DW MX 2004 won't launch ...  authenticate loop

I'm on OS 10.4.9 and suddenly Dreamweaver MX 2004 is asking
me for my system password at launch. When I enter it, the
authenticate window disappears, then comes back again. If I enter
the incorrect user name and/or password, I get a message to that
effect, but the right combo just brings back the window again. All
other Macromedia/Adobe programs launch fine... it's just
Dreamweaver. And this is a new problem... DW has worked fine in the
past, I can't think of any new installs or changes that would
account for this.
To be clear, it's asking my for my computer admin user name
and password. And it won't accept them.

Never mind. Although the instructions clearly state that one
will not have to reinstall the software once the patch is
installed, since it still didn't want to launch, I de-installed MX,
then reinstalled. This time, the installation was successful, and I
was able to go through the activation process, and finally launch
the software.
Perhaps the instructions should be changed to read
"de-install software then reinstall once the patch is installed."
Or something like that so that the process will work.
Thanks for replying though.

  • Dreamweaver MX 2004 won't launch.  Please help!

My old laptop running Dreamweaver MX 2004 is dying, so I installed it on my new Windows XP laptop.  I have installed it several times before and never had a problem.  On the new laptop, when I launch Dreamweaver, it does not start.  In Task Manager, I see a Dreamweaver process start, then two ~e5d141.tmp processes start, then they all disappear.  One Macromedia Licensing.exe process remains for a few seconds or a minute, then it disappears too.  Technical support said my license and registration are all okay.  I installed the 7.0.1 upgrade but that had no effect.  There is nothing the event logs.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling in safe mode, launching it in safe mode, disabling the graphic accelerator, and lowering my screen resolution to 1280x1024.  I also tried several "Compatibility mode" settings.  I cannot find any log or dump files, although I might not be looking in the right places or for the right file names.  Can anybody please help me?
    Thank you.

    Good morning ArtieTet,
I had the exact same problem and came across your post. I've since solved it on my computer. I'm not sure what your level of computer expertise is and whether or not you're comfortable editing your registry, so I've dumbed-down the following instructions a bit - forgive me if they're too dumbed-down!
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type regedit
    4. Click the OK button
    5. Double click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key (folder) on the left
    6. Double click the SOFTWARE key
    7. Double click the MACROMEDIA key
    8. Right click the DREAMWEAVER MX 2004 key
    9. Click Rename
    10. Type a new name for the key, such as OLD DREAMWEAVER MX 2004
    11. Press Enter
    12. Try to start Dreamweaver again
If all goes well, Dreamweaver should open and re-create that DREAMWEAVER MX 2004 registry key from scratch. There's likely some corrupt data in it, though I haven't been able to figure out what. If I do, I'll let you know.

  • MX 2004 won't launch-help, please....

Install of Macromedia Studio X 2004 (dreamweaver, fireworks, flash) stopped opening all of a sudden. Happened on two different computers at roughly the same time. Have read all related support forums at Apple and Adobe, have tried many suggested fixes to no avail. Have dumped prefs, tried the Hot Fix install, permission fix, the Quicktime update, etc. I can't do a software reinstall b/c it won't accept my admin passowrd. A possibly related problem is that I can't print either. Have a feeling it is a bizarre permissions/licensing issue but I can't nail it down.
Running 10.4.9 on Intel MacBook Pro and a PowerPC Dual G4, both experiencing the same problem.
Is there any reliable help out there? Thanks!

I will check back so I can find out what to do should this happen again.
More possible bad news.  If you had followed what fane_j had asked you to do you might have found out it wasn't microsoft's fault for your problem and wouldn't have had to spend $150.  Because while you may have an Office that works, fane_j was not suggesting a solution but probing for a trojan (google "flashback trojan") that has been crashing powerpc code which is what Office 2004 is.
So if you do have the trojan, while you can run a version of Office, the trojan may still be in your system since installing a version of Office isn't going to remove it.  So I'll make another request.  Launch Terminal (in your Utilities folder) and copy/paste the following line into the terminal window and hit return:
    defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment
If you see anything other than a "does not exist" error message you almost certainly do have the trojan and post the results in this thread.
The choice is yours.  You can ignore this and take the risk.  Or do what has been requested.

A 2003 MS office sounds like a Windows version.  A 2004 MS Office that was Mac compatible can not be run natively on a new MBA since the Lions do not run PPC applications.  You will have to get a newer edition of MS Office that is compatible with your new MBA.

  • Appleworks won't launch in Tiger

I just upgraded to Tiger and downloaded the update to 10.4.3. Now I can't even launch AppleWorks 6.2.9 at all. All I get is the spinning lollipop and the "not responding" message in the Force Quit dialog. I've tried repairing permissions, but that makes no difference. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Ken
Although it would appear that Suitcase was the cause of you not being able to launch AppleWorks, I think that may only be a small part. As OS X is upgraded & updated, AppleWorks seems more & more sensitive to a couple of long-standing issues. The first is the "Recent Items bug" that can cause tremendous slow-downs to the point that AppleWorks won't launch. Take a look at the top post in this forum, especially my post, Peggy, "always waiting for spinning lolipop" #1, 03:59pm Sep 13, 2004 CDT, with links to three user tips about recent items. The second is the need to trash the AppleWorks preferences after applying a system update. My user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, has more on preferences.

