DW CS5 "Design view" question

Let me start by saying I'm very new to using DW and I'm getting all my GoLive sites moved over slowly.
For some odd reason in Design View, DW CS5 (Win) displays all the text on the page in bold type - making it impossible to tell what is or is not bolded in the actual view. It's very inefficient to have to check everything in the Live View to see what's bold and what isn't that needs to be.
I've looked though all the settings and options menus I could find, but can't locate where I can fix this glitch. Help would be MOST appreciated!
THANKS.

My problem isn't with live sites, it's when I'm working on my computer with any site pages that all the text in the Design View is in bold. When I switch views to "Live View" it displays correctly.
Can you post a link to the code then if it has been something since you started?  It's possible you may have discovered some odd bug with the code on your page but unless you post a link we are just shooting in the dark and can only guess.

  • Why can't I see my text in CS5 design view?

    Since upgrading to CS5, I cannot see any text but plain text as I work in design view.  If I apply a css format to it, it disappears from view, but not from the code and shows up on the browser.  But if I can't see it, and can't select it, I can't lay it out at all.
    I have uploaded 2 different  screen grabs of a simple page with the split view so that you can also  see the code. -one is the regular design layout and then the split  in  Live View so that you can see what I mean. The text in in the code, is visible in Live View, but cannot be seen or selected in Design View. I have a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

    Is it only the <h> (heading) tags that you can't see in design view? From the screen shot it looks like you can view the <p> (paragraph) tag, right?

  • Dreamweaver CS5 Design view defaults to print style

    I created a separate style sheet for printing, and it works everywhere except one place in Dreamweaver CS5. If I open one of my pages in source code, it looks normal, and I can see where the new code is for printing ...
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/stylemain.css" media="screen, projection" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/print.css" media="print" />
    However, if I switch over to Design view, it shows up in the print style. It does not do this in Live View and it does not do this on the site itself. I'm stumped.

    After quitting and restarting Dreamweaver, the Design view functions normally again. Obviously a bug, but I don't know how to report it. I'll poke around the Adobe site.
    If the program works normally after restarting, it's unlikely to be a reproducible bug. It could be a computer memory problem or user error. However, the correct place to report bugs (and feature requests) is through the form at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.
    If you experience the same problem again, make sure that View > Style Rendering is set to Screen Media Type. You can also select the media type from the Style Rendering toolbar, which is not displayed by default. To turn it on, select View > Toolbars > Style Rendering.
    You can use the Style Rendering submenu or toolbar to check other media types, including Print. It's possible that you had Print Media Type selected by accident.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 design view background is black, how can I stop this?

    Hey everybody! I have a problem with Dreamweaver CS5's design view only showing a black background. I can create a brand new html document either as a standalone file or as part of a site and it will show a completely black background wheather it's saved or not. This also is a problem with pages that I have already created and with pages created with a Dreamweaver pre-installed template. I can't see anything unless it's not black. It is not affected by background colors either, in fact background colors don't show on anything I make; it's all black! The strange fact about this is that any given page will display just fine in Live View or in any web browser. Thanks in advance, I really need the help on this because I need to use the design view to position elements (which is a lot easier to do than guessing what would look best in code view).

    Have you sorted this problem?
    I have changes from Dreamweaver CS5 to CC and it appears all my existing files have a black background in design mode but when I switch to "live" view it looks like it should and does on the net.
    New files tend to look as they should. Although this change to CC is very recent. It seems like a configuration / preference issue that I can't find an answer for.
    I have a work around at the moment.
    Select view in menu -> visual aids -> CSS layout backgrounds
    This makes all the CSS areas different colours, but you can see black text and items.
    Selecting "LIVE" allows you to see what it is actually like.

  • CS5 Design View

    Can anybody explain why so many elements that were displaying fine in CS4 now dissapear in CS5. For example h tags and Spry accordions?

