Dynamic Link Workflow w/ Premiere

In CS6, I am working a Premiere project, but I want to make a title in After Effects. So I have a title in AE dynamically linked to Premiere. Now, I want to bring the Premiere sequence into AE to work out some timing issues, but encountered an error (5027 ::12). What specifically does that error mean? Are we not able to round trip between AE and Premiere? And if not, what is the workaround?

And, with this and on another project with a title sequence, AE is re-rendering timeline portions that have already rendered. I thought that if you do a RAM preview or a spacebar playback, you should get a green bar and it should playback realtime after that. But each time the green bar goes away (without any edits done) and it has to render again

  • After rendering a Dynamic Link section in Premiere, can I re-edit?

    The premise...
I had finished my After Effects portion of the dynamic link process and naturally, wanted to see how it jibed with visual elements in my premiere project. But there was a problem with the delay in play-back as the effects were not able to play in real-time in Premiere. It was sticking or stuttering or would just get stuck where that orange bar kept filling left to right.. Btw, my computer has plenty of power and meets the requirements. I also, lowered all the playback features to the lowest denominators like quarter resolution, half, reolution etc..
So i had no choice but to render just only that liniked section.
Afterwards, it played beautifully, of course. But now I want to make some edits and tweaks, and this is where my contention lies.
MY QUESTION is: how do I go back n' forth from PR and AE to watch and re-watch and edit, do I un-render it, then render again, or do I throw it away (the rendered version) and upon doing so, will that section reappear because the link will remember it?
Does it re-link again, if i choose to delete it? But that doesn't make sense because I had to choose that area first in Premeire THEN drop it in AE, thereby linking it as the source. So if I threw it away, would After effects go blank?
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thanks ahead of time..
    Best,
    Drew

I too am tinkering with Dynamic Link recently. My question is similar to Drew's, but in a different form.
Lets say, once your done in AE and go back to PrP, and you want to edit the original layered material in PrP to add another shot or two to your effected AE comp. I understand in PrP you can right click on the linked AE clip and choose edit original, but that does not bring in all of your projects media files to AE. Just the clips you previously had selected before linking.
How would one get back to the original PrP sequence before you "linked" for AE? (like clicking a nest sequence to open all your layers). Is the only way to save a copy of your original sequence before linking?
    Thanks,
    Pete

  • Dynamic Link in Adobe Premiere cc

In Adobe Premiere cc part of Creative Cloud when I am selecting a composition (and even when I am not)   I don't have the option to Dynamic Link or "replace with After Effect Composition" to create a project in After effect! In its location is not active! Is that due to some kind of set up? Does anyone know please?

There is no Dynamic Link between ProCC and Encore CS6. (two different versions)
Export from Premiere either with mpeg2-dvd or H.264 BluRay.
Import the two files (audio and video) into Encore.

  • Dynamic Link Question (with Premiere Pro CS3)

I'm using Dynamic Link to bring a composition from After Effects CS3 into Premiere Pro CS3.
It's just a basic DV 720 x 480 project - the composition lays over my video, so I'd like to use the dynamic link composition instead of rendering the composition as an uncompressed AVI 32-bit.
My question is - if I just render the dynamic link and use that in my final video edit - is there any quality loss - as opposed to rendering the composition from AE as a 32 Bit AVI and then importing that AVI into PP?
    Thanks
    FOO

There is no loss in quality. After all, Dynamic Link is nothing more than an invisible instance of AE that renders each frame just as AE would standalone. However, depending on the complexity of the compositions and resulting memory requirements, you may experience problems or the render may be noticeably slow.

Speedgrade does not cache linked comps from premiere. This results in an extremely slow playback in Speedgrade.

  • How can I connect to dynamic link in Adobe After Effects CC ???

    Please help !

To create a dynamic link AE project you start in Premiere Pro. There are lots of tutorials including this one from Adobe TV which comes up if you search Dynamic Link in the After Effects Search Help field at the top right corner of the app. The search help field in AE is the most under used feature of the program for new users. I've been at it for 20 years and I use this feature all the time to find new things and things I've forgotten.

  • Dynamic Link to Encore from Premiere Issues

I created a simple After Effects composition and Dynamic Linked it to Premiere Pro. (All CS4 Programs)  I completed the editing process, and Dynamic Linked my timeline into Encore.  In Encore, the Premiere Pro timeline appears, but it does not represent the After Effects composition within the Premiere Pro Timeline.
I am unsure as to why this occurs.
Also, I have issues with getting the DVD's I burn to play in other computer/DVD players.  The discs I create work perfectly fine in my computer, as well as my DVD player but I am unsure why they do not work in other people's devices.  The discs are DVD-R discs.

