DW8 to CS3 Snippets??
Can CS3 be made to use my DW8 snippets? I see the Snippets
folder in my DW8
configuration folder, but CS3 lacks this folder. Is there a
way to get my
snippets from DW8 to CS3? I could not find any helpful tech
notes on the
subject when I searched the knowledge base. Thanks in
advance.

Renders fine in DW8, not CS3
Ok, I've got a site where the pages rendered fine in the
design view in DW8, but with CS3 the navbar on the left shows
shifted to the right. Renders fine in browsers too. That said, I
certainly wouldn't rule out that I've done something that's not
quite right, but I do tend to lean towards possible bug in CS3's
rendering.
Site is
http://www.radiodrone.net/
The navbar that starts with "Events" shows shifted over even
with the right side of the top left logo graphic when I view it in
DW CS3. Any thoughts on my bug vs adobe bug?Actually, the display problems are much more likely to be in
DW8 than in
DW9. When you see what you want in DW8, you assume that DW9's
display is
wrong, but I've always found it to be the other way around.

Creating recordsets in DW8 vs CS3
HI
I have recently upgraded to CS3 from Dreamweaver 8 and when i
create a new recordset using server behaviours it looks like
Dim rsNews
Dim rsNews_cmd
Dim rsNews_numRows
Set rsNews_cmd = Server.CreateObject ("ADODB.Command")
rsNews_cmd.ActiveConnection = MM_studio_STRING
rsNews_cmd.CommandText = "SELECT NewsActive, NewsTitle FROM
News WHERE NewsActive = True"
rsNews_cmd.Prepared = true
Set rsNews= rsTicker_cmd.Execute
rsNews_numRows = 0
as opposed to
Dim rsNews
Dim rsNews_numRows
Set rsNews= Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
rsNews.ActiveConnection = MM_studio_STRING
rsNews.Source = "SELECT NewsActive, NewsTitle FROM News WHERE
NewsActive = True"
rsNews.CursorType = 0
rsNews.CursorLocation = 2
rsNews.LockType = 1
rsNews.Open()
rsNews_numRows = 0
which is created by DW8, both using asp vb script
is the 1st one better and does anyone know why CS3 does it?
Thanks
MVery true if there is access to a cgi bin. I was presenting
the easiest
solution since security is not really an issue for a question
like "do you
like this site"

Reverting back to CS2/DW8 after CS3/DW3 trial expires
I tried installing trial DW9 while DW8 was open and was asked
to close DW8, from which I surmise that the trial "replaces" DW8
rather than running independantly of it. Is this correct or will I
be able to run both the trial and my licenced DW8 "simultaneously".
(i'm win xp in case that makes a diff.)
If not "simultaneously", will I at least be able to just
uninstall the trial DW9 and be reverted to DW8 or will I have to
reinstall CS2/DW8?
GaryThey are - these products always install as stand-alone and
independent
applications.

Does CS3 Overwrite DW8 on Trial Download
Another basic question. Tried to get answer in FAQs for Mac
OS X but cannot find.
I use original DW8 version. I wish to download the Trial
version of CS3.
Does the CS3 downloading and then trialling overwrite the
DW8? If I do not go to paid version and the 30 days expire do I
then have problems with original DW8?
If I go to full paid version of CS3 will it work with all the
files made on DW8 without problems?
Thankx for any input.Malcolm _ wrote:

