Dying/Uneven LCD on 15" MacBook Pro

So I bought a $2000 machine less than 90 days ago (a machine that Apple stopped making today) and now it has to go in for the 2nd time! Check out my posts to read that tragedy.
I just picked my machine up from my local Apple Store and was told that I have to get my LCD replaced. I decided to take it with me and call Apple to complain.
So far, I feel like the early adopters (the people who spend the most money) are getting completely screwed!
Is anyone else having issues like this with their early MacBook Pros? Mine is a week 3 model.

Its not exceptionally hard. On iFixIt.com you can prolly find a guid that can take you through removing teh complete display. After that you will have to remove the two bezel screws and turn teh monitor so the hinges are on top with the screen standing, facing you. Then you have to grip a corner with your fingers, olding that plastic edge with your thumbs as you press from the back. Once you get the casing to seperate a ilttle, get somethighn flat to pry at it with, I highly reccomend something plastic to avoid damaging anything. Usuaully once you get a corner popped you can use your small pry bar to pop the clips around two sides of the display assembly and then just pressure out the other corner with yuor hands. The difficulty of doing this can vary from second to minutes depending on how stubbnord the clips are on your display.

• External LCD Monitor and MacBook Pro - Bad Experience

Hi,
I have an LG 22" LCD (W2252TQ) attached to my MacBook Pro. And it is a horrible experience. It buzzes if the brightness is not at 100%. The colors are not like they are on the MacBook Pro LCD.
I am getting the LCD replaced for the 2nd time (the first time was because of a slightly different experience).
I am beginning to wonder if my MacBook Pro just doesn't play well with this particular model of LCD display. I have it connected via the VGA-DVI adapter. Could that be causing my problem? If I go straight to DVI, will it be better?
Anyone have any recommended settings for an LCD monitor (gamma, color, etc.)?
Thanks.

I have my MBP hooked up to a Viewsonic 22 in. LCD directly with the DVI cable that came with the monitor. No problems so far. Perhaps try a different brand of monitor. I have heard good things about both Viewsonic and Samsung.

• Help! my System Preference Display shows Color LCD instead of MacBook Pro! Y is is saying this?

Hello people, my MBP's systempref>Display shows "Color LCD" when ity should have been MacBook Pro! YTF is it like that?

It's supposed to read "Color LCD" - there's no "MacBook Pro" color profile (unless you've created one and saved it with that name).

• How to remove superglue from LCD screen of Macbook Pro?

I know this sounds ridiculously stupid. Unfortunately, I somehow managed to get superglue on my mom's Macbook screen. Theres two droplet sized marks near the center and I feel really bad. Is there any possible solution below changing the entire screen?

Acetone, is what breaks down super glue, use it on a q Tip and try to absorb it of the screen (dab),( this may take a few times to get it all) do not rub!   First try it or the lacquer thinner Shootist mentioned, but try it in the corner of the screen first to make sure it will not cause damage. After it is removed use a screen cleaner with a micro fiber cloth such as Clean it, or an eyeglass cleaner that is safe for glasses with treated lenses.  MAKE SURE TO HAVE THE COMPUTER TURNED OFF! Also support the screen from behind and use minimal pressure.  Good Luck.

• One solution to make dim or uneven display better on Macbook Pro

I just figured this out while I was playing with the settings. There was a white stripe on the bottom of the screen, also a bubble of white on the right bottom corner. After this "tweak" the bubble completely disappeared.
Apple menu
System preferences
Universal Access
Set contrast before the first mark, half way to it.
BAM, screen looks much better, and where's the white bubble? Disappeard..

Do you have any menu bar utilities that could be interfering? You can quit them to see if that makes a difference. What Mac do you have? I assume you mean the video display on your Mac gets messed up, not what you see on the TV.
Try turning on Mirroring, does that display correctly?

• Macbook Pro Uneven display backlight

Hi
I would like to know if uneven backlight on my macbook pro is covered by warranty
it was hard to get a good picture but,
http://the.cave.in.googlepages.com/uneven_backlight.jpg
sometimes its even worese
the display also flickers sometimes very lighyly (at 50hz etc.)
also
is there a good reason that while probing apples site
i could not find a single support e-mail address ?
cheers.

If the screen lighting is as bad as the photo seems to demonstrate, then yes, it's definitely a problem that would be covered by warranty. The screen should never actually flicker, though, since an LCD is refreshing pixel-by-pixel at 60hz, perhaps your brightness settings keep changing? If not, then it could even be the inverter (if you're using one of the CFL (pre-Santa Rosa) models). Either way, I'd try to get over to your nearest Apple Store when you can.

• Macbook pro/powerbook G4 LCD

I have a 2008/2009 Macbook Pro (silver keys) and the LCD randomly broke the other day (I just opened it and there was a crack on the left bottom corner. It's made a giant white line vertically to the top and now a bunch of random colored lines) I have a powerbook G4 LCD, the same size as my macbook pro's. Would I be able to put the powerbook's LCD into my macbook pro and have it still work or are they different LCD types? I'd like to know so I don't take my MBP apart and have it screwed up. )': Thanks in advance.

Nope. No can do.

• How can I disable the internal display on my MacBook Pro with connected external display?

I used this metod with the MagSafe power cable connected (see http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/15/yet-another-way-to-turn-off-internal-lcd-display- of-macbook-pro-with-lid-open/).
Open System Preferences and click “Mission Control”, then click on “Hot Corners”
Select a hot corner and pull down the menu to select “Put Display to Sleep”
Now connect the external display to the Mac and move the cursor to the newly created sleep corner to turn off the internal display
Close the MacBook lid and wait a few seconds before opening the lid again, the internal display should stay off while the external display will be powered on
This worked great under Mac OS X 10.7.4, but after the last update to 10.7.5 it doesn’t work more. The built-in display turns off really, but a few seconds after opening the lid it lights up again. Do you have any suggestions? Dimming the brightness or clamshell mode is not very useful.
MacBook Pro 13-inch,
2,7 GHz Intel Core i7,
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G56)
Thanks!

