Dynamic Images in Crystal 8.5

I'm trying to get images displayed dynamically in a Crystal 8.5 report.  I have the image data loaded into a recordset and am passing it into the report via a blob field.   It is working correctly for a .bmp image file, but when I try to use a .jpg or .png file, the image doesn't show in the report.   Is .bmp the only file type supported for Crystal 8.5 or is there something else I need to do to specify to the report what type of image it is?

Hello Jennie,
Iam not remembering about 8.5. I But, Iam sure that itis possible to display image in 8.5 I have done itm, once.
Keep all the image in one folder with unique names which should be the key in database field.
eg:
employee id
I wanto to show the employee image in crystal report.
I will create a formula which will hold the image name.
d:\images\RAB0001.jpg
will be
d:\images\"tempid".jpg
Go to Insert->OLE Object
or
use BLOB object itself
Is this answers your question?

  • Dynamic Images in Crystal Reports

I have a report with Dynamic Images. I am able to run the report but once I try to export it or try to browse through the pages I get the following error:
Application popup: Crystal Reports - [Inventory Graphics Report.rpt]: crw32.exe - Application Error : The exception Integer division by zero.
(0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location 0x2c03a410.

    Hi Don,
I have read your response 10 times, but I don't really understand it.
"Your only option is to use the Insert OLE Object or picture into the report" - fine, but how is this achieved from a dataset?
"CR will not display BLOB fields as pictures" - fine, but maybe I used the word BLOB badly. The dataset column datatype is "byte[]". Will CR display byte[] columns as pictures?
"You can use a database field to point to which picture file to use, then you won't be using up valuable memory space importing the images into your data set. And the Logo's now dynamic...." - this seems to suggest that the database field is a string storing the file location on disk. Yes? I don't care about memory space in this case and I'm happy to load a binary file into a byte[] column if there is a way of displaying it.
So, if I understand correctly, you're suggesting the dataset contain a table.row.column which stores the filelocation. How do I convert that to display as a picture (dynamically)?

  • Dynamic images in crystal reports for VS 2008

The company logo scenario. The solution I'm trying unsuccessfully to implement entails:
    - the logo is not stored in the database, but resides locally on disk
    - strongly typed dataset generated by stored proc in sql server 2008
    - column defined in a dataset table as sqldatatype.binary, null value
    - populate dataset in .net by calling the proc
    - edit the byte[] column and replace null with a binary image
    - push the data into the report
    - print the report to pdf from a web application
Everything works fine, no errors, but if I try and display the blob in the crystal report, nothing prints. If I remove the blob without modifying any of the above code, everything prints (all tables/rows).
I have tried cloning the dataset and substituting the binary file into the appropriate column, thinking that the original might be READONLY, but the same result (prints perfectly if I don't try and show the blob).

  • Show image in crystal report 2008

    Hi All,
I have a UDF - image type in Sales order Line item which stores image.
Currently I want to display sales order line item data in CR2008 using a query.
All data is coming but image field is showing image name in place of showing image.
    How can I show image.
    Kindly suggest.
    Deep Kulshrestha

    Hi Deep,
An image type UDF only stores the image name in the database. When you add an image, the SBO client takes a copy of the image file and puts it in the Pictures folder (as defined in General Settings). Therefore, to use dynamic images in Crystal you will need to do the following:
    1) Create a formula in Crystal that combines the image name from the UDF field and the path to the Pictures folder to create the full path to the image (note: your Pictures folder must use a UNC or mapped drive path rather than a local path). It's easiest just to hardcode the path to the Pictures folder in the report but you'll have to bear in mind that this setting is company database specific. If you want to be able to run the report for multiple SBO databases then you may need to use a formula to change the path (you could add the OADM table to the report but there is no suitable join between this table and other tables in the database. The report would work because there is only ever 1 record in OADM but it's not good report design).
    2) Once you have your formula you can add a add a picture to the body of the report (at this point you should select a default image)
    3) Right-click the picture on the layout and choose Format Graphic.
    4) Select the Picture tab and click on the formula button to the right of the Graphic Location property
    5) In the formula window set the return value to the formula you created in step 1.
    6) At this point your image will dynamically change based on the UDF value. You may want to set a formula in the Suppress property of the image so that the default image is hidden if the UDF field is blank for a particular record.
    Kind Regards,

  • Crystal Reports XI R2 SP4 Dynamic Image link not shown through forward prox

    Hello,
I've installed crystal reports XI R2 on a server which accesses the internet through a forward proxy.  I've created a sample report with a dynamic image link.  When I preview the report, the image shows up blank.  I am able to browse to the image using IE.
Further, using the same report on our lan machine (no proxy), works fine.  Any help you can provide is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sujee

