DW Search not seeing file - CRITICAL

Hi Gang-
I ran into a critical issue yesterday when using Dreamweaver
(CS3) to do a "Find" on a string of text.... I did a "ctrl-F" to
look for a string of text inside of a file, and performed a search
using DW's source code and text options. The string is present in a
file, however none of the ways that I could execute a search/find
with DW yielded a positive search result; DW search results came up
empty.
This presented a very uncomfortable situation that I was
forced into with a support group, so much so they mandated that I
download and install CFEclipse (the search result came back
positive with CFEclipse). More importantly, it made me look foolish
that a simple search gave wrong results and consequently killed
several hours of my time, and others as well.
I was trying to find a simple string of text "Your attempt
was successful." I copied and pasted the search term, tried shorter
strings and ultimately the search failed. The file that I needed to
find was a ".properties" file - is there something special I need
to know to have DW handle these file types? Are there any other
file types that will hang me up in the same way?
Thanks for your help,
Rich

This is an issue that I have never come across before. You're
using a
non-standard filename extension, so it doesn't particularly
surprise me
that Dreamweaver ignored it. Have you tried entering
.properties in the
list of filename extensions, as I suggested? If that works,
your problem
is solved. All that's needed is for the documentation to be
made more
explicit.
On the other hand, if your filename extension is likely to be
in
widespread use, perhaps it's something that should be added
to the
standard list of files that Dreamweaver handles. Submit a
feature
request to the Dreamweaver team.

  • DNG 6.3 not seeing files

Just updated to DNG Convertor 6.3 and it does not see files, only folders.  I am running Vista 64, CS5, and Lightroom3...

If you recovered a backup catalog, you can double-click on the catalog file, and that should open the file in Lightroom.

  • Using Finder search not displaying file names

I'm running 10.6.4 and searching from the finder on an Xserve for a file name 00035.png but it's not showing in the results.
    Any ideas?

To clarify your question, when you perform the file search through finder, at the bottom of the window is there a place where it says "x items" and is the number shown there greater than zero?
I am having trouble understanding if your search is returning results but they aren't being displayed, or if you're searching for a file you know is on your drive, but it's not being identified.

  • Spotlight/Finder Search not finding files in search

    Hello everyone,
When I do a search for a file, any file or folder in fact, that exists in any of the system folders or the /library and user/library folders, they NEVER appear in the search results.
Could someone please explain to me, for example, why a simple seacrh, say for example, for a folder called "Desktop Pictures" which can be found in MacOS X/Library, never shows up in the search result. Is it just my mac that has this problem?
I look forward to any responses volunteered!
    thanks!
    SB

As baltwo eventually explained, you have to add the search criteria "System files" to your search, with the option "Include" selected, to find many items Spotlight otherwise excludes from search results. Alternately (& quite ridiculously), if your search is restricted to the parent folder containing the item, you don't need to add this.
For example, if you open /Library in the Finder, enter "Desktop Pictures" in the search box, you won't get it in the results with the default "This Mac" location, but if you click "Library" for the location, you will. (Yes, many users think this is bizarre, "what were they thinking?" behavior.)
What Spotlight considers "system files" is only slightly less bizarre, as you will probably discover once you start using it to broaden searches. For instance, Safari history items & Mail.app messages are not found unless you include system files, but many files like C Header Source files (in System/Library/Frameworks) are found without including system files in the search.
When it was introduced in Tiger, Spotlight was supposed to be a next-generation search engine, capable of accurately guessing what you were looking for (& filtering out what you weren't) with near-sentient intelligence. I think almost anyone who used that version will agree it did not achieve that lofty goal. Apple apparently agreed, or at least listened to the complaints enough to realize it needed rethinking. Unfortunately, what its designers came up with for the Leopard rethink feels like an early beta version, full of hastily implemented, quirky features that never got sorted out before it was released.
We can only hope that we won't have to wait for OS 10.6 for a more mature, less quirky version.

