DW8 vs CS4

I recently had to restore my Mac from a backup and DW 8
refuses to run.
Message says to reinstall but I can't find my original cd's.
Since it
seems impossible to find a trial download to which I can
apply my
registration number I have to decide on whether to buy DW8
(if I can
even find it) or CS3 or CS4. I'm using a Mac OS10.5.6.
Any advice? Thanks

Yes, it's very weird. I agree with Jon. For me personally,
the upgrade was
extremely worthwhile.

  • Upgrade from DW8 to CS4. need some advise/info

Since 1 year I`m using DW8 (Studio 8) as I started making websites with this program. (it is far much interesting as the progam I had before).
This year I learned about PHP and databases and dynamic websites.
    I`m thinking of getting CS4.
Now I have some questions for which I hope you can give me some info or advise :
    1) Can I only upgrade the DW8 out of Studio 8 upto CS4?
    2) Is there much difference between them.   Are the buttons or option to be found somewhere else or are they still in the same place?
    3) Can I still use my old page of DW8 in CS4?   Or do I need to convert or rebuild them?
    4) Any common bugs in CS4.  I do ask this one as I`m not that technical to overcome some bugs that seems easy to pro`s.
    Thanks in advance
    Kind regards
    martine

No, that's not correct. "Upgrade" refers only to the price you pay. Regardless of which version you buy, the Studio 8 software remains on your computer, and can still be used.
However, as I said before, you cannot run Dreamweaver 8 and Dreamweaver CS4 at the same time on a Windows computer. If, for some reason, you want to use Dreamweaver 8, you must close Dreamweaver CS4. After you have finished working with Dreamweaver 8, close it, and then you can relaunch Dreamweaver CS4.
    David,
    You are confusing me.
With `full` version I mean : the higher price.
With `upgrade` I mean the cheaper price.
From the earlier messages I understood that an `upgrade` (thus the cheaper price) of 1 piece of Studio 8 is not possbile.
So to have DW8  (out of Studio 8) changed into DW CS4 I have the following option :
    - I purchase the full (thus higher price) version of Dreamweaver CS4.   Then I can install CS4 and still all programs of Studio 8 can be used.
    or
    - I purchase an `upgrade` (thus the cheaper price) from Studio 8 to CS4 Web Standard.  Here we go from one suite to another and all programs are updated/upgraded.
Hope I`m out of the confusion now.

  • DW8 to CS4 changes

I've installed CS4 and at first glance, other than the
    strange looking UI,
it's not providing any huge shocks. So far. A lot of software

  • Upgrade from DW8 to CS4

I have recently upgraded my computer and am now using Vista instead of XP. I maintain a website (http:/wingello.rfsa.org.au) and am having a hell of a job in getting started. I found that DW8 was not going to go anywhere with Vista so have upgraded to CS4 I have transferred all the files associated with the site over to the new computer and do not really have clue on getting started again. I was quite comfortable in using DW8 but just need a bit of assistance in getting my site to work with CS4.
    Can anyone help me please?
    David

I too am a migration-ist coming from older Macromedia days-- Now considering DW4 Upgrade
Personally, i think it is about personal contexts, like where we have come from. Or where we want to go. The Intros and Tutorials generally assume we all come from exactly the same context. That our brain has had a very refreshed, robotic reboot.  That at least we have a very dedicated digital context, is assumed.
Personally, i think most development investment goes towards high-end stuff to make the latest-greatest e-commerce websites...
Yet, i bet that there is a large number of user-buyers of web software, who want far simpler website features. Especially simple work-flows for personal contexts. (On this point- Yes there is a new breed of blog-software which is "simpler". However, it will not accept nor convert an older, existing website which includes hundreds of files. So who wants to manually rewrite a site in a new, very restrictive and very stylized manner?)
(It would be delightful, if DW could help small business people to get into e-commerce, without so many high end features. A guided step process througha plug-in might be nice, if it could adapt to differing contexts of small users.)
Example-- I did buy CS3... It was very hard to "Define A Site" ...  Often, CS3 DW wants me to redine the site, which is crazy, because it usually refuses to accept the existing site on my hard drive.  In my case it is the very same site originally started in Adobe Site Mill of many years ago. Each year i updated site and softwares. Very simple text, pictures and links.
I never developed the confidence to use automatic link fixing in CS3, (because of this failure to smoothly accept my HD site). There is not even a comprehensive glossary of standardized DW definitions for DW words. Therefore, how is one to be sure of manuals? Absence of  contextually-defined manuals is not confidence building.
I'm considering paying for DW CS4, another post, yet.  Insights appreciated.
PS- Nice fire fighters site. It appears one suggestion might be made, how to get menus to display downwards? That might be just an issue with Firefox-on Mac, here.    Context

