Dynamic Link HD to DVD

OK so I am making loads of DVDs and I have HD footage.
I want to know if using the dynamic link function to burn my project in Encore gets rid of quality?
I am aware I will lose quality I have done this before. I am just curious...would I get better image quality if I rendered the project out in AME using the Mpeg-2 DVD settings and then creating a project in Encore?
Thanks guys.
Footage AVCHD, 25fps

Never been a fan of DL for various reasons. I guess because I used to use a different DVD app prior to Encore, so I had to export MPEG-2 DVD from Premiere and got used to that workflow. I like to have control of the encoding process myself, and AME gives me access to do that. Also a matter of workflow - after spending hours, days, even weeks on a project, when I decide it is finally complete, I'm ready for a break. Encoding to MPEG-2 DVD using AME gives me that break, though with today's encoding speeds, the break is not very long!
So once I have the DVD-ready assets, I can Import into Encore, make the menus, and burn, and the Build process literally takes just a couple of minutes since the video does not need transcoding. So I can design menus and make a proof disc really quickly, rather than waiting on a long render. Can easily make changes and Build again.
While I've not personally tested this theory, I've seen a lot of postings that claim the Encore encoding engine is different than what AME uses, and that AME produces superior results. Whether that is true or not, can't say, but that would be another reason to use AME over DL.
In AME, you can check the "Max Render Quality" box to increase quality of the downscaling. Only needed when changing output size, SD to DVD would not need this. Use a Bitrate Calculator (online) to determine the optimum settings for encoding rate based on program duration. If the encoded material is too big for the DVD, then you have to do it again, so you want to avoid that.
Another tip, I usually Build an IMAGE rather than a DISC - image produces an .iso file on the hard drive, and then any of several free third-party burning apps can be used to make DVD copies from the .iso at any time, so it's a good archival copy. You can also "play" the .iso file from the drive with software such as VLC Media Player for preview before burning a disc.

  • Using Dynamic Link to Encore -- Can't do it in PP CC?

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.  Surely I have it wrong.  Premiere Pro was upgraded to CC two years ago, but I cannot use the Dynamic Link to create DVDs.  I can use my Premiere Pro CS6 to use the dynamic link to get my sequences in Encore CS6, but because there is no upgrade to CC for Encore, I can't use the dynamic link (with PP CC).
Are you freaking kidding me?   What's the point of coming up with this amazing Dynamic Link if you can't use it anymore?  Somebody is really nuts here in the development of PP CC and lack of development for Encore.
Am I missing something?  Should I be building my DVDs in a new CC program that I'm not aware of?

  • Dynamic Link (Adobe Premiere Pro to Encore) issues with burning a DVD from the project file

    Hello,
I am running Adobe Suite CS 5.1 on my Mac:
    2.8 GHz Quad Core
    6GB Memory
I've been having issues with a few projects; using Dynamic Link, directly from my project in Premier, to send them to Encore:
When attempting to burn a DVD, Encore will 'hang up' and not burn; I rarely burn to DVD, usually I'm always encoding for web, and just always use the 'default settings' in Encore.
    A few things to note:
*In my project I'm using MOV files, from a Canon 7D, and MP4 files, from a Sony EX-1.
*I am working off of 3 separate hard drives; very large projects with over 5TBs of media files.
*I noticed that after inserting a DVD, it caused one of my hard drives to eject; this happened once, as far as I know.
*This only happens when I use Dynamic Link to send to Encore, via my Premiere Pro project file.
*My Project settings are always: XDCam HD-1080p/24p
    Please help.
    Thanks

So you must downrez at some point in the workflow. Some users have problems and/or think they get better quality out of direct PR/AME exports than using DL for this purpose.
I would test the workflow by creating three short test sequences - one with a clip from one camera, a second from the other, and a third with both in a sequence using the same settings you are using in your edit. I would use the "drag a clip" to the new item method for making each of the first two sequences. By short I mean 30 seconds to 2 minutes with a mixture of still and action.
Export using whatever method you pick of those recommended, but use CBR 8 instead of VBR etc. Bring the resulting files into Encore. Yes, look at the files exported on the computer, and look at Encore preview, etc, but also burn to a disk and watch on multiple TVs. There are lots of issues in best quality.

