Dynamic step numbers?

Sounds complicated and i have read up on section markers and it comes close to what i want to do. Maybe i dont understand it that much and i do apologies if there is another post like this lying somewhere hidden.\
Below is a screenshot of the template i am working with. I would like the step numbers(Blocks) to be dynamically numbered with each new page i create. If it is possible a little help will be great. If nothing can be done thanks for looking.

What about using auto numbering in a paragarph style

  • Run out of step numbers in the Pricing Procedure

    Hello gurus,
Has anyone come across the following situation:  Within the pricing procedure I want to insert a new condition type but there are no 'free' numbers available within the procedure steps to enable me to do this
e.g:  These are the steps in the Pricing Procedure
    Step     Cntr     Ctype     Description
    290     0     ZLTS     Type1
    293     0     ZLTD     Type 2
    296     0     ZDIF     Type 3
    297     0     ZLEX     Type 4
299     0          Net Value Before Tax
    300     0     MWST     Type 5
    302     0     ZWR2     Type 6
    303     0     ZWR3     Type 7
My new condition type should be applied on the Net Value Before Tax and before VAT (MWST) but there is no available step number i.e Net Value Before tax = step 299 and MWST = 300.   i.e new condition type should go in between 299 and 300.   Any ideas of how to get around this?
    Many thanks in advance....

    hi,
you can shfit 299 0 Net Value Before Tax to 298, but you need to check all the alternative calculation types if any susbsequent condition is making us of this step in their calculations. We, use the step numbers(STUNNR) in our alternative calculation types, so if you change their number or sequence you will disturb the calcuation of other pricing conditions.
so please evaluate from that angle.

  • Dynamic Page Numbering for DPS documents

Since we don't have just 1 document for the entire publication; is there any way to have a footer that has the page number in any way? (without having to manually update every page?)

    Use the book feature.
But it is difficult to number your publication if you have vertical and
    horizontal pages.
And why do you need page numbers anyways? Digital has hyperlinks and scroll
    bars for solid navigation

  • Step numbers don't reset to 1

    Hi all,
This just started in one document.
My step numbers are not resetting. Usually, if I have a set of steps, then a new section with a heading tag like h1, h2, or h3, the next time I use my step paragraph tags, the steps start at 1. Now, after a new heading tag, the steps just keep incrementing. Not in the whole document, just parts.
I inherited this template. All steps are step1. The autonumber format for my step1 is S:< >< ><n+>\t
In a related problem, I use step2 for a, b, and c steps between the numbered steps. That tag is doing the same thing. In one section they go a, b, c. Two heading tags later, they go d, e, f. The autonumber format for my step2 is F:< >< >< ><a+>:
For troubleshooting, I've saved the file as MIF, and saved it back again. As Art suggested in another post,  I looked for a culprit in between the sets of steps and found nothing.
    Thanks,
    Carl

It sounds like your template was set up with an infered structure where the step2 level should only exist if there has been a h2 level inserted. Otherwise, the steps should be a step1 level.
Here are some references to FM's autonumbering schemes that use the Matrix method shown in your numbering examples. These should help you decipher how you need to set your autonumbering:

  • Dynamic Page Numbers

    Dynamic Page Numbers
How do I make dynamic page numbers? So that for each record it will have its own page number?
    i.e.
record 001 is 3 pages, at the bottom of its pages it says 1 of 3, 2 of 3 and 3 of 3.
record 002 is 1 pages, at the bottom of its pages it says 1 of 1.
    record 003 is 4 pages, at the bottom of its pages it says 1 of 4, 2 of 4 , 3 of 4 and 4of 4.
Is there a way to do this??
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi Robert
    This is how:
Create a "Page Number" field, say PN, and a "Total Pages" field, say TP, in the margin.
Set "Visible" to no for both the fields.
Create a Boilerplate in margin with text:
    Page &<PN> of &<TP>
Against both the fields, set "Reset At" property in "Page Numbering dialog" to the Repeating frame that surrounds record00?

