DW MX 2004 will not open
I have been using DW MX 2004 for several years without incident. today when I went to open it up I got an "access denied" error message. I tried to install the updater and got another message that said that DW MX 2004 was not in the designated folder but when I used "My Computer" the 12MB file was listed as being there. Now when I try to open it again I get no message just a warning tone. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Dreamweaver CS6. The latest release. Especially for you - transitioning from MX2004 to CS6, you'll be entering a whole new dimension of web designing with a whole new range of possibilities that has been built into DW CS6.You can get a 30 day trial here: http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/dreamweaver.html
Adobe also offers a Cloud Subscription for all their Creative Suite softwares. You can learn more about it here: http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/creativecloud.html
All web-files you've made with MX2004 will be compatible with CS6. No need to worry about that.

Hi I've just upgraded my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Now my installed programs:- Quarkxpress 6.5 - Adobe creative suite CS2 - Adobe Acrobat 7.0 professional and Microsoft Office 2004 will not open - I get a banner saying not supported by power mac. Can anyone please help me I really need these programs for my work. Thank you!
hi tuggerose
i think it is bad new for you. if it's any consilation i went through the same thing when i loaded mountain lion when it first came out. i think the problem is that mountain lion is a pure 64bit operating system and the software you have is 32bit. earlier os's were able to emulate 32bit but the new system does not. the answer is new software. i did it and it cost me a load of money and much angst so your not alone. -
Upgraded my Imac to Mt. Lion and now the Microsoft Office icons will not open WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, or ENTOURAGE. I just pruchased on Ebay
OFFICE 2011 since my old version was 2004. DO I REMOVE THE OLD ICONS BEFORE LOADING OFFICE 2011 RO AFTER I LOAD IT???
THANKS, DR PEPPERMINTOffice 2011 will install in a separate folder. But do not install Office 2011 until you remove Office 2004. It comes with its own uninstalled located in the MS Office folder. Only use the uninstaller to get rid of it. Then install Office 2011.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
NeoOffice
Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
Keynote - presentation
Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.) -
How can I get back my Word docs now that Pages will not open them?
How can I retrieve my Word docs now that Pages will not open them in Mavericks. I have a brand new iMac with my evolving manuscript for a book transsferred from my now defunct MacBook Pro by external drive. Pages tells me that "PowerPC apps are "no longer supported" and Mavericks will not open Microsoft Office, though it is still in Applications. Would really appreciate ANY help!
You will have to have an app that will open them first, you can upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 which is an Intel based app then open the docs and retry. Your docs were created with extremely old version of Office for Mac, version 2004!
Another possiblity is using a web based compatible MS Office for Mac app and see if it will open your doc and then save it, then attempt to re-open in Pages. -
Keynote will not open in Powerpoint for Mac 2011
I followed all the instructions for saving the Keynote presentation for Powerpoint. But, when Powerpoint for Mac 2011 tries to open it, it will not open and gives me an error message indicating it needs repair; I click repair, it says there is something missing. Help!!!
There have been many postings on this problem recently. It seems that opening the exported PP in 2004 and saving it will then allow it to open in PP 2011. If you don't have an older version of PP, try to download OpenOffice or some other free office program, open the exported PP in there and then try in PP 2011.

Applications Will Not Open after Migration
Purchased new MacBook Pro (10.7.8) last night and used Migration Assistant to transfer applications and documents to new mahine from "old" MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. and things did not go as smoothly as anticipated:
Applications such as Illustrator, InDesign and Word from old MBP will not open on new Machine
Old User Profile came over but the doc displays question marks where Documents and Downloads should be
Old Profile on New MBP does not allow me to change Finder preferneces to display the Hard Drive on the desktop
What have I done wrong and what can I do to correct these issues?
Any suggestions?SeekingSophia wrote:
SO - it is possible to move my Creative Suite and other apps over and actually be able to use them or must I do a fresh install?
That depends on the age of those Apps. If they are older, like Word/Office 2004, they will not run on Lion.
There are many version of Adobe Creative Suite. Some run on Lion, newer version back to I think CS3 (but don't quote me on that), and some don't.
Again personally I always do clean fresh installs on new computers. Whether Mac or PC. I have never cared for using anything that copies over old stuff from previous OSs to new computers. I find it makes the new computer like the old computer, IE OLD.
But others use it and find it OK.
The true definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.
So give it a shot. If you find yourself back where you started when you made the first post then you can always start over. -
Applications will not open after 10.5.2
Following install of 10.5.2 via Software Update, many applications (Office 2008, Photoshop, et al) hang and will not open. I downloaded and installed the 343 Meg Combo Updater and still have the same problem. Some applications work and others will not. Anyone else having similar problems?
I had a similar problem after the 10.5.2 and graphics card update, but only my Microsoft Office 2004 apps would no longer launch. They'd bounce a few times in the dock and then disappear.
Uninstalling Unsanity's Application Enhancer (APE) by downloading their installer (http://www.unsanity.net/ape-203.dmg) and running it with the uninstall option, followed by a restart seemed to fix things. I know there have been a lot of problems with APE and 10.5 and I probably should've uninstalled it sooner, but didn't have serious problems till now. -
.png files will not open Fireworks from Dreamweaver.
Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help - I am a new to this forum, so
please be gentle!
I am running the new Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard on a
new 17" MacBook Pro with 2Gb memory.
I have hit an odd snag when I am in Dreamweaver working on my
and other web-sites.
Fireworks will not open when I click on .png files which were
created in Fireworks ..
I get the following message:
"Unable to launch
Macintosh HD:Applications:Macromedia Fireworks
MX 2004:Fireworks MX 2004.
Please be sure that this application exists and that
there is enough memory to run it".
I can open .gif files created in Fireworks - with no problems
at all.
There is plenty of memory - even with Fireworks open I get
the same warning ..!!
I have never had this problem before when using Studio MX
2004 on my previous 15" MacBook. I have transferrred all my sites
to the new MacBook Pro - the paths are exactly the same within each
site - nothing has changed. My work flow is the same. All the sites
function normally but for this annoying problem - has anyone else
experienced it? The Adobe help center seemed rather baffled - or
the techie I spoke to did ..!!
Have I missed something here?
Or am I in the wrong forum .. I hope not!
Thanks in advance,

