Mac OS 10.6.2 Intel duo

Can you show us an example of a page that you saved before a save as and one after?  Is the page being saved within the same DW defined site?
For your second issue, showing us an example of the code will help greatly again.  What code is being generated to align your text? The two commands you are talking about produce the same results.  And by default you should not need to align something to the left, unless there is an element or the text's container is set to align differently.
So anymore details you can provide in either case would be helpful in solving your issue.

  • Photoshop CS4 corrupted file while save to OS X 10.5 Server

    Hello
We have or Leopard OS X Server running for months. Running CS3 Clients on 10.4.11 without any problems.
A couple of weeks ago we swapped to 10.5 Clients and all Photoshop where corrupted when using "save", the "save as" works fine. After some discussions with the Adobe Support we decided to upgrade all our clients to CS4 (very expensive, while we own CS3.3 only for 5 months now)
The Same problem occured with CS4 Photoshop. After again a discussion with Adobe Support whe switched of VersionCue support within the Preferences of Photoshop. This solves the problem for our G5 Based Machine, but all the Intel-Based machines are still corrupting the Photoshop files.
Has some experienced the same problem? Is their a bugfix our a workaround. The Problem is that using "apple-S" key is an automatic mechanism for our people for your now, you can't switch the mind in days to use "shift-apple-S" Key
Discussing the Problem with Adobe and Apple is very frustrating, they both say it is not their problem or bug but from the other.
For me Adobe should fix this bug. They offer CS4 for Leopard so they should be aware of incompatibilities with the Leopard System
Who is able to help us? Are there some workarounds
    Regards
    Gérard

It's a shame that a company who sells CS4 license for more then CHF 3500 (US$ 2500) isn't able to support the standard FileServer of Apple 10.5. In different forums I found hunderds of entries of people who has the same problem saving photoshop direct to the server under CS3 and CS4.
A workaround is a solution for a new system but OS X 10.5 Server is availible for more then 14 months now. Why didn't they debug it and solve it, the should have enough resources to solve this. I read the problem also occured on some Microsoft 2003 Server but not all.
No Bugfix? Has someone experienced or this is a MS or Apple Server Bug, or morelikely a Adobe CS3/CS4 Bug.

As long as we have no Sync Tools as Connextic "FileAgent" under OS9 I refuse to work localy. We lose to many time to sort out the whole Hierachie of all the Folder that need to be modified!

This is a solvable problem, and indeed a number of networks work just fine with remote access and saving. But it requires your experienced IT to deal with it -- to understand the particular issues with your network and how to solve them on your end. Changing an OS and its network settings, computers, software, routers and switches and their settings, cabling, other network hardware or software or their settings can affect how reliably files can be accessed and saved to a server.
As Adobe has said for years, there are just far too many network variables for Adobe to guarantee that saving to a network will always work. So they recommend: drag the file to the local volume. Work locally. Save locally. Drag the file back to the server.

  • Illustrator CS4 corrupting AppleScripts

I've written a number of AppleScripts that have worked great in AI 9, 10, CS, and were last updated for CS2. We skipped CS3 because of an InCopy bug and are now in CS4, but the scripts, written in Script Debugger, tend to get corrupted if they have global properties. Eventually, the script responds with an empty warning dialog (box with icon, but no words or buttons), and then I cannot run or open the script in an editor anymore. Is there a workaround for this?
I'm on a Mac Pro running OS X 10.4.11. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Rick

Hi, I'm mostly having trouble with Proof Block, especially when I save settings in the script's properties. A coworker has had trouble with the "Bust Up Paragraphs" script I wrote, which does not store values in the script's properties. Is there a particular format scripts need to saved in? I've tried several with no success. Thanks! -- Rick

  • Photoshop CS4 corrupt save for web plugin

    Hi
I've been having problems with my save for web function freezing, so I deleted my preferrences , settings, accidently deleted my save for web plugin. The save for web then greyed out if I tired to save for web any type of document. I moved my save for web plugin from my trash back into the plugin folder. Photoshop save for web was still greyed out. I then restarted my computer and the save for web is still greyed out.
Any sugessions on what I can do to activate "save for web" again would be much appreciated.
I  think it's the plugin that's corrupt, I can't find the photoshop cd to  reinstall it.
Has anyone got the MAC CS4 Photoshop "save for web plugin"  (Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Plugins/Adobe Save for Web  CS4/Photoshop/Adobe Save for Web CS4 Prefs) that they could send me.
This is my CS4 Plugin (it was like this before I accidently deleted it), my collegue's cs4 plugin doesn't look anything like this and doesn't work for me either):
    Thanks very much
    Abi

