Dynamic menu bar

I need to create a menu bar in a template that, when attached
to a page, will create a link to all the pages attached to that
page. I did this in frontpage with a "tool" but now I can't find
out how to do it in Dreamweaver.

Call me curious, why aren't you using one of the pre-built CMS frameworks for this? WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Concrete5... all lend themselves to this sort of thing without a lot of brain freeze.

Role based dynamic menu bar

I have been researching and researching and I do not know if I am going about it the wrong way or what, but I cant seem to find anyway to do a role based userbar,
so lets say I have a user who's role is a 7 in the ldap, I want to have it so he has a certain set of menu's show that is completely different than a user whos role is 2 or 3 and so forth
Is there a way to issue a line that states what a can and cannot see?
I was going through and going to make seperate static bars for each user account but I thought I'd see if this was even possible before I got too far into a flash build that could be easily distributed by creating one document and setting a user role.
Any help on this would greatly be appreciated

You can create menuitems loading XML from external files based on the role. Search for XML based dataproviders for menubar. I'll bet there's an example at Peter DeHaan's site.

Dynamic menu bar at bottom of screen

I use DataVault for encrypted information. The version on Z10 keeps losing the memu bar at the bottom on the screen. I've Ascendo and they say it is a BlackBerry 10 issue and they are adding their own navigation buttons on their next update. Are other software developers having similar problems with the appearing and disappearing menu navigation bar?

Also, I get a message that system.apps crashes from time to time

i managed to make each menuitem display but ther submenus can't/wont populate! you cant have nested spry regions, so how is it done???

actually you can have nested spry xmldataset so long as your spry is up to date ;-)

Spry Menu Bar Colors and Pictures in Dreamweaver

I'm having some trouble changing the color of the spry menu
bars that I created in Dreamweaver. Whenever I preview them in a
browser they show up as grey with black text. What I want them to
show up as is blue with white text before the mouse goes over them
and highlights them. When the mouse goes over them I want them to
still be blue with white text and also my drop down menu options as
well.
What would be the fastest and easiest way to do this and if
there is what css code is required for me to change? I'm unfamiliar
with how css code works.
I'm also having some problems with copying and pasting
pictures and editing them too. what software can i download that is
free that i can use to edit my pictures.
I have the trial version mind you and I'm trying to get this
finished as fast as I can.

Bring up your page and adjust the CSS in the
SpryMenuHorizontal.css or
SpryMenuVertical.css page that is attached. All the color
values are in
there.

You need to change this. Without a thorough working knowledge
of HTML and
CSS (at the very least), you will never have great success in
either
Dreamweaver or web design. I first learned web design using
Notepad, typing
every single tag, and I am soo grateful now that I had that
solid coding
experience .. without it, this program would be very hard to
master.

Free? I'm not sure any more .. you can use either the 30 day
trial of
Fireworks or Photoshop (Fireworks would probably be easier to
pick up) but
if you're going to do a lot of this, you need to get some
good tools and
learn them well.

Seriously Apple, why can't Leopard render a transparent menu bar on my Mac?

I have a 2-year-old PowerBook 12" 1.5 GHz running Leopard 10.5.2 freshly updated today. I thought for sure I'd get to see a translucent menu bar but, no, still opaque as ever with no option to change.
Apple, let me tell you some of the things this pretty capable computer can do:
-Dynamically render transparency and reflections in a magnifying Dock
-Dynamically render transparency in Terminal windows with varying levels of transparency
-Render GPU-intensive animations such as Genie effect, rotating cube, and dashboard "splash"
-Hey, I can even boot into Linux, run Gnome, and make it's menu bar transparent!
Please stop telling me my computer is not compatible enough to display a translucent menu bar. Displaying the transparency in the menu bar has got to be one of the least intensive operations Leopard will do. It is a static image (save for seldom changing menu items) that rarely needs to be re-rendered. Terminal windows, however, get resized, dragged around and display their transparency beautifully.
Let's get some straight answers as to why this simple issue of getting a Transparent menu bar consistently displayed (ot not displayed, by choice) across all of your "compatible" hardware is such a confusing mystery.

Thanks for your input. While you may not mind a solid menu bar, I quite like it and would like to have one. My main gripe however, is the fact that this really just seems like some bug that Apple isn't willing to focus on, or admit to.
They say the graphics card can render "most effects" but not the menu bar. But, seriously, as I've mentioned before, why can it render transparent drop-down menus, transparent Terminal windows, transparent/reflective Dock, Dashboard ripple effect but not a simple, basic, transparent menu?
Once I get a decent answer to this, I'll be satisfied. Because right now, telling me my 64MB graphics card can't handle it seems like a load of bulls**t.

