Dynamic load applet from File or MSSQL trigger

Hi,
i have an interesting project that i am researching, i would greatly appreciate if someone can point out some tools to use inorder to reach the following scenario with java.
I seeking to write data to a web applet whenever an insertion is done to a database or a new file is written to one directory on the server.
i need to display the information in the applet without refreshing any page.
i am very new to java, but i found that it could be done in a couple of ways....
1- Opening a channel between the applet and the server that uses HTTP request and response to load and update the applet without refreshing the page.
2-Programming a servlet on the server that communicates with the server and the client applet, it send the applet data when ever an insertion is done on the server.
3-Doing an applet that gets data from a cookie text file on the client machine, using an open channel between the server an the client the server writes these data to a certain directory on the client.
Please advice if any of these relates to the real world, and please provide tips of tools to do that.
Greatly appreciated,
Wafic

OK, lets see how to accomplish that... :-)
1- Opening a channel between the applet and the server
that uses HTTP request and response to load and update
the applet without refreshing the page.The idea of reloading the applet is not effective and leads to extreme performance losses.
But you can use a URLConnection to send requests and retrieve any data on that channel.
2-Programming a servlet on the server that
communicates with the server and the client applet, it
send the applet data when ever an insertion is done on
the server.Here is the tricky part.
To notify the applet you will have to set up some sort of server, as it does not know anything about operations on the web server side.
So you either set up a socket connection to the server or (better) use remote method invocation (RMI) to let the server call the appropriate method and immediately send the data.
This could be methods like (abstracted):
myApplet.getData(String fileData);
or
myApplet.notifyMe(); //triggers the HTTP request to                get the data
This is also not so easy as you will have to start a RMI registry inside the applet.
3-Doing an applet that gets data from a cookie text
file on the client machine, using an open channel
between the server an the client the server writes
these data to a certain directory on the client.This is the part I do not understand.
Why are you sending a text file from the client to the server, which in turn should write the same file back in a client directory ?
Why not using the applet for that ?
Under any circumstances you will have to circumvent the applets security rectrictions on the client side by either signing it or deploying a policy file depending on the JAVA platform version you will be using.
I hope this helps any further.

  • Why can't I load plugins from file system ?

    Hello.
    Why can't I load plugins from file system, fore development sake for ex. ?
    Thx.
    Andrew.

    For security reasons, the Flash Player doesn't allow applications to access both the file system and the network.
    One workaround is to compile the plugins in statically (rather than load them dynamically).  The Akamai Plugin Sample shows you how to load plugins either way, you can see the source here: http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/osmf/trunk/apps/samples/plugins/AkamaiPluginSam ple/.

  • Net.sf.jasperreports.engine.JRException: Error loading object from file : C

    I started using JasperReports for my web application report generation. I'm using JSPs for web development.
    I created a .jrxml file using iReport and used the following code to generate the report.
    try {
              JasperDesign jasperDesign = JRXmlLoader.load("C:\\tomcat\\webapps\\web\\JSP\\reports\\samples\\pmm-final.jrxml");
              JasperReport jasperReport = JasperCompileManager.compileReport(jasperDesign);
    // Second, create a map of parameters to pass to the report.
              Map parameters = new HashMap();
              parameters.put("Title", "JasperReport");
    // Third, get a database connection
              Connection conn = null;
              Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
              conn=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=C:/tomcat/webapps/db1/db1.mdb");
    // Fourth, create JasperPrint using fillReport() method
              JasperPrint jasperPrint = JasperFillManager.fillReport(jasperReport,
                                  parameters, conn);
    // You can use JasperPrint to create PDF
              //JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdfFile(jasperPrint, "C:\\tomcat\\webapps\\web\\JSP\\reports\\TestReport.pdf");
              JasperExportManager.exportReportToHtmlFile(jasperPrint, "C:\\tomcat\\webapps\\web\\JSP\\reports\\TestPMM.html");
              JRXlsExporter exporter = new JRXlsExporter();
              exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.JASPER_PRINT, jasperPrint);
              exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_FILE_NAME, "C:\\tomcat\\webapps\\web\\JSP\\reports\\TestPMM.xls");
              exporter.exportReport();

    Anyone pls help. It's bit urgent. Thanks.

