DW CS4 - Local files/site def mess!

I am running dreamweaver CS4, PC with  Win7pro  OS and my sites are in a complete mess.
Sycronising keeps referring to files being in the same directory as other sites and I just want to rebuild locally.
My actual sites on the server are fine. Is there a simple way I can start a fresh set of files/folders/site def's? PLEASE

To define a fresh site from files on the server...
Site > New Site
Give the site a name (this will be the new folder everything is stored in)
Click Next
Click Next
Make sure Edit local copies on my machine is chosen
Click Next
Connect via FTP (set all of your FTP info here)
Click Next
Click Done
Now, you should have an empty folder on your Hard Drive with your current site defined as the FTP. Go to the Files tab and connect to your site.
Click the Get File(s) button
It will ask if you are sure you want to get the entire site, click OK.
Once it's all done, you will have a brand new fresh duplicate of your current online site added to your HD with no references to files you no longer have/want in your site.

  • Desktop links, folders etc appearing in DW CS4 Local Files - please help

    Hi
    I have a lot of web 'sites' in folders on my desktop which I use to test things out like forms, lightboxes etc. None of them are live. I wanted to tidy up the desktop so created a new folder with the idea of moving all the dummy sites folders into it.
    I moved one folder but when I moved the second, I got the message:
    "The root folder you have chosen is the same as the folder for site 'ContactTest'. This may cause some operations, such as synchronization, to work incorrectly. Proceed anyway?".
    As the folder I was transferring wasn't terribly important, I thought I would see what happened so ok'd it. I had a message about cache which I ok'd.  I don't remember the message.  When I tried the site, it wouldn't work so I decided to move it back out to the desktop.
    When I did this I was asked again about the cache which I ok'd.  The result is that all my desktop links, web 'site' folders etc are now showing in the dummy website folder as files and sub folders?!  If I delete the links, they are deleted from the desktop.
    I have no idea how to put everything back to the way it was.  Can anyone help me please?

    I've just replicated my steps, and the cache message I received was:
    "The cache will now be recreated because the name, root folder, HTTP address of cloaking settings of the site have been changed."
    Can anyone help me with this please?

  • Drag and drop image from local files site list to page.

    Not working on all my documents. Must be some setting. Any ideas what is wrong?

    To be honest, I never drag & drop in DW.  I always use Insert > Image, Select image source...

  • XP/DW CS4 - Delete Local Files In Site View

    Hi -  I've recently begun using a PC for webdesign at work (coming from OSX).
    When I am in "Site View" in DW CS4 and I delete a file or folder locally from my PC's HD it takes a really long time (aprox 1.5 minutes) to complete. Sometimes this actually causes DW to crash completely.
    Not to start a flame war or anything but on my Mac this feature works beautifully - DW has no problem playing nicely with the finder. Anyone know how I can resolve this other than leaving DW and going to Windows Explorer to delete local files and folders?
    Thanks!

    No. It's one of the features that was removed from CS4. Adobe

    the decision to remove it in August 2007:

  • Local Test site will not transfer files to prview in browser

    I designed a web site in DW the remote site works/views correctly, but the local testing site index page will not preview below the header in any browser with the files it need to view corrrectly.
    I am working on a mac 10.6.8 using DW 5.5. I had my local testing server working correctly viewing these files from a browser for about 1.5 year then it stopped working and stopped transfering some files from the index page.
    The activity report lists all the files that were not transferred.
    and this report;
    File activity incomplete. 2 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files updated: 2
    Files skipped: 20

    Just to clarify, you have defined a Local Testing Server in Dreamweaver.
    What are the setup details for your testing server?
    You have installed either MAMPP, XAMP or WAMP  on your computer.
    Are you sure your server is running?
    Does your index page contain valid code?

  • How can I enable links from an internet/intranet site to a local file in Firefox 4?

    I'm trying to allow links from an intranet page to a local file (e.g. "file://///server/share/file.jpg"). I found several articles and forum posts about doing this in older versions of Firefox (such as setting security.checkloaduri to false), but nothing seems to work for Firefox 4. Is there a new config option that I need to set to get this to work? Thanks.

    darren199,
    can you tell what you did to get that issue resolved ?
    I am having the same problem :
    Security Error: Content at http://intranet/group/maeva/documents may not load or link to file://///192.168.15.75/Downloads/rich.rtf.
    I created a user.js as suggested in the website (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Links_to_local_pages_don%27t_work) :
    user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
    user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "http://intranet");
    user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");
    and the file is in C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\hen5yfyq.default
    After restarting Firefox, I am still stuck with the same error.
    btw, the same links work in IE.
    Same results with file://server/share/file and file://localhost//server/share/file. I tried several URLs of this kind, but FF still stops with the same error message

  • Renamed Macintosh HD now Dreamweaver can't preview local files in Web Browser even though I have redefined local sites

    I've renamed my Macintosh HD on my Macbook something else-and
    then went in and redefined all the local sites in Dreamweaver CS3
    with the new name. Dreamweaver locates all the local files and
    allows me to edit and work on them-but then when I save and preview
    it can't locate the files. I've changed the name of my hard drive
    back to Macintosh HD and still the same problem. I'm completely
    stuck and this is frustrating the hell out of me-what do I
    do?

    If it is during the preview, check the test server
    information in the site settings.

