DW8 to CS4 changes

I've installed CS4 and at first glance, other than the
strange looking UI,
it's not providing any huge shocks. So far. A lot of software
has a help
area along the lines of "Differences between DW8 and CD4" to
give a good
rundown on changes and what's different....but I don't see
that. Is there
such a thing to give me a crash course in what's new (other
than just the
What's new in CS4). After all, I'm coming up from DW8!

Upgrade from DW8 to CS4. need some advise/info

Since 1 year I`m using DW8 (Studio 8) as I started making websites with this program. (it is far much interesting as the progam I had before).
This year I learned about PHP and databases and dynamic websites.
I`m thinking of getting CS4.
Now I have some questions for which I hope you can give me some info or advise :
1) Can I only upgrade the DW8 out of Studio 8 upto CS4?
2) Is there much difference between them.   Are the buttons or option to be found somewhere else or are they still in the same place?
3) Can I still use my old page of DW8 in CS4?   Or do I need to convert or rebuild them?
4) Any common bugs in CS4. I do ask this one as I`m not that technical to overcome some bugs that seems easy to pro`s.

No, that's not correct. "Upgrade" refers only to the price you pay. Regardless of which version you buy, the Studio 8 software remains on your computer, and can still be used.
However, as I said before, you cannot run Dreamweaver 8 and Dreamweaver CS4 at the same time on a Windows computer. If, for some reason, you want to use Dreamweaver 8, you must close Dreamweaver CS4. After you have finished working with Dreamweaver 8, close it, and then you can relaunch Dreamweaver CS4.

You are confusing me.
With `full` version I mean : the higher price.
With `upgrade` I mean the cheaper price.
From the earlier messages I understood that an `upgrade` (thus the cheaper price) of 1 piece of Studio 8 is not possbile.
So to have DW8 (out of Studio 8) changed into DW CS4 I have the following option :
- I purchase the full (thus higher price) version of Dreamweaver CS4.   Then I can install CS4 and still all programs of Studio 8 can be used.
or
- I purchase an `upgrade` (thus the cheaper price) from Studio 8 to CS4 Web Standard. Here we go from one suite to another and all programs are updated/upgraded.
Hope I`m out of the confusion now.

Hmmm.
I am using php to plug a head and a content part together.
The Doctype info is placed in the head.php.
So if I am editing the content.php Dreamweaver can't know the Doctype. This may be the problem.
I set "Presetting -> New Document -> Standardt-Document type" to HTML 4.01 Transitional. I don't know the exact English terms. I am not sure if this has an affect to an already existing document.
There can I check and set the Doctype of an already existing file?

How do I get CS4 Change Quality Presets to be used and remove black bars?

In Encore CS4 I CAN change the quality preset to what I want, but then when I go back to the project it does not stick. I tried to get to transcode settings, but they are greyed out. There does not seem to be a way to "USE" the quality preset I have saved!
This is a single video clip that I sent to Encore from Premier Pro CS4 so I could make DVD and BD's. However it seems I am unable to make a DVD at 4 Mbps (so I can combine this Premier Pro Project with another on a single DVD) no matter what I try. Also I notice the BD I made was not m2v like I am used to in CS3, and therefore are not sure I can combine it with a menu and another clip on a single BD as I have done numerous times in CS3 Encore.
I also notice as I look at preview, and then also when a made a default setting DVD that there are black bars on either side of the picture. This was a 1440X1080 60i project in Premier Pro CS3 and I am desireing to make ait a 1920 X 1080 DVD.
Neither of these were problems in Premier Pro CS3 and I am thinking the way around this is to spend the day or two and redo the project in CS3. I have done many projects successfully in CS3 and mistakenly thought I could just pick up the project in CS4 and be successful again. If anyone knows how to resolve these in CS4, it would save this extra work, if not, I will join the crowd with CS4 "issues" and go back to CS3.

First, on the black bars. I do not want them at all. I cannnot post a screenshot now as
file attachments are turned off temporarily, but they are about 5% on either side. Totally unacceptable especially when in CS3 when exported to Encore there are NO black bars either visible in Encore or in the resulting DVD's
On the options and is the preset saved. I can close Encore and open it afresh and find the preset that I saved listed in the dropdown of presets with the name I saved it as and all the settings the way I want them.
On the issue of Transcode settings when selecting the resource... When I select the resource in the Project panel, or in the Timeline tab, the Transcode settings is greyed out. I have consulted the help screens and forums for various ways to change the transcode settings and none of the suggested ways work.
It looks like my CS4 install does not work the way yours does. I am about to completely unistall CS4 and CS3 and all other Adobe products and try a fresh reinstall to see if that works. Most likely I will simply reinstall CS#, since that works, and abandon CS4 for now as I am getting way behind on my work, and know I can finish with CS3. I have also heard form others that Sony Vegas is really solid and does not have all these weird bugs such as seen in CS4 and CS5, and is a much less bloated product and does the encodings faster. Since it is also less expensive, this seems too good to be true, but work a trial. So first rip every Adobe product off my PC and format the HD and start fress with JUST CS3 and get my work done. Then try Vegas to see if it is as good as my buddies say, if so bye bye Adobe!