  • DW8 Forms

I tried building a form in DW8 but I suspect I can't do so until I set up a php or data base backend. Even if I do set up a database, don't you have to build a form first to make sure it works and tests properly? I'm not sure that DW can build forms but only connect to them. I've been using Wufoo to build forms, which works very well but I have to copy the code into DW, a bit of a work around. Or is this the way DW works?
    Thanks for the help.
    DC

I think you are confusing forms with dynamic data manipulation.
A form is a simple html way of collecting data from the user (can be html or php, asp, etc.), and this can be as simple as a contact form which then sends the information to the designated person (via a server script), or a form that collects data and inserts this into a database.
Dreamweaver can create both of these, please see either your documentation or the following link -
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7849a .html
(this is for CS4 but little has changed in creating the standard (not spry), form between versions DW8 and CS4).

  • CS4 - can't delete files/folders - doesn't match windows directory but works fine in DW8

When I delete files/folders in CS4 the deletion is not reflected in my local windows directory.
And if I exit CSW and reload CS4 all the files and folders are back again.
I have never used cloaking but ran uncloak all with no result.
But all this workd fine in DW8.
    Any thoughts?

Oh... well  this is interesting... disk utility is say that it IS formatted MS-DOS (FAT32). Is that what's causing these errors? This thing has been running with my mac beautifully for years. So do I pull my stuff off, wipe it and reformat it for a mac? Or since it is FAT 32 can I hook it up to a windows computer and fix the problem? Since I had the wrong format, I can delete the files but if I don't fix the format this will keep happening?

  • How to change text color in CS4

Hey everyone. I know I'm not fluent in Dreamweaver, but had DW8 before upgrading to CS4 and I'm pretty handy with it. In version 8, if I wanted to change a text color, I simply highlighted the text and picked a color. No worries.
However in CS4, I seem to be only have that ability in my CSS properties, (not HTML properties). Then when I try to change the color, it gives me a dialogue box asking questions such as "new CSS", "for this page only", etc. and I don't understand what I'm supposed to do.
Can someone tell me in a user-friendly way (step-by-step), how to simply change a text color on a page? I went to the help topics and it said to use the 'color-picker', but that takes me back to my original problem.
I'm either doing something terribly wrong, or ADOBE has made a simple task into brain surgery!
    Thanks in advance for assistance!
    Mark

Beginning with CS3, DW became more compliant with W3C web standards which call for content (HTML) being separate from style (CSS).  Thus you now have two properties boxes: one for HTML content and another for CSS styles.
Create a few CSS classes using the CSS style panel.
    CSS:
    .red {color: red}
    .blue {color: blue}
    .green {color: green}
Highlight a word or sentence on your page and apply the appropriate class to your HTML.
    HTML:
    <p class="red"> this is red text</p>
    <p class="blue"> this is blue text with <span class="green">GREEN WORDS</span> in the middle</p>

  • Dreamweaver 8 and DW cs4 or DW cs5 on the same system?

