DW won't open PNG file to edit in Fireworks

I have a complex Fireworks file inserted as part of my html page. I'm trying to edit and update it from Dreamweaver, but it will not open the file in Fireworks.
It's a png file that has been updated from an older version of Fireworks, but I've done a save-as and re-exported the slices and html, then re-inserted it into the page. It still will not open the file in Fireworks.
As a test, I created a new png file, exported it, inserted it into the html page, then tried to edit it in Fireworks. And that does allow me to edit, click done, and then the changes show up on the html page. So it's something with my original file, but I can't figure out what it might be.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Can you open images normally in Photoshop Elements?  I would recommend including this information as well as which verson of iPhoto and Mac OS you are using to the Photoshop Elements forum.  It might also possibly be a problem with iPhoto but the users in the Photoshop Elements forum should better be able to determine where the problem lies.

  • Photoshop won't open .png files

I had a trial version of Illustrator on my computer and when I went to open a .png file in Photoshop, it automatically opened it in Illustrator. Since I don't know enough about Illustrator to move the open .png file from AI to PS, I deleted the trial version. Now the .png doesn't open in anything but Paint. It doesn't give me the opportunity to browse for other programs to open it with. How do I get it to open in Photoshop again, please? Thanks very much for your help.

That didn't solve it for me. Trying to open a PNG file, with PS association, I got: "file-format module cannot parse the file."
    I installed a PNG plug-in. It didn't help.
I created the file, but don't have much control over it; it's from a web cam.

  • Can't open PNG files in Photoshop CS5...??

I'm seeing lots of threads with this problem but none of them seem to have an answer.
For some reason right now when I try to open a PNG file in Photoshop it just crashes.  I end up with a neverending "hour glass".
I had all of my website project directories on a network share.  As I'm no longer sharing all of these files with an office of people I decided to move all of these project files back to my own local machine.  Ever since I've done that I can't open PNG files in Photoshop anymore.
Any information on what could have caused this, or more importantly, how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I was able to edit PNG files just fine up until today, and the only thing I've done is move the files from the network share to my local hard drive.
Any PNG, large or small won't work right now.  All of the other threads I see where people are talking about this say it's happening with their GIF files, too.  I just tried one here and the same thing happened.  From within Photoshop I did File -> Open, browsed to my image directory and the moment I clicked on one of the GIF files it locked up.
So yeah, I'm certain it's isolated to my machine right now.  I just have no idea at all what could possibly be causing this.  The other threads are mentioning netework shares, too, but usually still trying to open over the network.  In my case it was working fine when I did it over the network, but now that I'm opening local files it's failing.

  • How come pages won't open PDF files made by Pages?

How come pages won't open PDF files made by Pages?
I have files I made with Pages and exported as PDF but I can't open them with pages to edit?
Also, where are the recent files created by pages located? Can't find those to open either..

    Hi Tom,
I was delighted when I signed up for Pages. Clunky yes, but it worked. I've been a graphic designer on a Mac for 25 plus years and have logged too many horror stories of "upgrade" wars which cost me massive lost time, data and money forcibly extracted just so I could finish a project.
When I first used Pages in April of 2012? or there about, I was able to open Word documents exported to .pdf format, emailed to me, which I then dragged into Pages. I could make the changes I needed to make, export as a .pdf, return it back to my client which they could then edit on whatever it was they were using. I'm not a neophyte with this. I've had Original Photoshop as a stand alone, Quark (which locked users out 6 months after I purchased it.) Quark again, Freehand, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Photoshop again, Creative Suite for several upgrades, Acrobat Pro. 2 years ago I lost 6 years of Quicken data and had to and "upgrade" start over. This last go around I  had to "upgrade" my Apple ID - yes I had 2 on purpose, lost my Pandora One and my ability to get into the Tulsa County Library website.
At this point, I'm retired and feel like what I've paid for in the past should WORK today. I have a 100+ page cookbook in Quark which I was able to export as a .pdf, that I've lost the tags too, Easier to start over. I have artwork that is hundreds of megs in Photoshop. Not the least bit interested in anybody's "cloud".
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm determined to keep my equipment and software up to date so I can enjoy the skills I've acquired, but I completely cringe at Apple's antics. I truly hate it when I have to respond to some new "tip" or product offer. BooHiss. Happy Turkey Day. Pages is a "turkey" program.
    Best regards, mbd

  • Photoshop CC 2014 won't open any files, not even create new ones

I have a freshly installed version of Photoshop CC 2014 and it just won't open any single file no matter what I do.  I also have Illustrator CC 2014 installed for the past week, and it is behaving fine, and even opening up the files that Photoshop won't open (jpg, psd, png, etc.).
I've tried uninstalling completely, and reinstalling it, and it still won't open any files.  Basically, nothing happens after I click the "Open" button from the Open File dialog window.
I've also try resetting my user preferences using this video tutorial, and it also didn't resolve the problem: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html
Has anyone else experienced this or can give information on how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