    Sorry I meant my collegue's cs5 plugin.
I've read  quite a few posts on this subject and other people have got their friend  to send them their plugin and they've inserted it onto their computer  and it fixed the problem. But I don't know anyone who has photoshop cs4  on a mac.
    This is my cs4 plugin

  • CS4 Corrupts the m4v file during export

I am currently using the trial version of Adobe Premiere.  I am trying to figure out if this is the editing software to use.  I recently bought the Canon 7d DSLR camera and with the most recent patches I can edit and view video files within Premiere with ease on my high horsepower computer.  However, when exporting files to the H.264 Blu-ray format, the final file cannot be read by any software.  If I import the file back into Premiere I get the following message "The importer reported a generic error."  The file does seem to have some meat in it (~628 MB for a 4 minute portion of the timeline).  I did try to export to wmv and after 10 hours it exported the entire file, BUT when I open it in media player, only about half of the movie plays, then it becomes corrupted.  Any thoughts?  This is the third editor I have tried and this one is the most promising.  Vegas Pro ran out of memory after a 2 minute compilation.  Pinnacle Studio doesn't recognize the .mov file.
    Here are the specs.
    Premiere CS4 4.2.1 Trial verison
Canon 7D .mov files running at 23.976 fps 1920x1080
Exporting using H.264 Blu-ray (HDTV 23.976 High Quality 1920x1080 (makes unreadable file)
    Computer:
    6GB memory
    1TB mirrored disk
    Intel i7 975 running at 3.33Ghz
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Ndivia 285 Videocard
Windows Experience Index rating 1 to 7.9 (highest)
    Processor 7.6
    Memory 7.6
    Graphics 7.4
    Gaming Graphics 7.4
    Disk Drive 5.9

I kind of thought about that.  Although it is strange that it "leads" you down that path via
    1. having the option to do so
    2. actually putting you through an 8 hour export rendering process (for a 2 hour series of clips) and
    3. producing a file that looks rather large.
Other portions of the CS4 suite like Adobe Encore says you cannot use it in trial mode.
If this is the case, I would like to get some confirmation that Canon 7d .mov files will work before I shell out over 1K for the CS4 suite (especially is CS5 is most likely several months away...I could hunker down and wait)

  • CS4 "corrupt" file?

I have a file that was created about a month ago. I printed it (Epson 2400) and everything was perfect. Last week, I re-opened the file and printed it and the print was horrible; it looked faded. Everything looked fine on the screen. Nothing has changed. Opened and printed other files that were created at the same time and they're fine.
I ended up creating a new Illustrator file, copying the layers from the original file into the new file (via copy and paste) and to my surprise, the print was right on. This leads me to believe that something happened to the original file but I don't get an error message or any indication of a problem other than the print. Both files are CMYK with the same profile.
If anyone could shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Ilene