So you must downrez at some point in the workflow. Some users have problems and/or think they get better quality out of direct PR/AME exports than using DL for this purpose.
I would test the workflow by creating three short test sequences - one with a clip from one camera, a second from the other, and a third with both in a sequence using the same settings you are using in your edit. I would use the "drag a clip" to the new item method for making each of the first two sequences. By short I mean 30 seconds to 2 minutes with a mixture of still and action.
Export using whatever method you pick of those recommended, but use CBR 8 instead of VBR etc. Bring the resulting files into Encore. Yes, look at the files exported on the computer, and look at Encore preview, etc, but also burn to a disk and watch on multiple TVs. There are lots of issues in best quality.

  • Adobe dynamic link-From after effects to Premiere

I have few sequences save in different After effects versions because my project was to big to work with one final after effect version.
I would like to use Adobe dynamic link to send all the seuqences into Adobe premiere to make a "one sequence" that I could export.
But when I am using Adobe dynamique link, I need to close and open the differents versions saved in after effects.
When I do it, the sequences appear offline in Premiere.
What can I do to see all the sequences online?Do I have to work with affter effects online all the time?
    Thanks a lot,
    Alice

First and foremost, running After Effects is not necessary so as to be able to work with dynamically linked compositions in Premiere Pro. PrPro invokes headless version of AE in the background so as to communicate with dynamically linked comps.
Second, while working with dynamically linked compositions avoid incremental numbers at the end of your AE projects names. Better yet, avoid incremental numbers at the end of your dynamically linked comps names as well in both AE and PrPro by giving them meaning names instead of default ones. If you really need to include incremental numbers in those names, insert them somewhere in the middle. The bug related to incremental numbers at the end of the names was biting strongly in CS5.5 (don't remember if CS5 was affected as well) and was claimed as fixed in CS6.

  • Inconsistent Adobe Dynamic Link clip corruption in Premiere Pro (All CS5)

So I'm working towards having seventeen AE compositions in a video I'm cutting with Premiere. I was chugging along just fine until most, but not all, of my clips started showing this strange diagonal line business.
When I drag the timeline over the clear areas the AR comositions look fine but things cut out over the diagonal lines and when I do a render I get what looks like the AE composition minus the odd layer.
I've not deleted or moved any of the component files for the compositions, so I'm not sure what's going on here.
After some looking around the forum, I've seen it suggested that drawing from Multiple AE Projects is a bad idea - that you should have all your compositions in one AE Project to then draw from in Premiere - but have not seen any confirmation of this.
I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me out here as this is a project I've been working on for almost a year and I'd really like to wrap it up!

Just to be clear: you still can store dynamically linked compositions in different AE projects (which might be useful when your AE projects are quite complex or you need to distribute your work across team members), just avoid incremental numbers at the end of the names.
Dynamic Link is not the best option under all circumstances, and as Craig said sometimes rendering digital intermediate is more efficient. Check this good old discussion on Dynamic Link workflow, pay attention to Todd's comments.

  • Dynamic link between Premiere pro and After effects versions?

I was wondering if it was possible to use the dynamic link between different version of the products like preimere pro cs5.5 and after effects cs5.0, I downloaded the trial of premiere cs5.5 while I already have bought and installed after effects 5.0 a while ago. when I tried using dynamic link with premiere 5.5 with my current after effects cs5, the "replace with after effects composition" in premiere was greyed out. I didnt know if this was just a limitation of the trial, or if the two different versions (PR cs5.5 with AE cs5) were incompatable with dynamic link. hope you guys understand the question, and any answers would be helpful!

Ok so just to get this straight, in order to use dynamic link between adobe premiere pro and after effects you have to have the complete suite? or just the same version installed? all I want to be able to do is have a good workflow between premiere pro to after effects to get my vfx done, and then send them back to premiere seemlesly without spending $2000 dollars on the entire suite just to use those 2 programs and because the suite is way over my budget. is that the only possible way (other than cs6, because I dont have the $$ to update either)

  • Using Dynamic Link for projects cut in Premiere and effects in AE.. Rendering Question..

    Hello,
So this baffles me. I've been working a lot in Premiere CC lately with ProResHQ green screen material. I send the sequence or individual clips using After Effects by right clicking on the clip in Premiere and selecting Create After Effects Composition...
So I do my thing and when it comes time to render, I select render from IN to OUT in Premiere and wait. Now here's my question. If I select render in Premiere, it will be very sluggish until I click on the After Effects icon in my dock which brings the app to the foreground again. For some reason, this will dramatically accelerate my render speeds in premiere after I re-select the AE app. Why is this doing this?
I'm using a new Mac Pro trashcan tower 3.5 clock speed. 64GB ram. Dual D700 graphics card. I am using a USB3.0 drive for my editing and the internal drive on the tower for the scratch. I'm getting a Lacie 1TB little bigdisk thunderbolt2 that will be my prime scratch and video location for future stuff.
    Thanks for your help -
    R