Need help with Spry Menu Bar

Hello, I have two templates that I am using. Both have a horizontal menu bar across the top of the page and then two Vertical Spry Menu Bars down the left hand side of the page - one above the other. On one template, all menu bars are working correctly. On the other template, 2 out of three are working correctly. Not sure what's happening here. The spry menu bar that is not working correctly is under "Books & Materials" heading. The menu bar is supposed to turn green when you mouse over it, but instead everything turns white and looks like it "disappears". I have no idea why it would work on one template and not the other. Or for that matter, why it is working on one vertical spry menu bar, but not the other on the same page. Translucent menu bar is static, or not truly transparent (not live)

You can make the menu bar translucent, under: System Preferences / Desktop and Screen Saver, using the check box at the bottom of the Desktop pane.
If you do that while you're using a checkered or patterned desktop background (or wallpaper) image then it's easy to see that the bar does indeed become somewhat transparent, or at the very least, it is no longer opaque (pure white).
However, if like me, you like to make things more interesting, like say, use a screensaver as a desktop background so that your desktop is no longer a static image, but rather, displays dynamic content (i.e., something with motion), you may have used a command like the following, (without the quotes,) using Applications / Utilities / Terminal:
"nice /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.ap p/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &"
... which will launch your currently preferred screensaver as your desktop's dynamic wallpaper. (The "nice" prefix insures that this task will only take up precious CPU resources if it is not used by other programs, so that it doesn't end up slowing you down if you're really busy with something else.) Also, I find that it's easiest to choose a screensaver that draws contrasted lines, like Defocus for example, to make it easier to notice and differentiate the background from the menu bar itself.
Now, while you've got that screensaver as a background, you can toggle the translucence of the menu bar on and off and notice that it does indeed work, however, as the objects (or graphics) move around (or change) on your desktop, the menu bar stays the same; it doesn't update itself! Unlike a minimized quicktime movie (for example,) that keeps playing in the Dock even though it's so tiny, in this case, it's as though the menu bar took a snapshot of what should transpire behind (or through) it at the moment translucence was activated, and is never refreshed again. Meanwhile the transparency of other OS X controls work just fine, like the Dock and the Stacks.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or does anyone have a solution?

This is not true. It has to do with which computers support "core image", which has to do with your video card. I'm not sure of the specific ones that do or do not, but for instance, my Powerbook which has a Radeon 9000 in it does not support core image but my PowerMac which as a Radeon X800XT does support core image and does have the option for the transparent menu. The powerbook doesnt even have the option for the transparent menu bar.

Hi..,
Once you have created a menu bar, you enter the individual menu entries. Each menu can contain up to 15 entries.
A menu can contain any of the following:
Function names (with function code and text)
Submenus (pull-down menus)
Separators
You may include submenus up to three levels deep.
Menu functions that logically belong together are grouped together using separators. This makes the menu easier to use. Separators also make long menus easier to read by dividing them into smaller parts.
Defining Menu Functions
To add functions to a menu that is already open in the Menu Painter:
Open a menu list in the menu bar by double-clicking the menu title.
The system opens the menu. The menu entries list contains the two columns Code and Text.
In the Code column, enter a function code (this may be up to 20 characters long).
If you want to enter a function code that is longer than the input field, you must first change the displayed length of the field in the user settings. (Choose Utilities ® Settings ® User-specific.)
Enter the function text in the Text column.
The name you enter here appears in the menu at runtime. You can also determine the contents of function texts at runtime (see Defining Dynamic Function Texts).
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each item in the menu.
Creating Cascading Menus
To add a cascading menu (sub-menu) to a menu:
Leave the Code column blank.
Enter a menu name in the Text column.
Double-click the cascading menu to open it.
The system opens the menu entry list for the cascading menu.
Complete the menu as you would any other.
Inserting Separators
Place the cursor on a line.
Choose Edit ® Insert ® Separator.
If you want to insert a separator between two existing menu entries, place the cursor on the line before which you want to insert the separator.
Editing Menu Entries
You can cut, copy, paste, and delete menu entries.
Place the cursor on a line.
Choose Edit ® Entry ® Cut (or Copy, or Paste, or Delete).
If you double-click a function code, the Function Attributes dialog box appears. Here you can, for example, change the icon assigned to a function.