If you look at Photoshop updates, you will see a lot updates (for CS2, CS3, CS4, etc.), but Illustrator have not provide a single update for almost 3 years. And Illustrator versions have very serious and critical bugs.
Well, I'm not the greatest AI user, but I don't really see it this way. A lot of what you encounter as bugs, I couldn't care less about. That's just the curse of how what specific work we do, influences our perception of a tool. Example: If I had my sayso, we'd gotten rid of "useless junk" like the chart tools (that really only produce charts that make Mr. Tufte shudder) long ago - one portion of code less to maintain and one less potential point for bugs. Yet, others use them all the time and they even have some creative uses. In reverse, I'm craving for consistent CAD tools, as it would help me to prepare my 3D content when I do visualisations. But dilge - nothing really there and until this day AI can't do a proper fillet without help from scripts or plug-ins.
Similar comparisons can be made fo a million other tools and that's where things get extremely foggy - both from users and the developers. Simply put: Whenever a feature is added in response to feature requests, it takes away resources from other tasks and at some point you have so many loose ends, you can't untangle them all. So by all rights, the dev team may have the will, just not enough resources. On the other hand - if you developed a tool without responding to external input, it may represent the perfect realisation of a programmer's "vision" - for a while. As the user's skills and needs evolve, the tool would become less attractive and finally fall off the truck. That part, I'm sure even you would admit, is why, if AI followed such a rigid routine, you and I and otehrs would have stopped using it years ago. So all in all, still someone has to make the hard decisions of what "bad" old stuff gets fixed while new things are added.
The whole thing is certainly not easier when working in a big company that produces many, many programs. You see, isn't it great that you can import or export Photoshop files, Flash content and PDfs from Illustrator? But doesn't that also mean, that the AI team are dependent on the other teams responsible for those components? Does that not hinder going faster on their end? Imagine, if one of those things needs updating and it doesn't get greenlit simply because it isn't ready yet! Something as essential to Adobe products as support for the PSD format not working could delay the entire release of all otehr programs, not just Photoshop.
One more thing you should consider, is that actually most Adobe apps are very, very old. In fact, Illustrator was the program that laid the foundation for the company's development as a business along with some other things. Because of the age, it has aquired "bad habits" long before people like me even used it. In addition, along the way as features were added, this was often done by acquiring external code by ways of plug-ins or hiring a specific developer, and neither you nor I really know the licensing legalese that brings with it. While you can assume that the code has been rewritten to more modern standards a few times (after all, we no longer use Windows 3.1 or MacOS 7), the licensing stuff may prevent the code from being modified in certain ways. Effectively a feature may be "locked" into a given state and unless someone comes up with a way to completely replace it without losing functionality, it has to be used that way to comply with the legal agreements.
My complaint is that Illustrator team doest not care to fix Critical bugs (like the CS4 memory bug, or problems handling photos, etc, etc.)
Trust me, they certainly do care, but as per the above, there are limits as to what they may be able to do and what they are willing to do. You should also note, that how critical a bug is, is not determined by its visible sideeffects. Especially memory problems tend to be very specific and if they cannot be clearly reproduced, they tend to fall off the lists very quickly. In that case one would often simply assume a combination of system-specific issues with otehr software, hardware and perhaps insufficient configuration.
Plus we should ask why Photoshop team can accomplish a lot more than the Ai team?
Do you really think? I don't feel that way at all. Beyond the fact, that the Photoshop team is at least 5 times as large as the Illustrator team, but the program also has a 5 times as large user base (everyone uses PS in one way or the other) and thus may be 5 times as complex to maintain, I don't really see how they achieve "more". Photoshop suffers from the same problems as AI - it's based on an outdated concept of how image processing should be done and is full of legacy features, half-finished "new" features that have just been plugged on and serious frakk-ups. You know, I could start from A and go to Z and come up with an issue for every letter. The most remarkable ones that immediately spring to mind being the network printer issue that plagued CS3, which is unforgivable, to the OpenGL stuff introduced in CS4, that often doesn't work or imposes silly limitations like things becoming awfully slow with a given number of images open. It's great when it works, but I can understand anyone who would want to send gift-wrapped hand grenades to some of the developers when it doesn't. They do some things right like trying to get rid of modal dialogs and using panels instead, but they do just as much wrong with those same panels and many other features.
Regardless, in the end, there is only one truth here: On balance, PS just works for a majority of the clientel and for a vendor of commercial software that is the decisive factor. The same can be said for Illustrator and that pretty much covers all the options. We can discuss this for a month and not come to a solution that will satisfy all sides. You just have to learn to live with it. It's their loss if they don't listen and, on the other hand, we're off the hook when something goes wrong. Still, it doesn't stop me from filing bugs and making noise in some places and that is the one thing I would ask you to do as well: Retain your critical attitude toward these things, but try to to be a bit more constructive and not so quick to judge. You won't get anyone from Adobe to confirm or deny any of this officially, but they surely monitor these forums and take notes. If phrased properly, they will listen.

