  • Convert .dwg to .pdf in Acrobat X Standard

    I have Acrobat X Standard running on Windows 7.  Can I convert .dwg files to .pdf files without having AutoCAD installed?

    With Acrobat X Standard, you cannot convert .dwg to .pdf without installing AutoCAD but with Acrobat X or XI Professional, you can.

  • Converting C3D 2009 dwgs to PDF

    Greetings All,
         A question in regards to using Adobe 8 Pro to convert AutoDesk C3D dwgs to pdfs, doesn't like it!  We have currently migrated to AutoDesk Civil 3D 2009 and the create file command/icons do not show up and do not seem available for this cad version.  Does anyone know whether there is a compatibility issue between Adobe 8 Pro and C3D.  One of our users create pdfs and needs to include the layers as well, Adobe 8 seems to still work well with pre-2009 dwgs.  We have gone through the normal repair, updates, etc. even tried to bring the cui menu from Adobe into C3D (we get icons but the commmand is inactive).  Are these issues potentially resolved in Adobe 9?

    Hi,
    this the answer from Oracle concerning the issue:
    -- the IBR must be on a win machine to have WinNativeConverter installed and enabled AND the native application installed on the IBR machine. In this case, MS Project >and MS Publisher.
    - IBR does not support the conversion of mpp or pub files on linux.
    Hence enhancement request has been created for the same.
    UCM needs to clean up the File Format Wizard to make it clearer as to which conversions are supported on various OS configurations.
    You can check the bug for reference where the status is 11 - Code Bug (Response/Resolution) which means "Bug is being worked by Development".
    Hence IBR on linux do not support the file formats - .mpp and .pub conversions.Take care!

  • Using Distiller for .dwg to PDF conversion

    Hi all,
    I am bit confused about using distiller for converting .dwg to PDF conversion. I need a server application which takes a .dwg file as an input and depending on the file attributes, converts it into a suitable PDF file (A4, A3, etc. depending on the .dwg file). Is using distiller a good idea or I should be looking into other tools?? Can Livecycle PDF generator handle such a thing??Kindly help me in this regard..

    Distiller converts PostScript to PDF, nothing else. Distiller Server
    is technically identical.
    So to do this with Distiller you would
    (a) need Distiller Server and
    (b) need to make your own process to convert DWG to PostScript,
    perhaps by automating AutoCAD.
    LiveCycle PDF Generator, however, includes a package of conversion
    tools for a list of specific file types. I don't know if DWG files are
    in the list - there is a LiveCycle PDF Generator forum, so I recommend
    trying there.

  • How to convert DWG to PDF 8.5x11 page size? using VueBean.convert()

    I am able to convert dwg files to pdf files. The dwg can be very large in size (example: 32" x 42"), but I need the pdf output to fit an 8.5" x 11" page size. I am using the VueBean object and the VueServlet to perform the conversion. I am using the  VectorConvertOptions to set the conversion options but no matter which options I try I can't get the output to fit 8.5" x 11" page size. I have tried varying the scale factor but that doesn't seem to affect the ouput at all. Can anyone tell me which options will get the pdf output to fit 8.5" x 11" page size? Maybe its a matter of scaling but I can't seem to figure it out. Please help.
       VectorConvertOptions opts = new VectorConvertOptions();
                opts.setStepsPerInch(1);
                PAN_CtlFileInfo fi = vueBean.getFileInfo();
                PAN_CtlRange ps = vueBean.getPageSizeEx();
                if (fi.getType() == PAN_CtlFileInfo.PAN_DocumentFile) {
                ps = fi.getPageSize();
                opts.setInputRange(ps);
                opts.setArea(ConvertOptions2D.AREA_EXTENTS);
                opts.setPageSize(1);
                opts.setScaleType(ConvertOptions2D.TYPE_SCALE);
                opts.setScaleFactor(200);
                opts.setWidth(Math.abs(ps.width()));
                opts.setHeight(Math.abs(ps.height()));
                opts.setUnits(Constants.UNITS_FILE);
                opts.setPages(ConvertOptions2D.AUTO);
                opts.setFromPage(1);
                opts.setToPage(fi.getPagesNumber());
                opts.setFormat("PCVC_PDF");
                opts.setModes(PAN.CTLMODE_MONOCHROME);
                opts.setSubFormatID(0);
                opts.setFileName(fi.getDocName().toLowerCase().replace(".dwg",".pdf"));
                vueBean.convert(opts);

    This is not possible using the convert option. This is a product limitation. Another possibility would be to use the print options instead of the convert option.