Well, I finally got it to work through trial and error.  Here were the steps that I used to get it to work:
    1) Make sure that you are not behind any firewall/VPN/etc, just a direct connection to the internet (if possible).  I use Adobe for my work laptop, and I was informed that this could potentially be an issue during installation processes.
    2) Uninstall Photoshop via the Creative Cloud application interface.
    3) Right-click on the Creative Cloud icon from the system tray and "Quit" (it was automatically started for me from a previous bootup)
    4) Right-click on the Creative Cloud desktop icon and choose "Run As Administrator"
    5) Re-install Photoshop
After performing the above steps, I can now open any png/jpg/gif/etc file, as well as start a new file.  I have no clue why it works or if my steps played any role in fixing it, but I thought it was worth sharing for others to try if they encounter a similar issue.  It could be either the firewall I was behind, or the permissions (I don't think Creative Cloud boots up running as administrator).  But I am in no position to say I know the exact resolution.  Hope this helps!

  • Photoshop CS5 won't open .kmz files

Photoshop CS5 won't open .kmz files. I did a fresh install of Google Earth, opened it, saved a place, and saved a .kmz file. It reopens fine in Google Earth.
When I try to open it in Photoshop, this message pops up:
    File Format Error
This file is from a previous version of Google Earth or it is not a Google Earth file
I get this message regardless of the following:
    - ps is closed and i right click the kmz and choose ps (rather than google earth) to open it
    - ps is open and i double click the kmz
    - ps is open and i choose file/open and select the kmz
    - ps is open and i have created and saved a new psd file, then choose 3D/New Layer from 3D File/ and select the kmz
I have tried the usual remedies, change rwx permissions, repair permissions, delete prefs. No luck.
Any thoughts? Software versions are below.
    Thanks.
    - Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.0.4 x64 (doesn't work in x32 either)
    - Google Earth 6.0.3.2197
    - OS 10.6.8

I was trying to see (since Photoshop Extended touts the ability to open kmz files) if I could open a 3D Google Earth file and edit it in Photoshop. A file like this for instance http://ecotope.org/anthromes/maps/. After more research I've learned that kmz is nothing more that a container format - you can change the extension to zip and see what's in it.
I ran across this tidbit in the Photoshop CS3 Extended forum:
Photoshop CS3 Extended supports the ability to import .kmz files created from Google Earth 4 or exported from Sketch-up in the Google Earth 4 format. Photoshop CS3 Extended cannot open Google Earth files. If you have a Google Earth file, you can convert it to a Google Earth 4 format with the free version of Sketch-up.
So, theoretically if I could get a kmz into Google Earth 4 format, I could open it in Photoshop. But I haven't had any success importing a kmz or kml into SketchUp. Even just making a native sketchup file and trying to import that in psd gives a ram error.
Probably I'm wishing for the moon.

  • Cannot open .png file in PhotoShop Elements 9

    Hello,
I am unable to open a .png file on a PC with the following dimmensions:
    Width: 4070
    Height: 32305
I get the following error when I try to open to image file with PSE 9:
"could not complete request because of a problem with the file-format module interface"
The file was created on a Mac in Photoshop. However, Another employee was able to open the file on a PC in Photoshop CS.
She received the following message when she opened the file:
"The document Aplan_top5%_heatmap.png has an embedded color profile that does not match the RGB working space. The embedded profile will be used instead of the working one.
    Embedded Profile: Generic RGB profile
    Working Profile: sRGB Ie61966-2.1"
Can anyone explain to me why another employee can open the .png file in Adobe Photoshop CS (way older version) and not in PSE9?
Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

If the pixel dimensions your gave are right W 4070 x H 32305,
then the document is too big for pse9.
Elements will only open documents of 30,000 pixels on less,
either width or height. In other words if the document size is greater than 30,000
pixels in width or 30.000 pixels in height, photoshop elements won't open the file.
Newer versions of the full photoshop can handle documents of 300,000 pixels.

  • Quicktime won't open mpg files

I am trying to create a DVD with chapters/scenes from a single .avi file that won't open in Quicktime (nor iDVD nor iMovie).  It's the basic QT, not pro.  I can convert the .avi file to .mpg (using Burn or other tools), but the resulting file (.mpg) won't open in Quicktime either.  Seems if it won't open in Quicktime, it won't open in iDVD or iMovie, where I'd hoped to include chapter markers and menus.
Since this was created by Burn on my Macbook, I'd expect the resulting .mpg file to be readily useable by Qucktime, but it isn't.  Can someone first explain why QT won't open the file (VLC will open it), and second what other approach I might use?
    Thanks!