  • Macbook Air 11" i7 corrupt files problem with Adobe Illustrator CS4

    Hi
this problem may not be entirely related but maybe someone could help anyways or knows how I can proceed...
I'm running Illustrator CS4 on a Macbook Air 11" (latest 2011 model, with i7, 4GB, 128SSD), and lately some files are getting corrupted. specifically, adobe illusrator CS4 files with weeks of work. interestingly, the time machine backups are also getting corrupted.
its like I'm working on a file for a few days, backing up with time machine as well
closes the file, after a few days returns to it… (normal behavior)
then when i try to get back to the file then sometimes it says "Cant open the illustration, could not complete the operation" and opens a blank canvas.
restoring the file via time machine also gives the same error (its like all versions get corrupted simultaneously), even 4-5 versions backwards, even though they worked before when the file worked
it happened quite a few times, ruining weeks of work.
    I tried the following:
    reinstalling CS4 - didn't work
Opening the files on CS5 - still don't open
doing the file recovery thing and then opening it in a notepad - didn't work at all
using Time machine - the files are still corrupt
it only happenes with AI files, not photoshop files, for example.
I thought maybe it has anything to do with SSD? since my previous macbook pro (15", 2007) never did these errors…
    please help
    Eido

If at all, this would be I/O performance and bandwidth issues with Time Machine, but I don't think that's the problem. More to the point I think that it's a case of Preview opening the files to genereate thumbnails and icons and something going wrong there. I'd look up some guides on how to edit the relevant plist and conf files to exclude your AIs or turn off the behavior to generate these previews globally. This may help hugely...

  • How to resolve message "Installer database is corrupt" when trying to install CS4 on Win 8.1?

I purchased a disk set of CS4 a few years back and have recently purchased a new computer. When trying to install CS4 on the new computer, I received an error message saying "Installer database is corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer support." Called "customer support" and after a VERY long time and three transfers, I was told "Too bad, we can't help you. Maybe download a new copy?" So I did. When trying to install the fresh download, I received the exact same error message: "Installer database is corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer support." This appears to be a conflict between the CS4 installer database and Win 8.1. Is this a known issue? How do I resolve it? Thanks for any assistance. ~Evey

  • 'the preferences file is corrupt and has been reset to the default settings' - cs4 Mac

    greetings!
every time i start illustrator i encounter a new error.
"the preferences file is corrupt and has been reset to the default settings."
"the corrupt file will be backed up as Adobe illustrator Prefs.err"
this problem manifested after i added some more .ai and .ase files to my swatches directory. i do not believe anything else changed.
not sure how to diagnose the problem. is there a debug mode or something? perhaps an offending file.
an option would be to try remove each added swatch file or folder individually, but this would be a very very time consuming process for me.
i use cs4 on a Macbook pro  running Snow Leopard - 10.6.2 and would appreciate your advice.
    thank you
    -s

    s,
Every time you close down Illy, the current preferences (which may have been changed while you worked on files) are saved, and every time you start up Illy, those preferences will be used.
Usually, preference corruption probably occurs randomly, caused by the OS, but if something in your files change the preferences to something that is not viable you will get an error like that.
You may press Cmd+Option+Shift during startup, which will replace the current preferences with the defaults, and probably you will get rid of the error message. It is probably not a cure, though.
If the error is persistent, the cure would be to get rid of the offending things in the files you work with.

  • Error Installing Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7: Installer Database is Corrupt

Error Message: The Installer Database is Corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service.
I bought a new laptop and would like to install Dreamweaver CS4 on it. It is already running fine on my desktop, being installed back in 1/2011. Both PCs are Windows 7 but the new laptop is Windows 7 Professional.  I have downloaded the two install files ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.7z and ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.exe multiple ways and to multiple locatons on the laptop. I've run the .exe file multiple ways and extracted to several locations besides the default (c:\users\userid\Desktop\Adobe CS4). After the extract completes and it tries to run setup I get the same message "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please Contact Adobe Customer Service" (which I did and they just gave me another download link I had already tried).
I even copied the folder with the extracted files done on my desktop (where the install had succeeded). And still got the same message when I ran setup.exe on the laptop. I tried running it with a "run as administrator" command prompt, double-clicking in Windows Explorer, start > run and the same thing happens. At least it doesn't appear that it has actually installed anything yet.
I did notice that my new PC has a program called "7-zip 9.20" installed which I do not remember installing and its install date is prior to my purchase of the PC so I'm guessing it came with it (HP Pavilion 15t running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). The Windows 7 Desktop does not have this program installed. It is available from C|net where it has a good rating. Perhaps setup.exe does further extracting and the 7-zip program is the culprit? This is a long shot.
I searched for others with this problem and found lots of issues installing Dw CS4, but none quite like this.

