Dynamic Parameters in MS Analysis Services and BPC

Hello Experts !
I need to execute a BPC Package, but in Microsoft Analysis Services I'm not able to have dynamic parameters, so I have to do it manually every time, because of the following problem when I try to execute it in Source Editor on Analysis Services.
"Parameter cannot be extracted from the SQL Command. The provider might not help to parse parameter information from the commnand"
The source is Sybase OLEDB
Best Regards,
Rodrigo

Hi Rodrigo,
I'm not sure I understood your question.
I'm refering to this: "but in Microsoft Analysis Services I'm not able to have dynamic parameters"
What do you mean?
Are we speaking about tasks to process cube or partitions of SSAS(SQL Server Analysis Services)?
Are you speakinga about tasks from SSIS (Sql Server integration services?)
Into SSIS you can build tasks to accept parameters.
You can have also tasks into SSIS which can perform actions into SSAS.
MODIFYSCRIPT variable is used to send parameters to tasks.
If you will clarify your questions then I hope I will be able to provide more details.
Kind Regards

  • MS Analysis Services and SAP BW

    Hello!
I need to solve the following problem:
The data for analysis is kept in MS Analysis Services. That data must be exported from it to BW.
But the primary task is to create appropriate InfoCubes in BW. Can that Infocubes be created in BW automatically on basis of cubes in MS AS or the appropriate InfoCubes in BW must firstly be created manually and then that InfoCubes can automatically be filled with data taken from MS AS as data source?
Note:I found an article on Integration MS AS and SAP BW (the last point):
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/1758a690-0201-0010-9e83-d1625f67496b#q-8
as I understand the first way of the integration among four given is consistent for my problem
    Thanks in advance!

  • SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services and OBI EE

    Hello,
How to use the Multidimensional import functionality of the BI EE Administration against a cube stored in a SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Thanks Christian,
The article you mention takes for granted that a valid Analysis Services XMLA URL is present, which is not my case.
I have found a good article on how to configure specifically Analysis Services 2008 here:
    http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/mglaser/archive/2008/08/15/configuring-http-access-to-sql-server-2008-analysis-services-on-microsoft-windows-server-2008.aspx
The article is the nearest I could find from my particular software platform (Vista).
What I'm currently dealing with is [nQSError: 64203] "XMLAnalysisError.0xc1010000", which is probably some security setting I have to get right. I will keep the thread updated if I move on.
    Thanks,

  • MS SQL database needs to run mdx query to analysis services to retrieve data from a BPC 10 Netweaver cube(view only)

We are in the process of migrating from BPC7 SP12 Microsoft sql server to BPC10 netweaver on a sql server with BW7.4 and need to integrate our home grown data warehouse which is on a Microsoft sql server.  The data warehouse currently connects to BPC7 using integration services/analysis services and runs mdx queries to analysis services to retrieve data from the BPC7 cube (view only).  Please provide documentation on how to create this same integration with our data warehouse using BPC10 netweaver on a sql server.

When you were setting up your ODBC data source for
the Text driver, did you click on the "Options"
button? There's a lot of options in there that I
didn't understand at first glance.Yes I clicked on the options button, but the only thing there is dealing with file extensions. I left it set to the default.
I have since tried closing my connection after I insert a record, I then try executeQuery, but still no luck. Seems strange that I can write to the file but not read from it. If any thing I'd expect the opposite problem.
I have also tried using the class "JoltReport" from the sun tutorial instead of my own with the same result.

