Dynamic assign div size for picture

After having had my website up for some time i have received
some feedback from users.
I have both landscape and portrait photos in the same
gallery.
I can get the automatic size adjustments by setting the width
to auto to the div that wraps around the image.
However this is done with a penalty of being slow and
sometimes the rendering stops midway.
So what i was wondering is if there is a way to use the data
in the xml file to specify the size of the div wrapping the photo?
Reason is that i want to be able to make the background black
to get more of a contrast to the photo.
But when the photo goes from landscape to portrait i am stuck
with a big black area to the right of the photo due to fixed size
on the div.

Yes the picture div is the one i mean.
When it stops rendering it will show the picture, however the
resizing of the divs will halt so that a portion of the div to the
right will not collapse enough.
This is in Firefox 2.0 and IE 7.0.
So instead of letting the browser do the thinking i was
considering getting the size directly from the xml file and set the
size to the picture div.
By doing that i can also center the text above the photo
regardless on how big or small the photo is.

Do you want to hide large images or merely make them smaller by setting a max-width and max-height?
You would probably have to use JavaScript (bookmarklet) to achieve this reliably.
There are bookmarklets to make large images fit in the window to avoid a horizontal scroll bar

Dynamically assign series names for SVG Chart

I have created a line chart with 5 series in it. I would like the legend name for each series to be dynamically assigned (as a value from a field in the database). Is this possible?
Ideally, i'd also like the number of series to be variable too. Is this possible?

how to setup a default size for a new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver? I don't need the default size for new divs as a 100% width, I need them 13.69% as a one coulmn width only (7 coulmns fluid grids layout for desktop size 1000w).
This problem I've faced when I intended to insert dozens of fluid grid divs in the layout.

Sorry, I don't believe that you have had a good look at the Foundation framework. I'll now hold your hand while we go through the basics.

The default values are
Em-base : 16px
Row width: 62.5em (62.5em x 16px = 1000px)
Columns per row: 12
These and other default values can be changed. The fact of the matter is that if you stipulate a section width of 2 or 3 or 12 columns, the widths will automatically be calculated for you.
In your case, if you want 7 columns, all you need to do is change the number of columns per row and the rest is done for you.

Yes, you do this when you export the images from the Library.
File -> Export
in the Size section, you don't need images larger than the frame size, so you can specify that and in the Jpeg Quality you can select the amount of compression used.

Best size for facebook marketing picture?

Hello,
has anyone experience with designing a facebook post / timeline picture for marketing purpose? If yes, what is the best size for desktop and mobile and how would you do the fill.
In my opinion it should be a size that fills a large part of the users screen so they must see. For the content I think a teaser and then a click to the webpage for more info.
I'm curious what other designers do or would do.

Hi Jorik,
Facebook will actually resize any photo you post to fit the timeline. With that said, even if you upload an extremely large screensaver image 1600x1200px, it will appropriately fit and scale it according to the window size. This will also scale appropriately on mobile devices. Generally speaking, that means the larger your image the better. This is because when displayed on a desktop or large screen, you can still view it at a high resolution, but when scaled down to a mobile device, it won't make a difference. Note the maximum photo upload size is 2048x2048px.
One other thing to note, is that Timeline previews the image as more square and vertical. This means that if you have a landscape photo or very wide photo, the two sides will probably not be visible in the preview. So for marketing purposes, aim important content in the center of the composition. If you want your marketing content to PERFECTLY fit the Timeline post displayed on Facebook, you would want to design an image 404x404px.

Best Picture Sizes For 8.5 by 11 Book

i need to resize all my photos from around 1500 x 1500 px to ????? on another computer that has photoshop on it (i cant belive iPhoto wont let you resize a jpeg). All the pictures are to large for the book i am making
whats a good size for the jpeg's to be for a 8.5 x 11 book???

For a book use the largest pixel dimensions available. Do not resize down. If you need to downsize a photo for use outside of iPhoto use the File->Export->File Export menu option and you'll be able to set the pixel dimension and the amount of jpg compression (quality) for the exported file.
For batch resizing outside of iPhoto Resize! is a very good app and it's free.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Recommended Image Size for Contact Pictures?

