DW: "Halo Left Nav" template

I am trying to create more space between the top margin (for
my header graphic) and the Nav. bar with pop-up/down sub-links.
Problem is that when I shifted everything downwards, the pop-up
subglobal navs don't stay open as well when I try to hover the
mouse over them. I've spent hours trying to figure out how to fix
this. Can anyone help? I've uploaded what I've done so far.

Is this something that has to be fixed with CSS or the Java
Script? Either way I am very confused about this. I've attached the
CSS code.

Help with halo left nav

Hello Everyone,
This is my first time posting something on the macromedia
forum. I was looking to create a personal website, and first used
(laugh ) frontpage, but then switched to dreamweaver. I like the
"Halo Left Nav" template, yet need help. And yes, I am a
dreamweaver noob.
1) On the top, how do you change the links for the global
links and the submenu links.
2) How do I make it so the top stays there the whole time,
but only the bottom part changes. I know you must use frames, but
is there a specific way to do it.

As a DW noob, I caution you that the HALO templates will be
quite
frustrating for you. They are really intended either as -
* learning tools, or
* page templates for those familiar and comfortable with HTML
and CSS and
javascript
If you are trying to build something to actually put on the
web, I would
suggest that you consider starting a bit lower on the totem
pole! 8)

Template Halo Left Nav

Hi,
I am encountering problems using the Halo Left Nav and I
don't know what I am doing wrong. Whenever I try to replace the
Capsule Story text (below the Capsule Story heading, so let´s
say the ´content´), when I am replacing the text in the
last cell, the design changes (the left column or the right column
changes and becomes bigger than the left or right one). What is the
problem here and how can I solve this? Help!

Just tell me first -
How comfortable are you with HTML, javascript, and CSS. If
the answer to
any of those is "not very" then you are definitely on thin
ice here. The
Halo templates are fiddly, and arcane in their approach, and
really should
be removed from the product.

IE display prob with Halo Left Nav CSS

I used "Halo Left Nav" stylesheet building my site. The
problem is that in long lists only in Windows IE a blank area
appears at the top of the content div. Incidentally it drops
exactly to the end of one of the divs in the page nav area. It's
only indirectly related to the size of the content area.
Sample

It's not strictly amount of html but appears to be
interaction between div tags and content.
My mail if anybody has
encountered this before and knows.

The HALO templates suck lots of unsuspecting users in just
like the pop-up
menus. If you are not pretty comfortable with HTML and CSS
and javacsript
you will struggle with these. How do you fare there?

New Page CSS - Halo Left Nav

I am creating a new page using DW's built-in page designs.
The page that I am working with is the Halo Left Nav - which some
with the CSS and other files.
I created a menu in flash that want to use throughout my
site. I also want to use the template menu. When I insert the flash
menu at the top of the page and move the MastHead down below 52px,
the global links bring up the subglobal links for an instance and
then it loses focus. If I move the masthead up then it goes back to
working fine.
The problem is that I want the flash to be at 0px Top and the
masthead section at 53px top since the flash is 52px in length.
If I drag and drop the Masthead down then it automatically
writes to the CSS the new px locations.
I'm sure it is something simple. Please help.

Test server is down at the moment. I am attaching the HTML
and CSS. When I mouseover the Global Links the first time the
sublinks stay with focus until the mouse is moved. After the first
time, I mouseover the Global Links, the submenu almost does a type
of a blink on the screen and then it is gone.

How are the Section Links activated in the CSS-Page
Design-Halo, Left Nav. Should the Section Links be drop down menus,
or are they simply to be used as hyperlinks?

The HALO templates not the best choice for anyone, really.
They are fiddly,
and awkward.
How comfortable are you with HTML, CSS, and javascript?

Firefox / Google - After initial search return the "Images" option does not show on left nav area

It used to work! Having made NO changes to my system / software but now, suddenly, when I type a search term in Google, I no longer get the option to show just "Images"only link on the left nav with the rest of the options like: View Videos, Books, Blogs etc. Nor the option to select what minimum size image I want to see. Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
* "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
* "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Dreamweaver two column left nav

I am starting a new site. I am pretty familiar with web site
construction and many css features.
I have created a few pages using the sample css html pages
supplied with dreamweaver. I selected a site named "two columns
left nav".
I checked it out pretty thoroughly using a color code system
to identify the varies features. My main concern is to be able to
create a site that will fit most resolutions available. I tried it
out and it does expand and contract. I tried it on my 24 inch
monitor, my little laptop and a 21 inch Macintosh.
No problem with dreamweaver but there is a problem with me.
I can't seem to come up with a scheme in the header that will
expand and contract. I would like to use graphics. Is there any
instructions available to make these graphics get larger or smaller
so they will conform to different size monitors, resolutions etc?
Once I master this I will get started on my new site.

You can't expand and contract images. You can set a
background image
and have it repeat as necessary as long as the image will
tile correctly.

IPhone 4 (verizon) not syncing. After back-up, it stops and disappears from left nav

every time I connect my iPhone to my MacBook, iTunes verifies it then starts step 1 (of 4), the back-up then stops and disappears from left nav. I have iTunes 10.4.1

Today I tried my iphone on an other window XP computer (a computer where no itunes was installed in de past). And I made another account for itunes on that computer after installing itunes. The connection was perfect and my iphone could syncing with itunes, no problemes at all. After that I tried my iphone on my own computer with the new account for itunes, but there was the same crash and restart as in the past (problems in sector one of the harddisk?). Now I'm sure for 100% that there is a computer problem and not an iphone problem, caused by interrupting the syncing procedure by myself through using the iphone. I hope the problem can be solved in the near future, cause I can imagine that I'm not the only one who tried to do this.