  • When i drag and drop an image on my site. it gives the following error. "Unable to access local files due to browser security settings. To overcome this, follo"

    I am using the firefox version 17 and when i drag and drop an image on my website. It gives me the following error.
    Unable to access local files due to browser security settings. To overcome this, follow these steps: (1) Enter "about:config" in the URL field; (2) Right click and select New->Boolean; (3) Enter "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (without the quotes) as a new preference name; (4) Click OK and try loading the file again. Or go to the homepage for a link to the tutorial on how to do it.
    I have completed the above steps and it is still showing the same error message. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks kumars ,
    I have a specific drag and drop area on our website. This works fine for all earlier releases of Firefox after these security settings
    "(1) Enter "about:config" in the URL field; (2) Right click and select New->Boolean; (3) Enter "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (without the quotes) as a new preference name; (4) Click OK and try loading the file again."
    Bust these settings not work for me in Firefox 17.
    Yes the drag and drop functionality is java script based and i am not using any script blocker addons.

  • Problem with File panel and Local files

    I am having a couple of problem using Dreamweaver  (which may be related) and can’t find any appropriate help on the web site.
    I have created a small website and have it up and running.    I’m now trying to do some minor modifications.     But Dreamweaver seems to have lost the address of my local files on my home computer (although files are still there in the same place.)      In the on-line training material it shows how to define where the root directory is when you start developing a site,  but I can’t find where these setting are so I can check and if nessessary amend them.   If I go to Define Site from the Site drop down options,  this does not allow me to check or define the root directory.
    Secondly,  in the File panel (lower right on the screen) the address bar at the top only shows the remote files and the icons to the right (“put”, “get”, etc) have disappeared and I can’t seem to get them back.   Also that lower panel seems to be floating rather than being fixed like it was.     I have tried clicking on Classic View in the Workspace layout options but this doesn’t move things back to how they were when I first started using Dreamweaver (just a few weeks ago).
    Can you offer any advice on what the problem is and how to manage it?  Many thanks.   I'm  using Dreamweaver CS4 and an iMac.

    Immediately below the Tabs saying "Files" and Assets" is a small box
    with arrow on the right to show the drop down list.        In the box
    on the right there's an icon of two networked computers.  Then it
    says, "ftp://Hill farm Web Site"  which is the name of my website.
    If I click on the arrows to pull up the drop-down box,  I get four
    options divided by a line.   Above the line the options are Computer,
    HD and ftp://Hill farm Web Site.  Below the line it says manage sites.
    Below this is list of files that make up my website in a directory
    structure.   The header for the first column reads, "Local Files",
    which appears to be untrue, because the top line in the directory
    structure below reads,  "ftp://Hill farm Web Site".
    Does this help?
    regards
    David

  • BC and Dreamweaver CS4 template file extensions

    I'm building a site suing BC extension for Dreamweaver CS4, but I can't get the templates to work. If I create them in Dreamweaver with the .dwt file extension, BC doesn't recognise them when they are uploaded. If I create them in BC control panel, they get a .html file extension and Dreamweaver doesn't recognise them. This means the local files in Dreamweaver don't recognise my CSS and everything needs to be built in the BC control panel, which is painfully slow. Very frustrating. What am I doing wrong? Please tell me I don't have to add my CSS to the BC CSS!

    Hi Brad. Did that at first, but the templates didn't show up in BC. I've just altered a .dwt template in Dreamweaver and uploaded it to BC, but it didn't overwrite the one that's already there.

  • Using Local File instead of SQL Databas

    Some time ago I developed an application that could perform certain operations with the help of an SQL Database. It was just some few simple functions such as adding/removing and fetching data from the server.
    The thing is that the one that I was delivering to changed his mind and now doesnt want an SQL Server involved anymore but instead a local file. I structured the application well so I can easily change it because I have a special class handling just the SQL Connection, as good OO suggests.
    The thing that I was wondering about is if there is any magical class or package I could use.
    What I have come to so for is that I would just write the file to the drive containing the data in some effective way and then when the application starts just read the data files into the memory.
    I am thankful any help

    Check out hsql on the sourceforge site. It's a java database engine that can be used to query local files as you say. JDBC compliant, so you can just plug in a different driver. I've never used it, though, so that's all the help I'll be. :-)

    I honestly don't know if DW CS5 is compatible with Win 8.1.  The OS compatibility FAQ only mentions DW CS6 & CC.

  • How to make applet access a local file in intranet?

    I want to have my applet read from and write to a file on the user's PC. This is our company's intranet and security is not a concern so we don't want to go through the complicated certificate procedure.
    Our application server is weblogic. The jsp containing the applet can be accessed at http://10.150.20.100:7001/slfweb/jsp/Home.jsp. According to Core Java (Volume II), I put the following paragragh into java.policy file under jre/1.3.1/lib/security dir of each user's PC, hoping this will grant the permission for the applet to read/write a file in tmp dir:
    grant codeBase "10.150.20.100:7001/slfpweb/" {
    permission java.io.FilePermission "C:\\tmp\\*", "read, write";
    However, it does not work. Can someone tell me what is the simplest way to allow an applet to read/write a local file in intranet system?
    Thank you very much!
    Ming

    I guess the reason you're still running into permission problem is that you have not addressed the required settings in the browser(s) that you're using.
    On everyone's PC, the following must be done:
    1) on IE, click Tools | Internet Options | Security . Under Trusted Sites, add your server's IP address. Under Local Intranet, reset it to Medium or Low and check to see if any of the relavant settings require attention (note that a Java Applet is equivalent to an ActiveX object in IE) . Finally, go into Java Custom Settings and make the appropriate changes.
    2) on NN, to access local files, you can enable Codebase Principals by adding the following line to the user's pref.js file (look for it where NN is installed -- usually under C:\Program Files):
    user_pref("signed.applets.codebase_principal_support", true);
    I have also read Core Java and found that the authors have a way of over-simplifying everything and failure to adequately describe other factors that may potentially affect what they're describing.
    V.V.
    PS: Signing an applet with a self-signed certificate is not all that difficult. Here is a link to my file i/o applet that contains pertinent info that you might want to look into:
