DW CS5 to CS6 Upgrade Frustration

Geez- I must not have been paying attention.  I have DW CS5 (not 5.5) and want to upgrade to CS6.  I was hoping I could find a box in the online store, put it in my cart, pay for it and run to my front door in a couple of days to pick it up off of my porch.
All I can find is downloadable upgrade to the CC version.  I want to work right within my comfy PC.  Can't I just upgrade from one desktop version to the next desktop version?
Thanks, - Dave

Can't I just upgrade from one desktop version to the next desktop version?
Not any more. Adobe changed the landscape radically when they went subscription only with the Cloud (version CC).
Note that the only Cloud part about the CC version is the licensing. When you subscribe, you still download the software to your PC and run it locally just as you've always done. Any files you create, you can store locally (and online if you wish but that's optional).
The only difference to perpetual licenses is that instead of a big payment upfront, you pay a monthly fee every month as long as you want to use the software. When you stop paying, the software stops working.
In addition, Adobe has stopped shipping boxes to doorsteps. It's download only now.
For those who don't want to subscribe, Adobe still sells CS6.

  • CS5 to CS6 upgrade and creative cloud pricing

I dont understand adobe's logic with pricing of upgrades compared to the cloud.
I bought the cs5 master collection upgrade from a single suit at least in part because I assumed each subsequent upgrade would be about $800.  I skipped cs5.5 because it
    a) it was priced as a whole version number upgrade
    b) my core apps werent updated.
Now I come to upgrade to CS6 and find that I have to pay again for a single suit upgrade. There is no upgrade path from CS5 master to CS6 master.  That is a rip off to start.
I also find that even paying the full price on yearly contract its far cheaper to go with the cloud over the expected lifetime of the product: over 2 years its $1200.  The upgrade path I have available is around $1500.
How does that make the upgrade viable?
And finally having to post this here because there is no formal route to contact adobe sales via email. If anyone can provide one i'd be obliged.

I have had Adobe software for a long long time, and I decided to drop my perpetual licenses for the Creative Cloud. I upgrade every version anyway (more or less) so it's not a big deal for me price wise.
I also use more than just the Production suite software (Acrobat and Dreamweaver) so Creative Cloud sort of consolidates all of that.
My current experience is...the Creative Cloud is a work in progress. There are still features that aren't there yet, like the Creative Cloud desktop app, and some other functionality that's all coming sometime later this summer or this year. The online storage is nice. The website hosting is nice too (although I haven't quite got it working yet).
I do have access to other programs I didn't have before like InDesign and Fireworks, so I've found those interesting to toy around with. Over the years I'd occasionally get an InDesign layout from someone and be unable to do anything with it, so that does solve a rare problem for me as well.
I'd say if you qualify for the discount pricing (which means you're either a student/teacher/edu subscriber, or own an existing CS3, CS4 or CS5 suite) then the $29/month is awesome. Just do it. If you're looking at the $49/month price, maybe not so much.
If you are only an infrequent creative type and only do video/image/print projects occasionally, go with the month-to-month plan and you don't have to worry about getting stuck on the long term, and you only pay for the software whenever you need it.

  • Premiere CS5 to CS6 upgrade~ Crashed multicam-  HELP!!

I have used PPro CS5 for a while with no problems.  Recently bought Production Premium CS6.
It has the upgrade to Premiere CS6.
    I did not uninstall CS5.
I kept CS5 because I have a project to finish in CS5.  I tried to open the old project in CS6, but there are some filters, etc missing.
I need to finish the old project in CS5 and then I can uninstall it.
Now Multicam won't work in CS5 OR CS6 and I'm stuck not being able to finish my project!!
Can I not have them both installed at once, because the multicam interface is different in CS5 and CS6? Are they conflicting??
Is there a way to uninstall CS6 until I finish my CS5 project?
    Thank you!!

Ask for specifics in the PPro forum. In so many words: What do I know about multicam? I suspect installing CS6 has simply updated the CoDecs and one of your footages now behaves differently. If so, uninstalling CS6 and possibly running a repair /re-) install of CS5 should fix that.

  • Do I install both CS5 and CS6 upgrade or just CS6?

