DW MX 2004  freezes

As the title says, if dreamweaver is open and i copy a file
(ie: 25 KB html page) from my local site to remote site (both on
local network) outside DreamWeaver (in Windows Explorer), then it
freezes up DreamWeaver and Windows explorer. It usually comes backs
after 1 minute ... but if I close Dreamweaver and try to copy
again, it takes less than a second! Dreamweaver is obviously
slowing the process but I dont know why - any ideas?

  • Since installing Snow Leopard 10.6.8 I can't print checks on Quicken 2006.  I also discovered that  my M.S. Word 2004 freezes and won't work when I try to "save as".

Since installation of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 a week ago, I have not been able to print checks on Quicken 2006.
Now I find that Word 2004 will not "save as" and freezes.
    Any help?

Unfortuantely you are victim of bad timing.  Apple did release a followup security update that fixes those issues. You can download it from:

  • DW & FW 2004 Freeze after reinstall on Mac

The other day, I had to reformat my Mac and reinstall all
major software. However, I am unable to get DW or any of its
associated apps to run. When I try to reinstall DW Studio 2004, the
installer encounters an error and can't go on. When I try a second
time, all of the packages appear to be installed and I get a
message stating that the installation completed successfully.
However, when I try to start any of the apps, the dock icon bounces
a few times and then the app stops responding and I must "force
quit". I tried deleting all of the DW folders and then pulled them
in from my backup disk image that was created the day of the
reformat of the drive, but got the same result, when I tried to run
any of the apps. I also pulled in preference files and pplication
support files from backup and still get the same freeze.
    Any ideas???

  • MS Word 2004 freezes up under Snow Leopard

Use Office 2004 extensively, recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on iMac. Entourage seems fine, Excel has frozen up only once, but Word is freezing up regularly. First time it froze I let it alone for about 10 minutes and it found itself; today I tried that again but no change after 30 minutes. Currently using Pages and/or using RemoteDesktop to Win XP & Office 2003 to get my work done.
Need help... I want to work on Mac using MS-Word 2004.

Rosetta is installed and the other Office 2004 are running to an expectable level.
iWork is my preferred software and I use it whenever I'm working on something for me or I just need a finished product. However, a lot of my work is done in a collaborative manner and I need to work in MS-Office in order to guarantee seamless collaboration; (iWork is WYSIWUG and Office is WYSIAWUG ...what you see is 'almost' what you get...).
...So back to my problem with Word 2004....

  • Word - (Office 2004 )freezing

Office 2004 (fully patched) on Leopard 10.5.5 (fully patched)
In Word clicking File - Open causes the BBOD and freezes Word. Eventually a window opens but it's the Finder window with empty columns that go off each side to infinity (you can drag the window left or right and all it's just empty column after column). The same thing happens if I go to Word Preferences and click Documents/File Locations - Modify. I went to the Library and ditched the Word pref file but that didn't solve the issue. If I open a document any other way it works fine but somehow the location (or lack thereof?) is causing Word to crash.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks, Jim

Since your question is about Microsoft Word, you will probably have better luck going to their forum instead of here.

  • Word freezing constantly

I am running Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac and Word is freezing many times a day. Every time I try to open a document it will freeze on me. I have a macbook 2.16 GHz 2GB running Leopard. Anyone else having problems with Word in Leopard?

I too, have had the Word 2004 freeze problem with Leopard 10.5.2 as also has a friend with an iMac. It seems to be a bug in Spaces execution. Having designated a home space for Word I found that if I drag several Word docs to another space some of them freeze while others are Okay.
Until Apple comes up with a fix for this Spaces problem, best solution is to quit Spaces altogether if you want to use Word.
I never had this problem with Desktop Manager.

  • OSX keeps on freezing and forcing me to restart!!!

It has happened to me four times today, three times within the past 5 hours. I am getting tired of it. The last time, I was typing in Word. It was the only application open. Moments before, my mouse started to drag and freeze along with my keyboard, then the gray drop down screen.
I am still having the problem with the dragging mouse and the freezing keyboard/mouse.
I want to know how to fix this because I cannot just drive to an apple store to get it checked out.