  • Which makes a better DVD? Dynamic link or Encoder?

Which makes a better DVD?—to use the adobe dynamic link on a sequence in the project panel…
or to export to a file with the Adobe Media Encoder and then import into the Encoder?
If the latter, does it make a difference if I export from Premiere to an H264 or using the MPEG2-DVD option?
It would be simpler to burn to an H264 because that is the same file type that I upload to Youtube.
(Since MPEG2-DVD creates separate video and audio files, I assume they are not uploadable to Youtube…)
Thanks for any advice you can give.

    Export from Premiere with mpeg2-dvd.
Import the two files in Encore.
    Make menu and burn.
If you use H.264 it gets re-encoded in Encore.
If you want to upload to YT with mpeg2 just set the Multiplexer to ON. H.264 is a better choice for YT.

  • Should I use Adobe Dynamic Link to create my DVD?

I recently downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 from the Creative Cloud.  It included Adobe Encore CS6.  If I am producing a DVD without menus, do I encode the video first or use the Dynamic Link and let Encore do the transcoding?

    Reason: more searchable title

There's a whole list of threads on using Encore to make DVD/BluRay discs. You can search for it, and there's also a couple blog/info posts on the Adobe main site about the techniques for doing this. Highly recommended that you look this stuff up.
Now ... for direct answer, you use the DVD/BluRay export preset to make the twin files, one video (mpeg-2) and one audio (wav), that you then import into Encore.

  • Encore DVD 2.0 on Windows: Composition background color of dynamically linked After Effects projects

    Hello,
I used Adobe Dynamic Link to import an After Effects project, and I saw that in Encore the background color of a composition is set to black even though it is defined with another value in After Effects.
I had to open the project in AE and place a solid layer with the desired color behind all other layers.
What are the causes for this behaviour? Did I do something wrong or is it a bug?
    Best regards,
    Christian Kirchhoff

The composition background is transparent. It has per se no color and does not react to blendmodes and such. It's imaginable that Encore resets it to black for whatever reason (wouldn't know, as I design my menus always with full frame backgrounds to begin with). Still, I would consider it a bug regardless, so please fiel away:

  • Dynamic link confusing two separate AE compositions in PPro from different projects

I am using CS5 Master Collection for Windows 7 (64 bit) on an HP Pro desktop (Intel core 2 duo, 6Gb RAM). The tower has two hard drives installed (no RAID). CS5 is installed on the original C drive along with the OS, but the working files, footage etc are all on the larger, secondary F drive.
I am working on a DVD project consisting of several seperate PPro projects. Each project has been colour corrected in AE using dynamic linking. Recently two of my projects suddenly became mixed up, by which I mean the video (not the audio) from one AE composition in one project has taken the place of another in another project. The clip remains the same length, but the link apears to be referencing the wrong clip during playback. Interestingly, there are two clips on the track above the affected clip that fade out and in at either end, during the dissolves between clips, the correct footage plays. It is only when the clip plays by itself that the problem occurs. The next clip also has the same error, though the problem only occurs for half the clip and then suddenly corrects itself. Just to be clear, All clips have been rendered, there are no more than two video tracks on the sequence, and I have tried replacing the composition from the asset menu (in which the clip plays back correctly), but the problem remains in the sequence.
I hope that descrition is clear enough. My guess is some kind of file path error in the dynamic link, perhaps due to the separate hard drive. But I really wouldn't know. I'm very pressed for time right now and I'd prefer not to go against workflow and re-edit a new composition in AE, I would also like to understand what is going on in case it happens again.
Any help with ths problem would be appreciated,
    J

Thanks Colin, I tried what you suggested with both the AE Project that it should be referencing and the AE project it is erroneously referencing but both failed to fix the issue. Its as if a hidden clip were laid over the top of the one I want to play. Frustrating.

It's not the comps that are the problem; it's the project file names themselves. You can have all the comps in a project named the same thing, and it'll be fine, but naming projects incrementally is an issue. After Effects includes a versioning function (Save and Increment) that will create a new AE project file with a serial number, e.g. AE Project 01, AE Project 02, etc. This is all well and good if you're just working in After Effects, but Dynamic Link gets confused and will usually start looking at the later project file for comps. That will just create a big mess, as you've found. Changing the names of the project files won't help things relink automatically properly, but it can help you fix things. Make all your DL AE comps offline in your Pr projects, and name your AE projects in a manner that is not serial (give them more random names). Select your offline AE comps, and right-click > Link Media, and point to the new AE project. Things should link up correctly then--but if they don't, you'll just have to remove all the AE comps from your Pr project, reimport the comps from the newly-named AE project, and replace them. It's a pain but it'll probably just keep getting worse if you don't.