    Hi Murray
    These are the elements that do not display in Design view but will in Live View.
    On the main accordion menu it's the h5 Tags:
    <div class="AccordionPanel">
              <div class="AccordionPanelTab style1">
                <h5>INDEX (close tabs)</h5>
              </div>
    The h5 and h2 Tags within:
    <div id="mainContent">
        <div id="Audiology">
    <h5>Consultants by speciality</h5>
          <h2>Audiology</h2>
    The strong Tag in Accordion2
    <div id="Accordion2" class="Accordion">
              <div class="AccordionPanel">
                <div class="AccordionPanelTab">
                <strong>Click consultants tab for clinic details/profile</strong></div>
    It seems that the h Tags and strong Tag are a problem is this correct?

  • Design View question

    Good evening,
    I'm working on a site using a Dreamweaver template and for
    some reason my "Design View" shows up only like you'll see in the
    top image on this page:
    http://community.middlebury.edu/~nmeiers/question.htm
    I want the pages to appear like the template I put on the
    bottom so I can see the design. It used to look like that and I
    don't know what I changed. Any ideas?
    (Yeah, I know Design View isn't ideal, but I'm not very good
    at this and I like seeing the graphics.)
    Thank you,
    Nick

    Looks like for the top image the style sheet isn't attached.

  • CS5 Design View: local page + images on server - images don't display

    I've recently upgraded to DW CS5. I sometimes have occasion to design pages containing images that are on the server.
    In DW8, images on the server would display in Design View.
    In DW CS5, images on the server display a broken image icon in Design View.
    Yes, I know I can switch to Live View, but I'd rather not, as I find Live View very difficult to edit in (if at all; I can somewhat edit in the code, but what's the point?). I'd far rather be able to see the images as I'm writing the page in Design View.
    Am I missing some setting somewhere, or is this the way it is?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Diane Vigil wrote:
    I found it under View > Display External Files.
    Thanks so much for this. Really appreciated.
    Used to be under the Commands menu long ago. Obviously relocated to the View menu.
    That means that Adobe's own online Help docs for CS5 are incorrect.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f693f21-7cc1a .html
    Note: When inserting images it’s also possible to use an absolute path to an image that resides on a remote server (i.e., an image that is not available on the local hard drive). If you experience performance problems while working, however, you might want to disable viewing the image in Design view by deselecting Commands > Display External Files.

  • Layout / Design View questions

    This is the sort of thing I've wondered about before, but
    would really like to get to the bottom of.
    Sometimes things seem to go a bit funny in design view -
    although the page will display correctly in a browser - but can
    anyone let me know if there is something not quite right somewhere,
    or if it actually really matters?
    As an example, I've posted some screenshots on the link
    below. The only difference is that the 'footer' div has been added
    to the second page. They're both fine in the browser, but as you
    can see from the screenshots, the first is fine in design view, but
    the second (the bottom two screenshots) it all looks wrong.
    Basically is this anything to worry about?
    Even if it isn't, it is a bit annoying, as from a design POV
    it's good to see things as they should be!

    My second question is about TD widths - in these pages I have
    a wrapper div set at 780px, and in the table containing the
    navigation, they navigation buttons/graphics seem to need to be one
    px narrower than they actually are (54 instead of 55px etc) in
    order for them to line up to the total 780px, as per the screenshot
    below :

    If anyone could shed any light on any of this it would be
    greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

    No its nothing to worry about.
    I don't know what version of DW you are using but all
    versions up to
    2004 didn't handle css that well.
    I believe DW8 has improved. However having said that I have
    found a lot
    of the time that it also has a lot to do with how you write
    the css. I
    can't believe version 8 can possible cover all eventualities
    so it
    probably still shows the odd thing or two incorrectly.
    Personally I never had much trouble with DW04. It works
    pretty well with
    the css I write.

    Yeah it does get a bit annoying but you have to work through
    it.

    I don't think this web thing is totally precise and sometimes
    you have
    to 'hack' it to do the job. Usually if thing are a px out I
    don't bother
    unless it screws the design up in too mmnay browsers.

  • CS4 / CS5 design premium questions

    Hello,
    In regards to both CS4 and CS5 Design Premium packages, are there any other programs that install a 64-bit edition?
    When CS4 was installed at our location, only Photoshop had a 64-bit version.All other programs had a 32-bit version only.
    The  computers that we have are Windows 7 64-bit, and our staff members  would like to use more than 3GB of memory on all the programs.
    Are  there 64-bit versions of the rest of the CS4 programs available? If  not, do all the programs in CS5 include a 64-bit version?
    Please let me know. Thank you.