  • Fans and thermostats in the IBook G4

My IBook G4 (2004) freezes after about 10 minutes of operation. A computer repair person diagnosed it as a faulty CPU cooling fan, but didn´t have a replacement fan to put in for me. I cracked open the back of the computer and watched the fan go on during start up, but then it never came on again and the computer froze, like it typically does now. So, my question is whether these things also have thermostats or some sort of signaling device that tells the fan to go on when the unit gets too hot. If I replace the fan, am I replacing the thermostat, too, or is it a separate part? Has anyone been through this process? I´m currently living on a boat off the coast of Mexico and having a very hard time getting Mac parts, so if the fan isn´t what I really need, I´d love to know.
    Thanks,
    Amanda Witherell

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
My experience has been that the iBook has to be very warm for the fan to run at all, so I actually don't think that the fan or sensor is the problem.
Based on my own first hand experience, I think you may be experiencing a soldering failure which affects something called the U28 chip. My iBook did exactly the same thing--it would freeze after about 10 minutes. If I made an effort to keep it cooler, I could get more like 20 minutes.
What happens is while the board is cool, the solder joint makes decent contact. But as the logic board heats up, the contact gets worse and opens up and eventually the iBook freezes. I used to have a link to a Danish site with pictures of this, but it evidently has been removed.
The fix for me was to remove the logic board and to send it to a specialist for a resoldering process called a reball. This cost about $75 + one way shipping and my iBook has worked perfectly ever since.
Some people have been able to get their computers working for a while by installing a home made shim. Here is a link:
    http://www.coreyarnold.org/ibook/
It might be a challenge working on an iBook on a sailing ship, however.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I do think this is really a logic board problem.
    Good luck!

  • My iMac freezes when saving a document in Word 2004

Any help would be appreciated. When I try to save a document while in Word 2004 the application freezes and I have to force quit. Thankfully I can print the file as a PDF before trying the save as route but this is still a problem. What's the issue? Anyone have advice?

    Welcome to the Forum.
It could be a corrupt preference file. You can try downloading the free Preferential Treatment (not certain if it's Universal) to run a check. Or you can do a Finder search for your Word preference file (it will have .plist at the end of it) drag it to the desktop, relaunch Word and attempt to save something.

Bad timing.  Reapply the security update:

What happened is that version 1.0 of the security update was available for a bit of time this weekend, and that disabled Rosetta.  Version 1.1 brought it back.

  • Freezing problem with Microsoft Word 2004

    Hi,
    I'm recently having this issue...
I would be working (typing) on my Microsoft Word 2004, then jump to another application, come back, and the Word would freeze. It does eventually unfreeze, but I have to wait about a minute until it does, and it gets a bit frustrating. I haven't lost any files due to this problem but I'm afraid I might sometime soon. If I'm just typing on it it's fine - it doesn't freeze. But it's when I use another application and go back to it it freezes. My CPU or memory is below average and I have 2GB of RAM so I don't think it has to do anything too many files/applications opened at the same time.
Does anybody know how to fix this/what's wrong with it?
    Thanks.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.  I already removed Acrobat Pro 9 from my
computer, but I'll be willing to try again with a new download.  I always
wondered by Word would open up when I was sending an e-mail...I don't need
fancy editing for e-mails.  So, now I know.
    Thanks again.