  • I can not see file( photo, document) in IM APPS

    Hi Everybody,

  • Aperture import does not see files on hard drive

This happens again and again, and it's EXTREMELY irritating.
I am trying to import some existing JPEGs on my Desktop. When I try Import in Aperture, the file browser simply does not see most files and folders. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to happen on a whim. This is very bad, I have just about had it with Aperture. And yes, permissions are set correctly.
Can anyone figure out on what basis Aperture sees or does not see certain files/folders?

I am trying to import some existing JPEGs on my Desktop.
Do you mean your Desktop folder? And is the Desktop folder the only folder that is showing this behaviour?  I have never had problems to open images directly from the Desktop. Have the image files been dropped directly onto the the Desktop or into a subfolder of the Desktop?
Previous MacOS X versions had problems with a huge number of files on the Desktop because this folder has been treated in a special way.
Which version of Aperture and MacOS X are you using?
It might be a problem with permissions or file ownership.
If the problem with your Desktop folder persists you could try to reset the permissions, ownership, and access control lists on your Home folder as described in Linc Davis's post here:  Re: iPhoto returns OSStatus error -54
Have you by any chance encrypted your Home folder by File Vault?

  • Searches not finding files... any suggestions?

    Hello,
I am using a Mac Pro desktop with two external firewire drives. I was doing a search for files I know exist on one of the external drives and the search pulled up nothing. I went to my drive and found the files alive and well but the search in the finder won't find them. I tested out a bunch more files and folders on that drive and 95% of the files the search wouldn't find. It found a couple of files on that drive but that's it. Again, when I go to the finder the files are there. This is causing me a lot of problems because since the finder can't find the files my applications can't either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to rebuild the drive index or something? Should I use disk warrior? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why doesn't Spotlight find files or folders? Why is there no simple file finder utility for Snow Leopard? Seems like I can find certain files (usually files which I already know where there are), but not the folders or files I'm actually looking for. In this case I'm looking for a Cisco profile file that ends with .pcf, but I have had the problem many times before. Am I missing something, or is the capability simply not there? Is there some kind of built-in feature that lets you find only the files that naive users can see?
Also, I'm uncertain about the difference between searching for a string that is part of a file or folder name, and a string that is within contents of the file. I would like to be able to choose which I'm searching for.

  • Email not seeing files when attaching them in iOSX Mavericks

    Hi,
I've updated to iOSX Mavericks on my macbook pro and am having difficulty in my email seeing my files when I try to attach them. It just comes up with the main file menu and when I click on "documents" (for example) there are no files there.
It's only like this for the first few attempts and after a few goes it seems to display my files properly but happens every time and is quite time consuming and frustrating.
Anyone else have the same problem?
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Suzzie

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Mac mini core2 duo 10.7.2 not seeing files on usb external drives - mac formatted - ownership ignored-  until finder refresh - any idea

finder has problems showing folders& files on external drives on mac mini with 10.7.2
this is affecting 2 external usb drives both mac formatted - ownership ignored
i click on the drive and see nothing
a refresh of the finder window will make the files appear
if i click on a disclosure arrow, the arrow turns down but no files are displayed
if i double click on the folder it opens that folder in an empty view - a refresh will bring the files visible
interestingly if i eject the drive and plug back it , it will usually display the contents of folders already visited last time but not folders i hadn't looked at - they require a refresh
programs such as iTunes can link to those files when they are not visible in finder
anyone else run into this - any suggestions
oh and drives seem to be working fine on my macbook pro with 10.7.3
    cheers folks
    Simon

John -I'm pretty sure it the mac mini thats having the issue
the two drives - each with their own cable - seem to work perfectly with my other mac
the mac mini is having no problem reading the files itunes and other programs access the files on the drives without a problem
its just the finder is not displaying the files without a refresh of the view
    but thanks anyway

  • Why am I not seeing file.encoding option in file sender/receiver communicat

    Good Morning Everyone,,
I am not able to find file.encoding option in both sender/receiver communication channels on my XI system.  Is it something to do with Java Runtime character sets installed on the XI system?
Do we need to setup something to make it available?  thanks in advance...

