Dynamic XML Forms In Mars

Hi,
In the Mars Dev Guide, page 140 the note mentions that only static XML forms are addressed in the guide. Is there any available documentation regarding dynamic XML forms?
Thanks,
Kip

Although there are no examples in the guide, XML Dynamic forms are actually easier to make in Mars format than static.  The easiest way to get an idea of what to do is to make a dynamic XML form and then save it in Mars format.  The XFA form description becomes an XML file in the Mars package.

  • How can you update the content of a textfield in a dynamic xml form from MSAccess and VBA

I am trying to use the code below to update a field in a dynamic xml form created by Livecycle.
I can read the field content but cannot change it.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks
    R
    Sub test()
    Dim oPDF As AcroPDDoc
    Dim FileDestName As String
    Dim jso As Object
    Dim ofld As Object
        FileSrcName = "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\ADOBE Forms\NoVB.pdf"
        Set oPDF = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
        Set jso = oPDF.GetJSObject
        Set ofld = jso.getfield("form1.TopForm.Header.Subform1.Contact")
        Debug.Print ofld.Value
         ofld.Value = "HHH"
        Debug.Print ofld.Value
    oPDF.Save PSsavefull, FileSrcName
    oPDF.Close
    Set jso = Nothing
    Set oPDF = Nothing
    End Sub

You need to research the difference between an AcroForm and an XFA form.  You're trying to access a "Field" object, which is an AcroForm object.  An XFA form does not have fields, it has nodes.  The JavaScript you are using is specific to AcroForms and you are working with an XFA form.

  • Adobe Livecycle Designer ES 2 - Adobe Dynamic XML Forms?

How can you convert a dynamic XML form design in a static PDF Form design? I tried to save a dynamic XML Form as a static PDF Form, and then tried to preview it in Designer but the layout change scripts were working which should work only for dynamic xml forms and not for the static pdf forms. Please suggest another way to do it. Thanks in advance.

You use Master Pages to set layout that you want to use on multiple pages.
Design what you want in a Master Page and then assign it to the pages you want in Object>Pagination>Place: and choose On Page> whatever you called your Master Page.

  • How can i exclude information pages from being printed in a dynamic XML form?

    Hi there,
i am building a dynamic XML form in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2.
In this form there are pages with information that help the end user fill out the form, but to use - those who process the forms after they have been sent to us - these pages with information are irrelevant.
Is there a way to tell the form to omit these pages when printing.
Currently i have set the pages mentioned to be only visable on-screen.  But doing so results in an empty page being printed (only the master page information is visable.)
Any ideas how i can solve this issue?
    Thank you.

Create a new master page and set that page to visible screen only. Set your subforms to use that master.

  • Adobe LiveCycle Dynamic XML forms & Apple iPad

Are Adobe LiveCycle Dynamic XML forms viewable/useable by Apple iPad and Apple phone or other mobile devices?

According to Adobe, you can with LiveCycle ES4. At least, that's how I read their blog post on ES4 Mobile forms support.
Of course, there have been several discussions started about this in the Adobe forums.

  • Does Ipad adobe reader allow to fill a  dynamic xml form created on LiveCycle?

The form was created using LiveCycle Designer ES3 for the purpose of being filled out on the spot at the client and then submitted as email attachment. However, Adobe reader does not seem to be able to open it giving the following error:
"Please wait... If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document..."
The form is dynamic XML, and in the description of the Adobe Reader for the Ipad, it mentions that it is capable of opening forms under the Livecycle rights.
However, if the Reader can not open dynamic XML's, how can I convert the form into a compatible fillable form for the Ipad?
    Thanks.

LiveCycle Dynamic XML Forms are not supported in the Mobile versions of Adobe Reader.

  • Converting an Acrobat 8  (Static) PDF form to an Acrobat 8 (Dynamic) XML Form

We have a PDF file that started in MS Word 2007. The form was then saved as an Acrobat 8 (Static) PDF form. Is there a way to save this form to a dynamic XML form so all users can utilize the text boxes and drop down menus? At this time, only Acrobat Pro users have the ability.
    Thanks,
    Tim

If the form has dynamic fields added to it then even users using the free Adobe Reader will be able to fill in the form. However, if it is save-off-line that you are looking for then you will need to extend the form using Reader Extensions.
Can you be more specific about your requirements?