  • Dual G5 late 2004. Some problems with fan and freeze and now can't start

I just purchased a late 2004 Dual 2.5 Gig, with PCI-x and 1 gig ethernet. 1 Gig of what I presume to be factory ram and blue toothe. Connected to a new 23" Apple display.
The problems I have been having pale to where I stand now. I am stuck and can't move forward. At this point, the computer is off. When I try to turn it on, it does little to nothing and gradually the fan speed increases until the computer sounds like it wants to take off. The screen either stays dark, or sometimes I see the ? briefly, and then the grey screen with logo and that is where it stops. Currently I can't get past a lot of fan noise??
Can I get this thing started?? I have tried both starting from CD and hard drive. No luck.
This whole mess started yesterday and has continually gotten worse. Those details I can get into if needed, but for now, what can I do to see the screen and start over.
I just bought the machine, and I was doing a clean install that was acting funny. Hard drive sleep mode would cause the machine to not wake up. Specifically it was the monitor that would not wake up. The keyboard and the computer would still respond when I adjusted the volume. The screen was black.
I narrowed the problem to drive sleep, or monitor sleep by using the energy saver preferences. Just the monitor sleeping wasn't the probem. The computer would wake up. But if the hard drive went to sleep, then I could never get the screen back and the computer acted dormant. The only thing I could get was the volume sound from the computer and lights on the keyboard.
I ran Techtool Pro 4.1.2 ( i think ) and it reported possibe problems on the hard drive with the volume. I made the changes hoping that would fix the problem? No.
I decided to flush it all and start over with the install cd, make sure firmware was good, reformat the drive, and then install the System. But instead, I got caught is this loop of death that I can't get out of.
It had a kernal panic the first day I turned it on, but that was the last one. (dark screen with white message) The computer ran rather sluggish at times. I was shocked at times. Very slow finder response.
So? Suggestions? I have searched Apple support and tried anything I can think of. This is my first G5, but I have had some exposure to OSX beginning around 10.2. I am at my wits end and would greatly appreciate some input. For now I have to get some sleep.
Is my battery bad? It just won't start?
Thank you for any help you can provide, or links to articles!!

Hi Lawson, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
You could try a PMU/SMU reset
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
Use the second procedure if you have a button as shown in the photo - use the first method if you don't. You may not have to remove the intake fan assembly to get at the button. Observe static precautions and make sure to press the button once only.
Then try to start up on the CD/DVD.
If it fires up ok you could then proceed with the 10.4 install as before, and then combo update to 10.4.8
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateppc.html
I would connect only a display, wired keyboard and mouse to start with - and disable any of the sleep, etc. Options in Energy Saver.
You may wish to use the Disk Utility on the 10.4 retail disc(under Utilities in the menu) to Erase and zero(select Security Options) the drive before the install.
The kernel panic and other problems could have been caused by a corrupted system on the boot drive, or by hardware problems, such as RAM, video card, battery, etc. Some of the hardware stuff is linked-to further down the post here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3084827&#3084827
However, try the PMU/SMU reset and erase/install first, and post again with details if you still have problems.

  • IBook G4 Late 2004 Keeps Freezing!

    Help!
I have a iBook G4 and its just started to freeze all the time. I can use it and everything, its just whenever i move it. The only thing i can do is move the mouse?!?! Help?!?!
    Thanks!

Hi Wolfder and welcome to Apple Discussions, Your computer is fine until you move it, right? When it freezes, does it ever come back or do you have to turn it off?
No offense, are you new to Mac's? Have you repaired permissions and how much disk space is available?
From your short description, my first guess would be that the Hard Drive acuator is moving when the computer is disturbed which abruptly changes the location of the heads that read the data..for example, your working in a word.doc then all of a sudden your head is reading a video file. The computer doesn't know what to do so it starts thinking....freezes...Your drive would have to be replaced.
But before you go there, let's make darn sure thats what it is.
IN THE MEAN TIME: If you have a backup external FW drive, clone your system.
or just backup everything that you want in case the drive goes bye-bye.
    Cheers,
    Glynn

  • Lock downs, freezes and MADNESS!