Add a link to the navigation / menu bar

I would like to add a home button infront of the My Workspace button in the navigation/menu bar at the top of my Vibe page.
What jsp of file should I edit to achieve this?

I didn't look for that JSP, but used the branding for a high level "menu" AND wrote my own JSP to have a dynamic horizontal menu based on a portion of the workspace tree. The problem with changing Vibe's grey menu bar is that any upcoming updates might destroy your tweak. I have a few of those I need to keep in mind whenever an update or patch is done.
With my JSP adding, removing or modifying workspaces/folders in the identified branch automagically changes on the fly generated horizontal menu with the next refresh/visit of the landing page using the JSP. The menu can be for any branch of your workspace tree. If a visitor doesn't have access to a workspace or folder, the menu skips right over it automagically as well.

It allows you to reorder the menu items and even drop some workspaces/folders from the menu with a simple trick explained in the article.
To see the JSP at work, go to CSDECSO - Conseil scolaire de district des écoles catholiques du Sud-Ouest or any of our 30 or so school web sites being implemented within our existing Vibe instance. You won't be able to change the tree branch, but you will see the menu. Some schools have slightly different menu choices, if you poke around long enough to find these differences. I just made them accessible to the public a few weeks ago.
Don't forget to use the integrated GoogleTranslate (generally near the Vibe printer icon in upper right corner beneath the branding and grey menu) to convert the bulk of our sites' content to any one of the 60 or so languages supported by Google. I have an article explaining how this was done as well. Of course, it is an automated translation, so don't expect perfection and don't be offended if it comes out the wrong way.

Define contents of menu bar from text file

I would like to list the contents of the menu bar dynamically by reading it from a text file. Is there a way to do this?

I suppose you can do it by using InstallMenuDimmerCallback () function: this command installs a function that is called by the system before the menu is shown so that you can dim / undim the appropriate menu items depending on the execution state. This is the original purpose: you could customize the menu bar instead by using SetMenuBarAttribute () to change the item name(s) and event the associated callback function. I have never used this function that way, though, so I cannot tell you how efficent the mechanism can be and how much delay will it introduce before the menu is shown.

Of Explorer Trees & Menu bars

This may seem like a dumb question, or that I'm not doing my work but I'm really stumped.
Using JSP, and HTML tag <DIV> one should be able to create a JTree equivalent display in a frame on the browser right? how is this done?
Plus, what about a menu bar?? the drop down would use <SELECT> tag?

Here is an excellent site with a free API for doing tree menu's. Its in javascript. But, you could use JSP page to dynamically generate the tree. The author has examples. It works great and I think this is what you are looking for:

Hide menu bar

Hi All,
Is it possibe to hide the menu toolbar?? Menu tool bar options like program, Edit.. I want to know how to hide the options at runtime...

I do not think that it is possible to hide menu bar entirely .
But from the list you can remove Program, Edit, Goto from the Menu bar. But You can not remove
the SYSTEM and HELP from the Menu bar .
Create a status with the specified name with out the adding in the menu barand write code in your program -
set pf-status 'STAT' immediately.
WRITE : 'TEST'.
This will remove Program, Edit, Goto from the list.
If you want to remove some subobjects of menu bar you can go for Transaction
variant (Transaction SHD0) but it will not work dynamically means it will be prefixed.

When i add menu bar in my user interface gives me error that this handle is not a panel handle(return value -42)

i have 3 panels in my application and parent panel is displayed first then i display other two panels which come to the front then on entering correct password i discard the child panel and then you can see parent panel , but there is an issue when i add menu to my parent panel i dont know whats wrong when i add menu bar in my user interface (parent panel) gives me error that this handle is not a panel handle(return value -42) for a child panel. when i dont open and display child panel then its fine , and even without menu added to my parent panel all my panels and my application works perfactly

some more informations are needed in order to properlu help you in this situation:
- Are you adding menus dynamically at runtime or in the UIR editor? If dynamically: how are you loading the menu bar?
- Are you dynamically tailoring the menu bar at runtime (adding or deleting menu items, dimming / undimming some of them or checking / unchecking)?
- Can you post the code where you are getting the error, documenting variables and scope (local to the function, global to the source file, global to the project)?
You can look at uirview.prj example that ships with CVI for an example of LoadMenuBar (the exampl eis in <CVI samples>\userint folder): in that project, the menu bar is shown as a context menu when you right-click on a tree element (see DeferredMenuCB callback).