  • Essbase Vs. Microsoft Analysis Services

Hello,We are comparing Essbase w/EIS to microsoft analysis services and I seem to have a problem. We have an outline with 8 dimensions and one of the dimensions has almost 84,000 members. On an essbase sun solaris server with 4cpu 4gb ram the cube is about 6GB and takes over 4 hours to calc(no formulas just calc all). On a single cpu windows 2k machine analysis services runs the same data into the same type of outline and rolls it up in about 30 minutes. To be fair I ran the same cube on the windows box in essbase and killed it after 13 days of calculating without finishing. The cubes are the same, have the same datasource and the same members(or whatever they are called in AS2k) and the results are the same.Any ideas why AS2k is so much faster? I'm loathe to switch to a Microsoft product, but the numbers don't lie. This is only 6 months of data and we are planning to have 4 years worth before long. The calc time is unacceptable in essbase.Thanks,-Brian

Well, the decision of which tool to choose should not be a function of who the vendor is - you should choose the right tool for the job.No - numbers don't lie - AS2K is much faster for straight up consolidations than Essbase. However, there are a few things to consider:1) Essbase tends to be a bit faster for querying (ad hoc analysis) than analysis services. Do some benchmarking on end user performance.2) Essbase scales better for large numbers of queries than AS2K - try hitting the server with lots of queries at once and see what happens.3) What is the purpose of this app? Is it just straight up consolidation? Is there going to be write back? If not, are there other apps you are looking to develop that will? Essbase is stronger than AS2K with respect to write back.4) Are there any complex calculation requirements? AS2K does not have a procedural calculation language. Calculations in AS2K are dynamic - calculated members and cells.5) Do you have ragged hierarchies? These are are hierarchies that are not symetrical - AS2K does not consolidate ragged hierarchies, so they are slower to query if they are large.6) Is the Essbase model tuned? I don't know how much Essbase work you have done, but that could be a factor (note - AS is usually faster than Essbase on rollups no matter what the configuration, all other things being equal).7) What front ends are you looking at for this tool? Who is the audience? Have you looked at the choices of front end tools of AS2K vs Essbase? My point here is that there is more to consider than just calc time. Sure, its great if a big cube calcs in 30 minutes, but what good is that if end user performance is poor, or the required calculations are not available?Anyway, just food for thought.Regards,Jade==================================Jade ColeSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity [email protected]

  • The schedule in Power BI report refresh error with the powerpivot or powerview with SQL Analysis services as data source

It is not currently supported. You might be able to create a linked server in SQL to be a proxy for the connection and enable scheduled refresh if you are desperate.

  • Is SQL Analysis Services black-holing my server's memory?

I'm running a SQL 2008 SP2 database engine on a server that also hosts analysis services and reporting services.  The server has 32GB of memory.  When I run performance monitor against it, I can see only 2.5GB in use:  see the included screen
shot.  Yet, the server reports that out of that 32GB, only 208 MB are free.
How can I discover which other process or 'gremlin' is sucking the missing 30 GB of memory?

How can I discover which other process or 'gremlin' is sucking the missing 30 GB of memory?
    Then check the other processes.
And yes, SQL Server and SSAS have a different strategy in utilizing the memory (RAM) and depending on the current workload it can happen, that e.g. SSAS requires the memory used by SQL Server and this can cause performance problem. If you use SQL Server
as data warehouse for SSAS, then you will see this effect extremely during cube processing.

  • SQL SERVER 2008 R2 Analysis Services

Would really appreciate help in this regard. It our production box
    Thanks

    Hi Inazakat,
According to your description, your SQL Server Analysis Services database cannot be processed that can be processed without any problems before, right?
Based on the message, file could not be opened. Please check the file for permissions or see if other applications locked it. It seems that the file is corrupt. This issue can be caused by that the file was deleted by antivirus. You can go to the corresponding
folder and check if this file exist or not. If this file was deleted or corrupt, you can open the original project on BIDS, and redeploy it to your server. And then process this database.