  • Flash MX Won't Launch

For some reason after a few years of using Flash MX 2004 it
won't launch on my Mac (G5-10.3.9) anymore. It gets all the way to
where the work area is about to appear and then quits. The error
    log says " Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE"
I've tried every possible thing I can think of from deleting
the .plist , repairing permissions and repairing the disk to
re-installing the entire thing from scratch with no luck. It still
does the same thing and I can't figure out what's going on. It
doesn't happen to any of my other applications.
Does anybody have any idea what's going on or how I can fix
    it?

    eongbend;
Although I believe flashmx is no longer supported, there may
    still be
information/downloads for it available in Adobe's flash
    support area. My
First guess would be that you might need to reinstall the
    update which was
    released for flashmx/mac.

  • Address Book Won't Launch in Leopard

Suddenly, Address Book won't launch in Leopard. It worked after initial installation but now won't open. I have tried re-syncing with .Mac, re-starting. Address Book info (e-mail addresses) is still accurate and available in Mail.
I also installed Leopard on my Mac Book. No problems, Address book works fine.
    How can I fix?

  • GarageBand won't launch since last upgrade

    Hello
I haven't been able to launch GarageBand since I updated it from the "Software Update" program. It downloaded around 1 Gig of instruments and loops and won't launch since then, jumps once in the dock and stays still.
I tried deleting prefs and it didnt do anything. I created another user account and it couldn't launch it from there either.
I was wondering if anyone had the same problem or knew a way to solve it... since I just bought a midi keyboard! Just my luck.
    PB G4 10.4.11 and GB 4.1.2 (248.7)

Freed up some disk space, ran a couple of maintenance programs, now works fine.

  • Garageband won't launch

Basically garageband won't launch. I have gone through all of the support online, forums and even forums attached to these forums....
I have recently installed Pro Tools and that worked but it is a real hard program to use.
So uninstalled it. I deleted everything to do with Pro Tools and all of the associated plug ins. Some forums suggested it is to do with Melodyne and ReWire plug ins. I have deleted those.
I click on Garageband in the dock - it initiallises with the bar and then stops, then the error box comes up - couldn't launch etc etc.
I have tried to open garageband through another file incase garageband was trying to open the last recording and it has a bug. Still doesn't launch.
Previous to installing Protools - Garageband worked a treat.
I have since reinstalled garageband from the start up disks that came with the computer and have all the required updates from Apple installed as well.
All of my previous files that were recorded using Garageband were saved on an external hard drive.
Is there something else that I am missing to get it to launch?

Thanks for your advice - before you answered I thought that it may have been that I installed ProTools LE before the summer and the bundle that comes with it - I uninstalled it at the end of the summer as I didn't really like the M-Box2. Anyway, I have taken out all the folders relating to didgidesign and izotope, deleted GarageBand and re-installed it. hen it first opened it produced a box saying 'thankyou for using izotope software would like to authenticate now or continue with the demo. I clicked on demo and GarageBand opened up fine...
Thanks for your help...I'm not sure if it going to continue to work but we'll see - I thought that telling you about the ProTools & related software may have been useful...

  • Deleted Microsoft User Data, now FileMaker Pro, EndNote Won't Launch...

Yesterday I was trying to clean off my HD, and I was basically cleaning stuff out of Documents, Music, and Pictures. When I came across the "Microsoft User Data" I figured I don't really use microsoft apps, (have them installed but don't use them), I deleted that folder.
Now Word (2004) runs fine. But FileMaker Pro 8.0 Advanced, and EndNote 9.0 won't launch at all. Neither one gives any error message. They both bounce in the dock a couple of times and then just stop. I actually reinstalled EndNote 9.0 (an upgrade install), and it still doesn't lauch.
Can I get those files back? If it's not the Microsoft User Data, then what is the problem? If re-installing doesn't fix the problem then what can I do?
The only other thing I can think of was that I installed the security updates last night and iTunes 7.2. I can't figure how that could have done it but you never know.
FileMaker is key to my research (grad student in archaeology), and I'm crippled without it.
    PLEASE HELP!!

    What exactly is that data?
AFAIK, it contains the registration data for your copy of MS components. You'll get a better answer at the MS newsgroups: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
Is there any way to repair the link or lost files?
Not unless you have a backup or want to expend bucks with something like Data Rescue.
Would a copy of the old User Data be found in any of my other accounts on the computer?
Not likely. It's probably user specific.
If I logged in to another user account on my computer and went and copied the MS User Data folder, and then replaced it in my main account would that have any effect?
Once again, visit the newsgroups. That's where you'll get better answers.

  • Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

    Hi,
So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)
    Here are my comp specs:
    Samsung
    Processor:
    AMD A6-3420M APU with
Radeon (Tm) HD graphics 1.50 ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) - 4.00 (3.48 usable)
64 Bit operating System running on Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).
