Dynamic playing of .wmv files

Hello Everybody!
I have stucked in to a problem ; Actually My client want to
design a site in which the user should be able to play .FLV &
Non .FLV files , Means he dont want to bound with a invidiual
format.
PLease Help me ...otherwise I amy loose this job.
Thanks in Advance!

Your client will not fire you because the client will need to
to pay someone else you lots of money to create a difficult to
maintain app. It will be cheaper for your client to convert videos
to FLV.
One idea is to use an HTML document to play Flash flv's
through the Flash player and other formats via other players as
folks now do on the net which would be the player they have
installed.
You might look at Director for multiple video formats and
wrap Flash inside but one it may not support all formats and two
the shockwave player is larger and needed to be installed on the
user web sites and three it is just more complicated but deserves
at least $150.00US/hr rate for the right pro and four who knows
when Director development/support will become frozen.

  • HT3775 What is required to play a .wmv file on a MAC OS X 10.6.8?

I have a MAC desktop with an MAC OS X 10.6.8 and have tried everything known to man to be able to play an .wmv file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Not all of Microsoft's codecs have been licensed to be ported to other platforms, so it's quite possible that you cannot play that WMV in Mac OS X, even though it does not contain DRM. You can try asking for assistance in the Flip4Mac forums:
    http://forum.telestream.net/forum/default.aspx?FTVAR_SUBCAT=5&NoCookies=y&subcat name=Flip4Mac%20WMV%20Components%20For%20QuickTime
and they may be able to help. Otherwise you'll probably have to use a Windows system, either on your Mac or another computer, to view that video.
    Regards.

  • No video when playing a .wmv file?

I have a problem with a .wmv file. When I play it in QuickTime or VLC, I hear audio only, but no video. I have the latest Flip4Mac plugin and have no problems playing other .wmv files. The first time I played the file in QuickTime, as was directed to the Apple QuickTime components web site (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&ctype=696d6463&c subtype=4d535332) because "Additional software is required by QuickTime to playback this media...". But I see no plugin on that web site that would be applicable.
I would be grateful for any ideas as I want to purchase educational videos from this vendor, but can not if their files won't work on a Mac. The 43MB file can be downloaded here for testing: http://files.me.com/pschannong/x20p20
I run 10.5.6 on an Intel Mac.

Thanks. That explains it. The person who made the .wmv file says it was made with Camtasia Studio. Do you have any idea what he might have done for it to choose this MSS2 codec over something more universally compatible?
Camtasia is a screen capture application for Windows (like Snapz Pro for mac). We use it here, it works quite well but you get WMV files and tough darts, I guess if you want other than that. I presume real time capture of activity on the screen calls for a codec simple enough to keep up and not drop frames. It does work quite well though.
Play it on WMP in Parallels, Boot Camp, etc.

  • Premiere Pro can't play specific WMV files

Just installed Premiere Pro and imported some WMV files.  It plays back the audio but no video.
I know my computer has the correct codec for it because I can watch them in Windows Media Player without any problem.  Other WMV files and Mpeg files play in Premiere Pro just fine, but I can't understand why some WMV files play and some don't.
Is there a specific way to see what codec these files are using, and is there a way to test that Premiere Pro is picking up all of the codecs on my computer?

  • Even with Apple Quick Time 7.7 I cannot open, much less play, any wmv files.  It gives me only the code behind the file, never the video. What's going on?

I never have been able to open wmv files/attachments with the Apple Quick Time player I've got on this MacBook Pro.  A click on any wmv file leads me only to Text/Edit and all the code behind the file.  What is going on?  I have Quick Time 7.7 (1680.25).

Those are Windows Media files, and they're not supported natively in any version of QuickTime. You can view them in some third-party applications, such as VideoLAN Client, or you can install the Flip4Mac QuickTime component which makes them playable in QT Player.

  • Cannot play QuickTime WMV file.

I have a video file on my desktop I received via email. The icon has the QuickTime logo on it and wmv written on it as well. The file name ends with .wmv. My computer cannot run this file. What can I do to run this file?
    Thanks you.
    Pasquale

You need Flip4WMV from Microsoft's website it's free. WMV is Windows Media player format

  • WMV files will not play in WMP using FireFox ver 7, downgraded back to 3.6 and all works just fine. Running XP Pro on four machines and the three that were upgraded to ver 7 could not play the wmv file, you receive a protocol error.