fix it. maybe you can since you have the new version, though. go
into your preferences, select file types/editors, and make sure
it's pointed to the right place.
i did that on mine but it still won't work for me. but i get
around it by just right clicking and choosing "open with" and the
selecting Fireworks. it's kind of a pain in the butt, so i'm
interested to see if anyone else has any ideas.
Hi n h c,
Thanks for your prompt reply!
I did as you suggested and went into preferences and checked
file types/editors. Low and behold .png files were selected to open
with Fireworks MX 2004 by default - Fireworks MX 2004 is NOT on my
MacBook ... no wonder the .png files would not open! Meanwhile .gif
files were selected to open with Adobe Fireworks CS3 (Primary)
I played around with the + and - buttons, selected the
correct application and everything now seems to be OK.
How interesting the techie at Adobe didn't think to tell me
of this simple fix ...mmnn! On the other hand, how stupid of me not
to check preferences! Thanks again n h c - you are a gem!

HT2523 My TextEdit will not open email attachments ending docx. How can I remedy this?
My TextEdit will not open email attachments ending docx. How can I remedy this?
No, TextEdit cannot read those. You will need to convert them to .doc files first:
Mac users using Word 2004 who receive a Word 2008 for Mac, (or Word 2007 for Windows) document, will not be able to read this without having the Open XML Converter installed, which can be downloaded from Microsoft.
Go to this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx
and click on the right under Most Popular, 'Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2'
This opens a window at the bottom of the page. Scroll that to the bottom and click on English.dmg, and it will download for you as a disk image, which can be installed in the usual way.
After installation you can open and read .xml formatted Word 2008 documents in Word 2004.
Update: This link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976831 takes you to a newer version 1.1.3 (released Nov 10, 2009). -
Appleworks 6.2.7 will not open and can't boot from Systemworks CD
Received message "need to restart your computer". Now Appleworks 6.2.7 will not open and I can't boot using SystemWorks CD -- keep getting the above "need to restart your computer" message when trying to start with SW CD. I've gone through the troubleshooting steps i.e. safe boot, throw away the prefs file, and have just reinstalled Appleworks from my software restore CD. When I try to open AW I now get message "Appleworks has unexpectedly quit". What do I do now? Suggestions and advice would be appreciated.
LorneUnless you absolutely have to open files created in ClarisWorks 4 or earlier or drag & drop in tables, I recommend the first thing you do is update to AppleWorks 6.2.9. AppleWorks 6.2.7 update came out around January 2003 & was the worst update ever. Fortunately, the 6.2.9 updater came out in January 2004 & fixed the issues 6.2.7 was supposed to fix and the ones it caused. You can find the links to the updater on this page where you can choose the appropriate updater for your AppleWorks 6 installation.
Then after updating, delete the AppleWorks preferences as in my user tip Barbara gave the link to.

I am trying to import developed images from LightRoom 5 Photoshop 6 for further editing. I am receiving this message and the images will not open.....'Could not open scratch file because the file is locked, or you do not have necessary access permissions or another program is using the file. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file. How do I fix this? I would greatly appreciate it if you would respond with terms and procedures that a computer ignorant user, such as me, will understand. Thanks.
Have you tried restoring the Preferences yet?

Help, I had aperture open and working on a image and did not have a battery in and bumped the power off. As a result it will not open my master, it is locked. when I try to open that Library it says There was an error opening the database for the library. I have tried every thing. I updated the other libr but now it will not open the main to update. What do I do?
Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down. You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue. -

Have a Macbook Pro and a 4th gen iPod Touch. Downloaded and install iOS 4.3.2 yesterday. Upgrade went without a hitch, but now iTunes on My Macbook Pro will not open. I get an error that says --The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes--. I am running iTunes 10.1. I searched for Updates to my MacBook Pro (running 10.6.7), but comes back saying no updates available. WHAT IS GOING ON??
Is your computer still authorized in the Store menu in iTunes?
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
When I changed to my new MacBookPro I had to authorize it although I used TimeMachine to transfer my settings and data.
Did you try to deselect Wi-Fi syncing and enable it again after that?

Did you already transfer your purchases and manually started a backup?