  • Tip:  Dynamic Link can cause  s l o w encoding

Here's a tip.  If you are building a DVD that originated via a dynamic link from Premiere sometimes something breaks that causes the encode to take a really really long time.   Sometimes I just notice that it should be quicker, sometimes I see that my CPUs are only being used at ~20% instead of nearly 100%.   If you stop the process, reboot, and just bring up Encore by itself, all should be well.  When this has happened to me it's been when I have Pr and En running and I've updated the project in Pr after En was already up and running.

Nope. I understand your desire to USB sync and it shouldn't take that long.
However, for data as sensitive as you suggest I certainly would invest in an Exchange server, or at least with a hosted Exchange service that earns their money by keeping your data private, not by giving you free services in exchange for giving you their data.
My only suggestions for speeding up the USB sync would be to refresh data on both devices. In Outlook, I'd export both calendar and contacts into respective .pst files, delete the contact and calendar data, and then import the .pst files back in. Once that's done I'd do a one-way from Outlook to device and refresh (not sync) the data on the device. I've been told that the export/import process can weed out corrupted entries.
Beyond that you'd have to contact your carrier, gather sync logs from Link, and then get the issue escalated to BlackBerry. You might be able to discern something from the logs yourself but BlackBerry would probably need to take a look at them.

  • Adobe Dynamic Link or Export from Premiere and load into Encore?

    Hi
I'm making some tests about authoring DVDs and Blu-Rays from Encore CS6. My video editions are made in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.
Looks like I have 2 ways to send contents from Premiere Pro to Encore.
    1) I can set all my editions in Premiere Pro, then Export the entire timeline to a MPEG-2 DVD or MPEG-2 BLU-Ray file, then start a new Encore project and import this video file as a timeline.
    2) I can finish my editions in Premiere Pro, then use the Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore options. So, it's not necessary to export files, since the task of transcoding is an Encore's task.
Question is: Any advantage of using way 1 or 2??? Thinking about speed to finish the job, is one way better than other?
What do you use do choose?
    Thank you for these tips
    Gustavo.

    Hi Stanley
Thank you very much for your tips. Just one thing:
In Premiere we can choose, for Blu-Rays, the MPEG-2 or H.264 codecs. You mentioned the H.264 Bly-Ray choice.
Any advantage regarding the H.264 instead of the own MPEG-2 coded?
Best Regards and thank you very much again.
    Gustavo.

  • Dynamic link new feature or bug

If I create an Encore project comprised of dynamic-link sequences from Premier and build a DVD, that works fine.  However, if later I change one or more of the sequences in Premier, save everything, and open Encore, it does not know that some of the sequences need to be transcoded again.  I found that to work around this, I must do "revert to original" to the sequences I've changed to get Encore to transcode them again.  Can't this be handled automagically?

    Can't this be handled automagically?
Even with video files that reside on your hard drive, once they've been transcoded En looks only at the transcoded version unless you tell it to do otherwise.
If En were to trash the transcoded version (which may have taken hours and hours to produce) anytime Encore or Windows or OS-X thought the file or the sequence had changed, there would be a lot of angry authors out there.
So with real files or linked sequences, you have to explicitly tell En that you don't want the transcoded version any more.