  • Getting started with create dynamic XML forms

I work for a software vendor that is developing a C#.Net data entry system designed to replace a paper process.  The original forms come from a 3rd party and are paper form, such as a tax form, loan application form, etc.  The goal is to be able to enter data on the screen in a form that looks like something like the original form and then to print out the form that looks identical to the form on the screen.
The system is designed to allow the end user to create the forms.  The process is that the end user creates the fields in the C#.Net application, then pick from those fields to build the form. During data entry, the fields are both pre populated by the C#.Net application and the results are saved back to the C#.Net application.
The data entry and print all needs to be embedded into the core C#.Net application and NOT rely on any outside systems like the LifeCycle system.
Is there some way to embed PDF creation in the C#.Net application (or in a traditional C/C++ application for that matter)?  I am under the impression that is what dynamic XML forms is all about.  Is dynamic XML forms an Adobe thing or an open standard?

You are funny  I clearly state that I do *NOT* want to use LiveCycle Designer and you go tell me to post a question in that forum  Hopefully someone else will come along which can actually address my questions

  • Why does my Adobe Dynamic XML Form (*.pdf)  submit as data.xml

Hi, I have created a form and saved it as Adobe Dynamic XML Form (*.pdf)  the form used to submit perfectly via email but today it keeps attaching  to the email as in a data.xml format.  What would cause this and how do I fix it.
    P.S. I am a novice with Livecycle

Check the properties on your submit button.  That is where you define the submission format.

  • Converting Livecycle Dynamic XML pdf forms to Word?

How do I convert a dynamic XML pdf form created from Livecycle designer ES to Microsoft word? I have Acrobat X and when I click on File -> Save As - > and choose 'Save as type' as "Microsoft Word Document (*.doc)", I am getting this message: "Save as failed to process this document. No file was created."
Is this because its a dynamic XML form with many javascripts in the form design? if not, what could be the cause of this that is making the file not savable to word format? All of these forms are created from Livecycle designer and I have tried using Acrobat X to convert them to word but it doesnt work.

    Hi,
    don't expect an exact result.
The conversion always is an interpretation of the given layout and may be not perfect in all details.
There is not script you can add to a button to automate this workflow, especially not  for Reader, as it doesn't have any export functions.
I tested Adobe ExportPDF services, which are available in Reader XI, but those only export the shell PDF of a XFA form, so it's not usable for those PDF's (image below).

  • Dynamic .pdf forms

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to find an application for my Curve 3300 that is able to render Adobe Dynamic XML Forms (it's a .pdf form, but it is created using LiveCycle Designer and has dynamic content that makes finding a renderer difficult.)
I've tried the free trial of beamberry, and it isn't able to render the form... I get a "you need a newer version of adobe reader" error.
Has anyone else out there had the same issue? If so, how did you resolve it? Can PDF To Go read dynamic .pdf forms?
I'd appreciate any help that any one can offer.
    - Scott
P.S. does anyone know which version of Adobe Reader is functionally equivalent to the Blackberry .pdf reader apps? Is it possible to know that, or are they two different creatures altogether?
P.P.S. I figure that alot of people won't have any experience with dynamic .pdf forms... Here is a link to a sample dynamic .pdf form that I created for testing purposes. If you think that you have an app that can read it, please try opening the linked .pdf file on your blackberry. If anyone out there is able to view it, please let me know what software you are using. Thanks alot for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For anyone in the future who has a similar issue, I've come up with a fairly simple workaround. It adds an extra step of work, but it allows you to continue using dynamic forms in your workflow.
The ideal solution is if your office has a server-side adobe document output service. You can push your form to the server, have it extract the data into a datawarehouse, then output a flattened .pdf. A flattened .pdf cannot be (easily) edited, and all code behind is removed. This solution is the 'best', (and it's the only way to flatten an xfa form, as far as Adobe is concerned) but it also costs some coin, especially if you don't have any existing infrastructure to support the server-side service.
The free solution (which I have opted for) is to use a virtual printer to 'print' the document to a suitable format. There are many free virtual printers out there, but I have decided to go with CutePDF Writer. I print to the CutePDF writer, and the output is, essentially, a flattened Blackberry compatible .pdf form. The only issue is that you cannot edit a flattened document (a bonus in my situation, but still something to keep in mind... You can still edit the original document, as the flattened .pdf is a copy, not a transformation.)
You can even add a print button to the form with some JavaScript to specify the printer as 'CutePDF Writer'. Altogether, it's easier than recreating all of the business forms that have been made in a static format, and you can still leverage all the benefits of a dynamic form.
I know that this isn't central to the Blackberry, and I apologize for that, but I had a rough time with this issue, and I'm hoping to help someone with the same issue in the future. Again, thanks to those who helped.