I have the same problem: not able to work with my external display mirroring the internal one - while shutting the internal display off.
I believe there is an issue with Mac OS X Lion 7.5 that Apple needs to solve, since apparently it does not happen with this version of the OS only...

Or any other way to solve it?

• In subject to tv and macbook pro connectivity.

Hi people, please tell me how to connect my sony bravia bx320 lcd 32" to macbook pro, this is so i can watch movies on my lcd via macbook,so please explain what should i do.secondly please tell is there any Mac version for vlc player and of any video converter?

How old is your MBP?  Assuming it's a recent one (i.e. bought new within the last couple of years) and that your TV has an HDMI input then you will need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable.  Apple sell one:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H7128ZM/A/mini-displayport-to-hdmi-cable-2m?fn ode=MTY1NDA3Ng
Regarding VLC, yes there is a version of VLC for Mac - the new version 2 has recently been released.

• Aperture 2.0 RAW import on a MacBook Pro 2.26

I tried to use Aperture on my old 2.0ghz macbook, once. It was within the system requirements but never would run. I regularly use Aperture 2.0 on my iMac 2.8 and it works fine. Sometimes it hangs but in general the workflow is very smooth. Well, my old macbook died so I bought a MacBook Pro 2.26ghz and was excited to be able to edit photos on the road. However, after importing a 4gig CF card with around 200 shots on it (~12mb per shot, I use a Canon 5D Mark I) Aperture just seems to be spinning away on the data and not producing much. I can click on images in the slideshow frame and some of them will pop-up, without regard to the location in the batch. This has been going on for about 45 minutes. I realize that I should max out the RAM but the machine is well within the system requirements... what gives? Thanks in advance.
To be more specific, the slideshow along the bottom has hash-marked images but no thumbnails. The whirling grey wheel says "thumbnails..." by it. I do this all of the time on my home machine, bulk RAW files take some time, I know but this is really dragging.

This problem was fixed with the ProKit update, duh... my fault

Use Google to find the availability and the pricing.  Make certain that it is compatible with your MacBook Pro.  It should allow for 802.11 a/b/g/n PHY Modes.  There are many which are 801,11 a/b/g used in older MacBook Pros.
Ciao.

• Macbook Pro 17 Anti-Glare LCD Problem

Here is the LCD screen on my MBP on black background. The back light is more or less very uneven.
Is this normal to other Macbook pro anti-glare users?

Hi everyone!
I've just noticed some problems with mine 1 week from NEW MacBook Pro 17-inch Unibody Hi-Resolution Antiglare Widescreen Display (UK specification, display model: 9CAC):
Display illumination is UNEVEN and can be seen when working with dark backgrounds (B&W photos etc.).
I actually noticed it when I start working with my photographs and then decide to check it out with 100% BLACK BACKGROUND.
I can see it while working with some B&W photographs in alight room but I took this photos in the darkness to increase the clearness.
ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE for such PROfessional laptop as MacBook Pro:
I can't understand why Apple would release a matte screen- which is aimed at high end designers, photographers, photo editors, etc, unless it was great quality.
I'm hoping that the comments here are isolated and not all matte screens share the issues.
I've already arranged a replacement from Online Apple Store and my Build-To-Order Unibody MBP 17" Antiglare replacement is on the way now.
So I STILL WANT an ANTIGLARE option.
But if a replacement unit still doesn't look good - I will try and try so on till they manage to produce, quality control and deliver an appropriate quality product APPLE declare to be a flagship of PRO line.
2.3 million pixels of perfection.
With the high-resolution LED-backlit widescreen display on the 17-inch MacBook Pro, you get desktop-quality color in an Apple notebook for the first time. The moment you open your MacBook Pro, you’re greeted instantly by full, corner-to-corner screen brightness. The 1920-by-1200-pixel resolution (133 pixels per inch) means you can view more palettes and windows or watch HD video in its native 1920-by-1080 resolution. Perfect whether you’re working in the studio or out in the field, the display offers a 60 percent greater color gamut than previous generations for richer, more vibrant colors and a 700:1 contrast ratio that makes whites brighter and blacks blacker. In addition, the seamless glass enclosure makes the display stronger and more durable. Because it’s power efficient and the glass is mercury- and arsenic-free, it’s greener than ever. And now you can choose a standard glossy display or an optional antiglare display, depending on your needs.
I took some photographs of my display with the following setup:
1) photos taken using tripod and CANON EOS 30D camera in the darkness to increase the clearness
2) full brightness of the display
3) completely even 100% black background in Photoshop's full screen mode
4) no any adjustments applied to these photographs and I've tried to receive pictures of what and how I seeing it
5) photos processed and saved for WEB in Adobe Lightroom
Photos:
http://picasaweb.google.com/freelancer.by/MyMacBookPro17Unibody?authkey=Gv1sRgCJ nPjbCPk4TVTg#
I'll definitely let you know how it goes with my replacement unit when it arrived.
Thanks

• How can I connect my Early 2011" Macbook Pro 13" inch, with a generic Mini Display Port to HDMI connector, to a LG 32LD340 LCD TV, using Mountain Lion 10.8.2?

I have an Early 2011" macbook pro 13 inch (core i5 2.3ghz 4gb ram 320hdd) with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, and I want to connect it via Mini DP to HDMI connector, and a HDMI cable to a LCD TV LG 32LD340. When I had Lion OS, I had no problems at all.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.