  • Cannot connect to Analysis Services instance

    Hi,
I'm new to analysis services and have been following through the tutorials here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170208(v=sql.100) for SQL Server 2008.
I've tried to deploy in visual studio 2008 and it gives an error saying it cannot connect. I've got sql server 2008 installed and I attached the 2008 Adventure Works database to my local default SQL instance. I can connect via management studio Ok. Also,
when creating the data source in visual studio I hit the "Test Connection" button which was also OK.
In management studio when I hit the connect drop down button in the Object Explorer, I get the option to connect to Analysis Services. When I do this it comes up with the server name "(local)" and uses Windows Authentication (I'm logged on to Windows as
Administrator). However, this fails with the following message "Cannot connect to (local). A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)"
I'm really stuck on this - has anybody got any ideas what might be going on?
    Cheers

As Todd mentioned, check whether the SSAS Instance is running. Also check whether you have a default instance or named instance. In case of named instance you have to provide also the instance name, when connecting in the form (machineName\InstanceName)
or for local instance (locahost\InstanceName) or (.\instance name).
To determine instance name, launch SQL Server Cofinguration manager ans check SQL Server Services. The instance name is in the Parentheses listed.
If you have installed the instance and forgot to add yourselves as an administrator of the instance, and have UAC enabled, you have to Lanuch the SSMS as an administrator to rise the priviledges. Then connect to the instance and add your username explicitly
    as administrator of the instance.

  • Can BO Universe extracted data to a SQL Server Analysis Services Cube

    Hello,
I have a situation where all the business rules and aggregations are defined in the BO Universe layer, however now they want to create cubes in SSAS (Sql Server Analysis Services) and create dashboards using Microsoft technology.
I am not sure if data and business rules including Hierarchies can be extracted from the BO universe to SSAS.  Any thoughts and suggesstions.

  • Error when deploy a project in SQL Server Analysis Services

Hi all, I tried deploy my project SSAS, but it send message error.
This is image before deploy myproject, it is star chema of project.
and this is the image when i try deploy it, error list.
I want to complete my project. How i can fix error list??? Help me.

    Hi Anhlovevietnam,
According to the error message, it seems that the Analysis Services account lack permission to access ‘QLTICKET’. By default, the default account for AS services has only public permission to few databases. If you haven't change the AS services account,
or haven't grant the permission for this account, then you cannot deploy the AS project to server.
So in your scenario, ensure the service "SQL Server Analysis Services" is running with a proper Log On As user. This user should have administrator permission on Analysis Services and the proper permissions on the database engine. To avoid this issue, you
can grant the SELECT permission for the default account for AS services to data source DB. Or you can change the services account to this domain user who has the corresponding to the data source DB.

  • Missing "Windows Service - SQL Server Analysis Services"

    Hi
In my SharePoint 2013 Central Administration (this is a Project Server 2013 deployment), I got an alert for this error:
PowerPivot: MidTier process account should have 'Full Read' permission on all associated SPWebApplications.
    After reading
this thread, I assumed I have the 2 accounts configured the wrong way, so I check
this article to see how to change the accounts, but on the section
"Change the account under which each service runs" it says to select
"Windows Service - SQL Server Analysis Services", which I can't find like as you can see in the screenshot below. How can I solve this? I'm new to this all, so if you could simplify the explanation I would be thankful, if not, I'll
just work on it anyway. :) Thanks!

    Hi ,
In the process of configuring PowerPivot for SharePoint 2010, automatically select the Analysis Services for SharePoint Integration feature. After configuring PowerPivot for SharePoint 2010, we can see
SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL Server PowerPivot System Service are started on manage services on server. So you can verify whether analysis service is installed for SharePoint on manage
    services on server.
More information, please refer to the links:

As Trevor said, for this issue, you can ignore it. Anyway, you can also check the link:

  • Analysis Services Tabular Model 2014 vs 2012

    Hi,
A very simple question : with the same tabular model is 2014 faster than 2012 from query point of view (is the Storage Engine or Formula Engine faster than the previous version ) ?
    Thanks

    Hi MIB1,
According to your description, you want to know if the SSAS 2014 tabular model has better performance than SSAS 2012 tabular. Right?
With exception to added functionality supporting Power View Reports against Multidimensional Models, SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services is unchanged from the previous release. There's nothing improvement on SSAS tabular.
