Dynamic parameter against table TVTWT

I currently have the table TVTWT linked in order to get the name description for the distribution channel.
For example, distribution channel 00 has two rows, one german and one english.
In my dynamic parameter for distribution channel, when I try to show the name description of the distribution channel in the drop down, I get only the german name description instead of the english description.  When I look at the connection for the datasource, the language is set to EN.  Is there anyway I can get around this issue?
thanks for any assistance.

  • Dynamic parameter with unlinked table

    Post Author: martinh
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    Hello,
I have 2 tables in my database. One table (table A) is for selecting the data (all kind of fields)
The other table (table B) is only to be used to have a parameter selection (table with name, value records). These tables have no link with eachother.
I need to have 8 parameter fields and each parameter field must pick a value from table B.
In my recordselection (on table A) I have tests to select records depending on parameters.
I have this working using 8 static parameters, but I have a list of 16 values.
So that means that for each of the 8 parameters I must enter those 16 values (and also in formula-fields I have make tests; total 8x16 lines of coding)
Therefore I wanted to use a table with the 16 values and link the 8 parameters to table B.
The problem is that CR says that there are 2 startpoints and also I see that the data is selected several times.
So how can I use table B only for the parameters without the need of linking this table B to table A, because there is no way to link this.
Hope anyone can help, because I didn't fond any documentation talking about this situation.
I'm using CR XI and CR 2008
    Thanks for your reply!
    Martin

The dynamic parameter does not have the functionality to 'type-ahead' and go to specific values in the list in that manner. The most you can do is go to values that start with a specific letter and scroll through them. This behavior is occurring by design.
By default, Crystal Reports will only return the first 1000 unique values for a dynamic parameter. This can be changed through a registry entry.
For information on changing the values retrieved for the dynamic parameter, you can refer to the following Business Objects Note.
    - Go to this link
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/advancedsearch?cat=sdn_ossnotes&query=&adv=true
    - Search for the Note: 1218588
When using a dynamic parameter, the limit will be a combination of all the values return at each level to reach the total number of records returned. Also the more records that you return to the dynamic parameter, the longer it will take to retrieve the data from the database.

  • Dynamic SQL : passing table name as parameter

    Hi
I have a SQL query (a store procedure )  that i want to convert to PLSQL
This is a part of my SQL query that i am trying to to find a solution for it, because i cant convert it to oracle :
    DECLARE lookupTableRow CURSOR FOR
      SELECT TableName FROM SYS_LookUpTable
      OPEN lookupTableRow
FETCH NEXT FROM lookupTableRow INTO @tableName
      WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS=0
      BEGIN

    EXECUTE sp_executesql @sql
      IF @counter=0
      BEGIN
      INSERT INTO T_TABLE_MAPPING VALUES('P_MAIN_METADATA', 'Table', @tableName)
      END
      ELSE
      BEGIN
      INSERT INTO T_TABLE_MAPPING VALUES('P_MAIN_METADATA', 'Table'+CONVERT(NVARCHAR(10),@counter), @tableName)
      END
      SET @counter=@counter+1
FETCH NEXT FROM lookupTableRow INTO @tableName
      END
      CLOSE lookupTableRow
      DEALLOCATE lookupTableRow
As i understand i can't use ORACLE dynamic sql (execute immediate) when the table name is a parameter
Furthermore when i execute this dynamic query in my SQL store procedure each SELECT statement return me as a result the relevant table rows , those result are different in each loop .
So i cant do this too with ORACLE dynamic sql .
    Please advice for any solution
    * how can i use dynamic sql with table name as parameter ?
    * how can i use a "dynamic" cursor, in order to be able to display the dynamic results ?