  • Unable to create PDF from dwg Files

    Hi All,
    I suspect this question is old hat but if anybody can provide a solution it would be greatly appreciated. Acrobat 8.3.0 professional edition Windows XP sp3.
    It used to work a long time ago but when I try to convert a dwg to PDF the message "An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF". I looked at the "create PDF" options in preferences and only security options are shown for Autocad files so I know something is amiss.
    I have tried adding a printer using the ini file in the xtras folder in Acrobat and when I look at printing preferences (before and then after the install) all the boxes are blank - again an indication something is wrong?
    I have tried the repair function in the control panel - still no good.
    Any (polite) suggestions other than buying X?
    Many thanks

    Interestingly, "PDFMOUTLOOK" is apparenly related to PDF Maker for Outlook. It has also been suggested to be Malware (not good). That would suggest you may have some corruption. I am not saying you do, but just what is hinted at by a web search.
    In terms of the printing process. The Adobe PDF printer creates a PS file. With Acrotray active, this PS file causes Acrotray to activate Distiller in the background and complete the conversion of the PS file to PDF. That is the basic conversion process used by Acrobat to create PDF files. Distiller is always in the picture, it just may be running in the background. If Acrotray is not active, the process will stall. Since you are seeing a Distiller log screen, your process seems to be working.
    PDF Maker is basically a preprocessor for the Adobe PDF printer. The preprocessor inserts PDF Marks into the PS file that is created to allow the conversion to PDF to include bookmarks, links, etc. My suggestion about PDF Maker (since the print process seems to work) is that there may be something in PDF Maker that is causing the problem. From the web search, it appears it may even be a virus type of aspect that hit your PDF Maker. Again, I am not saying that is the case, only suggesting it as a possibility. If you can create the PDF from the printer, then the basic process of creating PDFs is working and it is then a process of checking out the problems with PDF Maker. For that, I typically suggest turning all of the options off and then adding them back in to see what triggers the problem. You are basically in a trouble shooting mode and need to isolate the problem.

  • Printing to PDF from DWG

    I try and print PDF's in AutoCad MEP 2009/2010 and I will loose information and or information does not show up on the finished PDF.  What could be the problem? Help I have no faith that Adobe Acobat is doing its job. I am using Abobe Acrobat 8 Standard with all updates.

    Yes, willing to help, printing to PDF form DWG would loose information such as layers and line type, and texts may not searchable, because regular PDF file does not store such information, and if you are using SHX fonts, then texts may not searchable in the PDF file.
    AutoCAD 2009 has it’s build in PDF creation tool, please find it from the File -> publish menu, if you have many drawings need to be plotted, then DWG to PDF converter would accelerate this process, it makes things much easier for the printing settings.
    Steve.

  • Using do pdf, my dwg 's upsidedown text is being flipped/reversed

    I am converting a dwg to pdf using dopdf. My upside down text is being reversed in the process. Is this a setting?

    You are using a 3rd party application to create your PDF and not something of Adobe (e.g., Acrobat).
    You will have to ask at the customer support provided by the 3rd party application vendor.
    Be well...

  • ECL Viewer quality PDF/DWG

    Hi,
    We are running ECL Viewer 7.0 PL1. We are using it to view both PDF and DWG. DWG is best viewed in monochrome, but PDF is best viewed in color (removing the tick in monochrome).
    Is it possible to have different settings for the ECL viewer to automatically switch between color when PDF is opened, and monochrome when DWG is opened?
    Or, is it possible to define (I tried but failed) a greyscale black/white which does a fine job on both PDF and DWG?
    Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kind Regards
    Soren

    Hi Christoph,
    Please dont regret anything, the fact alone that you spend your time on helping us on the forum, is very much appreciated! Your previous answers in other threads has helped me with several regedit entries.
    I have now installed ECL 7.0 PL4, and "out of the box" it looks great, both DWG and PDF are in great quality.
    Our issue persists tho, and maybe you have a solution for the problem.
    We want to view PDF in color but DWG in monochrome. or atleast, both PDF and DWG in high greyscale quality. Is this somehow possible to specify greyscale in regedit, or to specify color for PDF and monochrome for DWG?
    in short - we want to get rid of the colors in the DWG files, but we dont want to have bad quality on PDF.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best regards,
    Soren

  • PDF's from AutoCAD with Excel tables

    I have been trying to plot an excel spreadsheet within LT2009. I am using "Adobe PDF" driver, and end up with extra lines running vertically through the excel table (see column 9 in image below).
    I am convinced that it is an Adobe driver issue as it doesn't happen with Autocad's dwg to pdf driver. And I would use the ACAD driver but it won't plot a true A3 size (large marging and cuts off my border)..
    Using Autocad LT2009, Acrobat 9 Pro and MS Office 2010.
    Would appreciate any insight.
    Thanks
    Holly

    Good day,
    Do you have Adobe Acrobat X Professional installed?  PDFMaker, the Adobe PDF icon you were referring to, will install into AutoCad 2008 and later with Acrobat X  Converting via PDFMaker should preserve your layers.

