Dynadock VGA - monitor suddenly freezes and disappears

OK, perhaps a bit cryptic.
What happens is this: I have a Zepto Znote notebook with a GeForce 8600M graphics card. I want to use that as my only computer, but I'm 100 % dependant on a dual monitor setup in my line of work (media work with a video on one and a script on the other).
On both Vista 32 and XP I have managed to install everything (and I have tried with both Toshiba drivers and newer Display Link drivers) and the monitor works.
But after a random period, from a minute and up to around 15 minutes (which is the longest I have managed to work this far) the monitor on the Dynadock just locks up on the current image page, and I can't get the mouse up on that monitor anymore. The actual program running on that monitor (often Foxit PDF reader or Word) has now jumped to the main monitor, behind the active program.
The secondary Dynadock monitor will be deactivated in display manager, and if I activate it again nothing happens. I have to restart the computer without the Dynadock plugged in and then plug it in.
It will work for a few minutes again, and we're back to the same problem. I tried to update the LAN drivers and the Display Link drivers and disabling the LAN, but that didn't do anything.
And this can happen while I'm doing something on the secondary monitor or when the display has a static image.
What type of image doesn't seem to matter either. Can anybody please help me?

Hi
Okaccording to you message the secondary Dynadock monitor deactivates in display manager.
I think its not a Dynadock issue but possibly its your notebook issue.
I think the Dynadock loses the connection signal to the notebook and therefore the secondary Dynadock monitor deactivates and the pic freezes.
It would be interesting to know how it works with another computer.

    riyazfrombangalore,
your 13-inch Mid 2009 MacBook Pro requires 1066 MHz RAM, but you have 1333 MHz RAM installed. Try replacing the 1333 MHz RAM with 1066 MHz RAM — Macs can be picky about the RAM which they find acceptable.

What operating system version, and do you have any backups of your data off the machine? TimeMachine? Option Key bootable clones? Storage? DVD's?
A reinstall of the operating system may be in order as a last resort, so if any of these steps on these links get you into the machine, make sure to backup your personal data (Music, Pictures, Documents, Movies) off the machine to a non-encrypted  powered external drive regular storage drive (not TimeMachine as it might be corrupted too) and disconnect as soon as possible.
Good Luck and report back all what you tried.
Also report what change occured before this tragedy happened, was there a  Software Update? A EFI firmware update? Etc.

  • My iMac thinks a VGA monitor is connected, and that it's the main

    Hello,
I have been looking around this forum, and the web, for an answer to my problem. I haven't found one yet.
My problem is that I sometimes connect my TV to the iMac, using the appropriate adapter, and now the computer states that a "VGA Display" is always the main monitor, and the iMac Display is the secondary, even if there is no other display connected.

After that i used my iMac to mirror my photos in tv and unplug the adaptator, my iMac think that there is a Vga monitor... but it didn't !
If you go in the system profiler/monitor you'll see the the mirror is on.. strange.
i'd try also with 3rd part software to change the option monitor but... nothing.
i'll hope that we can solve it !
    sorry for my english.. bye

    Greetings jupiejupie,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPad is sporadically becoming unresponsive and the screen is turning black. In this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the suggested steps in the attached article.

  • How can you debug sudden freezes and restarts? Only overheating?

My iMac, under Win XP via Boot Camp, will freeze and restart unpredictably when playing games. I thought I had tracked it down to overheating, but it's not that simple. Is there any error logging at the BIOS level with Boot Camp or any record when it shuts itself off and restarts? I think it must be BIOS and/or hardware, since there are no Windows events that seem to be related. If it was a video or audio driver crash problem, wouldn't I get a BSOD and some sort of error log (since I have automatic restarting turned off in Windows)?
Does anyone know more about when the iMac hardware will trigger a restart due to heat issues? I thought I had solved this by using smcFanControl on the Mac side to bump up the fan speeds and then tracking it with SpeedFan on the Windows side. It worked great for 2 nights. Then the 3rd night, it crashed and restarted right away twice, and then played fine for an hour or more. The 4th night, it crashed and restarted 3 times in a row, within minutes, and we gave up, somehow restraining ourselves from tossing the Mac out the window onto the sidewalk.
According to SpeedFan, the first time it crashed, CPU temps were only at 16C, HD at 37C, and overall at 35C. The second time, CPU temps had gotten up to 25C. The last time, CPU temps again were only at 16C (i.e. it crashed so fast, we hadn't even started playing, so it was effectively idle). Other temps remained pretty constant the whole time.
Given all that, it's hard for me to believe it's a matter of overheating. Yet I have no idea what else it could be, or why upping the cooling seemed to fix the problem for 2 days, and then the next day we were back to square one.
I guess Boot Camp should come with a big sign, only for word processing. What a waste of time - everything else Windows I do in Fusion. The one thing I wanted to bother with Boot Camp for is almost impossible to do, play a simple, not even new or state of the art game. I'm at a total loss what's happening, now that my overheating theory seems to have blown away.

Hi. I just wanted to tell you that I have the exact same problem, only I've got a Mac Pro. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you, but I posted details about what I've found here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7217936#7217936.