  • Dynamic step-by-step instructions for training simulation

I'm looking for some guidance with an idea for having a dynamic step-by-step list for a training simulation created in Captivate 7.
The default behavior when creating a guided training simulation is for the steps to appear in a text box nearby the click box. Instead, I'd like to stack the step-by-step instructions in a panel on the left side of the screen that would sit next to the simulated interface on the right side of the screen. All of the high level steps would be visible throughout the simulation and each step in the panel list would be highlighted as appropriate.
I began with Lilybiri's Knockout blog post ("Create and Use a 'Knockout' Master Slide"), which seems like a possible solution, but I haven't yet gotten to the point of adding my dynamic instruction panel.
In essence, the dynamic panel will function as follows:
Step 1 in instruction panel is highlighted at start of simulation.
Learner clicks associated step 1 click box in simulation interface (as instructed in instruction panel).
On click of step 1 click box, step 2 in instruction panel is highlighted and step 1 highlight disappears.
Learner clicks associated step 2 click box in simulation interface (as instructed in instruction panel).
And so on through all steps listed in the instruction panel.
I'm working on mocking something up using variables and advanced actions to achieve the dynamic instruction panel and want to overlay it on the left side of the screen. I'm thinking it would sit on top of the left panel in the Knockout.
In various posts, I've seen that it's not advisable to insert a Captivate SWF into another project file, so it seems that Lieve's Knockout approach is the way to go. I am happy to tackle the technical aspects of this on my own, but first want to confirm that it is even possible with Captivate or if it would make more sense to use Flash. Has anyone done something similar or does anyone see any issues with this approach?
Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!
    Nancy

    Hi Lieve,
Thanks for replying. I'm using Captivate 7.
I'm hoping to work through it myself and then possibly post something to help others who may see value in something like this, so having you confirm that you believe it's possible is helpful - thank you.
I've worked out the basic technical approach and now need to integrate my instruction panel with your Knockout approach. If I can get it working, I will definitely share.

  • Step numbers displaying large, help requested

I'm running the 30-day trial of RoboHelp9. I opened a copy of a project that looks fine in RoboHelp7 and Robohelp9 put it through a conversion process. I'll attach pix of how steps looked before (normal size numbers) and how they looked now (big numbers).
Looking at the style sheet, there's no instruction that says "make the number before the step enormous." Redefining the style works, but not automatically across the board; you have to repply the style to each instance where it occurs in order to get the new look on the output.
    Any suggestions?
Also will attach old RoboHelp7 style sheet and style sheet as reinterpreted by RoboHelp9, if I can find anything on this page that looks like an attachment button. Maybe the Insert Image button works for that too....   Nope, not seeing how that happens.
    Thanks.

That is a problem seen on upgrading to 8 or 9. See Lists on my site.

  • Dynamic Step insertion Cause -17301 for 2nd UUT

    Hello,
    Purpose :
Inserting "None Adapter" step into sequence DURING execution using TS_API and DLL_Adapter.
    Status :
Thanks to the example "inserting a step using labwindows", I successfully inserted the step into the cleanup sequence from withing my DLL. And I can find the result in report
    Trouble :
If I put my call in the Setup and try to insert my step
in the mail sequence, It is working ONLY THE FIRST TIME the sequence is executed, the second Time It causes:
"UUT Result: Error, Invalid step index '1' for 'Main' phase in sequence 'MaSeq'. [Error Code: -17301, Index out of range.]
    Please Help !!

    To TS_diver -
I am not sure which example you are referencing, but inserting a step into a run-time copy of a sequence that is running cannot be supported by TestStand. It may work in certain circumstances, but the key issue of non-support by TestStand is that for each step in the run-time copy of a sequence TestStand expects a corresponding step to exist in the edit-time copy of the sequence. Some of these references are by pointer and some are by index. TestStand uses the edit time copy of the sequence for various information. We do this for performance reasons and it also saves memory.
The only thing that I can recommend is to create a placeholder step that you call conditionally run using preconditions. If you need to configure the step, you
can use the API to update the properties of the step prior to running the step.

  • Why are step numbers larger than text font?

I just upgraded from RH7 to RH9, I find that when I generate Webhelp, the autonumbers in steps are larger than the font used in the text. This only shows up in the generated output, not the source. Bulleted lists, on the other hand, look fine. Bullet size is commensurate with text font size.