    Hi,
It seems that Crystal Reports does not support accessing images through a proxy configuration.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dynamic Image Displays Blank When Using In Visual Studio Project

I am trying to simply display a dynamic image in a report. I am using Crystal Reports XI Release 2.
I have two different environments: Local via Progress where reports are called using Crystal Viewer ActiveX, and over the web where reports are called from Open Laszlo and Visual Studio project.
The image is set to a blank image as default, and Graphic Location Forumla loads the image from the database (site.logo_location + site.logo_filename) which results in an image http:
    www.vetinfo3.com\a.jpg.
When I run the reports locally using the ActiveX control, it works just fine and displays the image.
When I run over the web using OpenLaszlo, it displays a blank.
    Troubleshooting
We are using Visual Studio 2005, which is bundled with an older version of Crystal that doesn't support dynamic images.
To address this, I loaded Crystal XI Release 2, which updated the version in Visual Studio and enabled the Graphic Location formula field on the dev machine.
I verified the Graphic Location field was set correctly.
This caused a Version error, so we loaded cr_net_2005_mm_mlb_x86.zip on server and specified the Version in web.Config.
No errors now, but when I build and publish the code, the image still displays as blank.
                From Fiddler
                   GET http://www.vetinfo3.com/mdsol1/CrystalImageHandler.aspx?dynamicimage=cr_tmp_image_c5d6a923-293b-4f1e-8739-4e698f83b087.png
                   Creates C:\Documents and Settings\Curtis\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\PWRUX2XW\CrystalImageHandler[1].png
                   Blank Image
According to issues within Visual Studio, they say the fix to this is to add the <httpHandler> in web.Config, but it is already there; added when we add the viewer to the project:
In web.Config I have some questions about this line:
        <httpHandlers>
          <add verb="GET" path="CrystalImageHandler.aspx" type="CrystalDecisions.Web.CrystalImageHandler, CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=11.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>
        </httpHandlers>
There are more service packs for Crystal XI Release 2:
    crXIr2sp2_net_server_install.zip
    crXIr2sp3_net_server_install.zip
    crXIr2sp4_net_server_install.zip
I have not loaded these yet, but the readme files do not indicate they fix any dynamic image issues.
I am out of ideas on this; does anyone have any ideas?

    What about if you take OpenLaszlo out of the picture? E.g.; use one of our samples from here;

  • Need help with adding formatted text and images to Crystal Report?

    Here's my scenario:
I have a customer statement that's generated as a crystal report and that has a placeholder for advertisement. The advertisement is mixture of formatted text and images. Until now we only had one advertisement that was always used on the report. The new requirement is that we would have a pool of hundreds of advertisements and would need to display one specific advertisement on the customer statement based on various marketing criteria. They key is that the advertisement content will be determined programmatically and cannot be hardcoded into the report. I'm using Crystal2008 with .net SDK.
Here are the solutions I thought of, but I'm still rather lost and would appreciate your help/opinion.
    1) Pass HTML or RTF to the report
Not really sure if this is possible and how to get it done. Also how would I pass in images? Would display formatting be reliable when exporting to PDF?
    2) Create each add as a subreport and append it programatically
I actually have this working, but I only know how to append a new section to the end of the report and then load the subreport to the section. I have no other controll of the placement. Is there a way to dynamically load a subreport to a predefined section in the main report? How about adding a dummy subreport in the main report as a placeholder and then replacing it with a different subreport? How could I do this?
    3) Pass an Image to the report
I would create each advertisement as an image and then would somehow add the image to the report. How would I load the image and control the placement? Could I somehow define a placeholder for the image in the main report-maybe a dummy image to be replaced?
    Thank you.

    Hello Pavel,
I would got the third way.
You can use dynamic images in your report.
Just by changing the URL to the image the image can be changed.
Please see the [Crystal Manual|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/cr2008/en/xir3_cr_usergde_en.pdf] and search for images.

