Setup Dynamic Updates on LMS a few months back and tested ok with a WS-C2960-24PC-L running c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-52.SE. Dynamic Updates has now stopped working! no changes on LMS or on switch. i've attached a trace debug for MAC UHIC - i can see the mac address (sent by the 2960) ok but the process ends with "macuhic INFO MacUhicDBTransaction: No data in the MAC notification entry.getMacEventSize() is 0". i've also attached the mac notification config on the 2960.
previously i could configure the 2960 switch from LMS through the Device Trap Configuration page. now when i try this i get:
There are no ports to configure for the selected device(s).
Check whether you have selected any router(s).
any ideas on where i go from here?

2010/10/08 16:15:33 main macuhic INFO TrapListenerFilterImpl: FileNotFoundException occured since Campus Data Collection has not run even once
2010/10/08 16:15:33 main macuhic INFO TrapListenerFilterImpl: NullPointerException occured since there are no XML files. XML file will be generated only at the completion of Data Collection
i checked NMSRoot\campus\etc\cwsi and these files didn't exist.
i reinitialized the ANI database and done a network discovery before running a full Data Collection. Data Collection finishes but the vlanData.xml and portsData.xml still aren't created.
when i now try and run a manual UT acquisition i get the error:
Failed to start acquisition: Construction of XML data required for UT is in progress. Please try after some time.
there are 2 autonomous AP managed by LMS but i excluded them from the Data Collection - does this sound like bug CSCtd49439?
i've attached a pdshow output - the ani.log contains a lot of IP/naming which i'll have to edit

10.9.2 Update Issue (VPN) - Eclipse Perl debugger issues while connected to VPN

I have yet another issue related to 10.9.2 update - Eclipse Perl debugger issues while connected to VPN...
One of the big changes introduced by 10.9.2 update - are VPN changes (security fixes). Unfortunately, whatever these changes are - they "broke" Eclipse (OpenSource IDE) debugger. I am not sure if *all* programming languages (Eclipse plugins) are affected by this, but I know for sure that 'Epic' (Perl plugin) debugger *stopped working* while system is connected through VPN.
Here is the error that gets “popped-up” in the Eclipse:

I was able to prove that this issue is related to 10.9.2 update:
Issue *does not* exist under 10.9.1 (I had to revert back to 10.9.1 to get it working again)
No updates were performed around the same time 10.9.2 update occurred (I verified that using Software Update log)
No configuration changes were introduced around the same time
Reverting back to 10.9.1 using Time Machine (thanks god I had backup !!!) fixed the issue
Steps to reproduce this issue:
In Eclipse, try to use 'Epic' (Perl plugin) to debug any perl script while *not* connected through VPNEpic debugger works
Connect to VPN
Start Epic debugger to debug same script
Debugger *does not* start, and "Timed out while waiting for Perl debugger connection" error pop-up comes up after some time. At the same time, exception stack (listed above) is printed in Eclipse's console
I am programmer/software developer, I work remotely (telecommute) and thus have to rely on use of VPN to connect to company's intranet. Perl - is primary language used by my team, and we use Eclipse IDE with Epic plugin - heavily. Use of Epic's debugger - is a *very large* aspect of my work, I cannot work without it. So in essense, 10.9.2 has *entirely* disrupted my ability to work! It took me almost a week to get back to normal work environment, and I cannot afford to let it happen again... I need Apple's development team resolve this VPN related issue, as soon as possible! Because of this issue, I am *stuck* with 10.9.1 and can not upgrade my laptop to any other versions. In fact, I had to disable system updates - just so I do not run into this issue again... I contacted Apple's Tech Support on 02/28 with this issue (Ref: 582428110), asking to raise trouble ticket. Since then, I tried to follow-up on that issue, but do not get any information. Please advise on the status:
is there a trouble ticket to track this issue?
is there any progress?
what's the ETA for an update that fixes this problem?

Dynamic User Tracking

I would like to get the real time updates on end hosts on my switches. From reading other posts it sounds like I need to do the following:
1. Configure DHCP snooping on the switches.
2. Enable the mac notification traps on the switches and verify they are being sent to LMS.
I have catalyst 4000 and 4500 access switches. Not really. You'd have to run major acquisitions back to back to back, and that will just put too much strain on the server (and network).