    I was using iReport v0.5.0 and it uses jasperreports-0.6.7.jar (v0.6.7) of
    JasperReports. I compiled and i deployed my application in BEA weblogic server. I got the error listed below. Only after i saw your
    response explaining that iReport was the issue, i checked the iReport lib directory and found this version of jasperreport jar.
    iReport creates a java source file which is used to a jasper file.
    iReport will link in the v0.6.7 version of jasperReports. When you
    deploy your web application it will recognize this version through the compiled jasper file and give you the InvalidClassException, even
    though you only have one jasperReport jar deployed with your war file.
    The way i fixed this problem was to create my web application with the
    jasperreport jar comes with iReport.
    Thanks for mentioning iReport.

  • NoClassDefFoundError  when loading Applets from IIS5.0

    Hi
    I am having trouble loading applets from IIS 5.0. Here is my html code
    <applet code="Appli/Loader.class" width="100%" height="100%">
    </applet>
    All my clases and packages reside in the same directory from where this html is loaded.
    The trouble is that it behaves erratically. At times the Applet works fine and at times, the browser cannot locate some class.
    The funny part is this behaviour is not consistent. Some times the browser is able to load all the classes and the applet function very well.
    Any suggestion/advice/tip will be great help
    Thanks

    Add the codebase parameter and see if it works.

  • Problem loading Applets from Jar files on 64 bit machine

    I am developing an applet (extends Applet but uses swing components) using JDK 1.6 (Though these problems still happen in JDK 1.7) and I am unable to get the applet to load on a 64 bit machine in most cases. The web server(s) are running on localhost and I am connecting on the same machine using a local network ip address (such as 192.168.*.*)
    Below are all of my test results. Can someone provide a suggestion for repairing this? The Windows Server machine is a clients computer I access to it via remote desktop but I can't do much with it though I do have administrator rights. The Windows 7 machine is my development platform so I have been able to do extensive testing on it.
    This problem is presenting in the following environments when trying to load an applet from JAR files in a HTML document using the Applet or Object tag.
    Windows Server 2008 (Intel Chipset)
    Tested Browsers:
    Internet Explorer 9 (32 bit) - Shows it is blocked by default then simply shows an x when loaded from a web page, same result when loading from local drive.
    Windows 7 Home Premium (AMD Chipset)
    Tested Browsers:
    Firefox 6.0.1 (32 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner, after a few minutes there is finally an error that a class in the jar was not found
    Internet Explorer 9 (32 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner, after a few minutes there is finally an error that a class in the jar was not found
    Internet Explorer 9 (64 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner and most of the windows desktop manager freezes, keyboard is the only thing that responds so you can alt-tab to another app to regain control of the desktop.
    Chrome (32 bit) - Java logo shows with spinner, after a few minutes there is finally an error that a class in the jar was not found
    The only way I have been able to get a Java applet to run on a 64 bit machine are the following ways.
    Firefox 9 nightly (64 bit) works perfectly! Go Firefox!
    Internet Explorer 9 (32 bit) loading directly from drive (c:\...)
    Chrome (32 bit) loading directly from drive (c:\...)
    Firefox 6.0.1 (32 bit) loading directly from drive (c:\....)
    Can someone please help! I've been fighting with this bug for over a week and I can't find anything that will solve it, I have noticed that in some cases if my jar has very little code in it than it will run on the server, but the minute I start adding things to it the jar won't load anymore.

    To clarify...
    1. You have tried it on 32 bit machine? Exactly which OS?I tested this on Windows Vista Business which is in 32 bit mode and the applets run without any problems

    2. Your only 64 bit tests have involved 2008/Win7?
    If so then I would suspect something with windows not java. Probably permissions.
    The web server(s) are running on localhost and I am connecting on the same machine using a local network ip address (such as 192.168.*.*)
    Yes, I haven't tried running the jars on other operating systems.

    I don't understand that. If you are running on localhost then you should connect to localhost. If running on an IP then you should connect to that. Perhaps you meant that you have tested using both of those?I'm testing using the lan ip address but I'm connecting from the same machine. I've tried localhost and that didn't work so I tried lan ip since that will likely have a different java security context than localhost. At first I was blaming the IIS server but I downloaded the jar directly and using HTTP fox was able to verify that the jar is being sent with the correct mime-type and that the server can upload the jar file without a problem. This leaves me to believe the problem is with Java.