  • Dynamic image report not working

    Hi,
I am trying to create a report which has a dynamic image.
    - the report has
    a parameter: {?image_path}
    - user specifies the image location (ie. c:\image1.png)
    - the report take the image location as a parameter and change "graphic location" of the picture object.
The following works fine in Crystal Report 11 R2, but not in .net application.
I checked the passsed parameter value by displaying it, and the parameter value was correct.
does anyone know why the picture object is not updated based on the value of parameter?
    Thanks,

If you are using IIS on your local machine then that does not necessarily mean that the application has access to the root of the C drive (or your image folder).  Depending on the version of IIS you are using (IIS5 on XP and Win2k) or IIS6/7 on win2k3/2k8 there are different possibilites.
I'll assume Windows 2003 server.  Here permissions of the application are determined by the application pool that the application is running under.  Typically this will be the 'Network Service' account which would not likely have permissions to all of the files and folders on your machine.  An easy test (to find out if its permissions) is to change the Identity used by your application pool from 'Network Service' account to the 'Local System' account, which should have access to most folders on your machine.  If this works, then its a permissions issue.
If you are running the application directly from the Visual Studio IDE and you created your website as a 'File System' web site, then it will not use IIS but rather a personal web server called WebDev.WebServer.exe.  If this is the case, you'll see that executable in Task Manager.  This process will run under your currently logged on credentials and should have full access to the file system as would Crystal Reports designer or any Windows application you run.  If images still do not show up in this case (or the case of IIS running under the Local System account, then the next possibility is that you do not have CrystalImageHandler set up correctly in your application's web.config file. To make sure this is set up correctly then you will need to set this up as described in the [Crystal Reports Developer guide|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/cr2008V1/en/crsdk_net_dg_12_en.zip]
If you download this help file, search for "web.config" and look at the CrystalImageHandler section.
If you are on Win2k8 using IIS7, then you will need to run your application pool in 'Classic' mode rather than 'Managed Pipeline' mode in order for dynamic images to show properly.

  • Dynamic Image Location in JRC

<p>Hi !</p><p> </p><p>We are interested in using so called dynamic image location future in JRC. So far we are unsucessful, so the question is, is it supported in JRC ? We are able to get dynamic image location future working in report designer, but when our report is exported there is no image only path to it. </p><p> </p><p>We use Crystal Reports 11 R2, Java Reporting Component in JSP version.</p><br /><p>Mac</p>

I have a couple of reports working with dynamic images. CR4E doesn't support this (yet?!?), but you can still do it with the JRC. The big kicker is the syntax of your URL. If you're using a static image on a server somewhere, it should work with no problem. However, if you're using a generated image, it's a little trickier. I discovered this when I was creating a report with barcode labels. The barcodes were not getting generated. I turned on debugging and found that the JRC was screwing up my url. The url was as follows http://myserver/barcode?message=12345 67890&format=datamatrix.
In the logs, the JRC said it couldn't find an image at the url
http://myserver/barcodemessage=12345+67890&format=datamatrix. It was stripping out the ? in the url, which is kind of an important character to say the least. I messed around with it and eventually found that if I just put ?? instead of ?, the image would display correctly with the JRC. Hope this helps! If not, post what version of the JRC you're using and the URL you're using for the image location.

  • CR XI R2 - Dynamic Images not working on production machine

We are using VS2005 on windows server 2003 as our development environment. We have CR XI R2 installed there. We have a crystal report set up to use dynamic images and it is working fine. On the report, the graphic location of the picture is set to a formula which we set dynamically from VS2005.
When we move our report and code to the production environment, the dynamic image is not showing. We have the report showing the formula, and it is the correct path to the image. What are we missing?!

I am having the same problem.  This works no problem in development on a Vista machine but once I try and run it in production on a Windows 2003 server, it won't work.
Did anyone ever come up with a resolution to this proble?
I know it's not a file access rights issue as the url that I am calling is unprotected  I can call it using a simple web browser.
    http://details.planelements.com/Details/BarCode/BarCode.aspx?dataToEncode=12345
I am pretty confident at this point (after insalling the lastest service pack) and trying everything that this is a security issue, but for the life of me I cant figure out what it is.
To date I have tried the following:
    1)  Gave the ASP.Net account Administative rights - Didnt' work
    2)  Changed the dynamic value from usin the above specified url to a local file system file (ie. c:\temp\Image.jpg).  This worked, so I know the dynamic value code is being executed.
    3)  Uninstalled the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security settings just to make sure that something was not going on there (Since I don't have that intalled on my Vista machine) - Didnt' work
    4)  Tried calling a hard coded image locally (http://localhost/Image.jpg) - Didn't work
At this point I don't know what else to try.  I am going to go through and see if I might need to assign some rights to the administrator account that are granted to the "local system" account, but after that I am not sure what else to try.
Anyone else have any additional suggestions?

  • Dynamic Image Linking - HTTPS?