Photoshop cs4 - changes seen only in small layers panel window

Hello. I am operating from a mac, using Photoshop, CS4. When I make any kind of change or alteration to my image, the change shows up only in the layers panel small display window, not on the actual image. I have the correct layer selected etc.

Is the layer you are editing the topmost in your layers panel? Is it getting obscurred by a layer above it — perhaps even a blank white layer?

Dreamweaver CS3 to CS4 Changes

Creating a text box over a photo.
I have been using a technique in CS3 learned from
"totaltraining.com"
I could take a photo into photoshop and slice it into areas
where I want to create a text block and use the photoshop save to
web application to write the html code and create the images. then
I open the html file in Dreamweaver CS3 and select the sliced block
image that I want to add text on top of and copy the link
information, Then Delete the image and add the hight measurement to
keep the space from shifting then paste the link information into
the box background in the control pallet at the bottom. Then insert
text on top of the background image. This gives me the ability to
use the page properties to add a over all background color or image
and still have a text box with the photo behind it.
The problem is that with new Dreamweaver CS4 I can not find
where to paste the link information. The control pallet has changed
and I can not find out how to add the image back into the cell as a
background. I have tried to just place the image into the cell but
everything shifts.
I know their is probably a better way to do this I am just
learning and trying to figure this out so any advice would be
helpful.
I would just use Dreamweaver3 but the demo I was working on
expired and I bought the CS4 package.
I have a website 80% finished and now I'm stuck.

Things that you 'used to be able to do but cannot in CS4' are
generally
things that you should never have done in the first place. A
big thrust of
CS4 is to remove things from DW that created invalid or
non-best practice
HTML. This method certainly sounds like a good candidate -
for example:

There are now two buttons on the Property inspector: HTML and
CSS. Click
the HTML one.

Which is why you should never use "wizard" HTML.

CS4 change adjustment layer

In CS3 it was possible to change an adjustment layer after it was created, i.e. duplicate a curves adjustment layer and then go Layer>Change to make that layer a levels adjustment layer (or some other type of adjustment layer). Is it possible to do this in CS4 and if so how?

In answer to your question about why I would want to do this, the curves to level was just an example. But in the past, with CS4, if I had an adjustment layer with a mask, that was for example, an exposure layer, and then I wanted to reduce the saturation of that same masked area, I would just duplicate the layer and change the layer content to hue/sat. Of course, there are lots of other ways to do this, copy the mask or selection and then make a new layer with a newly created mask, but those other ways all seem to be more cumbersome. I thought it was a nice feature in CS3 but apparently it does not exist in CS4 — asked the question thinking it might be some key stroke and not documented since I could find no reference to in in the documentation for CS4.

CS4 changing selected code

Before I contact Adobe, is anyone else having problems with
selected text changing during copying and inserts DW CS4?
I am having problems with copy/paste etc., most frequent when
using keyboard shortcuts:
1. I mark some code text to cut or copy and when I do so the
marked area is expanded, sometimes to include the entire code in
the file.
and/or
2. I mark the position to copy to, or code text to be
replaced, and a large amount of the file becomes marked and
replaced on inserting or replacing.
3. When changing tabs, sections of or the entire code text
becomes selected.

Yes -- and it is driving me crazy! It is taking six or seven
attempts at selecting, copying and pasting just to do a simple
copy/paste operation.
1. If I just click somewhere in a php code page, it often
selects the entire php section.
2. If I try and click and drag to select, it will jump and
select a huge section of code both above and below my mouse
pointer.
3. If I happen to be lucky enough to get the piece of code
selected and then right click and click on Copy, it jumps and again
selects a huge chunk of the code.
4. Even if I get a section selected and then press
shift+delete, it still often jumps and selects a whole bunch of
text.
5. If I start a selection at a point, and drag my mouse down,
when the pointer gets to the bottom of the page, the scroll bar
jumps up to the beginning point of the selection and redrags down,
and keeps cycling like this till I let go of the mouse.
This is really detrimental to production and I am wondering
if I switch to CS4 to soon.
I have a Logitech MX Laser mouse and wonder if it might be
related to the problem.

CS4--changing workspace/menu/tools from grey to color?

Ok, CS4, to my eyes is very grey and flat. I know how to change the background color, but is there anyway to add more color to the interface in general...tools, menu or palette color??? Yes I do know that we can highlight individual menu items on drop down.

I've always worked full-screenswitching modes with the 'F' key anywayexcept for doing small, quick stuff. Mac OS X's Exposé feature of using hot corners to get windows out of the way still allows for drag and drop between open apps. So the AppFrame mode is kind of redundant to me. I s'pose it's OK to have as an option; I'd have to work awhile with it to see if I'd like it. But as much as I've worked with Windows OS (enough to be able to get around intuitively and be productive), I just never really liked or got used to having almost every app take up the full monitor by default.