I am having a problem with frequent freezing on my iBook. By frequent I mean this thing freezes everytime I use it. Sometimes I'm OK for 30 minutes, sometimes for 5 minutes, but no matter how my computer sessions begin, I unfortunately know how they will end. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.
When the freeze occurs, I am not able to remedy the problem by forcing whatever application I'm using to quit. As a result, I have to do a hard shutdown by pressing the power key (don't know what it is called).
Restarting the machine usually takes several tries. Many attempts end with a blank blue screen. Or, I get a blank blue screen and quick flashes of black horizontal lines.
I have run the disk utility on the startup and tried several other things (different kinds of resets), but nothing seems to work. I try to run Norton but the iBook typically freezes about 10 minutes into the process.
I feel it's also important to note that I am having problems with my battery. It's only at 28 percent of capacity and won't seem to take more than an hour's charge. With that in mind, I've tried testing the iBook with the battery in and out, but nothing seems to make a difference. However, I have noticed that I seem to have better luck restarting when the iBook is not plugged into the powercord. Maybe that's my imagination, though.
I am using an iBook G4 purchased in mid-2004. My stats: OS X v. 10.4.3; 1.07 GHz processor; 256 MB memory; and I have about 1 GB left on a 38 GB HD.
    Any help would be appreciated.
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I try to run Norton but the iBook typically freezes about 10 minutes into the process.
If you did this before you started having trouble, this very well could be the cause. Norton Utilities for the Mac has been discontinued for about two years now and they never supported Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), let alone the current Mac OS X 10.4.
My first advice, put in your install disk that has the Apple Hardware Test on it (It should be listed somewhere on the label as "AHT version X.X".) and restart the iBook. Hold down on the "option" key. This will bring up a "Startup Manager" that will allow you to select the disk to startup from. Choose the Hardware Test by clicking on it and then click on the right arrow to continue. I would run the extended test to see if any errors appear. This may take a few minutes. If everything comes out okay, then we can be reasonably sure that you have a software problem, not a hardware problem (but the Apple Hardware Test is not always 100% accurate in reporting hardware failures). Let us know what you find out about this troubleshooting step and we'll try to help you from there. Depending on what you find out, we may recommend different steps...

  • MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum - Freezing Issue during games

First off greetings to everyone on these forums...
I purchased the MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum motherboard from NewEgg back at the end of March to compliment the AMD 64 "Winchester" processor that I also purchased at that time to replace a slightly older AMD XP "Barton" system that was using the Abit NF7-S motherboard. For the past month I have been fighting an unusual and highly irritating issue that I have noticed during game play and have tried everything that I know of and more in an attempt to remedy this issue, but to no avail. This is the general background of the situation and now I will descibe in greater detail as to what this issue I am referring to is and the symptoms of this issue and some of the various methods used to remedy this issue.
The issue is that while play a game the system experiences a short 5-10 second freeze during the game randomly, but usually several times an hour. During this freezing the sound would loop and as suddenly as the freeze occurs it would cease and the game would continue on as if nothing happened. However, sometimes this would result in the system freezing outright after this short 5-10 second freeze... but it does not feel like a total system freeze, but rather a video freeze as the sound continues and I still have keyboard control... but this does require me to force a manual reboot of the machine itself. I have scowered the internet and various forums in an attempt to find what the issue was and use various methods to remedy this issue, but so far nothing has worked in my favor... but it does seem like this issue has been plaguing other users with the MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Below are some of the methods that I have used in an attempt to solve this issue:
*Default Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU; Over/Under Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU
*Increased voltages to CPU VID, AGP, and Memory
    *Disabled/Enabled AGP Fast Writes
*Increased AGP Aperture from 64MB to 512MB
*Enabled/Disabled ATI/nVidia Speedup option in BIOS
*Forced AGP clock lock to 66-67mhz
    *Relaxed/Aggressive memory timings
    *APIC enabled/disabled
    *Gate A20 turbo/normal
*Disabled all unneeded onboard components (Realtek NIC, Sound, SATA)
*Disabled nVidia MAC and attempted to use 3Com Gigabit PCI card instead
    *Swapped HDD Cables
*Tried PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) in PCI Slots 3/4
*Tried video drivers from 71.89 Official to 76.45 beta modified drivers
*Tried 5.10 official nForce drivers to remixed 7.02 nForce drivers (5.10 drivers uses 4.36 GART, higher drivers uses the 4.40 GART)
*Applied all the latest updates from Windows Update Website
*Reinstalled Operating System (Windows XP SP2) 5 different times clean with various settings (APIC on/off, etc...) and different drivers.
*Installed Audio Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) with older and the latest drivers available from Creative's website
    *Replaced PSU (Previously was a Thermaltake 420watt PSU, 18A +12v) with a OCZ Modstream 520watt PSU (28A +12v)
*Video card is KNOWN working from previous build (AMD XP 3000, Abit NF7-S)
*Hard Drive is KNOWN working from previous build
*CD/DVD-ROM drive is kNOWN working from previous build
*Heat is not an issue... all components temperature is well below rated level, the only unknown is the chipset temperature (it has a active heatsink and seems to not be hot to the touch, applied AS5 to it anyway)
*Used latency tweak to the video card
*Used Rivatuner to force constant performance level
*Tweaked BIOS to force even clock rates and forced 1.4v to the GPU Core
    *Used original GPU BIOS
    *Used MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.4 - 1.8 and modified BIOS 1.8
*No background applications are running (not even antivirus)
*Used application to force maximum refresh rates for my monitor
*Memory passed MemTest86+ for over 24 hours
*System passed Prime95 and SuperPi for over 24 hours
*System seems stable in all non gaming related applications
    *Checked through various troubleshooting procedures
    *Disabled SBDRVDET.EXE using MSCONFIG
*There are no IRQ conflicts outside of PCI system management sharing IRQ11 with the NIC and USB... in APIC there are no IRQ conflicts what so ever. Regardless neither method worked
*Installed AMD 64 drivers from AMD
    *Disabled DEP in boot.ini
*...and many other various tweaks and modifications.