    Hi,
Please specify File Type parameter as Text (By default it is Binary)
For File type parameter Text the file encoding will be displayed, UTF-8 is by default encoding used.

  • Robohelp is not "seeing" files

I was struggling with Tortoise SVN on my computer, trying to get my Robohelp projects out of source control. I am not sure what happened but now when I try to generate WebHelp, I don't get the Generate wizard. Generate just runs briefly and nothing happens. If you look at the attached screenshot, you see that RoboHelp doesn't "see" the files in the project--their icons are dimmed.
Any advice? I'm hoping you won't say start a new project and re-import your files b/c then I'll have to struggle with skins, css, etc.
    Thanks,
    V.

    Hi there
What is the screen shot showing? Is it RoboHelp or Windows Explorer or SVN?

  • Problem with not seeing files on DVD disc

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Sony RDR-VX500 which has enabled me to convert my home videos on VHS to DVD. I was then going to put the DVD into my MAC and edit them with Final Cut Pro. The problem now is that the computer does NOT read ANY files on the discs.
My internal DVD burner in my MAC (non-oem)is DVD-R.
The DVD-R disc appears on the desktop but NO files appear.
I tried both DVD+R and DVD-R discs in my pc and saw EVerything!
I did an update and looked on the apple support site, but I do not have a clue and was hoping someone here did.
I am definitely going to have to return thing if I cannot find a way to edit the files!
    I have a G4 with OS 10.2.x
    Thanks for any info..

I am not familiar with the model you are using, but one thought that comes to mind is many of these set-top DVD recorders require you to "finalize" the DVD before it will be playable on another machine or in a computer drive. The set-top can replay any footage it recorded on an unfinalized DVD but other devices won't be able to see this footage until finalized (essentially putting on the directory structure and whatnot for other devices to know where to find the data).
Of course, as others pointed out, if this is what you need to make the footage appear on your Mac, you now have the issue of converting this compressed format back into DV form that iM4 (and previous versions) can use.

  • Lion not seeing files on external

So, I installed Lion. No problems. When I plug my external in (500GB), Lion recognized it, I see my files. I tried to open my Aperture library and it needs to be upgraded to 3.1.3. Here is where the problems begin.
Aperture just hangs. I'm not allowed to unmount the disk. I try to repair file permisions through Disk Utility. It is unable to do it because it can't unmount the disk. My Aperture library now says 'zero bytes'. I can no longer open folders on the drive. I plugged it into an ol PowerPC iMac and it sees the drive but shows nothing of the folders. Plug it back into my Lion installed laptop and I see the folders but nothing more.
Any suggestions? All my pictures are on this drive. I NEED them back!

Interesting that no files show when plugged into the USB port, drive looks empty with the exception of the space remaining. Folder structures show when plugged into firewire 400. The drive has an external power supply.

  • Why does Finder not see files on formatted DVD-RW?

I recently did a drag and drop of more than 90 text and pdf files onto a formatted DVD-RW.  The DVD now shows up as a blank disc.  I swear that I managed to add a couple of files and see them in Finder at least twice.  How do I get back into the files?  Disc was formatted for RW using Disc Utility which still sees the 1.7 GB of data on the disc in Info.  What happened?

    Thanks Lex:
I don't think Invisible will help.  Because I left the DVD-RW open after dragging and dropping files onto it there is no lead-out and the optical drive sees it only as a blank disc.  Somehow I got back into the disk before but since the last OS update 10.8.4 I am unable to get the disc to mount.  Seems I remember Bonjour finding and opening it once.  Nothing since.  Right now I'm leaning toward recreating the archive disc and then closing it as a data disc so I can mount it.  I recall doing this open RW in years past so I could continually add other files until the disc was full.  Protocols must have changed.  Bob Mehaffey