Thanks again, William.  I think that is a good suggestion. However, for some reason, the problem seems to have corrected itself. Several webhelp generations produced the anomoly, so it wasn't just a quirk of one compile. In fact, I think I saw this when using the trial version a month or so ago. Anyway, the only thing I did that might have affected this change is that I changed style sheets to the default for on compile and then switched back to my custom style sheet. Now I am generating ordered lists with the correct font size.
If the problem appears again, the first thing I'll do is try your latest suggestion.
    thanks again.

  • Dynamic record numbers being used in subsequent scripts

    Here is my test scenario...
I make a purchase and my purchase is given a unique receipt number.
In a seperate script, I want to pull up this receipt number to test return and change functions.
What is the simplest way for me to do this?
I was hoping to take this receipt number and somehow apply it to a databank file which would be used in other scripts.
I'm sure there is a VB solution but are there other solutions?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!!
    boslax

    Hi boslax,
You are correct that this is possible through VBA. However, there is another way that it can be accomplished through the use of e-Tester Jobs and Page Content Variables. It's a bit difficult to explain via email, but here's the idea...
Create a script in e-Tester that gets you to the point where the unique receipt number is created. Right-click on that page of the script and choose "Add Page Content Variable". You should then be able to "mouse-over" the receipt number. Once you mouse-over that value, you can click on it to "lock in" on that value. (Now, here's where this gets a bit tricky. If the value is not part of some unique element on the page, it may be difficult to trap just the receipt number. We'll have to add a regular expression that parses out just the number. This can be done by selecting the "Build Pattern" button next to DOM Property Regular Expression under the Manage Variables menu.)
Once you click on the value, select OK on Dialog Box. You can then give that variable a name. Click "OK" and save the script.
    Record a new script now that goes out and searches for a receipt number. After the script has been recorded, we can overwrite the recorded receipt number with the Page Content Variable from the previous script. Find the Parameters node of the page where the receipt number is passed to. Right-click on the Parameter and choose "Selection Properties". The Recorded Value should now be showing. In the "Mapped to Variable" field, type in your Page Content Variable Name and enclose it within Curly Brackets...eg. {{Variable_Name}}
Click OK and save the script.
Last step :) Now you can create a job that appends the two scripts together. Go to File/Job/New Job. Then right-click on the job name and choose "Append Existing Script". You can then choose the two scripts that have been created. They will run one after another and it should do the search on the unique receipt number. If you have any problems, please let me know...

  • Dynamically calculate numbers in a form without submit

If I have a form for ordering products, quantity and price,
I'd like the total on the bottom of the form to update as a user
changes the quantity of the item (before submitting the form). I'm
wondering if CF has tags to do this?
    Thanks

    > If I have a form for ordering products, quantity and

    > on the bottom of the form to update as a user changes

    > (before submitting the form). I'm wondering if CF has
    tags to do this?
Conceptually, this is not CF's job to do, so - no - CF does
    not provide any
tags to achieve it. CF runs on the CF server; the form is
    sitting on the
client browser: how is CF supposed to know what the values
    are to add up?
You need to use clientside scripting for this: eg:
    JavaScript. I suggest
you have a read up on that. There are stacks of resources on
    the 'net, and
    - to sound like Dan Bracuk for a moment - Google will help
    you find them.

  • Assignment of Step type and CR step for MDG_S

    Hi
This is in continuaton for thread MDG_S workflow.
I original issue which is for MDGS when I assigned WS543000005 to CR type and sumitted CR goes no where,
As as per SWEL it  shows No Reciver Found enen though GET_AGENT table is maintained.
In another system I found that WS531000044 is assigned ti CR Type Then I tested it and found that CR creates Work Items also upto final processing.
    as per below
Before CR Submission : CR status is 02: Changes to be executed
After CR Submission : CR status is 01:To be considered and Approved
After CR Reviewer approves : CR status is 09: Dependant Data to be processed /Approved
After Purchase reviewer Finalize processing :CR status is 09: Dependant Data to be processed /Approved
After Finainace reviewer Finalixe processing :CR status is 09: Dependant Data to be processed /Approved
Now I can not see CR any where even though CR step 04 and 04 assigned to my user ID
I have some questions as Description in Define Change Request Steps is not Mataching with description in GET_AGENT desesion table.
Also it is observed that step 80 is not assigned to WS531000044 in IMG node Define Change Request Steps but it can be seen in GET_AGENT decesion table and step no 06 and 07 does not appears in GET_AGENT decesion table ( In edit mode).
Can you explain from where assignment of  CR steps to CR type in desion table are taken ino accout ?
Why description is not matched for steps under IMG and in decesion table?
Can you explain me releationship between CR step and step type,CR Status and where they \maintained in IMG and how proceeses modelling is diffenent t for determination of Next CR step in case of WS531000044 ?