  • Flash Builder 4.7 and design view question

    I have programmed a large, commercial level mobile application using Flash Builder 4.6. It is working GREAT when ran on both iOS and Android devices.
    I was using the trial version of Flash Builder 4.6 to develop this application. I used the states feature that FB has built in to handle Portrait, Landscape, and Phone / Tablet configs. This means that I built 4 different layouts for all 8 of my views in my mobile application. Using the design view in FB 4.6 was what allowed me to do this.
    I have to say that I LOVE Flash Builder so far. GREAT tool.
    My trial ended just last week. I had to purchase version 4.7 of the software, only to find out that they REMOVED the design view from the software.
    All complaining aside, what have other programmers who are in the same boat as me done as a solution? I would like to continue to program in AS and Flash Builder as I have taken the time to write the application and learn the whole platform.
    As it stands now, I am in the process of downgrading my liscence keys from 4.7 to 4.6, but in order to do this I had to RETURN my retail version of FB 4.7 premium (bought online) and buy a volume liscening version (NOT through adobe, only allowed to do this through a reseller such as CDW). then once I have a key for 4.7 through volume liscencing, it can be downgraded to 4.6.
    I'm hoping to get input from others in the same boat. Did you change Programming languages? if so, to what? Did you change IDE's? If so, to what?

    Joe -
         I actually never completed the downgrade to 4.6 so I've been using 4.7 without the design view.    In 4.6, I would put a control on the view within design view.  Then I would change each state, move it around, and it would be placed that way.  In my case, each view has 4 states - portraitPhone, landscapePhone, portraitTablet, and landscapeTablet.   I had to do this 4 times for each control under 4.6
         So I went back and looked at my code in 4.7 and all the resulting code was these explicit x, y, height, and width values.  See the code below:
    <s:states> <s:State name="portraitPhone" stateGroups="phone,portrait"

      So instead of continuing to try and modify these values by hand, then run the program, using trial and error, I took a different tact.   I removed ALL x y height and width values.  Then, I wrapped all the mxml code in either <s:HGroup or <s:Vghroup tags depending on what I wanted.  Then I would just set the vertical and horizontal align on these groups.  This allows everything to scale correctly based on the size of the view (each device really is a little different).   Finally,  I hand entered things like font sizes by using State Groups like this:   fontSize.phone="12"  fontSize.tablet="22".    It still took testing on the screen to see how my layouts worked but it just makes the UI so much easier to change around and works so much better with out all the static stuff in it.
    If you have some time , I would suggest taking one of your 4.6 views that has all these static variables and trying to modify it to work like I said above.    My modified code (to do the same thing as above) is below:
    <s:states> <s:State name="portraitPhone" stateGroups="phone,portrait"

     <s:State name="landscapePhone" stateGroups="phone,landscape"/>

  • CS2 Standard Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question

    I've never upgraded from CS2 Standard to CS5 Design Premium because I'd heard that if I do upgrade, I won't be able to open and edit my CS2 docs in CS5. That's a huge problem, because I have years of work docs created in CS2 (in all components: InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator). Is this a myth and if not, has that "bug" (in my opinion) been straightened out? I don't want to spend the $$ if it's going to cause me a production nightmare. Thanks for any insight!

    You heard wrong. There are no CS5 apps that cannot open files created in earlier versions.
    That said, going the other way will be a problem for some apps such as InDesign.
    You can get the CS2 Design Standard to CS5 Design Premium upgrade at Amazon for $763 with free shipping: http://amzn.to/bVMlqi
    That will save you a few buck over the Adobe list price.

  • CS5 design view blank

    I've been searching for the answer, nothing is helping.
    Yesterday I tried to open a website made for my class (linked to a template I believe) and design view suddenly showed up blank, also in split view. Code grayed out. Preview in browser and live view showing. I need design view to edit things like editable region and - for an entirely different project - tables. I'm an amateur and I don't know what I did. Clicked on something bad by complete mistake?
    Any advice would be much appreciated, it's urgent. :/

    I have a similar issue. Whenever I look at a page with php in it, the design view is completely absent. Additionally, the "Design View" and ""Live Code" buttons aregreyed out.