  • Dynamic Link complicated question

    This is the story.....
    1. I shot & edited a training session (many sessions - over 40 hours)
    2. I did minor editing in Premiere, used Dynamic Link to send to Encore, set up a first run title page with 8 links to the 8 chapters.(all end actions going back to the main menu)
    3. Burned a DVD for the client
    4. The client made notes for additional changes for me to edit.
    5. I went back into Premiere, made the editing changes (mostly increases in volume from audience questions, removing some comments, etc.)
Now... If I try and use Dynamic link again to "re-send" to Encore, my only choice is a new project... I cannot send using Dynamic link to an existing project (or if I can, I do not know how)
I know one work around is to encode from Premiere, then open a Encore project, import as a timeline.... & author away....
This way, If I go back to Premiere, make editing changes, export back out WITH THE SAME FILE NAME.... when I open the existing Encore project... everything is the same... except the timeline has the updated editing changes...
The only problem is that on all 18 DVD's, I used dynamic link to send to Encore... so does that mean, (unless I use a work-around, like stated above), I have to re-author all 18 DVDs. I would think that even when using dynamic link, if you open the timeline again in Premiere, make editing changes, that the Encore project would reflect those changes (to make sure, I set the audio volume to 0 on the first 10 seconds in Premiere, saved the project & closed it, opened Encore, did a preview, the audio was still at the regular volume (no change).....
    Any suggestions...
Or should I just once again use dynamic link, start a new Encore project, re-author (& basically do the same thing over)?
Or should I do it the other way, encode from Premiere, (you know the rest), I do believe that all the editing changes have been made (according to the client)
Or, is there some way from Premiere to use Dynamic link to send to an existing Encore project?
    David Kelley

I didn't read all your note carefully.
In your previous Encore project for DVD 1 (or whatever), right click on the "asset" for the timeline (the asset for a dynamic link is the Premiere sequece, not the Encore timeline that was created), and pick "revert to original." It should pick up your changes from Premiere.
Note that to update markers, you must select the video in the Encore timeline itself, right click, "update markers from source." You will lose all previous markers. If you created the markers in Encore, you must update manually.

  • Dynamic Link Not Working

    To anyone that can help..
I am having several issues with adobe at the moment and really need some advice. i have tried adobe themselves, they struggled to help too, but that was mainly down to language issues.
I have a Canon XHA1S camera with an external shotgun mic Rodeo NGP-2. All of which at some point worked through premiere pro CS5 and encore. i was living the dream.
Then one day, it all started having issues.
Problem #1 - Dynamic Link stopped working
Once my project is done, i would send it to Encore via dynamic link and produce my DVD in either regular or blu ray. Now it doesn't. A box 'import premiere pro sequence' comes up but encore crashes before it can complete the import. sometimes a message telling me "the software thats used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decodes for the file your working with may help correct the problem" comes up too
Its strange that i've produced about 20 disks with no issues but now a problem. was told by adobe it could relate to the file/pixel size? but again have no idea why this is now a problem now and not before, in fact i would just be happy to know how to change it so it can work? Can anyone help?
    Problem #2 - Audio
The only way i am able to make a disk at the moment is to produce it on DVD maker - it's the only way until i get my issues resolved. however my external mic is not coming through, this has something to do with the sound quality to the mic being 44.1 and the DVD maker requiring 48mhz. i can't seem to convert this to work in anything but AVI (would like MPEG-2) but then the picture quality drops to something similar to a tribul rubbing.
If anyone knows of something or can point me in the right direction i would be very greateful
    Thanks

Especially for Bluray or DVD that is HD to SD, DL must sometimes be avoided.
But the type of problem you are having may indicate other problems. If regular projects are not working, see these:

Regarding the audio, can't you just export as 48K?

  • Dynamic Link

    Hello,
I own Adobe Premier CS5, Adobe After Effects CS5, Photoshop CS5 and alla the other sub programs but I don't have Adobe Dynamic Link and I cannot transfere sequences and footages from Premier to After Effects and vice versa. So I want to buy just Adobe dynamic Link and not the whole package of Adobe Creative suit Premium in whidh is included. Is it possible to buy it ceparetaly?
    Thank you!!

I just came across this old message and felt I had to reply, even if no-one sees it.
Todd - what you may not appreciate is that many Adobe users are freelancers or small companies.  The percentage of our revenue that we spend on your products is dramatically higher than that spent by big companies.  Many of us cannot afford to buy the major suites outright, so even if the eventual cost is higher, we are forced to purchase individual products as and when we need them.  So you gain even more revenue proportionately from small companies.
I now have all the elements I need to produce photos, video and DVD, but cannot effectively use AE because I have to buy Illustrator and Flash.  That makes no sense.  Since I have already paid more than the cost of the suite, by your own admission, I should be able to have a free or very low cost upgrade.  But there is no upgrade path for people like me.  So you effectively discriminate against small businesses.