Please keep in mind that "hard-wired" workflow templates are just that: hard-wired. This means that a specific workflow template (for example WS53100044) will always have the same number of steps, each step will always have the same type and number, agents will always be assigned in the same way, and those can't be altered by configurations. To understand each workflow template's behavior, you can either open that template in transaction PFTC or SWDD, or alternatively, read the exact behavior in SAP Help documentation. You basically need to google the workflow template number and you should be able to find the description of each template's behavior (by the way, the number you type has an extra zero so if you can't find a match on Google, you will know why ).
Now, the assignment of CR steps to CR type is done in the workflow template itself and NOT in the decision table. See the first screenshot:
The step number above "should" correspond to what is in the configuration table (for readability and consistency of documentation purposes). However, if for some reason, it does not, the hard-coded value is the value that will actually be considered. So, in technical terms, the assignment of step numbers in MDGIMG has no influence on how the workflow template will behave. Again, the main purpose is for the corresponding description in the step number configuration table to show on the CR window.
The other thing is the step type. A step type purpose is mainly to indicate what set of buttons will show at the top of the CR window. The fact that step types are represented by numbers confuse a lot of people with step numbers. I would have personally preferred if step types were a 2-char field so that a clear distinction can be made between step types and step numbers. In any case, buttons on the CR correspond to actions and you can see in MDGIMG that you can assign step types to actions. SAP delivers a pre-defined set of step types and associated actions. Those must NOT be altered because they could break the standard workflow templates. However, you can create your own custom step types and link them with as many actions (standard or custom actions) as you like. But again, you can't assign those custom step types to hard-wired workflow templates. You can only use them in your custom workflow templates or in the rule-based workflow.
Now, the question is how does the hard-wired workflow know what step type to use. The answer is easy: you can either find that in the SAP Help documentation or in the workflow template definition in transaction SWDD. For the above screenshot, the step type is 2. You can find that if you double-click the task ID TS75707980 (or display it using transaction PFTC) and look in the "Cntainer" tab. In this case, this task will ALWAYS have type 2. Other tasks are assigned different step types or are more dynamic in the sense that they expect the step type to be passed from the main workflow template calling them. For example TS53200002 will always have type 7, TS60808005 will always have type 5, and TS60807954 accepts the step type dynamically. This last one is the one used in the rule-based workflow (hence it has to read the step type configured in the decision table).
I hope this answers you question. You definitely need some level of workflow design/build knowledge in order to be able to completely understand all of this. Hopefully, this gives you a good starting point.

  • Adding Validator step in MDG Customer workflow

    Hello All,
I need to add validator step in MDG - Customer workflow - WS54300003 and process is, requestor will create CR and it should go to Validator. Once he approves then it should go to final approval team. Currently it is going to final approval stage at first step itself.
I added that additional step(Validator) to workflow templete(WS54300003) under processing modeling->workfloe->other MDG workflow->Define Change Request Step Numbers. Also, assigned process at  ...-->Assign processor to Change Request Step Number (Simple Workflow).
Seems i am still missing some thing. Could you please guide me what else need to be done? we are on MDG 6.1

step numbers are hard-coded in this workflow template (WS54300003). if you open any task container, you will see the value of the step in the container of that task.
any way, you should not modify workflow WS54300003 as that is considered modification to standard objects. you can copy it to a custom workflow template and then add any new step as you like. you can assign whatever number you like to any step as long as the numbers in the workflow template are consistent with the numbers assigned in the MDGIMG configuration node.
A recommended solution is to use the rule-based workflow template. your MDG process will be much more dynamic and a lot easier to modify/enhance going forward.
this document can help you understand how you can use the rule-based workflow template: How to Fill MDG Rule-Based Workflow Decision Tables