I have been fighting this issue for well over a month now and I am frankly nearly out of ideas, this does not necessarly prevent me from playing games, but this does interfere with the games I do play (especially online games). I do demand absolute stability from the games that I play and this issue only began AFTER I upgraded to the new motherboard, processor, and memory. The only thing I have not tried is something that I do not have access in attempting on this motherboard, and that is increasing the voltage to the chipset.
Here is my theory on what is going on is that I believe is there is a fault with the chipset on this motherboard and this is manifesting itself while I am playing various games on this system. Of course I would like to try increasing the voltage to the chipset as that would increase stability, but there is no option in BIOS to increase the chipset voltage like the previous motherboard I had (Abit NF7-S). It is possible that either a) the chipset is at fault and is causing me this issue or b) the chipset is not recieving enough voltage.
My question to the rest of you is this, what do you think the problem is and what ideas do you have that I may try that I have not tried yet. Additionally if there is nothing else that I may try should I attempt to RMA this motherboard and will that help, and is there any other versions of this motherboard that I should be aware of. I would appreciate any response from a MSI representative and any comments from those that may have positive suggestions for my issue. Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you may be able to render.

*EDIT* Added additional methods attempted... (there was a lot... so I did not remember everything that I have tried)

Does it only happen in online games, or can it happen in all games? One thing to make sure of is to turn off CRC checksum offload in your NVidia MAC properties (everyone do this, it is incorrectly calculating checksums which leads to servers ignoring your packets). However as you have tried a different network card you can discount this theory.
For me it looks like the biggest culrpit is your 6800NU, i have read alot of bad things about the NU and you have a low bios revision there, just because it worked well against your old chipset doesnt mean it will work well against your current chipset. Sounds like a BIOS fix is needed as some timing is out somewhere.
Ensure Spread Spectrum is off (and as you have already pointed out Fast writes, ATI NV Speedup) and your card is running at default clock.
As a test beg/borrow/steal another graphics card (preferably nvidia) and see how it goes so you can narrow in on your video card.
It is not just one game, but it is more prodominate in certain games than others... the game in question here is Planetside... though I stuck a demo of Unreal Tournament 2004 on a loop bot match and it seemed to have locked up after 4 hours (not sure how many times it experienced that 5-10 freeze as I went to bed). As for the video card it was KNOWN working from a previous build in those same games (Previous build was a AMDXP3000 and a Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard). The only components different in this build is the AMD64, the MSI Neo2 K8N, 2 new sticks of Corsair XMS to replace the Corsair ValueSelects, and the SB Audigy2 as I would never use a software codec audio solution. Spread Spectrum is LOCKED in BIOS and disabled... ATI/nVidia speed up was disabled from the start... and I tried the Video Card at default clock, over clocked, as well as under clocked and the same issue resulted... as I said before it is NOT the video card.
There are two other things I could try is use my old Geforce4ti 4200 and see what happens... or even try out WindowsXP 64-bit edition as someone earlier suggested. I wish I could find a new BIOS for my XFX 6800NU, but there there is only the revision 1 BIOS that I was able to find. The mystery continues...
    The GameMaster...