Why can't we get a straight answer from Apple about updater issues?

Why are there thousands and thousands of posts from people all having the same issue? We try to update IPod software using latest updater, and it causes IPod to no longer be recognized. All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM! Yet all we get are refferals to complicated articles that never seem to work for at least half the people. Clearly it is a problem with these updaters. WHY IS APPLE NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE? Can anyone give me a straight answer!?

There's no need to "shout". I don't think Apple is going to hear you from shouting in a user to user forum. Nor will you probably get a answer (here) from Apple for the same reason. I have a -------- (straight) answer for you. I don't know what's going on specifically (no one really knows in this forum because they are all users. Anyone who would know won't say), but I can assure you that Apple isn't ignoring the issue. They are the quickest to respond to any problem that comes their way. If you would like to get Apple's attention, I don't suggest ranting and raving in the iPod user to user forum. I suggest submitting polite feedback to Apple here.

Is there a consensus on how to solve security update issues?

i'm writing to you from a PPC G4 (AGP graphics) that will self-destruct by the time i switch off and (attempt) to re-start tomorrow. i will then need to do a re-install, just to see if i have gotten any replies (grinds teeth to the root). it will probably be my 8 th re-install in the past month. i just can'st takes no mores, Cap'n
<exasperation>deep breath... each time i have done a clean install, zero-ed all data when erasing (7 times over, on this occasion), repaired permissions before and after each software update, and followed every advice i could find via google to pre-empt another "Error: underlying task reported failure on exit" and the inevitable hanging grey screen; i have earned nothing but another Disk Utility report of the same problem. my HD seems to be OK - Disk Utility and Disk Warrior both say it's "verified" by SMART (although i've read this could be no assurance...). it's 40 GB, nothing else installed but NetBarrier; nothing saved on it (just 3GB of OS).
i've searched this forum over the last weekend and come across a diverse range of methods in resolving software update issues. i have tried downloading the security update and safari 3.2 directly from the site and bypassing Software Update- to no avail (but noticed that they are quite larger in MB than via Software Update??).
the one suggestion the intrigued me was installing the update via Terminal. why would this be any different? the worst thing about this is that there is no universal way that'll work for all, just individual solutions for different macs??? could my problem be exacerbated by using the double layer (double the permissions to fix?) of a Panther OS with Tiger Upgrade disk?
when i last tried to resolve the "error" with safe mode, fsck and DU Repair Disk/Permissions, which initially failed, i resorted to Disk Warrior, which re-built the directory, and "fixed" the HD. when i re-tried fsck it said the HD was "ok", but i still had the "error: underlying task..." on DU?
is there an issue with the Security Update oo8 because it's PRIMARILY for 10.5 and not Tiger? why have some encountered this problem and others escaped any seeming conflicts ? is this problem also caused by JAVA updates (there are, after all, 4 updates!)

looking at your suggestion to check /Library/Startup items in the concurrent thread ("Help needed after installing Security Update 2008-008"), i recalled that the only thing i have in this file system is 3 folders concerning Intego, NetBarrier and Virus Barrier. one of these contains the NetBarrier x4 daemon which has no image, just the apple "pencil, ruler, pen on paper" "A" image. i don't think it correctly downloaded, but this the case in every instance.
i'm running netbarrier x4 10.4.5 updated and downloaded on installation. intego Support says that there should be nothing in my "Startup/Login items". i thought they meant Login items (users>login items) because when i take the folders out of my "/Library/Startup items", NetBarrier fails to "initialize".
intego is now on newtbarrier x5, but they say x4 is fully compatible with Tiger???
my baby maybe getting on, but it's strong enough, i just need to know what's bugging it!