Dynamic left navs

Hello,
I would like to define several standard left navs for a page group. When a page is added to the pg it should specify which left nav to use via a custom attribute. My different leftnavs are idependent navigation pages. How do I dynamically select the correct nav page when publishing the left nav?
Also I would like to establish a library of common html strings as items, to be reused in other places. Can an item reference another item and work like an include?

You can directly write a string in action like ::

where myaction can be mapped to anything in your navigation rules in faces-config
But you cannot do something like this ::
<h:commandButton value="Submit" action="#{sampleMB.strMyAction}"></h:commandButton>
where strMyAction is actually a String variable. It gives an error like "Expression must be a method expression but is a value"
See I am reading all the attributes associated with the commandButton form an xml file. So which action to invoke is also there in the xml. Now all these values including the action can be put in the String variables. The problem is how to invoke the method represented by that action String litral.

Left Nav Page Height

Hi, just a quick one (I hope). How can I make my left nav continue to the bottom of the page so it's inline with any main content.

Depending on the container for your document, place a repeating background image into your style rules.
For example, my container is simply the body and this is what I would have for the background image
html {
    color: #3A4084;
body {
    width: 1000px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    background: url(images/main_bg.jpg) repeat-x;
This will place the body in the centre (margin left and right of auto) of your document. It has a width of 1000px and has a background image called main_bg.jpg. The height of the body is detrmined by its contents.

Icons in the left nav shift to the left

Hello everyone,
Is there a way to prevent the first tier icons in the left
navigation (TOC) to prevent shifting to the left when we click on
the second tier of icons? The user has to use the horizontal scroll
bar to move the left nav pane to the left to view the first tier
again. Thank you.

Not that I know of in the way you describe. However could you
make the pane wider to stop that? If so visit www.robowizard.com
and download the Tips and Tricks file. I believe that is described
in there if your output is a CHM file.

Experience Manager doesn't show left nav to browse the pages/content collection

Hi,
We are using Endeca Experience Manager with ATG 11.0. We have created application and triggered baseline update successfully, all the steps are successful.
When we open Experience Manager it doesn't show the pages/content which will create by default with Discovery data/pages.
Please help us on this.

How to present content without showing the item in left nav bar?

Here's the scenario -
I have a single role. A user logs in and gets their content accordingly. The default content in the main display area is whatever the first item in the role is (e.g. IView A). Under that are various folders, iviews, etc.
How can I make the content from IView A appear, but not actually show the title of IView A in the left hand nav bar?

Here is what you can do (left navigation is called detailed navigation)
       1.      From the Page Content List of the Default Framework Page, select Desktop Innerpage and click Open.
       2.      From the Page Content List of the Desktop Innerpage select the Detailed Navigation iView and click Properties.
       3.      Scroll to the Start at Level property and assign a value that is one higher than the value of the Number of Display Levels property in procedure l. Configure Top-Level Navigation. For example, if top-level navigation is configured for one level, the detailed navigation begins on the second level, that is with the value 2.
       4.      Click Save.
Detailed navigation is not automatically synchronized with top-level navigation; the values you enter for top-level and detailed navigation must agree. For example, if you enter the value 1 for top-level navigation, while detailed navigation still has the value 3, one level is left out, creating a gap.

WebHelp not displaying content in left nav pane

Any suggestions for why WebHelp is not displaying contents in
the left navigation pane? When Help is called, it displays the
frame (including buttons such as glossary, search, contents, etc)
and the work area, but does not show the TOC in the left navigation
pane.
I have also tried generating FlashHelp, with the same
results. This time, only the work area displays. Any suggestions to
fix this?
This is a new project, where RoboHelp is being deployed for
the first time. Any suggestions for making this a simpler
transition would be much appreciated. I have used RoboHelp for many
years with a different company and do not recall ever running into
this many problems.

Sorry, I haven't used the CSH method which, by the way, was
designed to show only the topic at first, I think.
I give my developers a list of path/filenames for topics, and
they use this form:
.../helpdirectory/myproject.htm#targettopic.htm
There are some shortcomings to this method, which leaves the
window open and, when you call another topic, another new window
opens. In other words, you have to close the help window manually
to avoid windowmania.
A solution is a little js that checks to see if a window is
already open, closes it and opens a new one. (If no help window is
open, it's a harmless js error.) It's fast enough that you wouldn't
notice.
The downside here is losing the browser history. Forward and
back buttons work only so long as the help window stays open.
In my opinion, this is not a major concern, since many Web
based applications these days tell users not to use the back
button. Production users won't mind so much.
For ordinary people doing e-shopping and online banking, the
browser back button is anathema.
The bottom line is, if you have a decent set of navigating
options built into the design -- TOCs, left or right rail lists,
useful links at top and/or bottom of the topic page, the back
button can become superfluous.
Browe sequences work fine from any point in the lineup (I
know, it's not the same as browser history -- unless you give them
a really useful set of sequences).
The forever-loading left pane is gone in RH 7.