I have been developing with DW since 1.0 and have upgraded
through every version. I have been trying to use CS3 since its
release, however I find that due to so many issues I revert back to
DW8.
CS3 - Crashes continuously - Yes I deleted the appropriate
file and restarted. It is better but still crashes.
CS3 - I open an existing webpage and try to apply a new
behavior, any behavior - Sorry making this change would require
changing code that is locked by a template or translator. This
change will be discarded.
CS3 - Tried to implement the highly touted Spry assets - a
ton of extra work for an extremley boring effect.
CS3 - Yep, just crashed again.
CS3 - Never imported all of my site definitions and ended up
having to re-set them up - about 40 thats a lot of time.
CS3 - In design view when you select a table or element it
places a HUGE measuring tool over the top of the box which blocks
your view and does not allow for you to select anything in that
region.
Honestly, since the move to Adobe this product has quickly
gone down hill. Multiple upgrades with absolutely no reasonable
improvements, yet a less stable application. Not to mention our
complete history of purchases for Macromedia DW purchases and Adobe
purchases have never come together in our online account making
setting up a new computer difficult.
Is this a B$tch session and a rant, yes, absolutely it is.
Its just so dissappointing to have to pay for upgrades that are
totally un-usable. I wonder how many other developers are suffering
these same issues, how many have reverted back to DW 8, how many
have found real value in the last few "upgrades".
I know there are little to no alternatives to DW, or Adobe
products in general.... perhaps this is the problem.

Most likely your previous versions didn't have testing
servers defined.

If you are speaking of changing a legacy server behavior,
yes, that's a good
suggestion. If you are speaking of changing a CS3 SB, then I
have not found
this to be the case.

Indeed.

This is a matter of opinion. I tend to disagree. Publishing a
document
like that is a huge drain on resources.

Table Height Missing in DW CS3?
I just upgraded from DW8 to CS3. The Properties panel is
missing the table height fields. I see width, but where height is
supposed to be is blank...
I tried searching for "table" in help and couldn't find an
answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
JoseIn response to the web community at large, each new version
of DW is moving
more and more in the direction of producing so-called valid
code and
formatting pages exclusively via CSS.
"height" has never been a valid attribute of the HTML
<table> tag, even
though some browsers have honoured it, so it has finally been
removed from
the DW interface.
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/tables.html#h-11.2.1
See
http://www.apptools.com/examples/tableheight.php
Also, FYI, here's an example of formatting a table-based
layout with CSS:
http://www.projectseven.com/tutorials/css/css_td/index.htm
In any case, it's good practice on the web to allow your
tables to collapse
to suit their content.

Installing Drewameaver CS3 alone
Is it possible to install Dreamweaver CS3 by itself with none
of the shared CS features?Pagemakers wrote:

This is the point I don't understand. How do you know you
have no
interest in them if you have never tried them? If Dreamweaver
had
integrated the ability to preview sites on mobile devices as
a core part
of the program, I imagine that many people would have said
"how cool".
Because Device Central is shared with Photoshop, Illustrator,
and Flash,
the reaction is "not interested".
> If I install DW CS, that and only that is all I expect

There's no argument that the installer should let you pick
and choose.
> I have reverted back to DW8 until this gets sorted. From

I have no idea what Adobe's plans are, but I would be very
surprised if
the policy is changed before the release of the next version.
As for
there being little difference between DW8 and CS3, I don't
agree. The
improvements in CSS rendering and CSS management are far from
insignificant. If you use client-side validation, the Spry
validation
widgets are stunning.

OSX CS3 - Quits upon Launch - never worked
I bought the 30 day trial DVD for Web Premium CS3. I have an
iBook - 700mhz. Running OSX - 10.4.11 currently.
I installed the whole CS3 web premium suite of applications
yesterday as soon as I received the DVD in the mail. I installed
all the programs, the one I was most anxious for was DW CS3. After
the successful installation, one by one opened each application.
Everything works EXCEPT Dreamweaver! UGH! I click the DW icon from
applications and open like I do with any other application. It
bounces up and down in the dock and then it shuts down.
"Dreamweaver encountered an error and quit unexpectedly" Oh great.
It has NEVER opened since I installed it yesterday. I have
uninstalled it (twice) and reinstalled - twice. Still the exact
same results. All CS3 applications work except DW. It never worked
once!!!
Since I have never been able to launch DW CS3 successfully, I
have no sites or files associated with it. I created a few sites
using DW8, which I still have on my computer. I was waiting to have
CS3 up and running before I removed DW8. I wanted to make sure I
had at least one version working.
I asked elsewhere and was told it would not be a conflict to
have DW8 and CS3 both installed on my iBook.
I have gone thru the forums for an hour, and do not see any
answers to my problem - but hopefully someone can offer some
guidance to my described situation.
Anyone? Any suggestions at all or links for things to check?