I want to edit up some family members to attach thier images to my iPhone contacts... Does anyone know what the preferred resolution size is for the iPhone for optimal appearance?
I've tried to do this with outlook before, and I hate the way it dithers the images to a low quality.... I'm hoping that the iPhone doesn't do this and so I wanted to experiment with how they would appear...
But instead of making the images just any random size, I wanted to crop them to the preferred image/pixel size so that my photoshopped images look like what I expect them to show up like...
If you could advise with the documented or known pixel resolution size used by the iPhone it would be appreciated!

Usually there is a optimal image size for certain things like contact photos and I am just trying to help ensure that all my photos are the same size and don't vary...
I might be a little carried away with how I am formatting them, but just hoping someone already knows this answer!

How to assign transport request for Dynamic selection in SE36

Please guide me how to transport or assign a request for the changes made in BRF selecion view.
I have assigned and added BKPF-XREF1_HD field for FB03 transaction. Its working fine as per user requirement.
I am facing probelm to assing a transport request for that. I didn't find any transport menu in se36.
So please provide me how to assign a TR which need to import into Production client.
If I have to assign or create a program (standard), then please provide me the program name.

Optimal Size of Pictures for each format?

I know there is no one answer for this, but I'm trying to create Photoshop templates for myself to make using images with Muse easier to deal with while working with clients. If they are going to be changing out photos with in-browser editing, it would be good to have a specific size that fits well for the full width of each format. Ideally they could do this sizing themselves. Maybe there is a cheap program for them to re-size pics.
I'm wondering what others are doing for standard (not retina) websites as far as optimum sizes for each format for screen width photos. Love the idea that I can get 3 completely different looks! Worth the work.

Ex: Should I have a photo at 2000 pixels for a desktop? Should I match the screen resolution? Have I missed some documentation that goes over this? If I guess too large, loading time is increase. Too small and resolution suffers. I would love for Muse admin to comment on this. I could be the only idiot that is missing the obvious. If so, let me know.

Is there a recommended (maximum) size for a catalog?

I'm loading all my photos into PSE9 Organizer on my new MacBook Pro and was wondering if there is a recommended maximum size for a catalog? On my PC I separated my catalogs by year. My 2011 folder contains over 11,000 photos and is 71GB. Is that pushing the limits for efficiency or could I combine years?

One catalog for all of your photos makes sense. Alternatively, as Ken said, catalogs by relatively non-overlapping subject matter areas make sense. I still see no scenario where catalogs by years makes sense, unless you can honestly say that you can remember the years of all of your 68000 photos.
Tags and albums let you organize in ways that are nearly impossible using folders. If your daughter is named Jennifer, for example, and you assign the Jennifer tag to all photos that contain her image, then later when you want to search for pictures of Jennifer, you simply click the tag and boom, there are the photos instantaneously. You don't need to know what folder the photos are in, nor do you need to know what date the photos were taken. If you want photos of Jennifer over the years at Christmas, this is a simple search once you tag the photos, and nearly impossible using folders. The possibilites are endless. You let PSE remember where the photos are, so you don't have to. You let PSE do the searching, instead of you searching the folders.

Default size for logo in 8.8

What is the default size for a logo(picture) in 8.8 (on SBO print layout)?

In a PLD, you can drag a Picture Box, and assign an image to the picture. Now in the Properties Window -> Format Tab -> Picture Size, set this to 'Fit Field Size Non-Proportionally'.
This setting will adjust the size of the image to the size of the Picture Box, that is placed in the PLD.

L need help with textedit, I inserted a picture then the cursor went from small to the size of picture and l need to write a header next to the picture not at the bottom of it. can anyone help please?

AFAIK, you can't. The nature of TextEdit is that it allows the picture to be treated as a character and adjusts the cursor size for that line.
You need a app that supports transparent overlays.