PC fried by lightning. My CS5 was updated with CS6 upgrade. Must I install both or can I only install CS6?
    Thanks
    Callie

You should only need to install CS6.  As part of the activation process after your CS6 serial number is accepted you will be asked to identify the qualifying version (CS5) and enter its serial number

  • CS5.5/CS6 upgrade

After I install CS6 can I transfer CS5.5 to my daughter?

Not really. CS6 is an upgrade to your CS5.5 and upgrades are supposed to used under the same conditions as the original qualifying product. Of course you can install CS6 on a second machine at any time as long as you don't use them at the same time. And Adobe may not even technically prevent you from re-using your CS5.5 on two additional machines, but it's definitely not how things are meant to be, even if they may tolerate this, if it is kept within the family. Just don't be foolish and give your CS5.5 away, if your daughter lives elsewhere - for the aforemntioned reasons, you are gonna need the serial number to activate your CS6.

  • Is CS6 Upgrade supposed to install over CS5?

The other night I installed an upgrade of CS6 on my mac. Being an upgrade, I assumed it would install over my version of CS5, but it did not. So now I have CS5 and CS6 upgrade on my mac. Do I simply uninstall the old CS5? Or do I reinstall the CS6 again hoping it will install over the CS5?    Also, I installed Lightroom 4 on my mac - it did install over Lightroom 3.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I'll not drag to the  trash!

When can download CS6 upgrade version

  • Bought CS5.5 through Adobe Education but still no CS6 upgrade

Has anyone else had the following problem:
Bought the student/teacher version of CS5.5 during the complimentary upgrade timeframe (April 13th or 14th) from Adobe.com. I have yet to reveive the CS6 upgrade email (now being June 1st) and there are less then 5 days left on the trial CS6. Numerous support cases and chats have simply responded that I am approved but wait for the email. I have just recently been advised after speaking with someone, that I haven't received the upgrade email because it is being blocked by identit-e despite the fact that the proof of enrolement was provided directly through adobe.com and my profile indicates that the student/teacher eligibility runs until October 2012. I was asked by the live person at Adobe to just email the proof to identit-e and that the upgrade email will then be sent. That was done and I still have not heard anything from identit-e and there is no way to check anything with them without a product code (which I do not have since it was a digital download). This is extremely frustrating and a poor way of doing business. I do not know when or if this will ever be resolved. There was never any intention to buy CS5.5 but for the complimentary offer that was made to get CS6 as well - we really would have just waited and bought CS6 when it was released were it not for the offer. Now nerarly a month after CS6 has shipped our trial version is about to expire and we will no longer be able to use CS6. I don't know what else can be done or whether others have worked through this strange experience?

This is the most bizarre business practice I have ever encountered. So now as of June 1, the free upgrade to CS6 is showing up under "My Orders" in Adobe.com, but there is no serial number and the download link leads to a page that says I have no downloads. I just got off the phone with customer service who said there is a "block" and that he would speak to another department to remove the block. After being on hold for a few minutes, he advised that the other department could not be reached as they were all taking calls so I wiould hear back in 24-48hours (business hours, meaning I will probably not hear back until at least Tuesday) advising me that the block is removed and that it would take a further 7 days before the download link became available. So now there is approximately 4 days left on the trial, I will get an email approx. 5 days from now advising that the block has been removed and then a further 7 days before I can access the serial number. Is this normal for Adobe? I have never encountered anything like this ever, from any organization, large or small. I certainly wish we never ordered CS5.5.

  • Bought CS5.5 and was promised free CS6 upgrade. WITH NO LUCK

Bought CS5.5 and was promised free CS6 upgrade. Tried once before (actually talking to someone on phone) with no success. My work is crazy May through December so just tried to get upgrade again and was denied.
THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO THEM:
Been using your products for over 10 years. Love the products and will continue to use them. But this is absurd and makes me extremely pissed. I purchased the package thinking I was going to get a free upgrade and was never informed of upgrade deadline at time of purchase. Furthermore I called Adobe once before (right around the release of cs6) and was told the update would take sometime. I don't know what Adobe thinks they will gain by pissing off a loyal customer. I have always thought it was best to obtain products legally by paying for them. Whatever. For now on when talking about how great Adobe products are there will always be a footnote of frustration attached to it.

Please contact me with a private message with your contact information and I'll try to work the system for you.

There are no upgrades for student editions. You simply buy a fresh license at the discounted price.