OK, again, I'm not using the avi file, but the mpg that was created by Burn from the avi file, so I wonder if the original is so "muxed up" as it might seem.  No mpg inside of an avi, if I understand you both correctly.  The original AVI is thus far MIA though I do think I burned it to a data disc.
Having the original AVI would let see what compression codecs were used to create it, how compressed the video was, see the encoded dimensions/display dimensions if PAR encoded, and give us some idea as to how much visual quality may have been lost in transcoding the AVI to MPG, as well as, save you one level re-compression if you were then able to start your work flow with the original source file. Too bad you can't find it.
"Muxed" in the case of your MPEG2/MP3 MPG file refers to the fact that the audio and video content is broken into blocks of video data which are interspersed with blocks of audio data in a single data stream to provide synchronizarion. QT files, on the other hand, contain up to 99 tracks of audio, video, and/or other forms of data the playback of which are all sybchronized to an external clocking system and is the main reason your MPG file is not natively QT compatible,
To play MPEG-2 content, whether in an elementary or a multiplexed stream, in a QT based application, you must first purchase and install the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20). Even then, for any of the unsupported audio compression formats you would need a secondary application like MPEG Streamclip (free) to bridge the spatial to temporal synchronization problem to make it compatible Apple QT-based applications like QT, iMovie, GarageBand, iDVD, etc. So, if you plan to use the MPG file as your source file, you will either have to purchase the MPEG-2 component or use a third-party application work flow.
All that said, I think I'm understanding how to go about this now.  Oddly, I do have Perian installed (I think because I once had a similar problem and had hoped it would help) and it's up to date.  It does not seem to fix my problems though.
This is why you need to pay attention to the actual codecs used in the AVI file and ensure that you have removed any third-party components which may conflict with the Perian component package as detailed on the support page of the Perian web site.
I'm using this file to try to learn a little about iDVD and iMovie (after all these years of using Macs!), so I had hoped to take these first steps without buying a commercial product.  I don't mind spinning my wheels trying different workflows so long as I'm learning and have options.  Garageband is an interesting idea as I had no idea it would handle video files.  Perhaps Audacity would also do the trick?  I don't have any need of creating markers at any particular points in the file, just something to ease the process of moving from one place to another in the video.  Markers at an even time interval would be fine, and I'd love to create a menu that allows navigation, though even that isn't crucial.
To learn more about iDVD, use help file, view the tutorials, and visit the iDVD forum. However, before you can do anything in iDVD, you will have to convert your MPEG2/MP3 MPG file to a QT compatible compression format. On my system, I would simply open the MPG file in MPEG Streamclip (which already has the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed) and convert the MPEG-2 video to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and the MP3 audio to Uncompressed audio. The resulting MOV file will then import to any Apple QT-based edit/conversion application on your computer (assuming the source file and your software is in proper working order).
I may end up trying Toast as I've considered it in the past and my needs aren't very sophisticated.  But being largely without work and mostly self-employed these last two years has made me a bit of a miser...
Toast should save you the cost of the MPEG-2 Playabck component but does cost much more than the $20 component. I am still using Titanium Toast 10 Pro but it may be aout time to upgrade to 11. It is a really good general purpose conversion/authoring appliction for all forms of target optical media.

  • How do I open png files and maintain transparency?

How do I open png files and maintain transparency?  I have many image files I had hoped to manage with aperture along with my photos.  I find that it wants to display them with a black bacground( they were designed for white) and when I want to edit that is kept even when I open with a psd format.  What do I do?
    Thanks

and when I want to edit that is kept even when I open with a psd format.  What do I do?
Transparency and layers are not supported in Aperture. You can import png-files or psd files with a transparent background and export the originals unchanged, but as soon as you edit them, the transparent background will be lost.
Aperture is an application to manage photos and not graphics compositions, sorry.

  • [SOLVED]Gimp can't open png files

    Hi,
since couple of days Gimp throws me an error when trying to open png files:

    (/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-png)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.
I am using gimp-devel from the AUR.
Is there somebody experiencing similar problems?
    cheers!

There was an update to libpng, and all aur packages that depend on it (such as gimp-devel) must be rebuilt.
Eh ... if you really wanted to know if someone else was experiencing similar problems, you would have looked at recent threads on these forums - and if you had done that, you would have seen much activity relating to libpng.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

I have tried File -> Open File... from within Pages, as well as by double-clicking the file within the iCloud folder in Finder.