Dynamic user profile

I have installed and configured Kanaka plug-in and my nds users can now login and see their home folders. However, they cannot launch any local applications eg. TextEdit generates a message "TextEdit quit unexpectedly" and so does Opera, Firefox always tries to create a new profile and then gives a "Profile Creation failed" due to chosen folder not being writable and MS Word will always bring the initial setup screen up but never actually loads. Is there something I have to do within Kanaka to give the dynamic users more rights. We are trying to implement this for students using our public Macs so we don't want them to have administrator privileges but they do need to be able to launch programs. Thanks

Dynamic user/role management

I'm currently working with WebLogic 6.1 and looking into doing what seems to be
a standard piece of development work, specifically dynamic user management. I
need the ability to create/modify a user and define them as members of security
role(s) from within my application, and not through the Weblogic adminstrative
console. From what I've read the only option is to create a custom RDBMS
security realm. Does anyone know of any other available options or is this it?
If anyone has implemented a custom RDBMS security realm I'd be interested in any
feedback about your experience doing so. Such as performance issues or
deficiencies of this security model. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your input. Clearly LDAP will not cut it for what I'm trying to do.
I really need the ability to manage these user accounts from within the
application not from a separate administrative tool. A custom RDBMS realm seems
the only option at this point. I looked at some of the vendors you mentioned,
but they do not seem to offer the type of solution I'm looking for. These
vendors seem to manage authorization policies which will keep programatic
security out of your business logic. I did not see where they would allow you to
create and manage user accounts/groups/ACL's. If there is one that does I'd
definitely like to take a look at it. Thanks again.

The fact that you have success for usertracking does not mean you server receives mac address notification traps. It only means the passive usertracking has run. The UT results from the other switch may come from this process.

Dynamic user event

Hello, I am a newbie regarding dynamic user events.
Basically, I want to create a user event that triggers an event structure in a subvi.
To do this, I wire up a "create new user event" and then pass the refnum to my subvi "more info" as seen below. But this piece of code get's stuck in the sub-vi and never leaves :[

To stop your main vi you will need to provide a mechanism to stop your sub vi.
I would use an additional boolean User Event to do this.
(This could be shared among other subvis).
When the (let's call it) Shutdown event is received, set your subvi while loop control terminal true.
Note: When using this scheme in an exe file, if the subvi front panel is open and you shutdown the main vi, the subvi can remain open. This happened to me using LabVIEW 2010. I had to use a Front Panel Close Method to avoid this issue.
When using the Front Panel Close Method you should first check if the front panel is open or not to avoid an error.

I'm still not clear why Apple only issued security updates for 10.6 and later. I assume they think we should all update our operating systems or maybe they are just focusing on the majority of users?
Apple has had a long standing policy of only supporting the current and previous operating system releases. Whether they decide to make an exception for even older releases is anyone's guess.
You can send them feedback to express your opinion.
Or does the new Trojan not affect older OS? I'd like to know , if anyone has information.
As far as is known, it does affect older unsupported releases. Disabling Java in your web browser is the current preventive approach (and that is a community derived approach)

2.1 update issues

I'm trying to download the 2.1 firmware, but struggling.
iTunes appears to be very very very very slow when downloading anything through it songs, apps, everything. For songs, it's not too much of an issue as they're not too big. However, when i try to download the firmware it timesout every single time! I've managed to download the file directly, but I can't work out how to install it.
It's definitely not a connection issue as i can download everything else at normal (pretty quick) speeds. It's just itunes.

I have had the 2.02 update and the 2.1 update fail for me also. Both times I had to restore my phone to it's original state because I was left with a non-functional iphone. I am running windows xp service pack 2. Service pack 3 was giving my pc some issues so I un-installed it. There are some issues with users running xp and can't update properly. We need to figure out why this is happening so please keep posting your thoughts. I am going to download the file seperately on the next update. I seem to remember looking at a similar thing in the Java demos that came with jdk1.3. I could be wrong...

Aha! Here it is.
on my pc the path is
C:\jdk1.3\demo\jfc\Metalworks
then click on the jar file. The demo allows you to change the background color, font size on the toolbar etc..Another demo Swingset2 allows you to dynamically change the look and feel. I hope this helps. If you don`t have these demos I could always send you the code.

Access switches are configured properly, the configuration ran without any problems with the previous installation.
No changes done at the configuration, using the default trap listener port etc.
In the macuhic.log file I get entries like in the attached txt.
When I try to run a full Campus Manager Data Collection I get the following errormessage:

By default IP SLA collectors installed by IPM do not appear in the running configuration. If you want to install the collectors into the running configuration, then set the "Copy IPSLA Configuration to running-config" property under IPM > Admin > Application Settings, then delete and recreate the collector.
Your Campus problem could be CSCtd49439 (a patch is available by contacting TAC). However, you should start a new thread for your Campus problem.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?