    Post Author: GPINC
    CA Forum: General
We tried to use the dynamic image linking feature in Crystal 11 but it doesn't seem to like the links to our secure site (https). We moved the images to a non-secure http site and it worked fine. Since we don't want to keep the images on the http site, is there something we can do to make the https links work? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ted,
I'm not sure I understand your question fully but I'll try give more info.
I have a parameter called Logo. The value of that parameter is a https url.
The report loads and the image is not present.
When I enter the url into a web browser the image loads correctly so the URL is correct.
If I change the url to a http location it will display in the report.
In Firebug I can see a request like this:
    https://localhost:8080/WebApp/CrystalReportViewerHandler?dynamicimage=crystal124058671923846987.png
Firebug seems to think it has returned a blank image of size 262 * 262. The image I request is 113 * 113.
When I use http the request is this:
    http://localhost:8888/WebApp/CrystalReportViewerHandler?dynamicimage=crystal12405854284818789047937565519495.png
    It returns the correct image.
If I can give more info please let me know. I can just use a http location, that's no problem. Perhaps certs is causing it to not work.

  • Dynamic Image Location?

    Hi Experts
How can I use Dynamic Image location in my Crystal Reports?
    Thnaks in advance
    AG

    Techy Guy,
In the properties of your image, you can set the location as a formula. Here, you can set the path by IF-ELSE statements:
IF {letter.city} IN ["Arnemuiden","Kleverskerke","Middelburg","Middleburg","Nieuw- en Sint Joosland","Sint Laurens"]
    OR LowerCase({letter.city}) LIKE "*joosland"
    THEN ".\Middelburg.png"
    ELSE
        IF {letter.city} IN ["Oost-Souburg","Ritthem","Vlissingen"]
        THEN ".\Vlissingen.png"
        ELSE ".\Middelburg.png"
In this formula, the logo will be depending on a the city the recipient is in. If the city is not in one of these two options, Middelburg.png will be used as default (to have at least a logo in the letter).
You could even use a field to define the image name:
    ".\Flags\" + {Customers_.Country} + ".png"
will point to the directory 'Flags' in the same directory as your report is. Here, it will locate the .png file having the same name as the country field in the customers database (i.e. France.png).

  • Dynamic image is not being displayed in Adobe Reader 8.1

    Hi,
In interactive form, we have followed below required steps to show a dynamic image.
For the left image, drag and drop an Image Field element from the standard Library tab to the Body Pages pane. Select this image field and edit the following properties:
    • Click on the Layout tab and choose None for the Caption position.
    • Click on the Object, then the Binding tab and choose None for Default Binding.
    • Click on the Field tab, enter $record.SapOnlineShopUrl for the URL entry, and select Use Image Size for the Sizing field.
    • Click on the script editor and enter the following FormCalc script statement, which enables the dynamic integration of the image. Show: initialize Script: this.value.image.href = xfa.resolveNode(this.value.image.href).value;
    Language: FormCalc Run At: Client
Image is displayed properly in Adobe reader 7.1 but it's not being displayed in Adobe reader 8.1.
I was going through some forums and understand that Adobe 8.1 blocks href URL. If this is indeed true, what's the alternative way to show a dynamic image?

  • Dynamic image in the template builder plug-in does not work

    Hi all,
    The documentation says:
    Direct Insertion
Insert the jpg, gif, or png image directly in your template.
    +...This works obviously+
    URL Reference
    1. Insert a dummy image in your template.
    2. In Microsoft Word's Format Picture dialog box select the Web tab. Enter the following syntax in the Alternative text region to reference the image URL:
    url:{'http://image location'}
    For example, enter: url:{'http://www.oracle.com/images/ora_log.gif'}
+...This works too when I hardcode an url as url:{'http://www.google.com.tr/images/firefox/mobiledownload.png'}+
    Element Reference from XML File
    1. Insert a dummy image in your template.
    2. In Microsoft Word's Format Picture dialog box select the Web tab. Enter the following syntax in the Alternative text region to reference the image URL:
    url:{IMAGE_LOCATION}
where IMAGE_LOCATION is an element from your XML file that holds the full URL to the image.
    +...This, however, does not work.+
I use Apex' report query tool and My query is like
select 'http://www.google.com.tr/images/firefox/mobiledownload.png' IMAGE_LOCATION from ... (a single result set for my template)
the xml data is generated with an IMAGE_LOCATION tag. I load it to word template plug-in. The Url successfully displays in the report if I make it a plain-simple field.
But when it's in the image format->web->alt text as url:{IMAGE_LOCATION} no image displayed.
I need to keep this design procedure simple so a simple word user could design a report via using just template builder plug-in. I don't wish to explore the xsl-fo area...yet.
Could you tell me why I can't get this url:{IMAGE_LOCATION} to work?