I have a SQL query (a store procedure )  that i want to convert to PLSQL
I doesn't help when you use one term to mean another thing.
SQL is a language used in both Oracle and other products, such as Microsoft's SQL Server. I don't know much about SQL Server, but Oracle (at least) doesn't support stored procedures in SQL itself; they have to be coded in some other language, such as PL/SQL.
As i understand i can't use ORACLE dynamic sql (execute immediate) when the table name is a parameter
If the table name is a parameter (or only known at run-time for any reason), that's exactly the kind of situation where you MUST use dynamic SQL.
The number of columns that a query produces (and their datatypes) is fixed when you compile a query, whether that query is dynamic or not.  If you have multiple queries, that produce result sets with different numbers of columns, then you can't combine them into a single query.  The best you can do with one query is to add NULL columns to some of the queries so they all produce the same number of columns.
If you're just displaying the results, there might not be any reason to combine separate result sets.  Just display one result set after another.
Whenever you have a question, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

  • CR2011 Dynamic Parameter does not show list at all

I am upgrading some Crystal Reports from CR 8.5 to 2011.  Some would be better served by using a dynamic parameter to allow the user to select the data for the parameter from the database information.  I have created a dynamic parameter on the Customer ID and set the description to be the customer name.  I have set it to handle multiple values.
When I preview the report in the Crystal designer, I get a text box to type in but not a drop down.  To be clear, I am not talking about the LOV 1000 limit here.  There are only 50 customers in the sample file I am working with.  I tried turning the static parameter into a dynamic one, I deleted the original parameter and created a new one.
In case it matters, the parameter is only used as part of the selection formula and if I enter a proper customer id, it will retrieve the data.  This report has about 7 tables (no stored procedures or views) and a subreport of two tables that is linked to the main report on the customer id.  The parameter is only used on the main report for record selection.  The SQL statement in the main report and subreport did need to be reset when I first opened the report in CR2011 but I did that on both.  I have verified the database and the option to verify on first refresh is checked.  The original parameter did have an imported list of about 3000 customer names.  I tried exporting the CR template to a new file and while the file size changed, the behaviour did not.
When I create a brand new report on two of the tables, including the same customer table, and create the parameter the same way, it shows me the list properly in a dropdown at the prompt stage.
I am not sure where to go here or what else to try.  If anyone has any suggestions, I appreciate the help. TIA, rasinc

    Thank for the reply Dell,
I see the logic in adding the extra table and keeping it unlinked and I do know the crazy data that can come up if I use it linked to other tables or use the fields in other parts of the programming.
However, I've now tried it several times, creating the parameter on just the name alone, with the ID alone, etc. and I still only get a text box to type into.
I have made sure the original selection criteria
    {customer.Id} = {?Customer}
if from the original table, not the new one, which I assume you expected me to do.
So I decided to run the same report through CR XIR2.  When I update the Set Datasource Location, I am now getting the message
    "Invalid Argument provided.
Details: The alias requested 'company', contains a combination of characters which is not considered to be valid"
Company is a table containing information about the main company, not the customers.  The same message pops up for another table as well.
Then I get a message that says:
"Prompting failed with the following error message: 'List of Values failure: fail to get values. [Cause of error: The table company does not exist in the document.]'
Error source: prompt.dll Error code: 0x8004380D"
This appears to be a database access issue but I know the firewalls are not a problem because I can create a new report and get the LOV properly with the same database and same desktop computer.  I can take that report created in CR2011 and use it in CRXI also and get the proper LOV.  Is it possible I am dealing with template corruption because there were so many items imported into the static list before?

  • Why Dynamic Parameter is not working, when i create report using stored procedure ?

    Hi all
Why Dynamic Parameter is not working, when i create report XI using stored procedure ?
Only i shaw those parameters which i used in my stored procedure, the parameter which i create dynamic using stored procedure
is not shown to me when i referesh the report for viewing the results.
I have used the same procedure which i mention below but can not seen the last screen which is shown in this .
    ============================================================================================
    1. Select View > Field Explorer2. Right-click on Parameter Fields and select New from the right-click menu.3. Enter u201CCustomer Nameu201D as the name for your parameter4. Under u201CList of Valuesu201D select u201CDynamicu201D5. Under the Value column, click where is says u201Cclick here to add itemu201D and select Customer Name from the drop-down list. The dialog shown now look like the one shown below in Figure 1. Click OK to return to your report design.
Dynamic Parameter Setup6. Next, select Report > Select Expert, select the Customer Name field and click OK.7. Using the drop-down list beside select u201CIs Equal Tou201D and using the drop-down list, select your parameter field (it should be the first field). 8. Click OK to return to your report design and see the parameter dialog. The parameter dialog will appear and show you a dynamic list of values that is updated each time your run your report. It couldnu2019t be easier! In our next tutorial, we will be looking at how to use this feature to create cascading parameter fields, where the values are filtered by the preceding selection.
    Dynamic Parameters in Action
My question is that whether dynamic parameter is working with storedprocedure or not.
When i added one table and try to fetch records using dyanmic prameters. after that i am not be able to find the dynamic parameter option when i referesh my report.
One more thing when i try the static parameter for my report, the option i see when i referesh the screen.
Please reply soon , it's urgent