  • Printing to PDF (custom page size) from AutoCAD Won't Work Anymore

    The DWG to PDF driver provided with AutoCAD 2013 will not save my artwork to a high enough resolution for me to use.  See attached screen shots of the PDF's printed by AutoCAD's DWG to PDF driver.
    The only PDF print driver that I have found that will is the Adobe PDF driver provided with my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro software.  See attached screen shot of the PDF printed by the Adobe PDF driver.  HOWEVER, I can only print to a standard paper size and I MUST print to a custom page size.  When I try printing to a custom page size it will no longer let me save the PDF.  It simply skips the save window.  It used to work fine up until this past week, but when I came into work on Monday morning it stopped working.  I cannot for the life of me figure out why it won't work now!
    DWG to PDF set to Maximum Quality (400 DPI)
    DWG to PDF set to Custom 1200DPI
    Adobe PDF set to Custom 4000DPI

    Try opening the DWG file in AutoCAD 2013 and changing its file format to an older version of Autocad (i.e, 2010/2011/2012).

  • Layers from a PDF to be recognized by Illustrator

    I have exported a dwg to pdf using Autocad, now when I open the pdf with acrobat 9 I can see the layers from the dwg file with the same names and everything, and turn them on and off. When I open the same file with Illustrator the layers are all in one layer broken out in radom groups. Is there a way to get Illustrator to recognize the layers I can see in the PDF? I don't want to open the DWG file with illustraitor because I loose all of my line weights and I have some Linetypes that i custom made in AutoCAD that do not migrate over to Illustraitor. I think the PDF file that AutoCAD exported the drawing to is an older PDF verstion, but I cant seam to save the PDF as a newer version with acrobat 9. Please help I have wasted half a day trying to figure this thing out.

    Here is a slightly convoluted work-around that should work; In Acrobat 9 go to View> Navigation Panels> Layers, turn down the little triangle to see the layers, turn off all but one layer, Do a save-as to "Layer_1" and click the little icon that looks like two gears and select flatten layers.
    Place this PDF into Illustrator and name the layer appropriately. Do the same thing for the other layers.
    It seems flattening the PDF will remove editability in AI, so if this is important to you, you will need to remove the all of the elements in Acrobat that you don't want on each layer, this is easy with PitStop, an Acrobat plug-in, (hide the desired layer, select all and delete) but it can also be done with Acrobat, Tools> Advanced editing> touch up tools> (click and drag to select, delete). I believe Pitstop can also delete PDF layers.

  • DWF to PDF converter?

    We have some autocad files that are .dwf and we need to convert them to .pdf format. I know there are several free converters for the pc side of things but what about for the Mac?
    Thanks.

    Thomas: here's what Autocad said when I emailed them about a DWF/DWG to pdf converter: Hello Marcus,
    The Docudesk product line is currently only available for Windows, but deskUNPDF will be released for Mac OSX this spring, to be followed by deskPDF around the end of the year.

    Have you heard about deskUNPDF -- Click to find out: http://www.docudesk.com/deskUNPDF-PDF-converter.shtml
    So, maybe there will be something soon for us Mac folks from Autocad. Looks like it won't be free, however.

  • Help - AutoCAD to PDF

    Is there any java free api to convert AutoCAD formats (DWG or DXF) into PDF?
    Thanks

    Is there any java free api to convert AutoCAD formats
    (DWG or DXF) into PDF?
    Thankswww.lowagie.com/iText/
    Check out iText for creating PDF documents. I have used it in a project before and it works great for most things.
    AutoCAD files are proprietary though so there really is nothing out there, (for free at least) that can automagically convert DWG to PDF.
    I would consult Autodesk and see if they have a Java API for what you are describing.
    Otherwise the best solution I can think of is make the CAD drawers save there files in PDF format, because that can be easily done using AutoCAD.