Generally speaking, there is no 'one & only' proper workflow. Just keep in mind the following:
    - not all effects and transitions are properly translated when travelling from PrPro to AE;
    - in Dynamic Link scenario PrPro communicates with AE projects via single instance of headless AE, which creates a bottleneck. See this good old thread on Dynamic Link workflow, pay attention to Todd's comments;
    - since AE allows to set a DI as a proxy to dynamically linked comp, with reasonable amount of dynamically linked comps in PrPro project you can enjoy the best of both worlds, instantly switching between a DI and dynamically linked comp back and forth with no needs to replace anything in PrPro timeline. Test on your own with which amount of dynamically linked comps setting DIs as proxies still work. For my rig test 30 min sequence built out of 935 dynamically linked comps, which are just source footages in their own comps, hence, the equivalent to rendered DIs set to proxies, takes around 27 hours to render, while 30 min sequence built out of the same 935 source footages renders in real time.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Dynamic Link not working as part of Production Premium CS5

I ran into a situation whereby I recently reinstalled my Production Premium CS 5 onto a new computer and when trying to run the Dynamic Link out of Premiere PRO CS 5 to create a new After Effects composition, After Effects tried to start up but then crashed with the error that Production Premium was needed.
Yet, I had Production Premium CS5.
(Note:  The crash didn't occur when I simply tried to use Dynamic Link without anything selected in my project or timeline - but the moment I had a clip in my timeline selected to work on it, the dynamic link would not work as covered above.)
In checking around the forums I found various answers to this problem such as rebooting the computer, reformatting hard drives and/or whatever.  This all may be correct.
However, as I just went through that nightmare, I was not anxious to do that again.  So, I called Adobe and the following solution solved the matter in 5 minutes:
    1. Close all your other Adobe applications such as After Effects.
    2. Open up Premiere Pro CS5 and then deactivate it by going to HELP>DEACTIVATE and then Permanently Deactivate.
3.Close the application and restart Premiere Pro CS5.
4.Then do the same to Activate it.
    5. Have your serial number handy and plug it in when prompted.
Solved it right away and worked beautifully.
Not to say there couldn't be more complicated situations, but the above worked and the simpler the better is good for me. And I thought I would post this in case anyone else ran into this problem.

    Thanks for posting your solution.

  • Dynamic Link from After Effects CC Altered in Premiere Pro CC

I have created a series of animations in After Effects, but whenever I add a Dynamic Link in Premiere, the Dynamic links are altering their look.
Example: The particle world animation, Ice layer, Bounce layer and a Glue layer to create the effect that I want. Looks great in After Effects. When opened in Premiere Pro, all 3 layers bounce in sequence for no apparent reason. So why does Premiere feel the need to alter my file on import?
Example 2: Small End graphic animation with a phone number and website.. All is great until the last 4 seconds of the animation. For no good reason, the background flips?? I checked this in my After Effects file.. there is no reason for the flip to take place.. once again, only happens in my dynamic link imported into Premiere.
Anyone experience this? I trolled the forums looking for something similar and came out empty handed. Extremely frustrating. I have resorted to rendering out a quicktime video, but this is not an ideal way to achieve things. (that being said, the rendered quicktime video works just fine when imported into Premiere.
    Thanks..
    Shawn

    Thanks Kevin.
Unfortunately in my case the export doesn't solve the issue. The video only looks good while in the composition... I've tried exporting it in all the different formats with several codecs, but to no avail...

  • Dynamic Link from Premiere CC to After Effects CC Issues.

Just bought a new iMac maxed out 3.75ghz quad-core, 32 gig of ram, 1t solid state and 4 gigs of video ram; so my machine is more then capable of using adobe video applications very well.  I like to do a lot of dynamic link things from premiere to after effects and 9 times out of 10 I use a black video (File>New>Black Video) as my place holder on the time line or you could use bars or a color matte, doesnt matter..  When I do my composite in after effects and then come back to premiere to render, it takes freaking forever if I leave after effects open.  If I close after effects then do the render, it fires through the premiere render and no problems.
Now I also have a maxed out 12 core 64 gig ram Mac Pro tower at work and I have the same problem.  Is this a known bug thats in the works of being fixed?  Is there a work around instead of closing after effects to render to make it work smoother?  Is adobe aware of this issue?  Nothing is crashing or failing, its just taking a long time to render when i dynamic link if i leave after effects open.  Any help or feedback would be awesome, thanks!

I spoke with vidya sagar from tech support a few minutes ago to get an update on when, maybe this update to fix this problem will be rolled out.  He told me he and his whole team is aware of the situation.  He mentioned its a problem where ram between premiere and after effects isn't being balanced out enough and thats why premiere is taking so long to render out after effect compositions.  With all do respect, I'm not trying to be a nag.  Can you maybe give me a progress report on where the team is with fixing this related issue?  Vidya said your the man to ask and that you're a very reliable resource to get information out of with problems such as this.