    Hi Kishore,
I have tested the issue step by step by following you description, while the first issue works well in my local environment. Based on my research, this can be caused by the lookup expression or it indeed return Male value based on the logic. If you use the
expression below, it will indeed only return the Male record. So please try to double-check the record in the two datasets and the expression in your environment:
    =lookup(first(Fields!ProgramID.Value,"DataSet1"),Fields!ProgramID.Value,Fields!Gender.Value,"DataSet2")
As to the second issue, please try to use the following expression:
    =Count(Lookup(fields!ProgramID.value,fields!ProgramID.value,fields!Gender.value,"DataSet2"))
Besides, if this issue still exist, in order to trouble shoot this issue more efficiently, could you please post both the .rdl  file with all the size properties to us by the following E-mail address?  It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

  • Can I modify the data type of a dynamic parameter?

I am using CR2008 against an Oracle 11 db and have a report with dynamic parameters.
One of the report sources is a custom view that selects all of the possible 'pay ending dates' where one of the fields from this view is used as the source for the dynamic parameter.
The view performs a TRUNC on the date field in an effort to eliminate the TIME component.
The problem is that the parameter definintion defaults to DATE/TIME (vs. just DATE). I'm wondering if there is any way to modify the data type of the parameter to be DATE only.
I've searched several forumns but have not found anything.
One solution I can think of is to have the custom view format the date field as a VARCHAR (sans the time component) which I assume would force the dynamic parameter data type to string, and then have the report perform a todate function on the value when applying the criteria.
Anyone else have an idea? Just seems like CR should allow the developer to specify the data type- especially b/w Date and Date/Time, rather than make an assumption.
    Thank you in advance-
    emaher

    emaher,
    Here's what you can do:
Leave the existing date column as it is in the view...
Just add another column to the view that casts the the date as a VarChar data type and formats the date as you would like it to be.
So now you'll have 2 date columns in the view... 1 that's still a date and another that a character string.
Now for your parameter, use the date version as the parameter value and the text version as the parameter description.
Be sure to set the "Prompt with description only" is set to true.
This way the user sees the LoV in the desired format but there's not need to wrangle it back into a date for data selection.

  • How to dynamically update the Table?

    Hi All,
Hope somebody will help me out ot resolve my issue.
In my application, about 10 analog channels data coming in. Out of which two parameter needs to get updated dynamically on the table. (For each Rpm between 500-1000, in steps of 50, have to capture Pressure points & show it on the table.)
I seen there is one method called table method available which helps to set the value of a particular cell specified by corresponding row and column index.
I tried this. In row 0, col 0 & col 1 it put what value I specified by using that table method. when it goes to row 1, col 0 & col 1 also got updated but vanishing the above put row 0, col 0 & col 1 values. so at any point of time, I am able to see only the current row values.
Hope there should be some dynamic refreshing method available or else I dont know how to handle this situation. Pls. clarify.
    Thanks,
    Kousy

    Hi,
    Thanks.
But I am not able to update dynamically.
I just done slight changes to your update.vi. Just run Update_1.vi and after update
button is pressed, change the row, col index to see the update. please note
it is not able to update if matrix exceeds 3x4. i.e set row index=3
col index=0; new cell value = 10. it is not updating.. it might because of initialization
of 3x4 matrix values at the start.. ot the way I am trying out is bad?
By using Table method itself I got the solution what I want. I have attached that vi too.
just check out and reply if any flaw..
    Thanks,
    Kousy