I had all plugin, addons and what not configured along with serching every site possible to try and fix this. Let me know when you get a fix.

hello.   hey, thanks very much for writing back.  i got some good info with a search or two.  (info about what regedit is and what corresponds to it in OS X -- regedit allows you to edit "preference" keys for individual programs,  OSX's equivalent for these keys are the .plists in User & System: Preferences and Application Support)
what i ended up doing was uninstalling Premiere Pro (not the suite, just PPro).   Then i deleted a few preference files:
    from User /Preferences/Adobe:
    com.adobe.AdobePremierePro.plist
    com.Adobe.Premiere Pro.5.0.plist
    and from System Preferences:
the file:  Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs
    and..
    /.../Premiere Pro/5.0/...
AMEPrefs.xml     (i noticed that there's also a preference file in Media Encoder's own folder so i didn't sweat this one)
    Debug Database.txt
    Placeholder Preset.epr
    PostEncodeCmds.pref
    PresetCache.xml
    Trace Database.txt
    NOTE:
of course i don't know if deleting any files beyond the 2 .plist files in User Prefs was necessary, but...  it seems to have worked.
I then reinstalled Premiere Pro CS5, and fired up an old project and i've got playback of HD and DV files, and snappy editing and rendering,  so hopefully i'm good to go.   I'm just going to stick with v5.0.0 because i actually don't remember ever having any trouble with it, and i don't remember v5.0.4 adding anything i was 'missing' or 'needed'
hopefully, this thread will be useful for any future folks that run into trouble - and it's got a solution for both Windows and OS X
    happy editing,
    peace

  • Unable to play wmv files in authorware

    Hi,
I am trying to use a digital movie icon to play a wmv file.
The file plays fine on my computer and I have also tested it on
other computers. When I place the file in Authorware, I see a black
image where the movie should be. Neither the movie or sound plays.
I have tryied multiple wmv files with the same result. Is this a
codec issue? Any tips to what I am doing wrong would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Sara

What version of Authorware are you using?
Assuming Authorware 7, linking to a .wmv should require the
    movie icon
to use the Windows Media Player control, which should allow
    the .wmv to
play as it does on your desktop. If this isn't happening,
    perhaps try
renaming the extension to .wmp and re'import' into
    Authorware? Maybe
that will force the WMP engine to start.
There's a sample on using the WMP ActiveX control here:
    http://www.awaretips.net
which is a little dated, but may be worth downloading and
    trying with
your movie just to see if that approach works.

  • Playing wmv files in Quicktime Pro

I really want to play wmv files in quicktime. I read that quicktime pro should be able to do so. I have quicktime pro but nether Quicktime Player X or Quicktime 7 Pro can open it, and I know the file isn't corrupted cause it plays on a windows computer. Please help

You need to install Flip4Mac to play unprotected WMV files. WMV content which contains DRM can't be played in Mac OS X.

  • Playing WMV Files From An Email

If this has been posted previously, please forgive me for not finding it. Simply, how can I play a WMV video file attached to an email in iPhone 3Gs? Is there an app for that?!?!?!?

WMV is a closed/proprietary Microsoft standard.
In order to play WMV files on your Mac you need the Windows Media Components for QuickTime installed, which is not provided by Microsoft. Before this, Microsoft provided and supported a Windows a Windows Media Player app for OS X, which they no longer provide or support.
There will be no Windows Media Player app provided by Microsoft for the iPhone/iPod Touch and Flip4Mac, which provides and supports Windows Media Components for QuickTime on a Mac needs to provide the same for the iPhone and iPod Touch in order to play a WMV file on the iPhone, which they haven't done and not sure if they have any plans to do so or are able to do so.

  • Front Row: problems playing WMV files

I’m running a Macbookpro OSX 10.5.7, and have been working to config Front Row to play the movies on my hard drive (not in iTunes). I’ve installed both flip4mac and Perian in order to play all file types. This works great for QuickTime and the web. Front Row, however, has a problem playing my wmv files (all others play fine). When a wmv file is selected in FR, it only plays for a few seconds, then stops and returns to the movie list. I researched the solution provided by VideoDrive, which works, but I prefer to organize my videos into subfolders by category, rather than all in an alpha list in iTunes.
If I play a wmv in it’s entirety in Quicktime, it will then play in Front Row. This tells me it’s some sort of cache issue? My attempt to test this theory has been inconclusive, prob due to my ignorance.
    Troubleshooting to date has been:
Quitting FR from the Activity Monitor
    Deleting user/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
    Uninstalling and reinstalling flip4mac
    Installing Perian
Would prefer not to have to rip all of my video to mp4 (I use iSquint), but I’m out of ideas.
Apologies in advance if this is covered elsewhere.

Sorry but no. Unless you want to convert them, you'll need to play your WMV files in Windows Media Player.

You'll want to consider contacting Telestream directly, here's their support link -

That's not an Apple product and I really think dealing with them directly is going to get you quicker, more efficient help.