Awesome! That worked! Actually I searched three folders (Program Files, Program Files (x86) & Program Data) for caps.db and found:
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements\caps.db (dated 9/2/2011)
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Backup\caps.db
I ignored the first one since it might be needed by the Premier Elements 10 I installed yesterday and changed the name of the other one from caps.db to barb.fix.
I changed the install folder from c:\Program Files\Adobe to c:\Program Files (x86) just in case CS4 is a 32-bit application which I had done before when installing on my Windows7 Desktop. Now that the install has completed I see that I have caps.db files dated 5/5/2014 in
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db
c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db (barb.fix is still there but is only 26kb vs 3291 kb for the new caps.db)
Thank-you so much! Now wish me luck when I try to open it for the first time!

  • Repair a Corrupt PSD (Photoshop CS4) file on a mac

I am on a Mac running 10.6.3 and using CS4.  Unfortunately I recently had a major system failure and had to wipe my drive and reinstall.  I was able to recover my data using data rescue 3, but a few of my Photoshop files won't open.  Photoshop tells me that they are not compatible with my version of photoshop, but of course, that is not true.
I assume they are corrupt and have been looking for a PSD file repair application, but can't seem to find anything for a MAC.
Anyone have any ideas?  I need the files for a client/deadline and am desperate.  After repairing my system I have no time to redo the files.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sarah
PS I have already re-installed from a freshly installed system

Corrupted files may produce any number of errors, including that they are not compatible with your version of Photoshop. They may not be compatible with any version of Photoshop now that they have been corrupted.
When you have spare time after being fired/dropped by your client, invest in a spare hard drive or two. Use at least one drive as a clone of your working system so that you have to only waste 10 minutes to switch over the next time your computer poops. You can use that clone drive or another spare drive to hold copies of your documents. Your client work should not be stored in only one place. Meet 'TimeMachine'. Apple did not include that in your OS for nothing.
    Sarah Meikle wrote:

Any sort of file recovery tool is out of the question now. You blew it when you reinstalled the system.

The problem is that you're not getting rid of the corrupt Illustrator preferences. To do that, go to User/Library/Preferences and drag the entire Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder to the trash (or to another drive if you want to keep it for some reason). Illustrator will then create a new Preferences folder the next time it's started. It's unlikely the problem was caused by swatches files, but if the error comes back after deleting prefs, then you'll need to determine which swatch file is causing it.

  • Photoshop CS4 Install Issue (corrupt file)

As someone else below had this problem, and apparently solved it, I'm reposting here because I haven't solved it, and the issue doesn't seem to be going away like it did for them.
I purchased the CS4 PS upgrade from Adobe's site.  After downloading it (using the latest non-beta firefox) I double click the EXE file (of the two it downloads) and get an error stating "A problem occured when extracting some files. Check available space and write privledges"
My drive has over 300gb free space, and I'm running as admin.
I have tried disabling UAC and turning off my AV software to no avail, re-installing and redownloading both with no UAC/AV going.  The gentleman (kfallsbob) that had this problem solved it by repeatedly downloading the software until he got a good copy.  After this revelation was made, I downloaded the trial version of the latest winzip to get to the .Z7 file and see if it was valid.  It extracts part way and gives a data error, so it appears the file is corrupted or becomes corrupted during the DL process.
I have downloaded this 7 times so far.  I'm reaching the limit of my patience.
Does anyone have a solution for this?  I submitted a request for help through the website, but apparently the case has dissapeared.  I will try calling when I get home, but I often work late.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks.
System:  Intel E6700 running vista ultimate 64 with 8gb ram

Looked through that, looks like it's for non Akamai (the DL manager) downloads since those bypass the whole internet cache and whatnot.  I tried digging up the FTP site, but looks like they host only their free apps there (go figure...) I'm hoping that they have some alternate DL method I can get to, but still haven't heard from them.  Unfortunately phone support is only around until 5pm pacific time and strangely enough, I work until 5pm pacific time...  I would love to see a company that has people around later than normal work hours for support!
    WHEEEEE!
    Edit:
Given that the regular install process and winzip both choke at about 4% through the extraction process, I'm going to call that sufficient as far as unzipping the compressed file goes.

  • I can't download my old Adobe Photoshop CS4, "The Installer Database is corrupt"

I've recently bought a new laptop and I'm trying to install my Photoshop CS4 that I purchased years ago.
I've tried both the Akamai Downloader and the files from here: Download CS4 products
Both result in an error that says "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service."
What can I do?  I spent money on this program and I have the serial number listed in my Adobe account.
    Thank you.

You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.