  • Crystal Report Dynamic Parameter for SAP B1 version 8.8

Hi, does anyone have problem with the dynamic parameter prompt for Crystal Report in SAP B1 version 8.8?
    For example:
    1. For static parameter that allows multiple value --> In SAP B1 v8.8, there is a check-box and a "..." button next to it. When you click the "..." button, a new window appear with a list of values to choose.
    2. For static parameter that does not allow multiple value --> In SAP B1 v8.8, there is one field with a drop-down menu.
    3. For dynamic parameter that allows multiple value and does not allow range values --> In SAP B1 v8.8, just one field for us to key in the value. Shouldn't this be the same as No. 1?
    4. For dynamic parameter that does not allow multiple value  and does not allow range values --> In SAP B1 v8.8, same as No.3 above. Shouldn't this be the same as No. 2?
How do I get no. 3 dynamic parameter that allows multiple value and does not allow range values  to have a check-box and a "..." button next to it to allow us to select multiple values?

    Hi Shwu Hua Gan,
    Thank you for your reply.
Please forgive me as I don't really understand what you are saying here. To be honest, I'm very new to Crystal Report and my understanding of CR is just the very basics. I'm actually not from a technical background which makes it more difficult.
    In your reply:
Ie, you create a parameter in Crystal report, and by using the token eg:Mytest@select * from OCRD, it gives you the benefits of selecting the list from the database.
How do you do this by using the token? All I did is just select the parameter type (dynamic) and then select the table. When I preview the report in SAP B1 8.8, it doesn't prompt me like how I expect it to be. It is a blank field that I have to key in the value myself and then only the report will generate. Sometimes I don't remember what value to key in, so I have to do a formatted search for the blank field. After the report is generated, I can reselect the value (multiple values) from the CR viewer panel toolbar and refresh the report.

A common solution is to use a Union All in a query to get the ...All and the dynamic values using a Command Object.
select '...All' from tableUNION ALLselect field from table

  • Dynamic Parameter - Login Prompt

I created a command which has a paramenter in it. Crystal Reports automatically created the paramenter in the report. My problem is that when I run the report in infoview I am prompted for the database username and password. I have already set the datasources in my crystal report as well as in the cms setup the database and selected use the database connection and do not prompt.
I have narrowed the problem down to the dynamic parameter. I am not prompted for the username and password when I remove the parameter.
I am not sure if the problem is with my command given the fact that I am doing a select statement from two different databases or what. or
I changed the static parameter to a dyanmic parameter so that I could let me users select using a description rather then just a number.
    I'm using crystal reports 11.0.0.1282
    Richard

I don't know. I have tried to do it a few ways. Here is my query:
    SELECT     EmpName, ClockNbr, DeptNbr, DeptName
    FROM         SecurityLevels.dbo.ActiveEmployees AS TB1
WHERE     (ActFlag = '1') AND (NOT EXISTS
(SELECT     transID, employeeID, agreementID, agreeDate, fullname, DepID, ContractEmp, Login
                                FROM          iagree AS TB2
                                WHERE      (TB1.ClockNbr = employeeID) AND (agreementID ={?@Document})))
I'm grabbing a list of employees and then checking to see who is not in another table. I could figure out how to make this work in crystal by just adding the two tables to the report.

How many tables is there in the report? And, do you have any subreports? I'd recommend gaining experience with this by creating as simple a report as possible - one table - one field, create a recordset, pass that to this report. Does it work? It should. Now we have a bit of confidence and experience, so increase the complexity. But let me know answers to the two Qs above.

  • To populate dynamically created int table with data from other table

    Hi everybody,
I have already created an internal table dynamically, but now want to populate it with data from another IT depending on the plant name.
My dynamic int table contains fields with plant name like '8001' ,'8002' and so on.
no I want to read data from the other table and depending on bwkey which contains similar data like plant name , want to append to this new dynamic int table through read key statement.
I cannot reference the field name hard coded as it does not allow field symbol reference to be hard coded.
    Pls help.

  • Appending column to an dynamically created internal table

    Hi folks,
i have an dynamically created internal table <dyn_tab> which is based on a parameter p_table (  containing the table name ). now i want to add one more column to this <dyn_tab> table where i can store further information in. how can i do that ?
    i appreciate your help!