  • DW CS5  "Design View" Problem

    I've recently migrated to Dreamweaver CS5 on a new Intel Mac from Dreamweaver CS4 on a G5.
    I installed Dreamweaver CS5 for the first time on the new computer and copied my local site folders over from the G5.
    I did not initially copy the site definitions file from the G5, or any of DW CS4's preferences.
    When I opened one of my sites in DW CS5 on the new box, I noticed the html file could only be viewed in 'code view'- the 'split' snd 'design' buttons were grayed out, and the menu items in the "View" menu- 'view' and 'code and design'- were also grayed out and could not be selected...
    I thought "that's strange.."
    So to troubleshoot- first, I tried managing the sites properly in CS5 by going to the "Manage Sites.." menu item in the "Site" menu and defining those site folders on the new computer.
    That worked fine but didn't cure the problem, so I copied over from the G5 all the DW CS4 prefs I could find, and the DW CS4 site def file, placing all those items in their appropriate locations on the Intel box. That didn't cure it either, so now I'm wondering- when I created those sites originally on the G5 with DW CS4, did I limit their forward compatibility by choosing to format in a particular flavor of html?

    When I opened one of my sites in DW CS5 on the new box, I noticed the html file could only be viewed in 'code view'- the 'split' snd 'design' buttons were grayed out, and the menu items in the "View" menu- 'view' and 'code and design'- were also grayed out and could not be selected...
    The usual reason is that you've got that file extension (e.g. .html) listed under:
    Edit > Preferences > File Types / Editors > Open in Code View (based on its behavior, that should be labelled "Open only in Code View")
    If that's the case, removing the file extension from the list usually fixes it.

  • Unable to view page content in Design View

    I cannot see the content of a page made from a template in normal Design view.
    I am able to see the content in Live View mode, but cannot make changes in that view. I can only make changes in code view.
    My client would like to make changes to content text in Design view only.
    Why am I unable to see/edit in Design view?
    Two screencaps and the page code are here:
    http://compassdm.com/GM/
    I am using CS4 DW on Macbook Pro, Leopard.
    The template is based on the standard included thrColAbsHdr layout template provided with DW.
    Thank you for help.

    There are two questions for the Spry Menu 2 version.
    1)  Do I have to make all menu title and link changes in code?  With the regular Spry menu that comes with DW CS5 you can make the changes, and add links to menu items, in the "Design > Properties" window.  I would sure like to be able to do that, rather than go to the strictly "code" view and work in there.
    2)  With the Spry 2 menu at the top ( see www.Aloe-Vera.org/test.htm ) I am unable to go into "Design" view for the page to make changes in the content of the page itself.
    Are there any fixes so that I can view and edit the rest of the page in DW CS5 "Design" view?
    Thanks, David
    1.  It is true you cannot use the Properties window.  You can use the code view or the Widget Browser to make edits.  The Widget Browser has a GUI if you feel more comfortable with that.
    2.  You should be able to make some changes in Design View, but unfortunately the GUI and clean layout in Design View is gone.  Best suggestion I can give you here is to file a bug report/feature request: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform .  I have before with this because I agree it helps newer users and compared to commercial alternatives like those from Project Seven it falls short everytime.

  • Design View - problems, but does it matter?

    Another design view question - I've looked through other
    posts but not seen anything that's similar.
    (Firstly, can't give a URL as I'm sensibly(?) doing a site
    redesign offline...)
    I've got a page that consists of three columns - each floated
    left, each with nested divs (the nested divs are fixed width).
    In design view, everything was fine with this structure - as
    was preview in browser, and the page validates with DWCS3's
    checker. But adding content to the first of the columns (within a
    nested div) made the next two columns drop below the first in
    design view - although DWCS3 validation and previewing is still
    fine.
    Through judicious deleting etc., I've found that it was a
    floated element in a nested div within the first column, that
    caused the subsequent elements to drop below the first column.
    So my main question is - should I be worried by the design
    view problems, or is It just an inconvenience?
    (And if there's any other obvious problems I'm inviting by
    structuring the page this way, please feel free to (gently) point
    it out...!).
    Thanks, Matt.

    Yes. I'd say more, but I cannot see your page.