  • Problem in loading applet from non executable jar file

    hello ,
    I am new to jar concept plz help.. I am trying to call an applet from another applet through frame it is working fine but its download time is much more. now i want to store all my images , sound files and class files of other applets in a jar file and want to access these inner applets from this jar file so that it will make only one http connection with the server for this jar file only and can reduce the download time of applet.
    Can anyone can give me suggestion plz..
    Thanx

    You have to download what you have to download. You
    probably can't easily share images between 2 separate
    Jar files. Unless you can expose them through the
    other applet via a method that can be known once you
    have the reference to the other applet.Thanx but i think i have to elaborate the problem :
    my project structure is just like this ::
    on the top is ::
    Applet A---> from this applet i am callling Applet B & Applet C in frame
    and communication is established between these 3 applets successfully .
    now i have made a single non executable jar file which contains images , sound and class files of these applets .
    so i am referencing images and sound files in applets through this jar.
    but i wanted to load Applet B & C through this jar file only.
    How can i do this ??
    Thanx .. I hope now the problem is clear

  • URLClassLoader + dynamically loading signed jar files

    I have an applet that does not know all of the jar files it will need to load at startup.
    I would like to dynamically load these signed jar files using the URLClassLoader, however it does not recognize these jar files as being signed and I get java.security.AccessControlException: access denied errors.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Try this classloader for loading the jars, it should to the trick:
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.net.URLClassLoader;
    import java.net.URLStreamHandlerFactory;
    import java.security.AllPermission;
    import java.security.CodeSource;
    import java.security.PermissionCollection;
    import java.security.Permissions;
    public class AllPermissionsClassLoader extends URLClassLoader {
        public AllPermissionsClassLoader (URL[] urls) {
            super(urls);
        public AllPermissionsClassLoader (URL[] urls, ClassLoader parent) {
            super(urls, parent);
            System.out.println(parent);
        public AllPermissionsClassLoader (URL[] urls, ClassLoader parent, URLStreamHandlerFactory factory) {
            super(urls, parent, factory);
        protected PermissionCollection getPermissions (CodeSource codesource) {
            Permissions permissions = new Permissions();
            permissions.add(new AllPermission());
            return permissions;
    }

  • Using srw to load graphics from file in different path

    Hi all,
    I work with report 6i and I want to build a report with dynamic graphics. I stored the file name and directory in field of my data base.
    I want to know if it is possible to load graphics in report with package srw. If it is possible, can you tell me how can I proceed?
    best regard.

    Not sure if this option is available in reports 6i, but in reports help contents search for:
    'read from file'
    In data model get the database field having image path. In report layout, open property inspector of this field and change property 'Read from File' from No to Yes and also change property 'File Format'.

  • Load defaults from file with event structure in vi

    Hi All,
    I've been trying to figure out how to do this but have not quite got there. Taken a look at lots of posts but can't quite find the answer to the question that i've got.
    I've got a vi for controling 4 PCI cards making calls to some DLL's. I've got quite a number of controls on the FP and i use an event structure to update the values on calls to the DLL. On startup, one of the first calls that i make is initalise and that sets the cards up. I then want to load my own set of default values from a file to initalise the cards to my particular set up. While the software is running the user may change the values and wish to save a file with the new default values, or he may wish to load a different file of default values (depending on the test that he is running). I've got the Control Values:Get All [variant] and the Control Valueset [Variant] working to save all the controls values to a file and read that file in and set all the controls values. So far so good. Problem is i'm using an Event Stucture and it doesn't register that the values have changed. I could complish this by using Value(signaling) but the data from the Control Values:Get All is variant data and the Value(signaling) needs the same data type as the control. What do i do?
    One thing i have thought about is to write all the values from the file to all the conrols and then have a read Value and a write Value (signaling) to trigger the events. Problem is i don't want to set this up for every control (it'll take me ages). Can i do it programitically? Is there a better way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    You could create a boolean control/indicator and signal that value when you've updated the values on the FP.
    Name it something like "update FP". The event case for that boolean will have the code to update the necessary parts of the FP.

  • Can I call a dynamically loaded subvi from a subvi inside a library?