  • Suddenly freezes and stutters

My movie project is now 32 minutes long and when doing a playback of the clips at the end of the project they freeze and stutter. The clips at the beginning are fine.
I have deleted the prefs file, restarted, put the playback on standard. But no help. Can anyone help?
    OS 10.5.8
    iMovie HD 6.03
    2GHz Intel Core Duo
    1,5GB RAM
26,62 GB free on Hard Disk

If the problem is not enough storage space, then increasing your space is what you need to do, as Catspaw and Karsten have suggested.
My guess is that the stuttering will not carry over to your final burned DVD. But but it is pesky for editing playback. Toggling back and forth between small and full screen sometimes can help you through the stuttering.
For the heck of it, you might try opening a new blank iMovie project, and then opening your current project so that the windows of the two projects display side by side. Then drag or copy-paste the offending clips from your current project into the new project. They may not stutter there, in which case you can edit them in the new project and then drag or copy-paste them back into your current project.

  • IMac early 2009 freezes and monitor is flickering

    Hello,
After being a Macuser for about 25 years, i now have a question.
After a while my old iMac (iMac (24-inch Early 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 2,93 Ghz, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GT120) suddenly freezes and the Monitor starts flickering. The upper half is flickering and the lower half is black.
Only way to get back to it, is to do a hard reset by holding the Power button for a while. Then it starts up normal. Sometimes it asks for sending a Crashreport sometimes not.
    Does anybody have an idea?
    Cheers,
    Thomas

Difficult to say, run Apple's Hardware Test in extended mode 2-3 times back to back. The reason to run it multiple times is AHT does not always find errors after the 1-2nd pass, however when it does they are correct. If errors are found, take it in for service.

  • Ipod Touch Suddenly freeze

    Hi,
    Pls Help.
When I was using my ipod touch 4g and the battery drained/empty. I charged it for about 20 mins, it suddenly freeze and i can only see the black screen with loading icons on the center..
When I reboot and try holding down both the home and power buttons for 10-15 seconds,  it appeared the apple logo and then after 2 mins returned  again to black screen with loading icons in the center. I waited for 2-5 hrs but it no changed at all.
    hope you can help me..

    - Also try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Also, power off and then back on the router.
From your wording, are you using the laptop as a router? Is it working OK?
What happens whenyu try to connect to the network? Error messages like can't join?

  • Mba freezes and than can't reboot (question mark in folder)

My mba acts kind of crazy lately. It suddenly freezes and when I try to reboot it doesn't find my ssd and gives me the dreaded question mark in folder sign. When I try recovery mode it doesn't show my ssd, but if I keep trying sometimes after a few minutes or a few hours it boots just fine.
Is it a software ot hardware issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have the original disk that shipped with the iMac, you can try booting from it.
Put the disk in and restart the computer while holding the C key down. If the computer boots you can start the installation process. (You are not reinstalling.) After the screen where you select the language you will see a menu bar. Click Utilities and run Disk Utility. In DU, select the hard drive on the left, First aid, and click Repair disk. When that is done, quit DU and restart the computer in the usual way.
If DU tells you the disk cannot be repaired, you will have to replace it.

  • 2011 MacPro freezes and shows several multiple pink lines

My 2-month-'old' MacBook Pro suddenly freezes and shows multpile vertical lines and makes loud beeping noises.
When I manually reboot, again it freezes mid-boot and I have to reboot again.
The second time I reboot, it successfully starts up.
This is the third time it has happened in 3 hours!!
See the video I uploaded on YouTube for a better idea of what I am talking about - http://bit.ly/kuBaFb
I sincerely hope there is nothing major wrong with the computer. :-/
It is running OS X 10.6.7

    Hello-
I had a static issue like this a few Years ago with a Sony Point and Shoot Digital Camera not long after its warranty ended. Unfortunately the fix was replacing the Optical Sensor which cost more than a newer model. Time to Visit the Genius Bar. Remember You have 30 days if bought at Apple Store too Exchange for a brand new unit or for a Refund.
    best, s
btw. Great Video Evidence, Plus There Seems to be A Very Subtle Saphire/Violet Saturation mixed with White, Your Window frames look slightly Violet throughout the video so Apple might have a bad batch of cameras or issues with the camera software struggling with discrepancies from the new hardware or just crap production or...? Keep the Faith & Everyone Updated & You'll Work It Out Soon

  • My 2011 15" Macbook Pro occasionally freezes and beeps loudly in groups of three. What is causing this?

This problem typically occured when I was doing something particularly strenuous, but I just recently had it happen while browsing the internet. The computer will suddenly freeze and start beeping loudly in groups of three with an LED on the front flashing in sync with the sound. I am running Snow leopar if that has any bearing on this problem. What exactly is causing this?

I did a few things to correct the problem First opened up my unit and cleaned it out really good and cleaned all the dirt and dust out Second I removed all the ram and cleaned all the ram connector and  ram connection points on the board Reinstall OS like a new system scratch and restored my applications Zapped SMC and pram And I'm running smoothly ever sice
At one single problem at all One more thing I got a laptop cooler and I run full-time now when using my system. I spoke to a techie and told me all MacBook Pros run very hot. It seems to run a lot better with the cooling fans going.
not a single problem ever since. Make sure you have the latest ML to, Some fixes to memory controller were added.