DW8 vs CS4

I recently had to restore my Mac from a backup and DW 8
refuses to run.
Message says to reinstall but I can't find my original cd's.
Since it
seems impossible to find a trial download to which I can
apply my
registration number I have to decide on whether to buy DW8
(if I can
even find it) or CS3 or CS4. I'm using a Mac OS10.5.6.

[CS4] Change color of Sequence markers

Not having found any hints that changing color of sequence markers is possible either googling or the help file I'm hoping against hope its possible and I'm just not using the right strings in my searches.
So is it possible to change the color of sequence markers in CS4. To me the default is hard to find on timeline and not hardly distinguishable from the center marker you can use to drag the work area around. Making them a more noticable color would be pretty useful I think.

Upgrade from DW8 to CS4

I have recently upgraded my computer and am now using Vista instead of XP. I maintain a website (http:/wingello.rfsa.org.au) and am having a hell of a job in getting started. I found that DW8 was not going to go anywhere with Vista so have upgraded to CS4 I have transferred all the files associated with the site over to the new computer and do not really have clue on getting started again. I was quite comfortable in using DW8 but just need a bit of assistance in getting my site to work with CS4.
Can anyone help me please?

I too am a migration-ist coming from older Macromedia days-- Now considering DW4 Upgrade
Personally, i think it is about personal contexts, like where we have come from. Or where we want to go. The Intros and Tutorials generally assume we all come from exactly the same context. That our brain has had a very refreshed, robotic reboot. That at least we have a very dedicated digital context, is assumed.
Personally, i think most development investment goes towards high-end stuff to make the latest-greatest e-commerce websites...
Yet, i bet that there is a large number of user-buyers of web software, who want far simpler website features. Especially simple work-flows for personal contexts. (On this point- Yes there is a new breed of blog-software which is "simpler". However, it will not accept nor convert an older, existing website which includes hundreds of files. So who wants to manually rewrite a site in a new, very restrictive and very stylized manner?)
(It would be delightful, if DW could help small business people to get into e-commerce, without so many high end features. A guided step process througha plug-in might be nice, if it could adapt to differing contexts of small users.)
Example-- I did buy CS3... It was very hard to "Define A Site" ... Often, CS3 DW wants me to redine the site, which is crazy, because it usually refuses to accept the existing site on my hard drive. In my case it is the very same site originally started in Adobe Site Mill of many years ago. Each year i updated site and softwares. Very simple text, pictures and links.
I never developed the confidence to use automatic link fixing in CS3, (because of this failure to smoothly accept my HD site). There is not even a comprehensive glossary of standardized DW definitions for DW words. Therefore, how is one to be sure of manuals? Absence of contextually-defined manuals is not confidence building.
I'm considering paying for DW CS4, another post, yet. Insights appreciated.

CS4: Change color of line indicator/outline tool (not line itself)

I couldn't find an answer in any of the resources - possibly because I don't know the right term.
I am talking about the line that is displayed during the period that you draw a line - from the time you click the mouse, until you release it. There's a thin greyscale line indicating the outline of the item you are drawing.
I'm working on ultrasound images, full of greyscale spots. In order to draw lines as precisely as possible, I would prefer that the outline that is displayed while I'm trying to draw my line as correctly as possible, has another color.
I know how to change the color of lines that I have drawn, that are part of the image. What I need is to change the color of the line indicator/helper tool that ONLY shows WHEN I'm drawing a line, and is not really a part of the image.

It's a well-known shortcoming that the path that's drawn with the pen is hard to see under some circumstances.
One thing: Its appearance is a little different with OpenGL Drawing disabled vs. enabled. What's your setting (Edit - Preferences - Performance)?
If you're not in need of the OpenGL features, disabling OpenGL Drawing could be helpful in making your paths somewhat more visible. Such a change is not without downsides, but perhaps it could serve as a workaround for you.

Help! Kuler in Illustrator CS4 - changes colours completely

Why is it that when I use the in-built Kuler extension in Illustrator CS4 the colour values are completely different when I "Add selected themes to swatches" to those on the Kuler website.
As an random example, take this theme: soothing by milolily   (http://kuler.adobe.com/#themeID/68960)
Here's what the colours are on the Kuler website and what they end up being in the Swatch palette in Illustrator:
R:52, G:97, B:107     --->     R:70, G:107, B:129
R:52, G:21, B:54     --->     R:82, G:48, B:55
R:123, G:137, B:156     --->     R:147, G:154, B:169
R:14, G:22, B:51     --->     R:26, G:32, B:63
R:160, G:189, B:140     --->     R:182, G:192, B:167
Check out the screenshot to see how huge the difference is visually.
I thought perhaps it was something to do with whether the Document Color Mode was set to RGB or CMYK but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any ideas anyone?? It's driving me insane!

It's because theme is saved in CMYK. The RGB values displayed in kuler website are as per the Web color conversion whereas Illustrator utililises their own conversion. If you notice, in CMYK documents, values are displayed correctly.
Hope this resolves your doubt.