    Hi all,
I'm using DW8 + MX Kollection 3.7 pro for large sites and I I'm thinking to install DW CS4 or CS5 along with it.
    So, my question:
can I install DW CS4 + ADDT or DW CS5 (alone) on the same system?
    Do they interfere each other?
I don't mind working on the same website with different version of DW.
But it could happen that I will need to edit a page of a website with a different verison of DW. Is there any problem to do this?
For example: will DW CS4 + ADDT retain all server behaviuors created in DW 8? or, at least, will DW CS4 editing break server behaviour so that I will not able to work again on the page with DW8?
Sorry for all these /dumb) question but I fear upgrading (every application) will break something working right away.
    TIA
    tony

    So, my question:
can I install DW CS4 + ADDT or DW CS5 (alone) on the same system?

Yes, you can install them on the same system, and no, they won't interfere with each other.  Each version of DW installs as a complete, standalone application.
But it could happen that I will need to edit a page of a website with a different verison of DW. Is there any problem to do this?
    No there's not a problem.

  • CS4 Help with spry menu bar. Want Top Centered and Subs left-justified.

Hi there, using DW8 mostly, but have the trial version of CS4
for the spry menu bar. WinXP.
Can someone help me with the spry menu bar on this page? I'd
like the main menu to be centered, as it looks better for
appearance, and the sub menus to be left-justified.
    http://www.manmeetswoman.com/example4.html
But I can't seem to do that, if I make the main menu
centered, it seems to override the submenus even if I make a class
just for the submenu to be left-justified.
Am I doing something wrong or is this not possible?
And the menu bar looks horrific in IE6. I assume it looks ok
in IE7 and above. Can someone help me with a code just for IE6 for
    this?

    audio90 wrote:
Not quite what I was looking for. I'm wanting the top menu to be grouped together and to the right and the submenu boxes to all a single square box, not just with backgrounds extending only the length of the word. Also, your menu bar doesn't display properly in IE6 either.
    1) You should be able to achieve a square box for your submenu items by fixing the widths of all of your submenu items to something larger than the content of your widest submenu <li> tag.  This should be achievable with a single change of setting in the following CSS rule.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li {
         width:???em;
Set your width using em units, so that the box shrinks and grows with the size of the text when the latter is changed by the user.
    2) Getting your top menu items to group together to the right may be more difficult as the entire menu bar is built on an HTML list structure with left-floated <li> tags.  If it is possible, then you should begin your experimentation with the following CSS rule
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li {
         float:right;
Change the float property from left to right, as I have indicated.
My suspicion, however, is that many subsequent adjustments will have to be made.  So, back up your current CSS file before you begin.

That particular extension works perfectly not only in DW8,
    but also in DW
CS4. The reason it is grayed out is because it requires there
    to be an
absolutely positioned element on your page first.

  • Can I transfer the font list into Dreamweaver CS4?

    Hi and thanks for reading,
I just installed Dreamweaver CS4 after depending on DW 8 for
the last few years. It's a fantastic upgrade. But I miss my old
font list. I spent a lot of time creating a great list of cascading
fonts for my style sheets in DW 8. Is there any way to grab that
list and import (if that's the right word) it into Dreamweaver CS4?
I'm referring to the list of installed fonts that DW displays
after typing the CSS font property.

    > In Vista, does is customized version there or in
    > %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\...
I think it can go either place. The former location is
    vulnerable to a
reinstall, though, while the latter is not. I'm assuming
    that's what you
    are asking....

Hi, I am keen to use Adobe's 'Incontext Editing' service for CMS.  However I am using Dreamweaver ver 8 and it seems that this service is only available to CS4 users?

  • DW CS4 doesn't display updated images edited in PS

    Old way with DW8:
I would change/update an image in PhotoShop – save
over the old image – and DW would automatically
    display the new version.
    New way (DW CS4):
I do the same as above, and DW does NOT automatically display

I’ve tried closing out the page and re-opeing and that
doesn’t work. And I’ve tried re-inserting the image; no
luck. Stranger still – if I upload the new image to the