Thumbs Up To Upgrading To CS3 and Windows Vista
Hi Folks,
After several years of using Dreamweaver 8 on my antiquated,
10-year old, 700MZ DELL (upgraded from Windows 98SE to Windows XP),
I finally bought a new HP with Windows Vista. Then I upgraded from
DW8 to CS3 ($199) and couldn't be happier. I used to have the old
XP "login" issue (remembering the login) and was never able to
resolve it, despite using the recommened fix I found here, so it
was something I just lived with.
But that's all behind me now. This new DW works great with
Vista and so far, I have no issues whatsoever. Looking forward to
learning more about CS3 and all it's features.
I'm a total novice... (you can tell by viewing my website:
LBIBeachRentals.com ... LOL), but if I can do it, anyone can. Many
thanks again to everyone who has helped me in the past,
particularly Peggy and Murray from OC.quote:

and my copy of my dreamweaver program will not load up. I
downloaded the original version from a website so I don't have a
disc to reload onto my new computer. Here's my question. Do I need
to have the old version of dreamweaver 8 uploaded before I can use
the CS3 or CS4 version? Or, is the CS3 or CS4 a total package with
the old program being obsolete? I appreciate your answer!
I did much the same recently - (upgrade) from MX to CS3. I
was using a boxed set but all I needed were the qualifying serial
numbers of two MX programs for an upgrade. The applications were
self standing and I never had to install the old ones.
I would suggest turning the Vista Aero interface off -
particularly if you also have Fireworks - after that it is great. -
InDesign CS3 crashes on certain commands
I have Indesign Cs3. It was doing strange things so refreshed my preferences which solved the issue.
Since then, I cannot create a pdf from a new document, it crashes. But I can from a document created prior to the preferences refresh.
It also crashes when I do the find and change command?
If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. ThanksThanks Peter but still having the same issue.
Crash report below, if you or anyone can let me know if there is anything I can do from this?
Thanks

L5 SCORM Producer Error in CS3
I installed the L5 for DW8 into CS3 (there isn't one for CS3
specifically). When I import a course and fill in the metadata and
click OK, I get the following error message dialog twice in a row:
"While executing onLoad in sp_createmanifest.htm, a
JavaScript error occurred."
While it does seem to create the files needed, I'm not sure
they are correct and it doesn't remember anything I did past
importing the course after I exit, so metadata and all are lost if
I go back to edit.
Anyone have an idea on this?Well, to complicate matters, I tested the IMSMANIFEST that L5
produced in ADL's Conformance Test Suite and it says the manifest
is not in conformance. Additional problem for me is that I have to
run this in two environments, a LMS and an application that uses
the LMS API. It finds the API on the LMS, but not running in the
application environment. The obvious answer would seem to be that
something is wrong in the application environment, except I have
other SCORM compliant courses (not implemented using L5) that work.
Still no closer to a resolution here. -
I am about to upgrade from CS2 to CS3. I have a ton of
illustrator and dreamweaver documents. Am I going to have any
problems with my old documents when I try to open them in CS3?
Anything else I should know about?
Thanks, LaurenThere was no DW CS1/CS2, you know?
DW CS3 is less tolerant of poorly coded pages or of pages
that contain
invalid HTML than were earlier versions, so that may impact
your upgrade.

Template assigns local paths to links
Hey everyone: I have several templates using the same CSS
driven links, created with a UL; the LIs have individual IDs and
individual background graphics as markers; with <some> of the
templates, not all of them (but all using the same code -- snippets
for the semantic markup and the CSS) will assign 'local' paths to
the links for the LI's bg markers........then of course, they won't
work online, and I can't alter the code without dismissing the
template relationship..........argghh! Does this sound familiar to
anyone........?
Here's a link: it's the twitter/facebook/RSS link in the
sidebar that's the villain; it should have icons of the three as
markers...if you check the CSS in the doc, you'll see the local
paths.....
http://www.ruthinstitute.org/pages/downloads.htmlSend me offlist a concise explanation along with steps to
reproduce it, and
sample files, please.
