Dynamically connect to multiple Essbase cubes from 1 adapter

Hi Guys,
i have 14 Essbase cubes (containing the same dimensions).
What i like to accomplish is that based on the selected location in the POV an essbase cube is selected..
I've updated the connect action with:

And this works fine for the first location..
However, when i change the pov to another location the 'browse for target value' still points to the first one. After re-logon it works fine for the new location.
It looks like its stored in some kind of cache memory so i'm looking for a method to clear this cache or to reconnect while changing the POV.
It's FDM and Essbase 11.1.1.3

I thought about that as well but the 14 cubes (countries) are allowed to add level 0 members so in the mapping table i need to point to the correct Essbase cube as well..
I wasn't able to find any script that is triggered while updating the mapping (by clicking browse for target value)..
So adjusting the connect does solve my problem partially since there's some kind of cache that i need to refresh..
Do you know if this is possible?
Otherwise i have to go for the multiple adapter solution.

Error encountered while loading data into an Essbase cube from oracle DB

Hi All,
I am trying to load data into an Essbase cube from Oracle db. Essbase is installed in an 64 bit HP-UX machine and oracle database on HP -UX 11.23 B server. While performing the above I am getting the below error messages:
K/INFO - 1021013 - ODBC Layer Error: [08001] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directory].
OK/INFO - 1021014 - ODBC Layer Error: Native Error code [1034] .
ERROR - 1021001 - Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server. See log for more information.
Can you please help me out in identifying the issue, as why it could have occured , because of network problem or is there anything related to databse?

The error is related to Oracle, I would check that it is all up and running

Build and essbase cube from two facts

Hi,
I wanna now if is possible build an essbase cube from two facts. My source is a dwh that have two facts.
- Fact A with dimensions D1,D2 and D3
- Fact B with dimensions D1,D2 and D4
Both facts have a relation 1 to n. How can i model that?

Reporting Essbase cubes from Answers

I followed the documentation available in support site to configure Essbase cubes in RPD in a Solaris environment. I got the Essbase client installed, added required variables (HYPERION_HOME, ESSBASEPATH, ARBORPATH) and cahnged LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable in OracleBI\setup\user.sh file. I started the BI Services in 64-bit mode successfully.
I am getting the below error while running an Answers query.
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
Error Details
Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. Essbase Error: Network error [146]: Unable to connect to [HostName:pot#]. Unable to connect to the Essbase server from Admin console

Hi,
I have installed Essbase Server 9.3, Client 9.3 and Administration Server 9.3 in my laptop.
The Essbase server is working fine. I am able to see all the sample applications from Excel add in. (This mean client is also working fine).
But, the problem is when i try to connect to the Essbase server, its not allowing me by producing an error:
"Unable to connect to the Essbase server please check the user name & password"
username: admin
password; password.
i tried several times...but its not working.
Please advise me.
FYI, The admin server service is started already.

Here , there are 2 things
1. Check, your essbase server is up and running ,and your admin service is up. Now , when you open the 'essbase admin console ' , provide user name and password as
admin
password
2. After you are connected to the console i.e admin console .
You see
enterprise view -> essbase analytic server -> under this , you might see your host name ( i.e of your laptop).
This host is your essbase server , and if you want to connect to it .Provide 'username' and 'password' ,which you have give after your essbase installation
So, conclusively, here we are dealing with 2 different sets of 'username' and 'passwords'
In step 1-> to connect to console , use 'admin' 'password'
In step 2-> to connect ot essbase server, use the credentials wchih you had given after installation of essbase server
Hope this clarifies you, as this is a lil confusion to many

Problem with connection to one OLAP cube from Excel

I have OLAP database that have several cubes. I can not open one of them in Excel 2010.
I can make connection but when I import data to pivot table, clik ok, then nothing happens - the same screen appears with data import.
I can browse this cube in Management Studio
Do you know how to solve this? Any ideas?

According to your description, you can connect to cube success, the issue is that nothing happens when clicking OK to import data to pivot table, right?
I have tested it on my local environment, we cannot reproduce this issue. So in you scenario, please ensure that not select "Only Create Connection" option In the Import Data dialog box, under Select how you want to view this data in your workbook.
Besides, you can analyze SSAS using Excel directly from SSMS. In SSMS, browse the cube, and click on the Excel button as shown below.

Deploy of Essbase Cube from EPMA to Shared Services Project is not possible

We cannot deploy Essbase Cubes to shared services projects. The projects are not selectable in the box in the deploy dialog. Help is urgently needed. Our version is 11.1.1.3.

Parallel Export from multiple Essbase cubes

Hi,
Is it possible to take parallel Export from Essbase where the source data resides in multiple cubes? I am looking at using source data(lev 0) from multiple cubes and load into simultaneous txt files.
Please provide links to any documents that may help.