    I have an application that uses a .lvlib, this library has many subvi's.  From my executable, I can dynamically load subvi's within the library using the "open reference.vi" and passing in just the name as long as the subvi's being called are listed in the "always included" list of my build specification.  What I want to do now is load an external subvi (external to the library) using the same method.  But when I try to do this, LabVIEW cannot find the external subvi even when it is included as part of the executable.  It seems the Paths are getting messed up.  Here is what is happening:
    Lets say I have Mylibrary.lvlib as my library in the following path C:\MyProject\Mylibrary.lvlib,
    and internal.vi as my subvi within the library in the following path C:\MyProject\MySubVis\internal.vi,
    and external.vi as my subvi outside of my library in the following path C:\MyProject\external.vi
    This is all in the same project.
    I'm using the "Open VI Reference.vi" from internal.vi to call external.vi, and I'm including both internal.vi and external.vi in my executable (MyEXE.exe for illustration purposes).  When I run this part of my code I get an error and LabVIEW reports the path of my external subvi as: C:\MyProject\MyEXE.exe\MySubVis\external.vi which is really the path for my library subvi.  Why?
    Either way, when I hard code what is supposed to be the correct path to my external subvi:  C:\MyProject\MyEXE.exe\external.vi, LabVIEW can't seem to find the file, its' almost like an access scope problem because I'm trying to access something outside of the library.  Is there such thing?  If the file is part of my exe why can't LabVIEW find it???  How can I call my external.vi BY NAME from my internal.vi??
    Any help is appreciated.

    Your hardcoded path is incorrect. How do you have the build configured? Are you using the new executable structure or the pre-8.2 structure.

  • Dynamically Loading Applet in an IFRAME

    Hi All!
    I'm not sure if this is the right place to put my question, since it's more of a JavaScript issue. But, I'll just test my luck here.
    I have a signed applet that I wish to load dynamically. What I did was to create an HTML document containing the applet then have another HTML document, containing an IFRAME element with it's source pointing to the applet HTML document. This is how it looks like:
    *Applet.htm (HTML containing the applet)<HTML>
    <BODY>
    <OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93"
              width="0"
              height="0"
              id="JavaPOSDiags"
              name="JavaPOSDiags"
              viewastext>
              <PARAM name="CODE" value="javapos.DiagApplet">
              <PARAM name="ARCHIVE" value="JavaPOSDiags.jar">
              <PARAM name="NAME" value="JavaPOSDiags">
              <PARAM name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.3.0">
              <PARAM name="scriptable" value="true">
    </OBJECT>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    *Main.htm (HTML containing the IFRAME that loads the applet)<HTML>
    <BODY>
         <iframe id="fxJavaPOS" src="Blank.htm" width=0 height=0 frameborder=0 style="display: none"></iframe>     <!-- Blank.htm is another HTML file that contains a blank document. ->
         <script language=javascript>
              var bAppletLoaded = false;
              function loadApplet() {
                   var eJavaPOSFrame = document.getElementById("fxJavaPOS");
                   if(eJavaPOSFrame != null) {
                        eJavaPOSFrame.src = "Applet.htm";
                        bAppletLoaded = true;
              function testApplet() {
                   if(bAppletLoaded) {
                        var eJavaPOS = document.getElementById("fxJavaPOS").contentWindow;
                        var eJavaPOSApplet = eJavaPOS.document.getElementById("JavaPOSDiags");
                        try {
                             if(eJavaPOSApplet != null) {
                                  //call applet's methods/properties here...
                        } catch(exception) {
                             //an exception occured...
         </script>
         <input type=button id=loadApplet value="Load Applet" onclick="loadApplet()" name=loadApplet>
         <input type=button id=testApplet value="Test Applet" onclick="testApplet()" name=testApplet>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>My problem is, when testApplet() is called, an exception is thrown once the applet reference is compared to null:if(eJavaPOSApplet != null).... I don't know why this happens. When I do remove the comparison statement and just proceed w/ calling the applet's methods/properties, the browser goes crazy. It seems that the line:var eJavaPOSApplet = eJavaPOS.document.getElementById("JavaPOSDiags");gives me an object, but, I'm not sure if it is the applet, because referencing eJavaPOSApplet, e.g. calling methods or comparing to null, causes the browser to hang.
    Could this be a Java security issue?
    Can anyone help me?

    How long does it take to load the same remote image in a browser? (clear the cache first)
    What code are you using to load and wait for the image?
    Have you indentified for certain that the 15s is entirely down to image loading and not anything else?