IF I read your question correctly, No. You can't merge multiple cube sources into one set of export files. The files are open for output and can't be shared. If you tried to do the one after the other into the same file, it would overwrite.
You could get creative and after the exports are done concatinate the files together to get a single file. I'm couroius, why do you need all the data in a single file. Even if oyu are loading to other systems you ssould be able to load multiple files. If not, then the concatination through a windows batch script or unix shell script would give you what you want.

You would first need a hub that allows you to switch between multiple pc's and then only one pc at a time would be connected and in control.
When you buy this special type of hub, one of the specs is how many pc connections it has.

How can I connect to multiple WLS instances from a single Apache virtual host

Configuration : WebLogic 5.1 SP8 & Apache
I need to be able to have a configuration that looks something like this.
www.company.com/x -> WL cluster01
www.company.com/y -> WL cluster02
In all the examples that I have been able to find they alway defines the the WL
connection for the entire virtual host, but I need to be able to do it on a location
basis is that possible?

Problems with accessing Essbase cube from Interactive studio

Hi All,
I have a report in IR for which essbase is the source. When i try to process the report i am getting an error as below.
Request [Report] from user[username] was terminated since it exceeded the time limit
Any idea on how this could be resolved ?

Probably query governors on the Essbase server, contact the Essbase DBA.

Linking existing Essbase Cube to Planning

My business team created an Essbase cube, and now they want us to link that cube to Planning.
I opened an SR and I was told the following:
1. Ensure you have a test environment to create this new Planning app before moving to production.
2. Create a new Planning app in the test environment with the same name as the production Essbase cube.
3. Export all Essbase data.
4. Copy over the outline to the new Essbase cube in the test env. You can copy over the rest of the Essbase objects as needed (calc scripts, report scripts, etc).
5. Import the Essbase data into the new Essbase cube.
6. refresh Planning
Everything went well except for Step 6. When I do the refresh from Planning, the Essbase Outline gets updated with the one from Planning which doesn't have anything since it was just created.
I need to refresh the Planning Outline with the the one from Essbase that does have the data the users have been working on.

You will have to define all the dimension membes etc to Planning. Because Essbase is the database, it will be updated with planning information... There are no shortcuts.. But you can export your dimension members from existing Essbase and load into planning using HAL/ODI/DIM..
Use outline extractor tool to get the existing dimensionality and create 1 metadata file per dimensions.
I believe Oracle support thought that you want to create a new Essbase cube from existing Planning cube.

Cannot Lock and Send data to an Essbase cube

Hi all,
One of our customer is executing a Macro script to lock and send data to the essbase cube from an excel sheet.
They reported that in several cases where users will submit their data, and later discover that their changes are not in Essbase.
The calls to EssVRetrieve (to lock the blocks) and EssVSendData are both returning successfully and there is no error message received while executing the above macros.
I reviewed the application log file and found the following message:
[Mon Nov 24 18:59:43 2008]Local/Applicn///Warning(1080014)
Transaction [ 0xd801e0( 0x492b4bb0.0x45560 ) ] aborted due to status [1014031].
I analysed the above message and found the user is trying to lock the database when already a lock has been applied to it and some operation is being performed on it. Because of that the transaction has been aborted. But customer says no concurrent operation is being performed at that time.
Can anyone help me in this regard.

The error message for error 1014031 is 'Essbase could not get a lock in the specified time.' The first thought I have is that perhaps some user/s have the 'Update Mode' option set in their Essbase Options and thus, when they are retrieving data, they are inadvertantly locking the data blocks. If that is the case, you will probably see this issue sporadically as the locks are automatically released when the user disconnects from Essbase.
To make it stop, you will have to go to every user's desktop and make sure they have that Essbase Option turned off. Further, you will have to look at any worksheets they may use that may have an Essbase Option name stored on it. The range name is stored as a string and includes a setting for update mode. Here is a sample that I created for this post where I first turned 'on' update mode and then turned 'off' update mode:

Note the 11th character in the first string is '1' which indicates that Update Mode is 'on'; in the second string, it is 'off'.
This behavior, particularly with update mode, is the only one of the behaviors that I disliked in Excel and pushed me to design our Dodeca product. In Dodeca, the administrator controls all Essbase options and can either set individual options to the value they want or they can allow the user to choose their own options. Most of our customers do not allow the user to set update mode.

unless you wrote something using the API, then no you cannot update metadata members in Essbase from Smart View. You can Update Planning metadata members from Smart View(Not EPMA created but Classic) and have them pushed to the Essbase cube from Smart View
